I returned the car with a full tank, the agent asked me whether I had done so, I said yes,. But when I found my credit card had been charged 30% more than I had expected to be charged and called Budget customer service billing about it, they told me I had not only been charged for the fuel but some other add'l charges as well, both of which had to be refunded me. We had a terrible experience at this Budget location. We had booked a prepaid one week rental with a car seat. When we got there to pick up the car, it was only 10:30 in the morning and the lady at the counter was already having a meltdown. She was yelling at other staff, cursing under her breath, and generally made us feel very unwelcome. They didn't keep a car seat ready (which they are legally obligated to provide) and wouldn't refund the money for it. The system didn't allow it was the explanation given. I felt like I had made a grave mistake by even booking a car seat. After much back and forth, we were told that they had a car seat but it wasn't clean. We had to go back later to pick it up. Just because demand is high, cars are flying off the shelf and you are making a killing doesn't mean that customers should not be treated with respect. Next time I am in Santa Barbara, I will definitely not be renting from this location. read more

WHAT A NIGHMARE EXPERIENCE AT THIS LOCATION. We rented cars from this agency before. In the past they were located near the train station so we just assumed that's where we were to go. PLEASE NOTE they have moved. We walked for over an hour with all our luggage trying to find this place. It's across the freeway A SCARY WALK! This place is in the weirdest place and hard to find. A small door opening leading to narrow steep stairs. And that was the only way to access this business. I could not climb the stairs so if i were there without my husband, I don't know what I would have done! If you have mobility issues it's impossible to get to the counter to rent a car! Then the rental cars are in a different location and there is no help at all. We were shocked. Didn't know that businesses could operate this way. That there were some people who couldn't or wouldn't be able to get to the car that they had rented. We were there on a Tuesday May 31th, 2022 NEVER AGAIN! read more

Terrible service. Reserved a car, which was not going to be ready for another hour. They offered an "upgrade" that would be ready now, or I could wait for my compact car. I opted to wait the hour. 10 mins later they notified me that my reservation could not be honored because they had no cars left. So they tried to up charge me and when it didn't work they left me to find a rental on the spot at one of the counters, which cost me more than 2x my reservation cost. They either offered more reservations than they had cars for or decided that my business wasn't worth it if they couldn't sneak in extra charges. Either way, they've lost my respect and I hope this review spares anyone else a horrible experience. read more

I rent a car from them about 3 times and month and it's always the best experience. Santa Barbara went through some major weather (read: fires/ mudslides) and they did whatever they could to take care of their customers who needed cars to get out or had cars that couldn't get them back. I took the Amtrak to Santa Barbara. I reserved a car at the Avis near the train station. The train was having engine issues and we arrived 2 hours late!! I remained in contact with Paula at Avis. I arrived just as they were scheduled to close. Paula had an employee at the station, waiting to pick me up and take me to Avis!! Paula had me in and out with my rental car. The staff remained over half an hour past their closed time just to get me into my rental ... I am so grateful and happy with Avis and will no doubt continue renting from here on my future trips to Santa Barbara!!!! Just a quick two block walk from the Santa Barbara train station, this Avis location is supremely convenient. They have a variety of rental vehicles at competitive prices. The service was most helpful and informative than any of the other area car rental agencies I called (with Enterprise being the worst). My car was clean and in good condition (not smokey, sticky, or in any way gross). The reason I'm giving 4 stars is that they don't provide road maps or even a city map of Santa Barbara. Maybe I'm old school, but I think that as a basic customer service car rental agencies should at the very least carry maps of the immediate city as well as the state. read more

A-Mazing Service by JJ and team. Above and beyond. We came to SB on a cruise ship and stood at the Sea Landing for 45 minutes stranded by the rental place we had booked prior to the trip (starts with an E who claims to pick you up). Nobody in sight. Once we called the local office of the E company and sat on hold for 20 minutes to then be disconnected we were frustrated and ready to begin our day. Being familiar with SB I called Avis and spoke with JJ. I said we were stranded and needed two cars pronto. Took a quick ride over and he had the two cars ready to go. We were on the road driving away in literally 10 minutes in our Avis rental cars. On that ride over to Avis my Father lost a bag in an Uber. We called the driver and no bag could be found. Well JJ at Avis wanted to double check. So he called the Uber driver himself and followed up after our ship had left. The bag was found and JJ called us to personally say he had the bag in safe keeping. We are home now and we are receiving our lost items tomorrow, shipped by JJ at Avis personally. Amazing service and his entire team was extremely helpful. Being that we were on a ship the rest of the week communication was spotty from us but they ensured that they followed through on every promise. Then after dropping the car off JJ personally drove us back to the ship. Thank you Avis! I hope this is read by the regional office and more because that team working last Monday deserves huge praise and company wide recognition. read more

Overall okay. The return policy is odd. My Aussie guest rented a car a week ago (and paid) for his return trip to LAX ($40). We then considered that we might drive to LA, go to the LA Art Museum and then drive to LAX (his flight is at 11:00 PM). However, even with a 5-day beforehand request to cancel the car rental ... the cancellation fee is $50. So, we decided to pick-up the car and then immediately return it. Problem is, we can't get the car until 2:00 PM ... so the plan got goofed-up. $40 to rent the car, $50 to cancel the car (5-days before pick-up). Odd. read more

Don't count on your car being ready when you expect it to be or for them to have what you requested. Also don't count on a grace period for returns. Was made to wait 20 minutes, which isn't much unless you have somewhere to be, like most people at an airport. read more

Everything went fine at first break are great value good service then I received a wrongful charge that was nearly 700 dollars. they admit it was wrong but refused to take it off. Instead referred me to their corporate office who told me just to go back to them and have them do it my card was maxed my credit was wrecked and my account was closed and they took no responsibility for the huge mistake. They just didn't seem to care. later that day received a charge for $217., didn't even rent a car from them again.How can correct this situation. Rented a car for a quick day trip to L.A. I picked up my car and was on the road about 5 minutes later. The sales associate helped me out in saying I shouldn't go with their prepaid gas tank fill up which saved me about $20 in the end. Trip went smoothly. Return was super easy too. read more

I rented a vehicle from Avis, Santa Barbara, which I booked online. Online, I declined all added insurances since I have my own coverage. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle the agent at the counter asked if I wanted Premium insurance, which I said no to, he then handed me my receipt that I had the agreed-upon online. However, when I returned the vehicle and received the final bill, it showed that I was charged insurance (double the rental fee), which I did not notice until I got back to work since I was returning the car during my lunch break and was in a hurry. I immediately tried calling the Santa Barbara Avis dealer but no one picked up and as I called throughout the day, no ever picked up. So then I was transferred to general customer service where the phone lines were super shotty, I got hung up on twice, and when I finally got to speak to someone they could not help me. This was the worst rental experience I have ever had. Clearly the Santa Barbara agent pulled a fast one on me and my fault was trusting Avis employees. Never again. read more

A heads-up: They're going to charge you $50 to cancel your reservation ($150 if it's within 24 hours of the pick-up time). Next time, I'm going to wait till the last minute to book. I booked more than a month in advance and cancelled two days later, so it's not like they were holding a car for me. The airlines pull the same stuff, so I guess Avis figured "Why not us?" I rented a Mazda 3 car from AVIS, SBA airport on 25 -27 December 2016 for Las Vegas trip. This particular car has a lot of problems and the customer service is even horrible. First when I rented the car the meter was not full, I took a picture of that. There was a long queue, so I did not show up them immediately. Later I returned the car as I got it. They charged me more than I initially agreed to. Problems are: 1. I understand later why the fuel tank was not full. There was (may be still is) a problem with the fuel tank lid. It does not pop-up automatically when you pull the tank lid open button. We had to spend ~30min at ~10pm at gas station (it was very cold and wind was quite strong) to open the lid. My friend got injured twice and bleed to open that as we had no clue how to open the lid. Later we found that one needs to pull the string and another guy needs to use something to pull the lid manually. 2. The seat belt buckle at caallthe driver side is not good. It pop-out automatically. You need to push hard to lock that. I returnd the car at 2am in the morning, so nobody was there at the counter. Therefore I wrote 2 notes mentioning all the problems and hoping this will save next customer from facing such problem. 1 I put at the drivers seat and another at the key drop box with the key. I was expecting some sort of call from them as of courtesy, but they did not. Seems like they DONT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER. Rather I found they charged more. So I went directly to the Avis airport counter and tell the repre sentative about these issues. He took notes and told me that the manager will call me. NOBODY CALLED. After waiting ~7days, I called the customer service again, and after transferring through some lines, at last i got connected with a guy. HE CUTS THE LINE BEFORE HEARING EVERYTHING FROM ME!!!!!
