I'm hesitant to give a review until I've used a company a few times so I can review them properly. I rent a car 2-3 times a month to go to LAX and Avis is the only reasonable priced company for that. There's another Avis much closer to my house (in the Embassy Suites) but I happily go a little further for the great customer service here. Joseph runs this shop well and always goes the extra mile to help. Always remembers my name and does the little things that make me feel like a valued customer. Embassy Suites Avis by comparison. Once a car I returned had scratches on the bumper (from a previous customer) and when I got the runaround by Avis national headquarters, Joseph jumped right on it to find all the documentation and took care of it all for me. I can't think of many other people who went above and beyond to take care of me. 2 thumbs up to Joseph. read more

This is one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. Don't be fooled by their low prices. Case# 15673248 I purchased a van to rent for the day for a wedding, I returned the van late by 2 hours. Totally my fault. However they told me the extra charges after I returned the van, Which is more than a regular 24 hour day rental. So I said I'd keep it for another day. They said No. Sorry you already gave us the keys that were 1 foot away. Then after dealing with a very rude manager they had me sign off that the van was returned, only to send me an email later on saying that their was a 1" scratch on the front Bumper. Totally a BS call, But now trying to make me pay for a new paint job. This is all because I tried to argue with the manager. DON"T BUY FROM THEM. read more

Joseph was the only one at this location and basically was quick and efficient! He took care of all 5 customers there and got us our cars quicker than most rental car places that would have way more people working there and few customers read more

It's great service,the owner is an awesome. We had rented their car a couple days ago, he was super friendly and helpful. When we had returned the car, I realized I had forgotten some stuffs in the car, I came back 2 days later, and the owner drove me back to the car we had rented to pick up my stuffs with no troublesome!!! read more

This is the worst rental car and rental service I have experienced in San Diego. I regularly rent cars for business from various rental companies in the San Diego area and have had great, professional service everywhere apart from this location. I arrived to pick up the car at 9.30 to get on the road and get to LA for a scheduled meeting, to find a note on the door saying "call if you are picking up a car" I call and get no answer... I call again and get an answer, "Avis La Jolla", I explain I'm waiting for a car outside and he says "I'll be over in a bit" 10mins later a young man comes leisurely strolling down the street from who knows where cap on backwards and pants around his ass..no uniform...no professionalism...I give him my paper work for a Buick mid sized - nothing special as trying to save my bosses their money, suddenly I get a free 'upgrade' to a jeep renegade, which is REALLY not an upgrade, it's sat outside on the main road, we check it over and it's filthy, Cheerios all over back seat, human hair everywhere, random bits of paper on floor and seat, potato chip bags in the door pockets which our friend asks me to pass him...and the steering wheel looks and feels like it's been covered in slime...I tell him this is disgusting, he says he can try to get me another car, times now ticking so I reluctantly decide To take the Petri dish as I cannot be late, final straw now comes in the form of the old 3/4 gas tank trick.....I will have to guess how much gas fills 3/4 on my return, i drive round the corner to my office to load up some things and give the steering wheel a soak with disinfectant spray. My trip to LA is somewhat irrelevant other than to say how terrible the jeep is. I return the vehicle with no inspection or any other kind of conversation other than getting a receipt. I then call customer service and get transferred through 3 different people, give a report of my experience to find they just don't care....hooray for Avis! TERRIBLE car, rental, experience and company, enterprise and Alamo with get my bosses dollars for the rest of my career. Yelp won't let me give a zero stars!! read more

For the first time in 17 years I found myself in a motor vehicle accident that was going to require my car to spend some considerable time in the body shop. My insurance company preferred I used their rental agency of choice, but since I'm a believer in "shop local" and this particular Avis is owned and operated by a local family here, I decided to spend my insurance company's money with them. The reservation was super easy... They let me know what kind of vehicles were in the price range that my insurance company would reimburse for. Once on the lot, they allowed me to select whichever vehicle i felt most comfortable with. As a side note, Joe, (the young man behind the counter) would have explained every knob, dial and switch had I let him. I did allow him to pair my bluetooth phone to the car's interior sound system and it was off I went. For the next 30 days I had nothing to do but drive, fill up with gas and drive some more. When my car was completed at the body shop, they allowed me to leave the rental at the lot and coordinated on their time to go get it. The did everything right, from setting up direct billing with my carrier to making sure I got my car back with a full tank of gas. I hope I'm not in the need for a rental car anytime soon, but if I am, I won't hesitate to return to this Avis in a heartbeat. read more

Issue with this Pick up location. I booked the rental car at 1110 Torrey Pines Road Suite H, La Jolla, CA for pick up at 12:00 noon. I reached the location at 12:45. There is no proper parking space for the customers. The lady at reception was not bad but no "Customer Satisfaction Fist" attitude. The lady at the rental location said the car is not yet available.( Not punctual to inform the customers before hand). One my request she called some one and then she said the car will be available at around 3.00pm. I was totally exhausted . They didn't had any curtsy to offer good customer service to arrange similar car from other location or give some good alternatives to satisfy the customer. I was forced to sit there and got the car at 3.30pm. (VERY BAD). Issue with AVIS not clearly defining the word "Similar cars" and not listing all the cars available in the class a customer is booking. I booked a Standard SUV Ford Edge or similar because of its power (245 @ 5500). Now when I picked up the car they gave me Chevrolet Equinox (182 @ 6700 ) which is not similar to Frod Edge. I checked with FORD guys and they said the equivalent for Chevy Equinox in FORD is Ford Escape.Similar was the opinion of other car comparing experts. Interestingly the car manufacturer itself declines the comparison but, how AVIS came up with that magic equation of comparison not aligned with the car makers and car experts. In my opinion AVIS was one of the good companies to rent a car. Not sure if AVIS will really take some steps in this directions to fix my issues, because after this incident I researched and found lot of people complaining about the grey word "Similar car" and getting car not to their satisfaction. read more

Just got off the phone with them. Very helpful gentleman answered, and although I didn't end up renting he gave me a number to another recommended rental agency. I'd recommend this avis based on the fact that if you are looking for a quick and friendly experience then this is the place. read more
