I was 1st to review these fine folks' way back in 2018. I've visited here dozens of times and had lunch today. I'm a little worried! It's a big casual place and spotless as always. Floor, tables, chairs, everything immaculate. It was busy but my greeter had a big friendly smile and immediately showed me to my table. As usual my waitress was efficient and awesome. In this joint you pay a cashier when you leave and mine cashed me out quickly and with a smile. Sooooo, customer service was great all around. They have a massive diner menu but also a single sheet of daily specials and Baked Meatloaf was on that sheet for $13.75. It came with two sides, and I went with mashed potatoes and fried okra, and it was out quickly. So why am I worried. Take a look at my picture. It looked, well, processed. Like it came out of some machine. It certainly didn't look homemade. For those who know their way around food a bit, it looked like in might have come from a Sysco, vacuum-packed plastic sleeve. The meatloaf slices were just too perfect! The mashed potatoes consistency also looked processed. If it was on a cheap tray instead of a nice plate, some kind of institution maybe. Unfortunately, it had that processed taste. It was hot but it had that processed blandness that was not a good thing. Like something a patient might get in a low-end nursing home! It was edible but not enjoyable! This has always been a four- or five-star place for me but this time I'm dropping down to three stars and that's being generous. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who asked our preferred seating. We were seated in Jewel's section. She also greeted us with a warm welcome and gave us a list of the specials and asked our beverage choices. The coffee was hot and smooth and bottomless. Our breakfast order was placed. Jewel made sure our coffee cups were full. Steak tips & eggs and the fajita omelette were fresh and tasty. Only criticism is the hash browns were a little bit oily for our taste. This is a locally owned diner with the feel of an IHOP or Denny's. Same type menu and atmosphere. The cheese omelette was just average. My dogs ate half of it. I asked for "well done" home fries but didn't get them two days in a row. Because of the hurricane, they were the only choice. Take out orders were popular. Ask for salt and pepper. Ask for napkins. I always get the BLT no matter the time of day. I call them the best BLTS in town. We also get the waffles with strawberries. Which he enjoys alot . They waitresses are on point and very friendly always a come back check at the table to see how everything is. This food is usually good. I went there on 10/30/24 and ordered a western omlet. It was dried up, no cheese and little in it. It was horrible. I asked for the manager. The food was excellent! The service was excellent. The owners have really cleaned the place up and you can tell they take pride in their business. The menu is large and varied. They have lots of things on the menu that you don't tend to see on other diner menus, like stuffed French toast and Greek skillets. We will definitely return! In the mood for biscuits and gravy in Avon Park so made a point to stop in. The gravy was creamy and smooth. I was looking for a few more pieces of meat in it so eating became like a treasure hunt! The biscuits did not overpower the gravy. The scrambled eggs are fluffy not flat and not tasteless like other places. There is good wait support for keeping the place clean. I could have used a top-off on my coffee to keep up with washing down the biscuits but when I asked, I got it as soon as the server's hands were free! This is a perky place for breakfast. read more
