    4 & 6 tops and booths!

In my never-ending quest to visit awesome privately-owned breakfast spots, I drove on down to teeny, tiny Lake Placid. They are known as "The Town of Murals" and are world famous for them and perusing them makes a very nice day trip! Tens of thousands of folks do it every year. All those folks need to eat and bunches of them go here and rave about it! Hence my trip. Arriving- Your GPS won't work very hard as this place is easy peasy to find. BTW, they are usually open every day starting at 6:00 AM. Breakfast and lunch only. Street parking, the slanted drive-in style is the name of the game here. It's free. Pro-Tip- This is Snowbird country and many restaurants close for a week or two during the summer. My advice, call first before you visit. Ambience- Tiny one-room place with Florida kitsch and a mild baseball theme which extends to the menu. Typical booths and tables. They also have a counter that seats six with an open kitchen. I found everything spotless! Customer Service- I was tag teamed by two servers and they were both great so no complaints. Food- Standard American menu with the glaring omission of a list of omelets. What the hell! In keeping with the baseball theme, you can order a single, double, or triple meaning the number of eggs and pieces of meat. I ordered the Double with sausage and home fries, and it set me back $9 pre-tip. My coffee was great. My eggs and sausage were spot on, but read on to hear about the home fries. Over-the-top, spectacular home fries, easily on my Top 5 list of all time! The cook/chef uses his own custom seasoning and it's amazing. They were perfectly cooked, not greasy, and there wasn't a single burnt piece! I moaned with every bite! See my attached a close up pic. For me, these folks hit a grand slam 5-star home run!

Great location downtown Lake Placid. . Great food choices and great food presentation... Open kitchen, friendly staff and amazing management team. (Owner is soooo cool) You have to try this place... I totally recommend this spot for breakfast... limited seating though, but it's worth the wait

Add this to list of Lake Placid breakfast places! Food is tasty, home fries are crispy on the outside and well seasoned. We had The Home Run, the RBI, peanut butter cannoli, and the everything bagel. All good! See pics. Only thought the bagel was smaller than expected. Servers were attentive and polite. Inside is clean but a little warm, we were there around 10:30 am. We will be back!

If you're ever in Lake Placid and need a caffeine fix with a side of cozy charm, Owl and Otter…read moreEspresso Co. is where you need to perch. My mocha with oat milk was everything I want in a coffee--smooth, chocolatey, and just the right amount of sweet, like a warm hug from an otter who moonlights as a barista. The blueberry scone? A buttery, crumbly little cloud with juicy bursts of berry that made me seriously consider ordering a second... you know, for "research." The shop itself feels like it stepped right out of a Pinterest board--woodsy, warm, and welcoming, with just enough personality to make you want to sit and stay awhile. It's the kind of place where you can sip slowly, people-watch, and convince yourself you're the main character in a quaint small-town novel. Bonus points for friendly service that makes you feel like a regular, even if it's your first visit. Whether you're starting your morning or sneaking in an afternoon treat, this is one of those rare spots where the drinks, bites, and vibe all hit just right.

This was such a sweet discovery in the Journal Plaza on a recent visit to Lake Placid. There are…read moretwo businesses here, the coffee and tea shop, Owl and Otter Espresso Co., and a gift store with a vintage vibe, the Local Yocal. Both are owned by Luke Haney and his mother Renee. The Local Yocal offers a variety of products, including local and Florida-made items, Lake Placid souvenirs, local honey, toys, seasonings, caned fruit and vegetables, jams, dressings, magnets, mugs, bags, stickers, and T-shirts. It was fun to explore all of the unique items on the wooden shelves. Children will love filling a box for $5 with all kinds of old fashioned candy. There were smarties, tootsie rolls, lollipops, and taffy. They also had gag gifts like Florida Flamingo Poop which is milk chocolate covered raisins. They even had old fashion stick candy for only 75 cents each. I loved how they had something for every price range. You may stop in with the intention of looking for a gift but you will be hard pressed not to leave with something for yourself. Connected by an open door to the Local Yocal is the charming Owl and Otter Espresso Co. coffee shop. The inside is elegantly decorated with crystal chandeliers, plush jewel tone chairs, marble walls, and tin ceilings. A glass case displays freshly baked bread and sweets. They offer specialty teas and coffees including gluten-free and organic. They also prepare charcuterie boards for their friends business next door, the Wine Down Bar & Shop. I ordered one of their most requested beverages, an iced Chai Tea which was the perfect refreshment on a sweltering day. Both the Local Yocal and Owl and Otter Espresso Co. coffee shop are such a great addition to downtown Lake Placid and Journal Plaza. If you are in the area, be sure and stop by for caffeination and nostalgic novelties.

Ice cream is also served here and it's Blue Bell! As someone who lives in Texas where Blue Bell is a blue blood, my heart skipped a beat seeing they serve it here. The baristas behind the counter are energetic with engaging personalities. One of them mentioned she's a coin collector and talked about the history of the penny which is being discontinued. Then he hands me a bag of food and it's missing a whole sandwich, we ordered two and there was only one. So I reversed to the window and he apologized and said he would bring it out to us, fine. He brings it out and we unwrap our sandwiches only to reveal that both were made wrong, I don't even know what they gave us. So now we go inside, where there is a step down and some contraption with bards and a gate, ridiculous to have honestly. So we try to talk to the guy again and he is arguing with us about the sandwiches being wrong. Finally he conceded and said he would make new ones, my husband asked to speak to a manager and they DONT HAVE ANY. He thumbed to the guy behind him and said "this is the closest thing we have" what???? That is unheard of! We ask for a refund and guy said no because it's a mobile order, the "manager" said no problem we could get one and they'd make new sandwiches but we were so upset at this point, we were sure they would spit in it. As we were leaving without food and drink, I injure my arm on that dumb contraption they have around the door. I still don't understand why it's there! My arm was cut, and bruised, and three days later still hurts. We contracted corporate which was a big waste of time, they don't speak English and are outsourced. The lady had a cat meowing in the background as well as many voices, she couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear her. By the way it took 40 min on hold just to speak to her initially. Eventually she transferred us to some guy that said sorry and he would pass our info to the franchise owner. They have yet to contact us back, I have not received any refund or compensation.
