Had trouble with a car from the airport. This Avis hooked me up quickly with a newer/better car fast. 5 stars!

My husband and I arrived at the Avis on Airline inside Pepboys looking for a truck. My husband spoke with a man who told him that they have a Toyota Pickup. My husband preceeded to rent the truck for 1 week. I left the facility to head home. My husband called me to let me know that he need a credit card and he only had debit cards with him. I returned with the credit card 45 minutes later to preceed with the rental, while my husband continued to wait inside the store. (Our home is a distance). I saw someone in the toyota when I drove up, thinking it was staff making sure the truck is ready. I gave the man behind the counter my credit card and he processed the card and told us that he is going to put us in another vehicle. We asked another truck, and he said that was the only truck he has and it has been rented. My husband told him that he had given the truck to us he knew that he was waiting for me to bring the credit card back. He then became very angry and rude, and told us that "he is not gonna do this, he is putting us in another truck." He also asked several times "why do you want a truck". We saw where this was going so we went with the program. He told us to take another vehicle. He preceeded to rent that vehicle to us and ran my credit card. My husband and I went to check for damages and look the car over. He came outside and said both back tires are low. Another employee asked if he can just go and put some air in the tires. He said no, they can just get something else. We went back inside and I told my husband that I do not feel comfortable doing business with this man. The man gave me a refund on my credit card and told me that we should get the refund in 5-7 days. My husband asked to speak to the manager. He told us that his name is Engolio and that he is the owner so there is no one that we can tell. My husband then asked for customer service phone number and he gave us 800-331-1212. Engolio is a white male, black hair around 40 years old maybe 5'11". Not sure if he is the owner or not, with his attitude. Location needs a 0 star, but I had to give a star. This is my first time in life having a bad experience at a rental car company. We went around the corner to Enterprise on Jefferson and was treated with dignity and respect. They did not have a truck, but we did get a rental vehicle. read more

Avis/Budget needs to take a course on how to provide exceptional or even minimal customer service and train their employees on how to arrive to work on time. I dealt with them three times during my stay, and each time they were at least 2 hours late to opening up and the attitudes of the agents were horrendous. When I went to pick up my replacement vehicle, as the first one had a leak in the tire, I walked around the vehicle and noticed that the undercarriage was mostly detached from the vehicle. I had to return to the agent downstairs to report the damage, as no one works upstairs by the vehicles. The agent acted as though this was normal and nothing worth notating. One speed bump or train track and that thing would fall off or get stuck. I asked for another vehicle and she acted like I was inconveniencing her. I ended up changing companies after that. read more

*This Avis rental car location is shared with Budget Rental car and is located INSIDE the Pepboys* I wasn't aware of this when I arrived here to rent a car from Avis rental car and stopped next to this Pepboys location in Baton Rouge. At first thought when I got dropped off by my uber driver here, "wtf??? A Pepboys??? Where's the Avis car rental place????" Till I realized, 5 minutes later, that there on the building is a small rectangular signage that spelled out that Avis and Budget rental car was here, but where? Finally, it dawned on me. Inside Pepboys. Yep, much like how banks occupies a small corner of supermarkets spaces nowadays, Avis/Budget rental car is doing that. At least they are right in front of the entrance versus somewhere in the back of Pepboys. Took me a little while to wrap my head around this thing, since usually rental car places have their own private lot, but I guess that's not the case with Avis/Budget car rental and Baton Rouge, La. For what it's worth, the overall experience here was an interesting one. The service here was decently adequate although there was just one person at the counter, with seemingly no other staff at this location - at least when I was there on June 1, 2016. It was somewhat slow, but I got in and out of there just dandy. Just one person doing everything. That's got to be pretty cool. You couldn't tell which cars were the rentals and which cars were private vehicles shopping at Pepboys. No signage or anything. Lol it was clearly an eye opener. Welcome to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where things gets done a little differently among these parts, I reckon! It was the first time ever that I received a Volvo Jetta as my car for a day. I would have rented from BTR airport, but their rates there were so high and that returning a car at 4:30am made it even harder to justify. So, I just did a rental for a day then used uber for the rest of my time in Baton Rouge. With that said, this Avis/Budget car rental location is located at 9704 Airline Highway in the heart of Baton Rouge. It's about a 20 minute drive from the airport. They accept major credit cards, which is always a plus. I did the LDW insurance thing + the roadside assistance thing for about $8 more per day. Never know what can happen out there! I brought the car back 3/4 full, which was the same as when I rented it out, so there's some cost savings there in gas. Always nice to save here and there while traveling. The shock of the entire operation for Avis/Budget car rental to be inside a Pepboys instead of a distinguished parking lot with its own rental counter like you see at the airport was disconcerting to say the least. At least Priceline was accurate when it gave me the address of this rental location. In the back of my head, I thought they had given me inaccurate information and I even checked out google maps - street view prior to arrival just to see it first. It all worked out in the end and customer service here was adequate, although it can be improved. They should start staffing at least one more person here just to have more streamline operations rather than one person doing everything. Maybe it's better this way for just one person, but it's time waster when you're waiting for your rental car. Not mad not complaining either, just an observation. For what it's worth, the car that I drove was pretty neat. The Volvo Jetta was a good drive and never had problems with it. Especially when it had just over 1,100 miles when I got behind the wheel. 4 stars just because it was an adequate experience. Cheap deals outside the BTR airport and a pretty good location. The worst experience ive ever had. Rented a car for the first time and the lady tacked on some charge for insurance without me approving it and taking advantage of us. When I tried to tell the lady that at checkout she proceeded to try & say I'm lying & refused to talk to my dad anymore on the phone. The lady the counter at the BR airport was rude and tried to say "there's no way they put that charge on without my consent & no way they didn't give me a pamphlet for returning the car bc they give it to every customer." The person who checked me in for the rental was new & the lady who checked me out was horrible & rude & I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone ever. Enterprise at the BR airport is amazing & much friendlier & explains everything out front. The whole staff at Avis was RATCHET and RUDE and you could tell by their customer service skills which were nonexistent. read more

To say that there was poor customer service would imply that there actually was customer service, or even an attempt at customer service. Now, I prefer not to blast a company or person on Yelp, but to register a complaint with Avis I need some type of reference number, which I would have to get by calling customer service. They are a major reason I am making this review, so I am not interested in dealing with them anymore. Here's what happened. My wife reserved a truck for about a month ago, doing so far in advance. We were planning our move from Baton Rouge to Chicago. The reservation was for Saturday morning, and on Thursday we received a call that there would not be a truck available and were given a number to call (customer service or something, my wife ended up handling it). It took multiple phone calls, including a promised call back from Avis that never happened, and, in total, something like 3-4 hours of aggravation. In the end, we were told that the person working at this particular Avis made a mistake. They even offered the explanation that this person was simply confused because their experience was in car rentals and truck rentals operated differently. Whatever, but we were told we would have a truck. By now you should see where this is going, but it is worse than them just not having a truck. So yeah, Saturday morning we show up and the employee seems shocked that we expect a truck, imploring us that they called and said there would not be one. Fair enough. At this point it is my wife, my father, and me standing at the register, extremely disappointed and annoyed that this could even happen. Frankly, we were pissed. My two young children (1 and 3 yrs) had already gone north and were staying with their grandparents. We had people and things waiting on us. We were told to call a number, conveniently the same number we had called a few days earlier that evidently botched this thing in the first place. So imagine my frustration that this is the only response from Avis. It seems appropriate to mention Tangie T, the office manager, who provided absolutely no help. Quite literally, nothing; the customer service was non-existent. Was Tangie, a manager, unable to look up available trucks? If not, shouldn't he have said as much? I will admit that initially we raised our voices at times and all spoke at him at once, so maybe it was too much for him. I think he may have been offended when I told him that someone at customer service told us that the mistake was his (he did feel the need to flaunt his 20+ years of experience). But eventually I kept trying to get him to answer a simple question, one that should be quite obvious to anyone willing to consider the situation. If we called customer service initially and they told us there would be a truck, what do we do if we call them again and they tell us there should be a truck? It just doesn't make sense to call customer service when they screwed the whole thing up in the first place, especially when it took them hours the first time. For whatever reason, I couldn't get this question through to Tangie, he just kept telling us to call customer service. But I kept trying to ask the question clearer, because he just wouldn't actually answer it. By this time he had become very defensive and, instead of listening to my question (maybe that is why he couldn't answer it), he repeatedly interrupted me. I firmly told him to stop interrupting me and answer my question. This was too much for Tangie, who then completely shut down. He sat on his stool and ignored us. Not having a truck was not Tangie's mistake, but he offered nothing to help the situation and actually made it worse with impressively poor customer service. read more

Made a reservation a week early and the vehicle is not ready when I arrived at Pepboys/Avis. They opened at 8:00 am and we are still waiting at 11:00am. The staffs are nice and apologetic but this doesn't change the fact that my travel plan is delayed because they cannot honor a reservation. I do not recommend this location. read more
