The car was great and the people who were on site when we returned the car were great. So, for those two items, I'd give this place 5 stars. HOWEVER: the person at the desk the day we arrived and went to get the car we'd reserved ahead of time was about the worst customer service person I've ever met in my 62 years. She was so bad it almost seemed like it could be a comical skit about a very bad customer service person. I called this location 4 times trying to find out whether I could exchange the car. They immediately put me only hold and never answered, just waiting until their phone system hung up on me. I drove over. After watching them struggle with the first customer in line for 10 minutes, I'll called Avis directly. The person at the counter shouted at me that they didn't have any available cars, and answer she could have given me in the phone in 30 seconds. It is the worst customer service! Never again!!! From the Santa Fe Cerillos Staff when we pick up the car until we exchange in ABQ and the worst when we return the vehicle. They call us to pick up the vehicle an hour later suppose to be at 8:30am and was moved to 9:30am. We did the pre check the water for the wiper is completely empty and the anti-freeze liquid is at minimum level. Whe asked the staff to refill and they said we can just buy and they will refund the money. The signal light at the back is not working and they send us to ABQ airport to switch the vehicle and it took us another 6 hours to figure everything out. It messes our travel plans and we almost didn't make it. They told us to compensate 1 day rent but didn't get any refund at all. I called twice but nothing. read more

We booked online and prepaid for a small car 6+ months in advance. When we arrived on 9/21 we were told no small cars were available. We wanted a small car because we knew we would be driving about 2000 miles. Our only choice was a luxury car (which we were given for the same price...expect for the extra gas expense!). We had A LOT difficulty finding it in the parking area. When we did, we noticed it was very dirty on the exterior and had several scrapes and dings. We returned to the rental office in the airport and was told to take pictures of the damages and it was dirty because of a water shortage. The car drove fine and served its purpose for us. (Thus, 1 star!) Upon returning the car (in a terrible rainstorm), we had trouble finding a place to park it in the rental area (Hertz and Avis share a parking area). We parked in the Hertz area because there was no space in the adjacent Avis area. When we talked to the girl at the desk, we were told we couldn't park it there and we needed to move it to the general lot. So...we went back out in the rainstorm and moved it. Upon returning to the desk we were asked for the mileage and level of gas in the vehicle. So...back out in the rainstorm. (Although we were told when we picked it up that all we had to do was drop off the keys.) By now were were getting ready to board a plane and were drenched! Additionally, we returned the car early and needed to be reimbursed for 1 day. We were told at the counter to contact customer service since we booked and prepaid online. Upon talking to customer service a few hours later, they confirmed that we should see a credit of $77.00 to my account in a few days. I didn't. So I called and was told that money went to pay for the gas (But I thought we prepaid for gas prior to getting the keys to return the car without gas). I gave up and won't use Avis again. read more

I rented from Avis hoping to have a decent experience, however it was a huge disappointment. I wanted to rent a small car just go get around town so I reserved a midsize Toyota Corolla, but once I asked for my vehicle the lady said, "The smallest car I have is a truck." A sedan and a truck are not even CLOSE to being similar. Absolutely misleading. I would have gone elsewhere if that was my only option. Also, when I was dropping off the car the same lady (not sure her name but her employee ID is 97269) I asked if there was any fees I needed to be aware of and she rudely said, "I don't have time, just put the keys in the drop box." We made reservation for a mid-sized car through Costco's travel site. Arrived at airport and took rental car shuttle, all other agencies had multiple people working at the front desks, except Avis who had only ONE employee and about 20 people waiting in line. After more than an hour of waiting in line we were finally given instructions to find our rental and went outside to find it. After roaming a bit we found someone to help find it and left on our own to figure out how to use the vehicle (electronic dash) no or given the opportunity to note any existing damage-we drove to the exit where we were met by an employee who said to just take pictures if we were worried about it. We headed out of town intending to drive to Santa Fe and stopped for lunch, we took pictures of the existing dents and noticed that booth front tires were bald and cracked with, big chunks of tread missing. Totally unsafe to drive! We then called Avis to ask if we could exchange the vehicle at an Avis near us vs driving all the way back to the airport location. After several calls and voice prompts finally were able to speak to someone who told us we could go to ANY Avis and exchange the car. We had to find one then get try to find it, only to be told that we had to go back to the airport location to exchange it. By now we had wasted 4 hours of our first day of 4 vacation days and not very happy to have to back track all the way back to the Albuquerque airport in heavy traffic, however having no other choice did so where we were met with total indifference-sorry about that....my concern was more about the lack of quality control, putting customers in a very hazardous position. By the time we were able to get back on the road our entire day was lost, we had to change our itinerary and we're unable to see some of the main sites we made this trip for. I will also be notifying Costco Travel services. The customer service is terrible and they really don't seem to care about inconvenience or safety. read more

This locations owner is a scammer. Use Enterprise in Santa Fe. We rented a car and returned it super clean inside. When we called the man said he was the owner and the car was filled with dogs hair. My experience with Avis was so positive. I stupidly left my suitcase in the trunk (at Santa Fe airport) and flew home (to California) without it. I communicated with Rachel the next day, by phone, and she was so helpful. She told me she would put it aside and make sure the Fed Ex delivery would pick it up and send to me. I was very stressed out that I wouldn't get it back, but they were so helpful and kind that as soon as I communicated with her I knew it would work out and indeed I got my suitcase back, totally intact and in good condition. I am writing this today out of frustration and anger as I DO NOT write reviews but I just need to warn others. Avis car rental on Cerillos Rd in Santa Fe NM is a thief, workers are liars and the customer service is minimal at best. I rented a car for a week. Was told $200 for the deposit, got there and was told $250. Ok, odd but ok. Upon returning the car, just washed inside and out, detailed, everything, the girl checked it in and told me my deposit would go on my car and didn't need to check the car. ( Busy) So I look at my account the next day and they charged me $700. When I finally got ahold of someone they said it was a smoking charge. WTF!!!! Not only do I not smoke but I suffer from asthma. I informed the guy this and he kept asking if I had someone in the car that smoked. I said no, I did see the big red sticker on the window that says $450 charge if smoked in. Heck no I'm not letting anyone near this car. After arguing for a few, he finally offered 50 percent refund. I said NO!!! It wasn't smoked in, return my money. Finally after talking to supervisor they said ok they would return my money. I also told them that if I get any NSF charges, it's on them!!! Well, they have only returned $500 of it and I now have $150 in NSF Fees plus I paid them $190 for the car and $250 deposit. They returned only $500. I've emailed, gotten some lame return email saying they will add it to my case. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION OR COMPANY. I WILL BE CONTACTING A LAWYER. ANYONE ELSE HAVE A PROBLEM, PLEASE POST. Visiting Santa Fe, our car overheated and had to go to the shop. We didn't want to miss vacation so we went online and reserved a car. Upon arrival it was typical bait and switch. We don't have that car only an SUV for $80 more a day. Their excuses made no sense....we can't guarantee a car same day (then why did it say sold out for a different model but said this model was available), the online agreement says that (it doesn't), we can try and get a car from ABQ if you want to wait but it will be 2 days. BE WARNED! If you rent from Avis at the Santa Fe Airport, you very well may get charged for damage you did not incur, and when you challenge it both on a national and a local level, you'll be met with absolute disrespect and disinterest. We have been using Avis happily for decades, but now we would rather pay a few bucks more for another rental company and steer clear of this kind of corruption and attempted theft. Last year (2016), we rented a large SUV to drive back and forth to St. Louis to visit for Thanksgiving. We returned the vehicle and it had incurred no damage during our rental. We got a notice shortly thereafter that we were being billed for a broken windshield, $200. Total scam. We have been going back and forth with corporate for a year, and they are insisting that the damage happened while we were using the car. Today I called the local branch and spoke to someone named John. I explained the situation and he said I should call the national #. I told him I had already done that and while we were dealing with the back and forth ridiculousness, I wanted to let him know what happened at his branch. He could not have acted more like a surly, complicit, rude human being. When he said he couldn't do anything about it, I said, "Don't you want to know what happened at your branch? Aren't you at least curious to find out who was working that day and checked in the car so that you could know that this kind of dishonesty is going on? Don't you care about your branch's reputation?" He refused to get it. He never said, "Wow, that sounds awful. Thank you for letting me know. That's not the kind of operation we want to run, etc." Finally he told me once again to call the national # (which I had done a long time ago, and he knew this) and I asked him what his name was. "John." "What's your last name?" "John's good enough." "So now you don't even want to tell me who you are?" "Oh, man, lady, I can't believe this..." So I said goodbye and hung up. read more

I must warn against renting here as I was also charged for damage I did not cause. I dropped my car off undamaged the morning of December 31. Seven weeks later I received a surprise email that my credit card would be charged for glass repair. Despite many attempts, I have not yet received any proof that the damage occurred or that I was responsible for it. All email replies to have been boilerplate and unhelpful. Surely if I was actually responsible for the damage I should have been notified the day (or even the week) I returned the car. A phone call and photograph at that time would have clarified the issue. Given the above and the similar experience in other reviews, I would advise against renting through this Avis branch. read more

Zero hassle. Extremely friendly staff. A great experience. It's always easier and probably more fun for the author to share bad reviews rather than good ones. However, the folks behind the counter were awesome to work with. I had messed up my arrival time and they held my car with no issue and were even concerned for my whereabouts. They were polite and helpful. In fact, their friendliness helped set the tone for a great business trip to the area. Who knew it started with a few friendly smiles and some good conversation at the rental car counter? But that's how it works. Treat people well and they return the favor. Rental car companies are a dime a dozen. It's the people that count. I didn't catch the names of who helped me this week but it didn't matter. I give the whole experience five stars and would recommend any traveler into SFA to use them. NEVER AGAIN Quoted rate of $157 for 4 days. We arrived at the airport and immanuel who i spoke to earlier, tells me he made a mistake and the rate would be $311. I tell him he should honor the rate i was quoted. He says there is nothing he can do. He calls his manager and does not admit to him that he made a mistake so I ask to speak to him. His name was John Ferguson who kept calling me "guy" and was so rude i was speechless. He tells me sorry he wont rent it out for that rate that he could get alot more. When I refused to pay more money, he tell me that I am trying to bully him! Absolutely clueless how to treat a customer. After AN HOUR wasting our time, he ended up going down to $225 and we accepted only because we needed a car and Hertz next door only had SUV's. Even considering the normal poor customer service of car rental companies, Avis at Santa Fe airport was particularly insulting. They could not have been any slower or less concerned about customers. I have been standing here for 40 minutes. The only attendant has processed 2 rentals. Now she has completely disappeared. There are 5 renters behind me. I've been going to New Mexico at least 4 times a year for the past 30 years, and own property out there. Was flying into ABQ well before the remote car rental facility was built. Tried every car rental agency, never an easy time. Now that you can fly directly into SAF i use Avis. Not just because they are basically my only choice there but because John and his wife ( Gale) i hope i got her name right! are always super helpful, go out of their way, on many occasions to accommodate. i always book directly over the phone and they are always super nice and helpful. i always ask for a specific type of vehicle that is not always available at that location and they work their magic to get it there. everytime!!!! again i can't praise those two enough, they are an Avis asset and because of them i use Avis now solely in every city. thanks again guys and be seeing you two in a few months! The last two times I have used this agency, it has not been a great experience. Last week I called them the day before to confirm my car rental and that it would be delivered BEFORE our arrival to Signature Aviation, which is right next door. Upon our arrival in Santa Fe, my car was no where to be found. I asked the Signature Aviation staff where was our car so he called them. He was told that I had to go next door to the agency booth at the Regional Terminal because my credit card was not authorized. Now the question is...why didn't they tell me that the day before?? I could have given an updated card on the phone. When I went next door to get the car, I asked why they didn't deliver the car like I asked, why they didn't tell me that they needed another card when I called, etc. The agent was dismissive and just kept saying "we needed a new card, we needed a new card, ad nauseum." But not a reason WHY they needed a new card. Just not feeling like they care very much. We will try someone else next time. read more

I decided to rent a car to take my children to a ball game in Albuquerque. I only needed the car for 24 hours. I went online to get a better deal than what was offered to me over the phone. I booked a reservation through Avis. When I arrived at the Santa Fe airport to pick up The car that I had reserved the man at the desk question me about using a debit card. He asked if I had a credit card and notified me that there would be a mini credit review conducted. When the Chargers were accepted he seem to be shocked. At that moment I felt belittled and thought that because I am a local Hispanic I was being profiled by this man who is use to dealing with the well to do. When I returned the car the following day there were a few pet hairs that were left behind from my passengers clothes. He seemed frustrated by this and charged me $50 to vacuum out the car. I went online to save some money but ended up paying more than what was quoted to me on the phone. This man was rude and disrespectful and made that experience very uncomfortable.
