Avis has failed me on the last couple of rentals in various cities. How about no washer fluid in your car in Boston during a snow storm and in rush hour traffic? How about one of the wiper blades not function and again it's snowing and you have a 90 minute drive out in the country? Seriously, it's called a checklist and even at minimum wage you should be able to follow one and make my experience a whole hell of a lot more productive for me! read more

If I could give negative 5 stars for this place I would, I sat there for a damn hour waiting for them to bring our rental Toyota Corolla around. Also their customer service is about as awful as it gets. If I could describe Avis car rentals in one word it would be "shit". I would recommend any other car rental company over Avass. I downloaded yelp today just so I could leave you all a terrible review. The inefficiency and terrible customer service of this makes me wonder how they ever got popular in the first place. Pretty sub par overall. I've been renting from this Avis about once a week for the past six months. Cars are pretty standard, not brand new and not the cleanest, but not terrible. The service is not good. This week has heavy snow. They did not include a scraper in my car and the gas was not full even though they said it was. When I called the service desk they told me scrapers are not included in rentals and I could either buy one of my own or just wait for the car to heat up read more

When I picked up the rental, I was impressed by the gentleman at the counter who was very helpful and was able to quickly process my rental (the only reason for two stars). The car was generally in good condition with the exception of the check engine light remaining on for the duration of my rental period. The problems began after I returned the rental, with the primary issue being inconsistent billing. I had paid for a portion of my rental upfront before needing to extend the rental. I called when the pending charges were more than what was indicated on the price per day charges on my rental agreement. A representative reviewed the information and told me that the final posted amount would be less the initial Pre-paid amount. But, I was still then charged that full amount. When I called back to follow up, I was told something completely different by an employee who was clearly not informed on appropriate customer service. Additionally, the information I was initially provided by the rep at the counter regarding the gas use was completely disregarded and I was charged a full tank price that was more than what was posted at the location. First and last time using Avis. I'll stick with my other companies from now on. read more

I reserved an economy car because i only have a sport car with 2 seats, on the website the car was chevrolet for 4 people. I drive all the way from downtown to the airport location, the AVIS agent told me they only have 2 seat beetle car, and if i want 4 seat car i have to pay 8$ / day extra, when i asked to cancel the booking he said they cant i have to call priceline. Priceline costumer service were rude and helpless, i ended up wasting my saturday, canceling my plans, losing my rental money. This is the most terrible renting service both at AVIS level and at the priceline website level. Budget has a great costumer service, few weeks ago i reserved an economy car online when i arrived at Budget they didnt have the car so they upgraded me to ford SUV at no extra cost, AVIS on the other hand treated me with disrespect. read more

Got into a rental car quickly but the driver seat rotated in a circle instead of forward and back. No other cars were in the lot except tiny cars, SUV's, and this malfunctioning premium car. It was snowing with a lot of snow accumulation on the ground so we definitely wouldn't be safe in a tiny car. Went back in explained malfunctioning car and asked for an SUV. Employee stated he couldn't give us an SUV "because we're not allowed to upgrade to an SUV when it's snowing" but offered to downgrade us...? Employee told us he would have someone bring another premium car around in 5 min. After 20 min told employee car still not here. He looked into it. Still waited another 20 min. I understand he himself probably couldn't do too much if that's policy. I just don't understand why you would knowingly offer customers a less safe car because the car you paid for is broken and SUV's are apparently only for customers who don't want to die in a snowstorm. I rent at this location about two to three times a month. Being a preferred member, I usually dont have to deal with the normal counter people inside. On my most recent visit my name wasn't on the preferred board (this happens occasionally) normally its not at issue, I step to the preferred booth to find the most unpleasant person I've ever met STEVEN !!! Normally there is either one of two ladies in the preferred booth , very pleasant and professional. Steve has none of these qualities. He informed me that he was not trained to add the vehicle to my rental to get me on my way, I would have to go inside to have that done! Upon reaching the inside counter, I found out from a manager who knows I rent there all the time how completely false that was. I would love to give Steven negative stars but I'm unable to. If you see him at the counter, as for someone else. Four stars goes to the rest of the staff there, they are all very welcoming and show that they appreciate your business. I just rented the car and specifically told them i didn't want any of the a la carte extras. The ez pass device wouldn't shut off so I am going to get charged. On the return the supervisor( their employees are unauthorized to credit me $8) was a major jerk and said so way would he give me a credit and told me to call the device company that handles ez pass. I told him I rented from Avis and wasn't interested in staying on hold to a third party vendor. The car was fine otherwise but supervisor was rude and needs to get reprimanded by his bosses at Avis. read more

Worst experience ever. Car smelled so bad of cigarette smoke i had to drive the entire time with all windows down. Didnt have time to switch cars because the shuttle from the airport took 15 minutes setting me back. Car was filthy, obviously not cleaned. Im seeing plenty reviews stating cars smell like smoke from Avis. Must be their thing. I accidentally left my wallet in the car. When i called about it, i was transferred to a customer service rep from out of state telling me to fill out an online report and told be "lost and found " is only open tuesday-friday 9-4pm. What is that? It was friday so apparently it was impossible to just ask the Cleveland Avis right then to check the vehicle. Sketchy. Then they emailed me 4 days later stating they didnt have my wallet. So...either the employees stole it, or they dont clean out the vehicles at all. I cant believe how dishonest, unconcerned and filthy my experience was. Dont get scammed. Go to enterprise. Thieves with filthy cars. Gross. read more

Actual service I've received from Avis was good. However, they don't tell you that you can't leave your car in parking lot in front of the building for more then two hours! How the hell does that makes since?! Only customers they can service are people flying in. I had to find that out the hard way after my car got towed!! Will never rent from them again. read more

A screwed up reservation system combined with absolutely awful customer service: I reserved and pre-paid online. I am in the Avis Preferred program and have a Wizard number. Yet (once again) when I got to the Avis location, there was a problem. This time they said there was a block on my credit card. "That's what the system says, there's nothing we can do". I called my credit card company after the Avis folks (by now the manager was there) were stumped on how to resolve. On speaker phone, the credit card rep confirmed, "no problem on this end, card is fine." But Avis was still not able to process the transaction. I expressed my frustration by saying "...every time there is an issue with your g-dammed system". So now both managers were telling me I had offended the Avis rep. When I offered an apology for expressing my frustration, I was told it didn't count because it "wasn't sincere." After more back and forth, and no suggestions on how to resolve, I finally said, "how about another credit card." "Oh yeah, that will work," replied the Avis manager. Really, that's all he needed? And he didn't to ask that 10 minutes earlier? Unbelievable. I'm done with Avis. read more

This location charged is for an upgrade we never accepted and has refused to address it. When we picked up the car, the woman at the counter simply said, "We have you in a Kia and would like to put you in a Hyundai." She never use the word 'upgrade' or even intimated we were changing from the class of car we had reserved. Rather, she simply made it sound like it was a necessary administrative change. Then, when we signed the paperwork she had us initial next to everything we accepted and every we declined, EXCEPT for the line on their about the upgrade we allegedly accepted. As a result, we thought the upgrade line--just like the other lines in that section that we didn't initial next to because they didn't apply to us--were included as boilerplate on all agreements. Avis customer service has not been at all helpful resolving this, and we've wasted many hours trying to get it fixed. I will never rent from the Avis at the Cleveland airport again, and I strongly suggest you look for a more honest car rental agency at the airport. read more

First of all, I am a loyal Avis customer. I come to Cleveland every year to see my mother. Every year I rent from Avis at CLE and every year, they find some way to make it less than good. The Cleveland rental car center is already a challenge- probably the worst in the US (I fly a lot), but Avis always finds ways to annoy. Counter people sent me to my preferred space to find a car that had no keys and was locked. Went back to counter and had to wait for them to get another car for me. The whole point of preferred is that I don't have to go to any counters.. On return, it was pouring rain. 5:30am. Sign pointed me to an area I hope was the return. No attendant, no covered area remaining. Got soaked, had to walk to counter to get a receipt.. And this is just like other times- same problem. No outside attendant. No direction given.. All on me to figure it out and walk around when all I want to do is get to the plane and go to sleep. Next time, I'm going Hertz or National in Cleveland. read more

I booked a car online to be picked up at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. I chose Avis because I was told that I could add my 21 year old daughter at no charge by Maria when I called the 800 number. When I arrived at the counter, I was told she couldn't be added. I then explained I needed a car to accommodate one hard-sided golf case, a car with one seat to fold down. Eve at the counter went into the back and returned stating she had located a car for me. When I went into the back, no one was there to direct us to a car or assist us in any way. We found the car after asking a passerby. We attempted to put the case in the car and it wouldn't fit. I was shocked. I have traveled with this case numerous times, rented from Enterprise, and the case always fit. I returned back to the counter and explained to Eve that the case would not fit. She told me that I would have to upgrade, pay more money, for a car to accommodate the case. I was furious. I went over to Enterprise and worked with a helpful agent who took us into the back, found a car that worked, and helped us load our car. My first time attempting to rent from Avis and most definitely my last! I will not do business with a company who operates using "bait and switch" tactics. read more
