The vehicle was returned exactly as instructed. The keys were handed directly to an employee behind the counter, and we confirmed that the fuel tank had been filled prior to drop-off. The following morning, we received an unexpected call from a Miami location inquiring about the vehicle's whereabouts, as it had not been checked back into the system by the Vero Beach branch. This oversight caused immediate concern, as we had properly returned the vehicle. Upon contacting the South Vero Beach location, the manager on duty acknowledged the error and confirmed that the vehicle was physically present on their lot. We were assured that the issue would be corrected promptly. However, despite this assurance, we were subsequently charged for two days instead of the one-day rental period. This duplicate billing is both inaccurate and unacceptable. This situation reflects a serious lapse in standard operating procedures. Properly checking in returned vehicles is a fundamental responsibility, and the failure to do so resulted in unnecessary stress, wasted time, and incorrect charges. The police was holding traffic because of some emergency at the Vero Airport, which made me arrive 5 minutes late for pick up (aren't they supposed to wait 15?) and the guy AT The COUNTER just told me that I was late and they were closed, while he was STILL there, even after explaining what held me up for 10 minutes, which made me 5 minutes late! I called the 800 number the night before and an agent confirmed the reservation. When I called the Rte 1 location the next morning, about an hour before the reserved time, to re-confirm , I was informed that my reservation would not be honored. When I asked why the local agent replied, "We can book 150% of capacity. We have no cars." When I asked why no one texted or called to inform me that I would not have a car, the answer was "We're very busy." I was told that the office would call the "instant a car comes available." Now ten days later, no one has called. I had to pay over $50 for an Uber due to the lack of a car. I emailed the branch manager who never replied despite a confirmation I received that the email had been delivered. Three days later, I emailed the regional manager. Again, no reply to date. I have usually had excellent experiences with Enterprise and did subsequently with the helpful branch manager at 20th St. in Vero Beach. But in this case, it appears that no one really cares enough to follow up to my emails, so I am posting this message.

Imagine my surprise when I was contacted a few days later by an outside agent of Avis attempting to make a claim against me for vehicle damage. According to the agent, the damage was substantial. After several hours of back and forth - along with my forwarding photos of the vehicle upon delivery and rental agreement - the agent closed the claim in my favor. In conversation, the agent applauded my taking the photos and updating the agreement. She also stated that this was not the first time a claim for damage was made on the same vehicle. Apparently, a prior renter damaged the car and already settled the matter with Avis. Beware of renting from Avis Car Rental at the Vero Beach Regional Airport.
