Worst car rental experience ever! The battery in the car we rented died the day we were to depart for the second leg of our vacation. We called Avis Emergency Roadside Service, expecting service like AAA provides. Ha! That didn't happen. The Avis ERS contractor did not carry batteries and told us not to turn off the car after he started it, and to go back to the airport to exchange the vehicle. It took us over 7 hours, much of which we spent in a hotel lobby, since we had checked out, waiting for the Avis ERS driver to show up. To its credit, Avis reimbursed us for the entire cost of the car rental plus $200. That was nice. But two days after we returned from our vacation, Avis had the gall to send us a bill for emergency road service! At the beginning of the rental period, Avis also initially charged us for an upgrade when it did not have available the category of car that we had reserved. That was an unwelcome first for us. read more

Avis is the worst rental car company, every time! When the charged my credit card it was almost twice the negotiated rate. I did add a $32 option but they charged me more than a $120 extra. And when I spent 45 minutes on the phone to figure out why, they told me they couldn't adjust it for like 48 hours and that I had to call back and spend another 45 minutes on their ridiculous phone system. It's just not worth doing this every time and I'm done with Avis and Budget!!! They really are crooks. read more

I reserved a KIA Soul for four days, as I was driving to California and wanted a car with better gas mileage, cruise control, than my personal vehicle. The plan was to pick it up on Sunday, leave early on Monday so I could spend time with family and friends, do my business leisurely, then drive back Wednesday or Thursday, return the vehicle Thursday. I get an e-mail telling me to pick it up at 12pm Sunday at the Superstition Springs site in Mesa Arizona. I get a second e-mail at 11:31am Sunday stating to pick it up Sunday "at 12pm". I get there at 12:05. They're closed, Sunday hours 8am to 12pm. I call a number and they tell me there's nothing to be done, I'll have to pick it up Monday. They open at 8am. My whole plan to have lunch or early dinner with family is ruined. My daughter drives me to pick it up on Monday, making her late for work. I get into the Avis office, ask for my vehicle, and am informed they don't have any KIA Souls, the car I had reserved. They have other cars, but they'll have to charge me more. No offer to give me what they had on the agreed-upon price. This sounds like bait-and-switch. I left with no car. The daughter had to drive me back to the house, making her all that much later. I get on-line and see Avis has already taken my money. I have tried to get someone on the phone to talk about a refund, and I am now stuck on hold. I have put a dispute with my card company. Not only did Avis fail their contract, they wasted my time and ruined plans, AND they still have my money. I urge everyone to avoid Avis, at least the Superstition Springs office in Mesa, at all costs. read more

I canceled a reservation on Avis a month prior, and switched to Budget (same guy at Mesa airport) however he pulled up the Avis one somehow instead so I ended up with two cars and after almost 2 hours of talking, calling Avis and Budget reservations and have the reservation rep talk with the guy at the counter. Nothing was settled and I still ended up with two reservations and no one could do anything. Beyond frustrating. Also he had me sign the paper of car flaws at the counter BEFORE I could see the car. I did take photos and better not get charged for anything on top of all this mess. read more

If 0 was an option... added fees, and nobody there to check out the vehicle. I had to pay an extra 40 for fees that were not mentioned beforehand. Don't do it it's a trick. If you do, expect to pay 40-60 more than they tell you. read more

We were charged $15 for picking the car up late. Our flight arrived at the Denver airport, we walked down and picked up our luggage, and we walked out to the curb to catch the shuttle bus to take us to the Avis carpark. The Avis shuttle bus took off just as we were getting to it. We had to wait 25 minutes for the next Avis shuttle which dropped us off at the door of the Avis rental office. We waited in line while the customers ahead of us received their cars. When we got to the head of the line, we were told that the building we were in (the one that the shuttle bus dropped us off at the door of) was not the correct building because were not "preferred members." We grabbed our suitcases and walked across the parking lot to the correct building where we waited in line again before receiving our car. We did not realize that we were "late" and were being charged a late fee until we received our credit card bill. It seems that someone should have told us at the time of pick-up so that we could explain what our delay was. On top of that, a "Road Side Service charge" was added to our bill without us being told. We would never have requested this add-on. It was not on our estimated total and we would never have agreed to add it. We have AAA. The car did run well so we are giving a rating of 3 out of 5. read more

Terrible business. Ivan will do whatever it takes to get you out of his hair. Promised me a refund on Monday, Monday came around and still no refund. Even had the audacity to give me my receipt and say have a good day, almost hoping I would forget about what he promised. After he realized he had no idea what he was doing and saying, he got an older Chinese lady named Jill. Jill is even worse to work with, I honestly have no idea how these two haven't gotten fired. I will NEVER be returning to this location. What's even crazier is they told me I could NOT take the vehicle to Mexico. After reaching HR and customer services, I was let know in fact the vehicle can be taken to Mexico. Not sure if this was racial profiling or what but stay AWAY from this location and more specifically those two employees!! Ivan claimed to have only worked there for a year or so, but when his 10+ year of experience manager stepped in, I realized I was speaking to two total idiots. In all seriousness stay away from this specific location, I love Avis and their business but this local was just a huge NO!!!! If I could rate zero stars I would. read more

This is the absolute worst place I have ever dealt with renting a car. We rented a 12 passenger van and the entirecar car smells like vomit. The place is closed we could not return it we tried to return it in California and there was no other vans available and numerous locations. They basically just said a tough luck for you. When I called corporate I complained and got one day back on our rental. When I say that the entire car reeked of vomit its not a joke. There is also a soda can and a roll of paper towels inside the car. I don't even think the car was cleaned. Our family had to go on an entire trip in a disgusting car like that. We will never use then again. read more

I had car trouble on a Sunday morning that required my vehicle to be towed to the dealer. I needed a rental to be able to go to work and did not know for how long. I made my way to Superstition Springs Avis where Jill helped me immediately, gave me a good deal on the car rental (on Super Bowl Sunday) and got me on my way very quickly. The car was clean, got great gas mileage, and was easily returned after hours. I will use this Avis again if the need arises. Thanks to Jill and the team for their help. read more

I can't give this place a total so I rated it 1 star. My wife and I were in a car accident so we came to the Avis on southern only to have issues. They didn't have many rental cars, and the girl Jill said she would wave our fee of an additional driver. She charged our credit card anyway and then said "we can't change it because it's already been charged." And then said call customer service and talk to them basically told us good luck with that because they won't change the charge either. So whatever you do if she says something get it all in writing or find another rental place. read more

The service at this location is second to done. They have a great team. I feel that everyone at this location is focused on me. Jill is normally my point of contact; however, regardless of who is at your service... the outcome is always the same. Stellar Customer Service. The ownership has instilled an environment that empowers employees to deliver sincere and genuine customer satisfaction from the person who welcomes you at the door to the guys washing your car. This location is inside the Sears Auto Center which is located across from the Superstition Springs Mall. I really like this location. They were super friendly, I was in and out with a car quite quickly and I did not have to pay a ridiculous deposit. She upgraded me for free since there were no compact cars and we inspected the car together. The only downside was the car's exterior was extremely dirty which she apologized for, Quick Tip: Check your credit card company to see if they offer car rental insurance. I declined insurance since Discover and Citi Card both offer insurance for free! read more

Five star experience and then some! I wish I could remember the name of the sweet woman who greeted us at check in and also helped us check out. Very personable and friendly. I know she said she used to live in the Bay Area. She gave us a great car that we enjoyed for 4 days. When we checked out, my sister met us to take us to the airport. When we were getting ready to leave, my sisters new VW bug wouldn't start. She had never had that issue before and was a little dumbfounded. We waited and it still wouldn't start. We started to get worried that we wouldn't get to the airport on time. My husband was trying to help my sister troubleshoot the issue and I went inside to use the bathroom. I mentioned to the woman that my sisters car wasn't starting and she said that the tire center that was connected to Avis could help if we needed it. I came out of the bathroom and my sisters car was running! The woman had gone out to help and apparently it was a glitch where the steering wheel locked and it was very common in VW bugs. We were so impressed and thankful that she went out of her way to help us! We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Highly recommend and thank you again!! read more

Have nothing but great things to say about this place. I made a reservation and I was running late, got to this place and Jill immediately told me that I was at the wrong location for my rental car pickup. Then quickly started on switching my reservation to her location because the other office would be closed by the time I got there. She looked through her inventory and she was able to get me into a car and on my way. What I thought would be a stressful situation turned into a very relaxing experience. She was so helpful and nice...renting my cars here from now! read more

If no stars were an option, that would have been my choice. Reserved a car here that Avis agreed to deliver to the local airport, they emailed me confirming this, and when I arrived - no car. Jill was less than helpful. She kept repeating "it wasn't me" as if that was at all helpful to the situation. Yes, it's less expensive to rent here, but renter beware, they don't honor their agreements, nor do they care. read more

We have had good experience dealing with this location here. The lady (Jill/Joy?) was helpful, I always try to deal with her. There was a guy who works weekends and I am not impressed by him. We had rented cars here ourselves and we had brought friends here when they needed cars. Every time we came, we have received good services and fair pricing. Be very careful when dealing with Jill. She will add extra charges to your reservation and when you address it during the initial and signature she talk down to you and make the situation awkward. Be very very careful when dealing with this location. Make sure you have a full tank of gas or else if you return it with the same amount as you got it she will charge you to fill the tank. Horrible customer service never will rent from here again. read more
