I booked a car and when I got there they didn't have the car I booked. They acted like they were doing me a favor by telling me they could place me in something else for $15 a day more. When I said that they ought to give me the car for what i originally committed to the woman told me age didn't feel like messing with me today. I should have read these reviews before renting. Awful experience. Rented a truck and when I arrived they had NO TRUCKS. At all. And couldn't tell me when they would have some. They offered me a cargo van instead, which I took. (It was literally the only non-car vehicle they had!) I asked for an adjustment to the cost of the rental, since the cargo van would obviously cost less than a truck. They refused to adjust the price. The staff was hostile/indifferent to my problem. The guy at the desk was a GRUMP and provided only short answers without clarity to any of my questions. We reserved a car through Budget and were told that the car would be ready at 9:30am. When I arrived to pick up the car the staff member told me to come back at noon. When I arrived at noon, there was another customer waiting at the closed Budget counter who told me that the staff member was out at the cars and would not be back until the next flight arrived in 40 minutes. After waiting half an hour, my husband called the main office and they said she would be at the counter in 5 minutes. Fifteen plus minutes later, the same woman who told me to come back at noon finally opened up the counter at a little before 1pm. There was a handwritten sign that cars are not being washed due to Santa Fe's water restrictions. I asked about that as there are no water restrictions in the winter. Waited on a line for over an hour to get a car. Not enough people working there for the volume. Was supposed to get a RAV-4 or similar and ended up with a huge Jeep Grand Cherokee. The gas option was added without my knowledge or agreement and getting it removed was near impossible. Stopped in a Budget location in Santa Fe and encountered the nastiest, most unfriendly person I have ever encountered. Said she couldn't fix the gas option problem as she was a franchise. When I returned the car with the gas tank full (which the attendant noted) , I couldn't get the gas charge removed since there were 200 people waiting on line and I would have missed my flight. Fixing it online has not worked yet - they didn't believe that the tank was returned full and made me attach a gas receipt which took 3 days to send as the Budget system didn't work properly. Worse experience ever! Van had some sort "smart key" safety device which would not allow the vehicle to go past 75 mph on the freeway!! We almost got pushed off the road by a 18-wheeler, due to the vehicle being locked at 75 mph. The front passenger tire kept going low, so we had to stop and put air to avoid a blowout. We went through a rainstorm, and we had no wipers!! Vans radio did not work. Van was very dirty, and we had to wash the windows to be able to see out of the front and back. Apparently summer @ Santa Fe is a v popular time for SUV rentals so I was relieved to rent a Ford Exploter yesterday. It got better from there. Returned a vehicle after hours on a Saturday. Videotaped the car inside out, the rental agreement with a time stamp and mileage, and me dropping off the key and the doc in their drop box. Sunday, as I haven't received the closed rental agreement, I went there. A guy cleaning the cars (the only soul in sight, told me that they didn't get to it, but I will receive the receipt by email on Monday morning. Nothing on Mondday morning...surprise surprise...si I went there again at great cost to my very busy schedule. This time someone else, rished and rude and miserable, said "no big deal" you will get it". I insisted that they close the contract, and he called "the boss" who didn't want to talk to me. But I heard him saying "tell him there is an issue with the car and send him off". Tried to call the contract with Budget. After 2 calls, they close th econtract with an extra $94 added by the Santa Fe crooks!!!! Now I need to fight that one. It's a dump, manned by dubious individuals. I had a text from Budget Road Side Assistance authorizing the exchange and stating that the location confirmed a vehicle was available. I returned the car with a full tank - and they charged me almost $23 for "fuel Service." I spent 20 min on the phone with someone, and I still have to call back if the refund "doesn't show up on my card," because I returned the car yesterday and the reservation hasn't closed or something like that. On top of that, they gave me an SUV that did not have windshield wiper fluid. When I used the wipers to clean off the front window, all that did was make a mess because there wasn't any fluid. I rented a Kia Soul for its Cargo volume: 24.2 ft³, 62.1 ft³. The budget employee was extremely rude and said I had to pay an additional $350, handed me the key to a Chevrolet Malibu, and tried to tell me it was an upgrade with more cargo space. Chevy Malibu Cargo volume is 15.7 ft³. At the same time, a woman was online with Budget to report the same experience I had. I requested a refund, and the budget employee told me the transaction would be voided but refused to provide any refund receipt or her name. I have not been refunded for the original $400 rental and additional $350. I had to cancel my trip, which meant extra lost money for the Airbnb I rented. Do not rent from Budget! read more

I had the most racist experience here !! Angelica (If that is her right name) literally ignored us and washed three cars and made us wait for 45 min. In the mean time calling budget customer support was even more frustrating they told us to work with whoever is at the front dest which is Angelica who was not even bothering to talk to us. We went there to add a driver on a car, she finally wrapped up her work when another white male customer showed up, coincidence?? ... I don't think so ..... Budget you can do better, at lease respond to customers complaints properly instead of trying to send them back to the same person to resolve their issue! When we got to the rental location we waited outside. Two customers were inside ahead of us. The first one came out and said "that woman is a [bad word]. The next person came out and also unsolicited said "this place is a nightmare". Then it was my turn. The person behind the counter was so rude. One word answers. She never looked up at us. We asked about dropping the car off at another location. She said the fee would be huge. We asked her to check what it was. She was unwilling to do so until we asked a few times. The fee was $50. I was adding my husband to the car. She asked if he was with me because she needed to see him and his drivers' license. I said I had his license the. I knocked on the window for him to come over so she could she him. The she yelled at me "I don't need to see him". She actually yelled at me. We didn't bite. Said as little as possible just to be done. When I returned a few days later to drop off the car the manager was there. I told him the woman who had helped me and others a few say before had been pretty rude. He told me that she was just being firm. Then I understood why the employee acted the way she did. He clearly didn't care about the customer experience. Both were pretty darn nasty. Not lots of rental car choices in Santa Fe. Maybe they feel like just plain common courtesy is a behaviour they don't have to indulge in because of that. read more

We rented a one way car back to the Albuquerque Airport from this location because Groom transport was full. We rented an intermediate SUV. We attempted to confirm multiple times but this location does not pick up their phones. So we did the automated confirmation. When we arrived we were offered a convertible Mustang but since we were driving to the airport with luggage and 3 people that was not going to work. So they gave us a Ford Explorer. When I went out to the car I noticed that the windshield had a crack in it and asked for the damage to be marked on a form to give to the airport location at check in. I was told there wasn't an issue - it was logged into the system. I asked for a print out of that log and was told they couldn't do that - just to take a time stamp photo. After checking out the car I also noted the car had an expired plate on it - expired by about 8 months (and out of state as well). There were no options so we took the car and hoped for the best. Upon airport return the guy checking us in was new and filed a damage report even though we told him ahead of time that the damage was logged in and we had photos with the date stamp. He ignored it all and took my insurance info. So we spent the next two hours with managers and the upshot was it apparently could not be seen by the airport location and we would have to wait for a damage report and dispute it. We wasted a whole lot of time at the airport arguing and got no place. So never trust this rental car location - especially with a damaged car. You may take it thinking it is logged in and later get charged. Also, no on there ever answers the phone. Too bad I had to do this review as the woman we spoke to seemed relatively professional. read more

We had prepaid for a car through the Budget website (not travelocity or an actual third party vendor) and still got the "third party vendor" treatment. I was extremely upset by the treatment I received from this location. I originally booked a reservation with them through american express travel for $297. I changed the dates with budget and asked if there would be a price change, they looked up my reservation from amex and said there would be no price change for the date change. When I arrived to pick up the car for a family vacation, I was told that the reservation would be over $750 dollars. I showed them the original agreement with amex, and they said that they could do nothing about it and that I would have to pay the higher rate. I told them I was informed by the location there would be no price change. They advised me to challenge the price at drop off, and show them the original reservation. I did this and they still demanded the higher fee. I was lied to twice by a representative, once when I was told that there would be no difference in price, and once when I was told it could be changed at drop off. I called budget and informed them of this, they even confirmed that there was no difference in price for the dates I had selected, but refused to honor the original price from amex travel. There are many other rental companies available in my area, so it is easy to never use budget again. And my family of course will no longer use your company. My family travels by car often, and without some recompense, we will never travel with budget again. read more

First of all, There was a man waiting in the little hole in the wall location who had a dog who while we were there peed on the floor twice! 2nd we were supposed to pick up the car at the airport not at this location and had to uber to the location. 3rd the attendant behind the counter didn't know what she was doing and while she 30 min later couldn't fix what ever problem on the computer she was having, meanwhile the place is getting full of other people trying to pick up their cars and the only other person working there was too busy washing cars to come in and help behind the counter. We asked to speak to a manager and she said they will just tell her to deal with it. I said that's not helpful and she commented yeah a lot of people say I don't help them. Finally the lady washing cars came in and finally fixed the issue on the computer that Miss. Incompetent couldn't. We were there almost 21/2 hours! The "local operator" is rude and unprofessional. I rented a vehicle for one day, a fuel efficient economy car. The vehicle was not available so I was "upgraded for free" to a sports car. This defeated the whole purpose for a rental of an economy car. Upon return, the car was not checked in and I did not receive a confirmation. I contacted the local office twice during the day to make sure it was checked in and I wouldn't be charged for an additional day. I was told not to call back and the car would be taken care of timely. Three months later, I receive a phone call that there is a claim for over $1500 damage to the vehicle. I can assure you there was no damage on my part. The corporate customer service refers me back to the local office, the local office refers me to the third party claims administrator and it's a wild goose chase. On the phone with the claims administrator in the local office, specific documents were requested. The "local operator" did not have these records available. Records retention requirement/policy per Budget is 6 months. This local office is sketchy, unprofessional, and fails to take responsibility. I do not recommend this location. read more

They didn't have one ready especially when I have a group of people who assist with the moving. The owner needs to take some serious courses on customer service. WORST PLACE EVER!!!!! If I was able to give a ZERO I would have. First, our family was planning on taking a trip so we reserved a rental online due to my boyfriend working at UPS and receiving a discount we decided to go with Avis because it was the least expensive. I got dropped off at this location and was asked by one of the workers to step outside to discuss a he said/she said drama for your mama occurrence that happened over a year ago which was unprofessional and unnecessary. We were helped(if that is what you call help) by Steven. We were informed only once Steven saw that we were using a debit card that there would be a $200.00 hold on our card because it was a debit. Steven failed to inform or ask us "first time renters" about our own insurance and instead encouraged us to purchase the full coverage for $30.00 a day, which we did and ended up with a grand total of $400 and some change. We were later informed by a family member that our insurance would cover. So upon leaving the following morning on our trip we called the billing office to request a refund and were informed that we could stop at any Avis on our way and re do our contract without insurance. We stopped in Flagstaff, AZ where we were asked to call the Santa Fe location. AGAIN, we dealt with Steven who flat out said "NO" he would not refund our money for insurance, upon hanging up my boyfriend informed him that we would not EVER return to this location and all Steven said was "I'm sorry you feel that way". We were lucky enough to work with a great manager in Flagstaff that went above and beyond to get our refund and renew our contract. So, bottom line.... a good deal is not always the best deal. Do not go to this place under any circumstances. I was going to rent a van from here for a vacation my friends and I were taking. First, they told me they were going to charge me a larger deposit because of the distance we were driving. However, this was not told to us as we were reserving the truck. Then, they told me that, because my friend once owed them money which he had since paid back, I couldn't rent the truck with my own card because I tried adding him as a driver. After waiting for a half hour, freaking out about what this could mean for my trip, the boss finally got back to her employees and let them know that I could rent the truck. They then insulted me by saying they would "watch" this rental. I gave them my card to run, which was denied by my bank because they billed me above my withdrawal limit for the day and my fraud protections kicked in. No problem, right? I called my bank and had them increase the limit. However, their boss refused to rent me the truck at least for another day because my card was denied. What's more, the deals they were going to cut me were not going to be honored. I burned nearly two hours at this store only to have them tell me to pound sand. I've never felt more frustrated and insulted by another business. You should never, ever, ever give these jerks your money. read more

We had an absolutely terrible experience with the Budget in Albuquerque, however Dominic from the Santa Fe location made up for all of the problems that we had 100%. We had an issue with the vehicle that we were given and he swapped it out with no questions asked. The whole experience was quick, convenient, and overall a great customer experience, which I can't say the same for the Albuquerque location.
