I picked up a car with a bad smell. After half an hour of it not airing out, I checked the back, which was clearly used by a dog as a bathroom, and not cleaned. I returned to the location, waited half an hour for the single agent to return from lunch, then the agent smelled and saw the issue and provided another car. None of this was noted in the new rental agreement for the new car, and the time was still marked as the original pickup time of the bathroom car. I returned the new car at the time I picked it up, a week later. For that extra 2 hours, I was charged for an extra day. After speaking to an agent, as well as escalating to a supervisor, the Official statement from Budget is as follows: The car was mechanically functional, so you did not need to return it, and the extra charge for the extra time is valid. I had to place a credit card dispute to get this resolved, and I'm fully confident they will fight it like rabid dogs with lack of bowel control. -- Budget Car Rental - now renting used uncleaned pet bathrooms. This place is a joke. We've attempted to rent multiple times and EVERY single time there is "no car available" upon our arrival. How is this possible? This reservation was made weeks in advance. This has happened MULTIPLE times! We had an appointment and the associate showed up 30 minutes late. Unprofessional and they quite literally did not perform the services requested and that we paid for. Do not give any Avis branch your money. Their staff is the most poorly trained group of people I've ever encountered and they do not care. I've never heard a story of someone showing up to an Avis CAR RENTAL location and come out with A CAR from that location within a timely manner. Nobody answers the phone, nobody cares to help. Do not rent from them. They can not guarantee the car will be there when you need to pick it up. I rented a SUV two months ago when planning my family vacation. We rented a house for the week and paid in advance for everything and can not cancel. Someone from budget called the night before we were leaving and said that they would not have the vehicle for me. I needed a 6 passenger vehicle. They kept trying to give me a car or truck that would only fit 5 people. They did not care that I kept telling them that I had 6 people going. So now all the vehicles that fit 6 people are all booked everywhere else and there is no way for me to get something else. Taking 2 cars is not an option because there is only one driver. So I'm stuck with either not going and losing thousands of dollars on the house I paid for and all of the activities that I already purchased tickets for (because they won't issue refunds) or leaving one kid at home and telling them that they can not go on the family vacation. Neither of these options are acceptable. The manager and everyone that I spoke to was not even remotely helpful in fixing the situation. read more

DO NOT RENT from this location!! Rented through my app with my budget account, paid in full and when I arrived was told I was an hour late so they gave my rental to someone else. Interestingly, budget corporate says that rentals have a 15-24 hour hold and when it's paid through an active budget account it's a longer hold time. Budget customer service put in an "investigation" as to why the do not follow corporate procedures like they should be. And on top of that she was offering to rent us cars with "check engine" lights on that are considered "out of service"!!!! Are you serious!!??!!??? Isn't that a HUGE liability for budget. Anyone looking for a quick money making lawsuit, visit budget in gurnee mills! Customer service was helpful only to the point of giving me a refund after they directed me to a location that did not have any rentals available. Luckily, enterprise in libertyville was our saving grace! Don't book with budget, go to enterprise! When I asked the woman behind the counter about it, she told me there was nothing she could do, no apologies, no offers of compensation, just a dismissive attitude. I would not recommend this particular chain of Budgets, including the one in Libertyville. Maybe it's me, but customer service seems to have been lost, at least at this business. read more

RENTER BEWARE - They will process your credit card payment and hand you the receipt. This receipt will not reflect any other charges they feel they want to add on. We dropped off the car clean and gave it back with the quarter tank of gas in which they gave it to us with. They claimed the car was dirty when we returned. When I asked if they took pictures or if I could come over and see, she said it's their judgment if it's dirty or not and I am not able to examine her claim nor will she remove the fee. $250 charge to vacuum the car. So BEWARE. You have been warned to not use this location. read more

Terrible experience at this Budget/Avis location. I reserved a compact car through Costco Travel on Tuesday morning for the next day, Wednesday, at 10 am. I received a call from Andre at 8:11 am Wednesday informing me there was a problem. They would not have a car available until about noon. I asked why I could make a reservation online for a car if there were no cars available. He replied "you reserved a rate, not a vehicle." I asked if there were any other vehicles available. He told me "if there were any other cars available, I wouldn't be calling you." So rude and inconsiderate. I then asked if he would let me know when my car came in and he said yes. No call back the entire day. I had to make alternate arrangements for transportation. This is the last time I will be renting a car from them. read more

My impression is that he will do anything to get your business and treat you rudely and "nickel and dime" you thereafter. In my opinion, this establishment is not honest. I made a reservation online and saw that there was a 100$ upcharge for using debit. I was okay with that. Upon arriving the employee was arguing on the telephone with another customer, I took a seat and 10 mins later he greeted me at that moment another customer came in and he decided to help them instead of me. Another 10 mins go by and he finally gets to me and informs me that the debit upcharge isn't 100$ but 200$ or they have to charge 240 plus additional fees (insurance, etc)by the end my rental should have been 248(credit) but because I was using debit the price doubled. Word to the wise unless you have 500-600 ready don't come here thinking you'll get a car or any decent service. read more

This place took my money on a prepaid rental for Apr. 23rd, refused to rent me the vehicle, then promised me a refund within 2 to 4 hours, never happened on 4 subsequent phone calls where I was lied to and told that the refund was being processed, now on the 4th of May, they claim they are processing a refund and it will take at least another seven days. In my opinion, the people at Budget are liars, and since they are keeping my money, they are in my opinion thieves. I will say that the manager Moe, extremely nice, tried to be extremely helpful, Moe can have five stars, I wish I could give Budget 0 stars. read more

Horrible service i called twice to check availability and was told they had a vehicle,went online to reserve and prepay however when i arrived to pick up vehicle i was told they dont accept debit cards and i could not rent a vehicle i stated that i had already paid and the money was taken out of my account to which the rude customer service guy named Moe stated i could have prepaid anywhere i said no i prepaid on YOUR WEBSITE and have the confirmation. I asked about my refund and was told to call their customer service which i immediately did and at first was told that they did accept debit to which i replied no according to moe you do not i was then transferred to a manager who said that my reservation would be canceled and my money refunded in two increments with in 3-5 business days i stated that was no good because im starting a new position on Monday and i need a vehicle to get to work also why the hell am i getting refunded in increments when you took out the full amount? I called my bank who told me that the amount was still pending and to wait to see if it gets returned as i write this it still has not been returned so now im not only out of more than two hundred dollars but also the fifteen dollars i spent on a lyft to get there to pick up the car. First and last time i will attempt to rent from budget will go back to enterprise where my debit is not a problem If my money is not returned by Friday all hell is going to break loose. read more
