For the most part my experience at Budget, Ontario was good. The lady was all business, which I really liked. I am guessing it is a new protocol for car rentals. Same thing happened to me at a different company, but didn't happen in previous years. She asked me what brought me to CA, what was the purpose of my visit, what were my plans, what was I going to do. When she didn't get a straight answer to those questions - she asked again. She offered some extra services but didn't push for them. One thing she didn't explain was how to return the car when the office is closed. She also didn't tell me that we needed to keep the slip she gave us - it was needed at the return. Return itself was easy. There was an attendant at the parking who was helping with the return and taking pictures of a returned car. Car was in a good condition, full tank, running smoothly. Front windows were very dirty. I typically have a great experience at Budget. The staff are often joyful and kind. I came early in the morning upon opening. There were 6 people already in line. There was not a positive regard or focus on customer service for people in line. The gentleman who may have been the manager was more focused on straightening (to his liking) the stantions with the retractable ropes instead of focusing on customers and taking the line down. I actually rented my car through Priceline and wanted to potentially extend the rental beyond the return day. I wanted to know a price. The man refused to let me know what the cost would be stating it would only be potentially up to 3 times the amount I originally had rented it for because I went through a third party and if I wanted to extend the rental for a week, an amount could not be given to me. In questioning how this would even make any sense, he stood by the idea he could not give me a dollar amount because I went third party. So basically, as a customer, you need to just say yes and they can charge you pretty much an amount without your consent which makes no sense, is highly illegal under CA law. read more

They charge their clients to wash their vehicles even if they are not dirty. I used the car very little and didn't eat in it at all. They charged me 150.00. "If it is not returned as you got it we charge you." I think it was just as good as when I got it but their AI found a window smudge and some grass clippings in the mat. This is disgusting. I could have had it washed for 30.00. I've never been charged for cleaning, even when the car was messy from kids. I will never rent from them again. Update- fraudulent charges and RUDE customer service. After having this review posted and responding to their survey regarding the terrible service, I received a letter that I would be charged $125 for a cleaning fee since I returned the car with "damage". I knew that I had not, so I contacted them by phone only to speak to a super rude agent. She would not consider that they might have made an error, but I was able to get her to send me the pictures of the "damage" (a spot in the carpet, two empty water bottles and an empty cracker sleeve) which clearly showed an odometer reading that would have been prior to my renting the vehicle. I emailed back providing THEIR OWN documentation showing "damage" prior to my rental and proof of the odometer during my rental only to receive another email that they had "verified that the charges were appropriate." so they either don't even read the correspondence sent to them or someone doesn't know how numbers work. I sent yet another email, explaining to them how odometers and numbers work in a sequence. Your odometer number with "damage" came before my odometer reading at pickup. WOW. After 4 days of back-and-forth, rude phone agents, and completely unhelpful email responses I got one tonight that said "oops. Sorry. We won't charge you". These guys take the cake. Called to note that this was wrong and intended to push every button as decline decline but I recall the agent pushed one button and I clearly missed it. DO NOT PREPAY online a huge mistake I rented a car prepaid online for 7 days the trip was cut short because of bad weather. I returned the car 2 days early and informed the person at the drop off, when I did not receive my receipt I went inside to the counter. I was then told I should have kept the car I said ok I'll go out side and get the car. They said not without another $200 deposit even though had not refunded $200 from the initial rental. They said we don't do refunds. I replied you can't keep the car and not refund me. I called Customer service they offered to adjust my account and refund the 2 days. Finally customer service agreed to a refunds it took 6 representatives trying update the refund and escalated my issue. Finally I got a rep to send me an email of the amount owed to me $161. I rented a car from Budget to drive up to San Francisco, the wheels were completely bald. I took it into Ontario airport for an exchange, and they refused to acknowledge the safety issue. Not a single person apologized for giving me a defective car. They would not exchange the car or give me a car that would fit all my luggage and my toddler safely, they recommended I drop the back seat and squeeze the luggage next to my toddler. Unbelievable! The manager was also a jerk, didn't even bother to come out to look at the vehicle with me or look at the pictures I had taken of the vehicle. I even said I would pay for an upgrade to put me in a bigger vehicle, and they said they didn't have any cars available. Yet there were people in line without reservations getting cars. As I waited impatiently with my toddler and all my luggage, I saw all the customer service reps, literally escort all the white clients to their cars. I saw them be totally racist (even though they are all black customer service agents) and treat all the white folk with golden smiles, while me and my family of color watched them go by. I literally cried because of how angry the situation made me, I looked like a fool. We, of course, took the only option they gave us, which was to leave the car. They charged me the full price for the rental, even though I only had it for 90 minutes (45 of which was while I waited in their line/counter). We leave fly home and 3 weeks later get a damn charge on my CC. They said we were smoking in the car and they had to clean it also. I'm always on the hunt for a deal and surprisingly a discount link from my Southwest flight confirmation (read those emails people) got me the best price on a car for my upcoming weekend in Palm Springs. After arriving by a quick shuttle from the terminal, there was no line at all. Sweet. I had booked a compact car but the guy behind the counter gave me the "we have a mini van and a pickup truck to choose from" schpiel when it came time to pick it up. Uhh, no. That's not happening, I reply. Check again bro. I laughed with the guy behind the counter and asked him what car he thought I should be driving to my fun-filled weekend in Palm Springs. Front desk got me into a nice car--that's about all they did right. Returned the car without any issues. Drove in and did a walk around and quick inside inspection with one of the budget employees. Nothing was brought up. 2 weeks later, I get a letter in the mail from Budget saying they're charging me $125 for excessive dirt. So not true. I did a walkthrough with one of their employees and she didn't say anything about the cleanliness. This how they do business?? Send me a letter in the mail after the fact? I called customer service and they would only remove 50% of the fee. They did have photos of the car but it was merely some foot prints from my boots and a dirt scuff mark from getting in and out of the car (pretty standard when you hit the door with your boot/shoe after you armor-all the inside of the car trim). In order to get a full refund I needed to talk to someone at the actual physical location and have them call customer service to remove the cleaning fee. Okay, so I call the physical Ontario office for 3 days and at various times--no one ever answers the phone!! I even went as far as calling another car rental company that works down the counter from Budget and asked if anyone was working at the Budget stand. They confirmed they were looking at employees as we speak!! I tried calling them again but they still didn't answer. Anyways, I called back to customer service and refused to accept the charge. A shuttle picks you up at the airport and brings you to the rental car place. They have several rental car companies in the same building. When we arrived the line was short, only one staff member for rental company. Went on a work trip, my husband's company covered the cost for the rental. They usually rent economy vehicles, my husband is a big guy so he usually requests an upgrade to a Midsize SUV, other places have given him the upgrade without any problems. When he requested the upgrade here with Laura who was in The Avis booth, and helped us with reservation. She immediately said your company reserved an economy vehicle, my husband had to tell her that he didn't fit in an economy vehicle, it was going to be very uncomfortable for him to drive. She just ignored him and gave him a Toyota Prius. When he went to see the car. He got upset and went back inside and asked to change the vehicle. She then told him that if he wanted a bigger car he should let his company know. She ended up giving him a slightly bigger vehicle. When he met with his other coworkers at the hotel, they were helped by the other lady that was working there. They each one had an SUV. One even had a Ford Expedition, that is not an economy vehicle!!! We've never had any problems with Budget, but at this location having an employee like Laura made us think that CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKED at this location!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I had a reservation with Budget. Arrived at car rental desk- reservation was made in my name through Costco but my husband's Fastbreak number was attached to reservation. Was told I needed to make a new reservation and would need to go to the inside desk which had a long line. Went online to create a new reservation- due to car shortages my car was now abut $400 more for the 3 day rental. I asked to speak to a manager and it took him 35 minutes to come out to speak with me. His reponse to my frustration- "I'm sorry you see it that way." I would give 0 star if I could. Just called Budget customer service and found out that Budget charged me an extra bill ($135.51) for my current reservation. Their "record" showed that I returned my car later than the return day (4/19, 1:30 pm), but it's NOT correct. I returned my car earlier than 1:30 pm on 4/19. When I dropped off the car and planned to check out, the guy working over there told me just leave the car key in the car and leave. He DID NOT even give me a receipt. I did not have a good experience with budget car rental in Ontario international Airport location. Originally booked my car rental through priceline.com. Manny offered me the additional insurance coverage and when declined, did not seem happy and and mentioned I was getting a new vehicle which was not true at all. Was not satisfied with vehicle he selected for us which was a minivan, was not washed very well on the exterior and most especially the interior. Went back inside and requested another vehicle. Had major scratch and some exterior issues, took photos prior to driving off in the event I would get charge for additional damage. Then, upon exit when budget employee verified drivers license info and rental agreement, did not even inspect the vehicle with me and just said as long as you have photos is good to go. Which I thought was different. then when returning vehicle, right before closing, could not even find a dropbox (return box) for the keys. Did not feel comfortable dropping it off on what appeared to be a trashcan or lost and found box. Decided to drop off keys to budget/Avis representative and assumed all was well. Did not even get a receipt or a print out whatsoever. A few days passed by and noticed I was charged twice the amount of my rental agreement thinking the additional deductible added on top of my current charges. Called budget rental and the guy I spoke with asked me when I return the vehicle. I was surprised considering when I gave my confirmation number, Budget would automatically have the drop off time recorded on their system. Overall it seems the employees do not care very much for their customers. 1) when I spoke to the budget representative on the phone, he asked me if I return the vehicle with a full tank of gas in which I did. 2) ask me when I return the vehicle which I was really surprised since I thought a representative at budget would fill out my rental agreement and was never filled out when I left with the vehicle, and when I return the vehicle.
