Chicken Aioli Sandwich - absolutely smothered in sauce and fries
    Kayla A.

One of the Go-to's for local Fall River Eats. It's Portuguese Feast food year round. Pro-tip add an egg to the Steak Aioli Sandwich. A+. You can also get a side of Quahog Stuffing sans shell - Which honestly is a better serving size and easier to eat that way. Not only is it a little shop on Pleasant St but they also have a food truck. I first experienced Avo's as a food truck at SOAM and then sought them out at future food truck events. I love a good food truck. In Fall River there's certainly no lack of Quality Portuguese - but with this quick serve modern style this is the perfect intro to the cuisine for anyone that didn't grow up on chourcio.

The people were helpful and food was delicious. Place was clean. Very casual dining experience.

    Tasty!

There aren't too many dinner options in the area. We enjoyed their French fries with garlic and peppers. The steak sandwiches were chewy, not something we will seek out again. Check their hours, they closed 90 minutes earlier than listed on Yelp the day we were there.

Chicken Mozimbique sandwich, fries, and favas

So I finally came to see what all rave and talk about Avo's was all about! So I was told that the food at this restaurant was "feast" inspired like the feasts during the summer! I understood the whole concept, but the food quality looks nothing like something you would get at the feast! So I got the Mozimbique sandwich, fries, and some favas... So the Mozimbique is soaking in this sauce that I myself couldn't distinguish if it was Mozimbique or not... It could've of used less beer and more sazon for more flavor!! Let's just say they were not afraid to use hot sauce! I live close by and by the time I got home my sandwich was no longer a sandwich but a sloppy and soggy mess! The best thing about my meal was my fries to be honest! The favas were just plain with no taste and again loaded with hot sauce! I'm sorry but if your trying to portray Portuguese food as a fast food, at least get the taste down packed! I think they need to revisit their recipes and tweak them a bit and make them more authentic! Being Portuguese and all I've had better Portuguese food then what I just had for dinner! I gave them 2 stars for the effort and that they had my favorite dessert, flan! But if the flan is floating on the same boat as the food, I'm not sure if I'd be coming back here... Reasonable pricing, but I would like to see the quality and taste of the food become more authentic to be worth it!

My favorite thing is the Camarao Mocambique . The sauce is phenomenal make sure to soak it up with bread provided. I got the Mariscada for entree and large portions. I took half home and had a wonderful lunch with it the next day. I also had the traditional flan for dessert that was good. On another visit I got the fresh goat cheese which is amazing. You cannot go wrong with a meal here. The setting is nice low light and good for conversations with friends and family.

What an incredibly uplifting dining experience in Rhode Island! The Portas Da Cidade restaurant…read morewas absolutely thriving on a Tuesday night, and yet they had plenty of space for more people. There were 3 tables celebrating birthdays. The wonderful atmosphere, good vibes, great delicious food, and awesome service all came together in perfect harmony. Your meal comes with a large house salad and bread which I greatly appreciated. We started off with the Mozambique Shrimp appetizer which is a savory, garlicky, and mildly spicy sauce. It is traditionally made by simmering butter, olive oil, copious amounts of garlic, onion, white wine, and Sazón seasoning often with saffron or annatto, finished with hot sauce or peri-peri sauce. ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING! For my meal, I ordered the Bitoque which is a classic, hearty Portuguese dish featuring a medium fried steak topped with a runny fried egg, served with chips, and vegetable rice, all tied together with a flavorful butter, wine, and garlic sauce. I was told it's a popular Portuguese comfort food. For dessert, I ordered my favorite Tiramisu! Light, spongy, not too sweet and the perfect combo of Expresso coffee-soaked lady fingers, creamy mascarpone, cocoa powder dusting, and whipped cream!
