I had a reservation set for 12:00 PM, and due to a late ride, I arrived at approximately 12:15. The doors to the location were open, and an employee, Eli, was standing there doing nothing. When I approached to pick up my vehicle -- a reservation that was already paid for and confirmed in advance -- he told me they were closed for the day. To be clear, this wasn't a matter of policy or circumstance beyond anyone's control. This came down entirely to Eli's own attitude and unwillingness to help. He made no effort to check if an exception could be made, no offer to call anyone, nothing. When I asked if this meant he was ruining our vacation, he just shrugged it off like it wasn't his problem. For a pickup that required minimal effort on his part, his indifference was the entire issue. I'll admit that, unfortunately, because he had just jeopardized our vacation plans, I did lose my cool a bit as I walked out. I'm not proud of that reaction, but it reflects how frustrating and disrespectful the entire interaction felt in the moment. I've chosen Avis over other rental companies for years specifically because of the consistently great service I've received. This is exactly why this experience was so disappointing -- it wasn't Avis's service that failed me, it was Eli's. Because of him, I was forced to scramble and book with other rental companies that, ironically, are located closer to my home than his location. I had been driving the extra distance to this location because I trusted Avis to take care of me, and that trust was broken in a single interaction. I won't be renting from Avis again, and I'll be sharing this experience with our corporate travel agency, who regularly asks us to evaluate our experiences with their service partners. I hope this feedback results in real accountability for Eli specifically, and better training on basic customer empathy going forward. read more

I read many of the reviews for this location and still gave this place a try since all of the reviews were years old! I first gave this location a try several months ago because it is close to my home and saves me miles and time from driving to the Ontario Airport. When looking for value for the type of cars I wish to reserve they are lower than most of the other offices in my area. The first time I was concerned that I would cut my time too close to their closing hours, I called and left a message stating my concern and got there slightly before they were to close, and found an employee still there, who stated that they got my message and planned to wait an additional15 to 20 minutes for me. My check in went quick and smoothly. The Employee was very pleasant and did not make me feel as if I had inconvenienced him in the least. I promised to use them again when I needed another rental in the future. It so happened that I have needed to rent more than I expected and returned to this location as promised, met Sam who greets everyone with a huge smile and pleasant attitude. Sam offered us a car and solution to the time restrictions that has caused us to go to the airport or locations with later hours. He looked hard for ways that made using his office very smart and reasonable. Their loaners are always very clean and comfortable. I was also advised that the loaner that we got was serviced with a fresh oil change and tire check because we inform them before we rented the car that we had a long road trip ahead of us. This gave us great peace of mind with the car that we were assigned. We have rented from this location many times and have found it to be the best car rental location and experience ever. The reviews that I read as mentioned are very old and I highly recommend giving this location another try. This is one of my highly recommended businesses that I refer when the opportunity presents itself. Great Customer Service and Great Value for the category of cars reserved. Worst. Car rental place. Ever. I never made a negative review but I think this one is due. I made a vehicle reservation a month ago for a seven passenger vehicle. I am going to Tahoe for five days so I knew I needed to make an early reservation. Avis decided to give me a phone call approximately 30 minutes ago to advise me. They have no vehicles when I am supposed to pick up a rental car from them tomorrow there is no compensation no working to assist me just called me and said I am SOL and have a good day. Especially they did it right before Mother's Day and the day before my birthday. Since we live close by, my family has been renting from this business for more than 10 years, and over that time we have had worse and worse experiences. I'm not sure if it is just the bad attitude of the staff or a management/ownership issue, but the quality of service is definitely not what it used to be. This time, from beginning to end, I don't have anything good to say about how I was treated. I prepaid for the rental and thought it would be just a quick pickup, but it took more than 30min to check us out partly because the lady helping us was so slow preparing our paperwork and also because the car was not in good condition when we inspected it. The representative's explanation was that they were using the cars longer, even if they were banged up and stained. For the trip itself the car did fine. Afterwards, when we went to turn it in, we got the same person (MaryAnn?), and she was unbelievably rude this time. Because she saw some pet hair on the driver's side floor mat (I must have tracked it in on my shoes that morning), she threatened to send us a cleaning bill. She didn't bother to look at the completely fur-free seats or any of the other carpeting before chewing us out about having pets in the car. We told her she was completely wrong in her accusation, but because she was being so brusque about it, my husband removed the floor mat, and brushed it off right there in the parking lot, while she just stood next to him and watched. It was frustrating and humiliating, and we were both shaking with emotion by the time we left. When she drove the car around the back of the building to wash it (because apparently the representatives have to do that themselves), we quickly took some pictures of the interior because we don't trust them to not still try to bill us for some other made-up reason. I'm posting them with this review to show how unreasonable her behavior was and how quick they are to try and bill for things that should be regular wear and tear. The only reason I'm not giving this business one star is because the car worked so well, but there are plenty of rental places in our area that can give us a good car and good customer service. This review is for the AVIS corporation. This branch and the people working there were fine. We reserved a 12 passenger van 5 months in advance and booked a $2000 nonrefundable AirBnB. At 6pm the day before our trip, AVIS calls me and said they don't have a van available. I know that most companies overbook their vehicles so that they ensure they make money. They don't care what happens to the individual families whose vacations are ruined and costly. They did not offer any compensation, just a dry apology. I had to ask them to look within a 50 mile radius for other inventory and of course they, nor any other company was able to come up with a van on such short notice. The whole industry, but especially AVIS needs to do better than this: Overbooking to ensure they make money in volume, but at the expense of many families. read more

I really respect the system in place at this local branch. For both pick up and drop off there was only one attendant behind the counter, but he moved efficiently. He was patient with my when my credit card company threw me an unpleasant surprise or two. I really appreciate how much of the headache he eliminated for me in real time. I rent a lot of cars, and I just wish every car rental company had him behind their counter. I just wish I recalled his name. I don't know how many other employees there are, but he needs an MVP award or something. Do not rent from the Avis location at Ontario Airport. It is operated by a bunch of crooks! $320 was added to my rental for an upgrade that I did not request. There was something wrong with the fuel gauge and after filling up at the gas station, the gauge still read not full. I added more gas and the gauge did not move. I explained this to the person checking in the car and they said no problem. Some cars have faulty fuel gauges. He assured me I would not be charged. When I received my final bill, there was an added fuel charge. I am a long time Avis Preferred member and rent cars on a weekly basis for work. If they are bold enough to cheat a Preferred member, they will surely cheat and rip off a non Preferred member. If you have to rent from this location REQUEST A PRINTED CONTRACT when you pick up the car AND A PRINTED RECEIPT WITH ALL THE CHARGES WHEN YOU LEAVE. DO NOT FALL FOR THE EMAIL RECEIPT SCAM AS THIS IS HOW THEY ADD ON THOSE FAKE CHARGES WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. Businesses like this need to be put out of business for taking advantage of customers. We just moved to the area and this location was the closest rental car spot near us that we were able to book through Costco. We did get an amazing deal for our Mammoth/ Lake Tahoe vacation last month. The lady who helped us was very indifferent. She wasn't mean, but also not really friendly, just kind of straight to the point doing her job which neither of us had a problem with. She actually gave us an upgraded vehicle at no additional charge, we didn't even know until we got the keys, so that was awesome! The car was amazing and we felt very comfortable driving it and had no issues. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because we had a return time on Friday when they close. We got stuck in some unpredicted traffic when we were almost home (some idiot on a trailer blocking the 2 lane road we couldn't pass) but had enough time for the return. We thought they closed at 6pm, like it shows on their Yelp page, but come to find out they close at 5pm. Good luck calling them because no one answers the phone there. We got back at around 5:20pm and had no choice, but to return the car Saturday morning. We do the drop off and all looks good, but because we were "late a day" we got charged another day. This was expected and on the contract it says it would just be a day charge at $45ish and we totally understand. They did not mention you also get charged the full coverage we opted for which brought the total to $100. We had to pay for coverage just for having the car sit in our driveway overnight. We tried explaining we were on time, but their location closed earlier than what was posted, but they don't care. Trying not to see it as too much of a loss since we did get that free upgrade, but they need to update their hours or explain their terms better. Mary Ann and her staff are the best! I have always had such a great experience working with them and the one thing that I am really grateful for is that Mary Ann talked me into getting insurance on my car when I took my first trip to Texas. I was reluctant but went ahead and did it and low and behold, hit a wild pig in Arizona that would have cost me in the thousands after all was said and done. It's nice to know that she actually cares! The other thing you'll find at this location is that it's much cleaner inside and the cars are clean as well! When your shopping around for rated, you'll also notice that they have fair prices that are very competitive. By far the worst rental company out there. Rented a car for a road trip, they gave it to us dirty, the change oil light came on the next day, the front tires were really low with air and bald, and the breaks were horrible. Every time we stepped on the break the car shook. We called and asked if we could return it 24 hours early and she said it would only save $1... not sure about that logic. I would never go through them again. I am so disappointed in this company, not to mention they didn't have the best customer service for the amount of money you spend. Mary Ann Dodier is the representative that handled my rental and let me start off by saying she is the rudest person I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. First of all I told her I cannot have a car that has been smoked in because I have severe allergies. She assured me that there is strictly no smoking in any of their vehicles. She put me in a dodge and 10 minutes into driving it my skin was on fire and the car wreaked like an ash tray. I had to taken to urgent care and my face is now covered in hives. I brought the car back a day late since I clearly couldn't drive after being given 3 benedryl IVs. She tells me to provide medical documentation (because she's blind and I guess she couldn't see the hives all over my face) and I did. I call her after I sent it and even after seeing it still charges my card for an extra day. WHAT. I am so livid worst customer service I have ever experienced. Beyond rude. Do not rent a car from here their cars are absolutely disgusting and their customer service is even worse. For absolutely no reason He was looking for ways to charge me more money . He started with gas tank he said it wasn't full enough. Booked for a two week rental. Note that this is an independent owned Avis and the service and cleanliness of the car is different than the standard Avis I'm accustomed to . Car was available when I picked it up at 5pm. My coworker said many times they were sold out even though he reserved one and had to drive to the Ontario airport for a replacement. Exterior of the car was clean but it was night so i couldn't see the interior and the next morning the interior was rather filthy. The dashboard was quite dusty and it bothered me so much that I had to clean the dashboard and the rear window (inside) had never been cleaned. It appears the owner just takes the car for a quick exterior wash. Upon returning the car back everything went smoothly except the owner said I was 2 gallons short and the Gas had to be ABOVE the Full line and not AT the Full line. I knew it was not two gallons short because I just filled it up in Fontana and I averaged 32MPG during the entire rental. He said I could fill it up or pay him two gallons ($7 cash only) so I filled it up myself not willing him to give him anything extra. He probably wanted to pocket the cash because why would he care and waste his time to fill the car for 2 gallons (not even close) if the next renter is going to rent it out shortly? How many gallons did I fill up? 0.30 Gallons until the gas pump clicked and stopped!!!! I'm not trying to cheat a few gallons but all other rental companies allow 1/8 of the tank gauge shortage without a surcharge but the owner wanted it to be ABOVE the full line and not AT the full line.That's only 1/20 of the fuel gauge. I would of given this place a 1 star but resorted to 2 stars because it was $80 cheaper for a two-week rental via Costco's website. read more

Instead, they attempted to give us another vehicle so when we tried and cancel the manager gives up an "upgrade" I later found out. Keep in mind, we have waited 30 mins past our pick up time. The next day when we drop off the vehicle, the manager walks out very unprofessional with an attitude and charges us another day for being 30 mins late. I've rented here twice, once on the budget side and once on the Avis side. Both times I was attended to by Maryann, who, to say the least, is rude and very condescending - she speaks to people as if they are stupid and don't speak English. And if you should decline the liability coverage she becomes rabid. She actually had the nerve to ask me how I'd pay for the car if there was an accident. She asked me to upgrade to an SUV for an additional $10 a day after telling someone on the phone that they were sold out on the Avis and Budget side.... so how can I upgrade? Well because they didn't have the class car I rented so I would've been given the upgrade anyway and guess what I'd of paid for it - these peeps are slick. Last thing was I called to get info on extending the rental --the phone number on the contract was never answered. So I called Corporate and asked what the grace period was for return and was told 29 minutes. My husband was able to return it at 4:28 and the clerk behind the desk tried to charge him $67 late fee. I will never rent from this location again, there's Hertz right down the street and they are actually really nice. read more
