I was then told, for the first time, that Hertz does not accept same-day debit card transactions. I was denied a vehicle. Both employees then left the building. When I asked for help on next steps, the manager -- already in his car -- told me out his window to call Priceline. Priceline told me to speak to Hertz. I stood alone outside a closed Hertz location with $790 gone from my account and no car. This rental was arranged for two combat veterans -- myself and a fellow veteran traveling with a broken leg in a halo brace -- to receive proper medical care. Because of Hertz Smithtown's failure to disclose their payment policy at any point during booking, we now face 36+ hours without housing and nearly $800 drained from my account with no resolution offered. By 2pm Saturday, after multiple follow-up calls, every representative online continued to insist that no money had been taken from my account -- while I was staring at the $790 withdrawal in real time. Each one told me to dispute it with my bank. Not one person from Hertz or Priceline provided a corrective answer, a solution, or any form of assistance. Do not book here. When originally renting the car when buying our airline tickets the price was $260.58, the final price was $510.58. Our plane arrived 2 1/2 hours late at the Charleston airport and we were rushing so it is my fault that I did not read the contract thoroughly but the counter person absolutely made the insurance sound like it was a one time $35.00 charge. The other problem was that the car reeked of marijuana. We realized this before we left the airport and immediately called Avis to let them know but because we were running late we did not have time to exchange and were stuck smelling like potheads for the next four days.

Even if you have to wait until they can get you in, (it could be 2 weeks lead time or more) if you care about your car and want the best possible repair, it's worth it to wait for Dowling to do the work. Every car has come back looking factory, like it never happened. Couple of things I will include in addition to the quality of the work. For one, Willy and Dowling is an expert not just in repairing cars, but in dealing with insurance companies. Companies will usually low ball the estimate, leave out a bunch of parts (or specify used parts !) and send you a check for thier own amount. They are hoping you DONT repair your vehicle, and simply pocket the money. I'm sure people who really need the money more than they need the work done do exactly that, saving the insurance company half or more of the true cost of the repair. With 2 different cars, Willy and Dowling went back to the company and had them revise their estimate (which had to double) to include parts left out, or to include factory new body panels instead of used or aftermarket crap that came in damaged or didn't fit up to Dowlings standards. One more notable difference - Dowling cleans and details your car inside and out before returning it to you. It's just a nice professional touch, the last step in doing the job right. For top quality body work and service, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Even if I have to wait to get in.
