Please be cautious when renting from this location. We recently rented a vehicle from 7/31-8/6. When we returned the vehicle, we received our receipt with the original amount we had paid, 20 minutes later we received a separate receipt with a $450 "miscellaneous" fee added. When we called the location to inquire what the charges were for the employee stated they found pet hair "deep within the seats." The employee stated they have a strict no pet policy and that is why we were charged a fee. We informed the employee that we did not have any animals in the vehicle nor do we own a pet, therefore the hair could not be from us. The employee then changed their story and stated there were crumbs on the floor and that was what the fee was for. The employee stated we were to bring the vehicle back fully detailed in the condition that it was given to us. We asked for pictures of said pet hair and received two blurry images of carpet telling us to zoom in to see "nonhuman white hair." It is unclear if we are being charged for "pet hair deep within the seats" or crumbs on the carpet since the employees at this location continue to change their story on what the charge is for. Either way a $450 fee for crumbs or hair is outrageous and unjust. We have been loyal Avis customers for years, have rented from numerous locations in different states, and have never been asked to have the vehicle fully detailed before returning. We returned the vehicle in great condition with a full tank of gas, as required. When we reached out to corporate, the representative stated that Avis would run an investigation but ultimately it would be the word of the Gurnee Avis location against ours. The representative stated that if Gurnee Avis employees decide to say it is pet hair that Avis corporate will take their word and we will not be refunded the $450 charge. We are extremely disappointed in how this was handled. If you see this review, please use a different Avis location or another company for your rental needs. read more

Would give less than 1 if I could. This is now a Budget car place and I advise everyone to STAY AWAY. Non smoker for 30 years plus no one in my rental car all weekend. Charged me a BOGUS 450.00 to clean the bloody interior cause THEY said it smelled like smoke. NO WAY!!!!! Stay away from this business. RENTER BEWARE - They will process your credit card payment and hand you the receipt. This receipt will not reflect any other charges they feel they want to add on. We dropped off the car clean and gave back with the quarter tank of gas in which they gave it to us with. They claimed the car was dirty when we returned. When I asked if they took pictures or if I could come over and see, she said its their judgement if its dirty or not and I am not able to examine her claim nor will she remove the fee. $250 charge to vacuum the car. So BEWARE. You have been warned to not use this location. read more

I would also give this location 0 stars if I could. For this reason, picking up a car and dropping off the car was a hassle. I had to go to two other avis locations bc he didn't have cars when I wasn't satisfied with my car. To make a long story short, save yourself the trouble and rent from Avis libertyville (buckley/peterson location) ask for Daniela she is great and provides excellent customer service. This is my first time renting from this specific location and I rent cars for all my business or pleasure trips. About 8 times a year. Never had any issues with Avis/Budget until now! Do not rent from this location, they are definitely not professional and have no regard for anyone. During this pandemic they are ruining my family's trip due to negligence on their behalf. On top of negligence they assume no responsibility and didn't even offer so much as an apology for ruining our trip by not having our car ready as confirmed over a month ago! Here's what happened: I reserved a 12 passenger van for a family of 8 to travel to California in. I received several confirmation emails leading up to pick up date. I also had a missed phone call with voicemail from Ash, the gurnee store manager, telling me to please call to confirm otherwise we wouldn't have a car today. He called yesterday at 4pm and said they'd be closing at 6pm. So I had two hours time to call back. I called and no one answered. Instead there was an automated Avis answering system that prompted me how to confirm my reservation. At 5:10pm I received a text message confirming my reservation was all set for pick up today. I had a funny feeling this morning and decided to give them a second call just to double confirm everything was set. The man that answered, "Chris", didn't even ask who I was or for a confirmation # and immediately said that "unfortunately" I didn't call back to confirm on time so they didn't have a 12 passenger van. So when I asked how long would it take to get a van he said few days. So how does calling me 2 hours before closing the day before give them enough "time" to get my car ordered?! Sounds to me like negligence on their part. Either way I see it they are unprofessional and lazy people. Plus if I called back 50 mins before closing and confirmed it through their Avis answering service then my part was done! I have texts and emails to prove I called within the time given to confirm. His excuse was that due to the pandemic these are new measures they're taking. Complete asshole response. Never received an I'm sorry. The guy even told me to just called customer service to complain to them and to have a nice day before he hung up! I will never recommend Avis at Gurnee until they switch store owners/managers, whatever. I send them a lot of business for my fellow colleagues and will ensure that Abbvie employees know the horrid service I received! read more

I honestly don't think the customer service representative has been properly trained in the job. Then when I was returning my vehicle the service representative was very rude and unprofessional with me when I asked him to explain to me the multiple charges to my credit card! If I could give negative stars, I would. Just the most horrible experience ever. I was shaking after dealing with the guy at the Avis counter whose idea of customer service was just yelling at us while all we wanted was a vehicle that we reserved. It is no exaggeration to say that we have NEVER experienced such rude and inconsiderate behavior. We had an important trip planned and we were sent reeling since apparently they don't understand what a reservation means. We had to scramble and use another rental service in town since this Avis location is a joke. We will never use AVIS again. read more

The vehicle I scheduled wasn't available when it was time to pick up. Rep stated 3 people needed minivans and none were available. Stated I could get a free "upgrade" to a 7 passenger Pathfinder but the car was surely a downgrade. The car had not been cleaned and smelled like smoke and dogs. Therefore I had to pay to upgrade my vehicle. Now the cost of the "upgrade" wasn't much but either way the change from a minivan to an SUV greatly impacted the quality of the trip. The vehicle was much more congested and cramped do to a lack of luggage space and all seats being accounted for. I definitely feel as if the vehicle I was moved into should have been completely complimentary but apparently this was not possible and I was too tight on time to look around for another deal at the last minute. I have used this location a couple times before and the service was not this poor. Hopefully I wont have to stop using them seeing as they usually have the best deals available. read more
