I disagreed on getting their insurance policy on the rental and they got so upset and threatened to kick me out of their office. I booked through Priceline and because it was a low rate they were trying to push their insurance on me. Even the associate told me that this is a very low rate and it usually costs more than $300 for the day rental. So to make up for the low rate they tried to push their insurance on me. I filed a complaint with the corporate office and have everything on recording. Extremely unprofessional stay away from this garbage place. The manager is an absolute incompetent moron who has no idea of customer service and how to handle the clients. Just drive up north about 2 miles. I told him I needed a one way rental to Miramar san Diego with a drop off at 6 pm the next day. he offered me an electrical vehicle , sta ding ding there looking at the mileage to office home back to office and then Miramar I told him if I don't arrive in Miramar by 6 pm then don't take the car when they close , there is no key drop off after 6 pm . again 6 pm drop off time mentioned . he then gave me a hybrid , I said and how much is this car to get me to Miramar tomorrow? Rented a car via Priceline for 119/day. Got final bill of 431 and when I called to complain at Budget/Avis, the guy hung up on me after stating he was going to inflate to 800. He charged my credit card 798 and my Citibank card refuses to see my point of view after I submitted at least 12 copies of bills and proof. I will never ever use Avis or Budget Rental Car again, so so so unprofessional. I will say that the only person there locally, Daisy, was perfect help in my customer support but dealing with corporate CitiBank and Avis/Budget was a nightmare. read more

Terrible experience. Reserved a car online for a pickup at noon on Labor Day. Because it was Labor Day they closed at noon but it wasn't posted on any sites at all and i wasn't notified by anyone even when I had a reservation. Worst part is I got there at 12:01PM. There were still two employees in the office but door was locked. One went to go get who I'm assuming was the supervisor or manager. She walks up to the door and says "sorry we are closed and can't give you a car." I explained that I have a reservation at noon and all she says is "you should have came at 11:59 am." Also quarantine any cars which may have come into contact with Coronavirus. I thought the car rental industry was doing everything it can to help customers during this pandemic. Cleaning supplies should be ready and available at any location. A customer should not have to remind them. On November 10th,, the car I picked up at Avis (27315 Jefferson Ave, Temecula, CA} was extremely filthy with stains and where someone (got sick) on the door panels. The car also had Covid papers in between the passenger front seat and console. After letting her know of our concerns She responded "I can give you a can of air freshener. Also was told there was nothing she could do to help us because this was a pick-up location only. We were responsible for driving the rental to ONTARIO if we were not satisfied and if we wanted another car. I needed to be in SF at a certain time. I was getting misinformation from every Avis customer service 800 numbers I was told to call about trying to rectify this situation. I was told this location was a corporate location, because it was listed as a corp on website. But Avis agents said it was not. Maybe they feel like they don't have to follow CDC guidelines or Avis guidance for safety. I could not believe this was happening during this Covid-19 pandemic. Avis is dishonest and are in the practice of telling customers straight up lies to just get you in the door. When you have a complaint, they really want you to move on. It is not their problem. Now you are in a hard rock situation and at their mercy. You cannot get a refund immediately and go to another company or find another way to get you to your destination. This is a Crime and shame on Avis for putting people at risk of contracting this Virus. I took pics of everything to prove my complaint against Avis. If negative stars were an option, they would have received that rating instead. So, I rented from Budget at a prepaid discount. Economy sized and wasn't expecting much. Which is exactly the small car that I got: Hyundai 2-door hatchback. Turned out to be a 3-door. Very weird interior. Anyways, it's like most other rentals. The reason for the lower rating is that they never told me that pets aren't allowed. I mean, what pet owner rents a car and doesn't take their pet with them? And to be honest, the fur that was left on the backseat was the same amount that would transfer off of just our clothing. Some dogs' fur just clings on more than others! Beware of the $250 charge if you let your dog in the car and they shed an apparently noticeable amount. Ended up getting a lint roller to clean it up. Oh, and Avis hates when you rent from Budget. System access for them can be difficult from what is looked like. read more

We have been renting from Avis for 1 1/2 years now on a Weekly basis. We are no longer renting from them , because we are renting elsewhere now. The past 2 months in order to rent a car we had to pay the rental rate and another $300 dollars on top of that for a deposit just to rent a car. Which we would end up having to pay over $500 each week just to rent a car, even if we extended the rental instead of doing a new rental each week. I called other locations for Avis and they said that they should only be charging the cost of the rental OR the Deposit not both. I expressed my concern about having to put out so much money at once, especially when we had been a Customer for so long. They ended up burying us in debt, due to having to put out so much money at one time. I'm very disappointed. read more

Asked her name she said Leslie Johnson and showed him Her phone with the rental confirmation. Needless to say we paid 171 online, the guy behind the counter ask her for her bank card she gave it to him she ask is this for the deposit he said ues and he charged us for someone else rental of 359.00. They canceled both transaction but my bank says it will still take 3 to 5 business days after Monday and I need to pay my bills. The lady that works here is unbelievably unhelpful.z when we came in to pickup our car she almost let us walk out without getting insurance on the car. When we asked about it she said "oh I didn't think you wanted it" what kind of place doesn't want to insure their rentals. Avis on Madison in Murrieta. We reserved a car weeks in advance and confirmed a couple of days in advance, but when we got there the only car they had was a crappy Honda Civic that was dirty and had just had a new windshield glued on - the blue masking tape was still holding it in place! They helpfully advised us not to wash it for a day or two to be sure the glue held!! We had no choice - and took it. We returned it a day early - but they refused to pro-rate the price. Worst. But based on their location customer service should be amazing to keep the business going but it was far from amazing. We were given the keys and that was it, the car was not vacuumed there were pistachio shells all over. We returned our rental car today which we rented from this location. We had a horrible experience. We rented the car for a 1 week to drive it to a family vacation home about 800 miles away. As a courtesy, we drove the car through the car wash because we had gone through rain, freeway construction and the car's exterior was dirty. When we picked up the car at the Avis location Jefferson Ave in Temecula, it was Friday and about an hour before closing. Only one guy was working the counter (Frank) and there was a line out the door. Frank appeared older and less computer savvy. In between helping us, he answered the phone, and took returning cars--without inspecting them, telling customers he would "email the receipt". We booked on Priceline. Frank seemed totally confused by our booking online. We handed him our confirmation but he said he didn't need it. He pecked out on the keyboard at a snail's pace, finally printing the rental agreement and a "pre-rental inspection" which he asked us to sign prior to taking possession of the car. When we questioned why we should acknowledge no prior damage to the car BEFORE we inspected, Frank indicated it would be "ok". We waited outside the rental office until finally Frank pulled up & exited the rental car, on his cell., involved in an apparent heavy discussion We examined the exterior of the car & tried to point out dings & a long scratch on the side of the relatively new SUV, Frank merely gave us a "thumbs up" saying any dings would not be a problem for us. Frank was preoccupied making dinner arrangements on his cell that he inadvertently handed us some car keys to some other car. We tried to wave to Frank to let him know our rental car keys were already in the ignition of the car, but he just gave us the "thumbs up" again & walked back inside the office leaving the rental car running and double parked. NOTE: this location is in a busy retail mall, very congested and limited parking. Inconvenient!! We had to move the car, find a space to park and return the keys Frank mistakenly handed to us while making his dinner plans for the night. Of course Frank thanked us profusely--NOT. When we returned to our home--10 miles away-we discovered: #1 the head rest to the driver's seat was gone and #2 the backseat belt did not work!! The car's interior was filthy. Old MacDonald's french fries under the back seat, tooth picks in the center consult. Additionally, this car came equipped with navigation and Pandora. Neither worked. We took the car anyway because we needed an SUV and we wanted to get on the road toward our vacation. Returning the car: This location is closed on Sunday. It is only open on Saturday from 9-2pm. We returned the car on Saturday with a full tank of gas and much cleaner than it was when we received it. We arrived at the Avis office; and once more, only 1 person working the counter. An over weight woman with a scowl on her face appearing angry either because she was working Saturday morning or she finally had the realization she should have made better career choices. The scowl on the agent's face turned to rudeness to the customers head of us. They were returning the car a day early and asked for a credit to which she barked out "IT IS THE SAME PRICE REGARDLESS OF EARLY RETURN"!!! They debated whether to keep the car another day since they were being charged anyway but then Ms. Nasty pants rental agent told them she already processed the return and would have to start over with a new contract. The couple decided to forget about keeping the car. Next up was us. The agent asked for the paperwork on the rental, which didn't have with us because in the past we've been told by the agent it was not necessary, but of course NOT this time! Obviously pissed off, the agent begrudgingly takes the info from the car key and magically, my contract appears on her monitor. The agent went outside to check the mileage on the car, when she returned she asked if we wanted to "go across the street to have the car vacuumed". When we ask "why would we would need to vacuum the car?" She replied their detail person is "extremely allergic to dog hair" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We are certain other renters return cars in much worse condition and don't bother to take the trash out or have the car washed as we did. Our 9 lbs short haired Chiweenie dog was in his bed on a heavy sheep skin blanket that we tucked into the back seat to avoid damaging the seats. Obviously we are more considerate than your average renter!! This agent FLAT OUT would not accept our car until WE vacuumed the inside of the car!!! Tired after a 9 hour ride home, we crossed this major busy highway, made a U-turn risking our lives, PAID to have the car wash vacuum the car. The manager at the car wash told us "Avis brings their cars here" so much for the made up story about the allergic Avis car wash boy!! AVIS: We TRY Harder to be RUDE TO YOU! It's the long weekend and we booked our reservations a few weeks ago. Went in to pick up this morning and the rep said there are no cars available. She said she called me which is fine she probably did her job but I wasn't going to begin to explain to her that my phone broke and I was waiting on my replacement phone to come in all day yesterday. I manage medical clinics and following up is KEY. You leave a message and if no return call, you try again. I also think that this day in age where electronics is everything following up with an email helps a lot. I will never book from here again. It was a waste of my time. I went back in and spoke with Stephanie and she could have was not concerned the least bit. First and last time I rent here. Location is a mess. Employees look so unprofessional. They dress as if they're lounging at home, sweat pants and sweat shirts. I can smell her moldy dirty shirt from across the counter. They got my car and when she walked out her scent was in the car. Smelled like must and pee. The car was not very clean either. Brought the car back 40 min late and was charged 1 hr at $23. I will stick to Enterprise. You get a free hour grace period. Avis Although I have always have had high regards for Avis overall, this location T1C in Temecula every since the Manager Michelle left has been difficult for rides. I live less than 1 mile from the location. Over the last 4 years every time I call to request a ride when either dropping off or picking up a car I usually get a Daisy who's first words are "you live too far Away" or I am the only one here....Not True!...I've called back and spoke with someone else and they will work out something for picking me up or dropping me off or I will argue with Daisy, she usually uses a bit of profanity and relents. On January 26, 2014 after returning from a 30 hour flight from Asia, I contacted the office at 951.296.2200 and spoke with a Cory. I requested a ride and said my schedule was flexible for the return. He said "Ahhh...I'm sorry no one else is here today" I walked in and guess what? Daisy was sitting there. When I asked about Cory she said "he was out running around and getting cars washed"! and she said we only give rides Monday thru Saturday". Again Not true. I've in the past complained to managers and tried to contact the owner of the Franchise, someone by the name of Larry. He will not respond. I've had it, if a location does not offer rides Say So! I've been trying to rent a Chevy Volt. Avis has a dedicated web landing page as they are promoting the Chevy Volt as a rental. But, when you go to reservations, it only gives you classes of cars. I did an online chat with Avis, and that person was clueless and didn't answer any of my questions directly and responded with obvious pre-written responses. I called Avis corporate to try and find how to reserve a Chevy Volt specifically, and that I had a flexible schedule as the reason for renting is that I'm thinking of leasing one, and would like to rent one for a week. Corporate couldn't tell me what location would guranatee it, and the representative had no clue that they are currently marketing the rental of a Volt with a dedicated web page on it. I offered to email him the link, and he didn't want it. I called Murrieta location, and they have a habit of not answering their phones during normal business hours, mostly because that location is understaffed by underpaid under-trained personnel who tell me they can't guarantee the car, and when I ask if they can find another location, and have the car brought to this location, because I'm flexible on my time line, they tell me they don't do that....even though they actually do. I guess they are not allowed to say "I don't have time to call around because Avis understaffs this position and I have a line of 10 people waiting to yell at me and call me names." So it is obvious that Avis is just merely running a bait and switch scheme on the Chevy Volt. What else could it be when they have a web page dedicated to the Chevy Volt and then they won't guarantee the rental, let alone even tell you what locations have it? I guess that works on average rentals, where people hope they can get a Chevy Volt, but in reality, they just need a rental car - and don't realize the Chevy Volt promotion is simply a bait and switch. read more

I had said I was returning my car on Thursday at 2 pm the lady who checked me out said no problem. When I returned the car I noticed I got charged for an extra day because if I wanted the price I was being quoted for it needed to be back by 8:30 am. This is a car dependent city! If you use this business, make a plan for how you will get the car. I booked online through Expedia but the Temecula location was rude when I called to ask questions. They have limited inventory so book in advance. Inspect your own vehicle and take pictures before you leave. They do not inspect the car with you. The woman at the desk basically sent a guy to get the car I had requested, when he pulled up to the curb, I walked outside and he passed me the keys and said here you go. I said we asked for a luxury car and she said over and over again the same thing "That's all we have", she wouldn't check on the computer or look out back just "That's all we have". So ok we get a car which is a VW Jetta. A car with less room then the car we own! I ask where we can park our car, thinking they had a secured lot, she waved her arm and said anywhere out there. I said you mean you don't have assigned parking for Avis? Again over and over again she says "You can park anywhere out there". So we just parked out there and hoped that the car would be ok in a public lot with other businesses there! We head out of the lot and the car is hesitating when trying to enter the freeway and continues to do so the whole way, the CD player didn't work nor did the blue tooth. There was no way we wanted to deal with Daisy again so we carried on getting in a worse mood on our mini vacation in a piece of !!!! car. Keep in mind when we got the car she didn't show us how anything worked nor was there a inspection sheet filled out at all. We took pictures of the car to prove we didn't put any of the dents in it. We finally get the car back to Avis and a mans toiletry bag was left in the back seat on the floor so I called right when I realized it. That was about 40 minutes after we dropped the car off, when I call I get lovely Daisy again and tell her that we just dropped the car off could she go look and see if the bag is in the back seat please and she says the car has left the lot already. OK.....I ask well then did you find it when you were cleaning the car out? She said "we don't clean the cars out if they look clean". I was shocked and I said "You mean to say that you don't clean the cars at all or even look in them?" She said ONCE AGAIN OVER AND OVER AGAIN "not if they look clean". She said she would call me back but I didn't ever get a call and didn't figure I would because that would have required her to actually put effort out. We were promised a credit of $10. because of the way we were treated and that those are not the policies of Avis after we called the corporate office but we have yet to receive the credit. SO if you have bothered to read this far please do yourself a favor and walk away from AVIS all together, that is what I would suggest anyway. You will enjoy whatever you are renting a car a lot more then if you try and just stick with this place and bite the bullet.
