    Unsafe, low tire tread for a car rental in the snow. November 2024. Dear Avis, My concerns expressed to Avis customer service have gone unanswered. Rather than ignore the feedback, please consider contacting me about the recent Avis rental in Cleveland, OH. The vehicle's tires are below the safe tread depth and could contribute to an accident under any inclement weather. Second, the actual vehicle mileage that I noted in a photo is higher than the mileage stamped on the Avis paperwork. This mileage discrepancy might be why the tires haven't been replaced. Regardless, in my business, I would reconcile both issues quickly; one related to safety, and one related to maintenance and fleet-auditing. Sincerely, Mr. A, 290130002

    To start with the Rental Car Industry across the board is a disaster, it appears the pandemic and poor business decisions has devastated this industry - being a business traveler for decades it easy for me to see just how much this industry has declined. This particular incident started at the time of the booking with multiple disclaimer that due to a shortage of rental vehicles the availability ,selection, pricing and pickup location can change. I find these proclamations a little unsettling after my history of renting hundreds of cars over the years, admittedly mostly from one brand but today after my loyalty was rejected at my go to vendor I decided it was time to start shopping. The nightmare started on 12/4 when I hit the reserve button for a rental starting mid-day 12/6 through the early morning hours of 12/8 - although I wasn't super excited about the price ($453) I had no choice since all the rental companies operating out of Cleveland Hopkins Airport were out of cars for those dates. After arriving at the Avis Rental Counter I noticed the complex was nearly empty and those that were there without a reservation were a little disappointed that they were turned away - well I was never so thankful to have a reservation and that I had pre-paid 100% of the cost upfront. I approached the counter with my confirmation number in hand, only to get a blank stare and a few sidebar conversations between the staff - and then 15 minute of the sound of fingers banging on a keyboard before hearing we have a car but it is a lower class than you reserved, so I asked what the price adjustment would be only to be told that this car is actually in the same class being they have no others - huh? Well after more than an hour at the counter my chariot arrived a beaten, dirty crashed Ford Explorer with nearly 50K miles on it - this filthy rattle trap hadn't seen a wash bay in sometime and smelt like a cheap cigar shop - okay they got me I have no choice so I jumped in and exited the lot mumbling unkind words to myself. Fast forward to 5:00 AM 12/8 - after fueling this beast at the nearby Circle K I pulled into the rental car return lot which was manned by an after hours security person, I grabbed my bags and dropped the keys in the drop box and headed for the airport rental car bus - a few hours later as I sipped a morning cocktail in the United Club I received my email receipt - I'm pretty sure my reaction after opening the PDF was WTF - final cost for a rental that I had in my possession for less than 48 hours ($854). Well we all understand it's not always about the mistake it's more about the final outcome and how the problem is resolved so this wasn't over. Well after an hour on the phone with a customer service representative and making my case tactfully and professionally and after getting put on hold several times Avis accepted responsibility and promised a fund to my credit card in the amount of ($401) within 5 business days - so if this happens all is forgiven and I'll be smarter for it and won't be returning to this location...

    Took over half an hour to get into the car. 7pm on a Monday night, not busy at all. One person in front of us. No excuse, horrible service.

    Went to return the car. Woman working outside at returns was just as rude. Awful experience. Never using Avis again.

Everything went smoothly there wasn't a line so we got processed quickly and the lady even gave me an upgrade on the car. What she failed to tell me or to explain to me was the gas situation. In the past I would always just pick up a car it would be full and then I would refill it before I turned it back in. But I guess I purchased a package for $60 where I could use the gas and not refill it. But I did refill it in the end. I called the company and they told me I would have to turn in the receipt and that I would get my money back for the refill. So I was happy about that. So in the future I would make sure that I know what I am buying. But everyone here was pretty friendly at the Cleveland International Airport. What made us laugh is we came all the way to Cleveland OHIO and we get a car with Florida plates.!

When we finally got sort, we our car and we were on our way to check out at the main gain (only one gate was open because again, understaffed) so the line had about 6 cars waiting (this was the exit for all of the car rentals). Once it was our turn, we were sent back again because he noticed our plates were expired. So we got in another car but told that it was the wrong car. We finally got into our car, waited in the car check out line again and we were in our way. The staff was really nice and checking out was easier because you just leave your car (though if were damaged after you left it, you'd have a hard time proving it). Luckily, we didn't have any issues. I'd try them again and chalk up the slowness and miscommunication to having a lack of staff due to the pandemic.

When I arrived home they had charged me over $150 A DAY for a total of 600 and some dollars. I called and spoke to someone overseas that I barely understand. They "took care of it and adjusted the pricing correctly." Today I see they charges me $415 and are trying to charge me an additional $169. Luckily it didn't go through. Now I get to spend more of my precious time arguing with these crooks. Last time I used Turo, needless to say that is where I'm going from now on. What is wrong with these corporate crooks?

When I initially landed it was a quick walk from my gate to baggage claim, an area that was much quieter and barren than expected. I loved that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame store was one of the first things I saw, honoring legendary artists with their faces and names adorned on t-shirts and guitar picks. The huge Cleveland sign at arrivals was also a sight to see. When it was time for me to return to Atlanta, I was concerned about the lines as TSA was still going unpaid. I was assured that I shouldn't worry, especially because I have precheck. But because of who I am as a person, I'm always early to the airport. I enjoy the airport! So when I arrived early and literally got through the line in FOUR minutes, I just had to laugh, lol. The restaurant options are a bit more limited than one would hope, but there are some options. Vino Volo was the best place in that bad boy so be sure to stop in for a glass of wine or a bite to eat! The airport itself was quite clean but the bathrooms were a little disappointing as many public restrooms can be. I still haven't learned to bring my own good toilet paper while traveling. But employees were kind, the place wasn't incredibly busy, there were electric ports available and the wifi worked - what more could you ask for?

Never received it so I went up to the Dollar desk ... there was a young lady sitting there looking at her cell phone... I said hello and I stood there for a few minutes before she looked up at me with a confused look. I explained to her that I never received the text telling me which car I should take... I showed her my confirmation number.. she said their system had been down for the last hour and she was having trouble looking up which car was assigned to me. A man came over to the desk and he called someone asking about how they could figure out which cars went to who since the system was down... the girl was manually writing up the paperwork for me... they then figured out I was the one who did the manager's special. Which said online that it would be revealed when I picked up the car. They gave me a Kia EV. I've never driven anEV before so I asked the about when I return it did it need charged to a certain charge... he said bring it back with at least 80% charge... after I started heading to my parents who live in North Canton, I had gone about 20 miles and was alerted I needed to charge the vehicle... THEY GAVE ME AN EV THAT ONLY HAD 8% CHARGE LEFT... I HAD TO QUICKLY FIND A PLACE TO CHARGE IT SO I COULD MAKE IT TO MY PARENTS. I couldn't find a super charge station and the only one I found had a 4 hour limit which I didn't have time for and because the battery was so low it said it would take 11 hours to charge to full capacity. My parents who are almost 80 met me in Fairlawn and we went to dinner while the car charge enough to get me to there house. I will most likely use a different rental car place next time rather than Dollar.
