Awakenings is located and a beautiful spot right on Hyde Park Square within view of the fountain. It is rather large for a coffee shop with seating for I would guess at least 50. I had their non-fat latte which was very good but I would not say excellent. The espresso struck me as slightly thin. May have been the milk espresso ratio it may have been the coffee itself. Effort of a variety of pastries, of course that I did not try. The Furnishings were well above average and very comfortable. I'd recommend it as a place to sit with friends and chat. read more

Love the location in Hyde Park square. I sit outside and watch the baby strollers and dog walkers which are plentiful. Coffee is great, as are smoothies. I wasn't as enthralled with the lemon cake (which I saw later was vegan). I will move around the menu to find something I like better. They sure all look good. There's always a line (which signifies they are popular) and the line moves fairly quickly. Unless you get behind someone who wants the entire menu explained to them like I did yesterday. Don't want coffee. They have a nice selection of wine which they will uncork for you. I plan to try that sometime...just not so early in the day! On Sundays there is a stellar farmers market here too. I'm already planning to hit that tomorrow. Life is good. read more

Pistachio white mocha latte - I don't know what school in the heavens taught the baristas, but they make it right EVERY time and it is also amazing Staff - the staff has always impressed me with their friendliness and professionalism no matter which location I go/went to. I brought a friend with me recently who bought herself a drink and a drink for her daughters to share. The staff was kind enough to offer to split the drink into two different cups for the little girls. This little gesture made such an impression on them that the girls keep asking for this coffee shop over Starbucks. Also, their stickers are cute. read more

Awakenings has some of my favorite coffee in Cincinnati! The location is perfect to grab a drink before a morning walk around Hyde Park or trip to the farmers market. The employees are always kind and prompt, which is impressive given the popularity of this shop on the weekends. My husband enjoys the americanos and I've loved each item I've tried from the menu! While the shop itself could definitely be larger to accommodate the number of guests they typically serve on the weekends, the outdoor seating is a great supplement. While visiting Hyde Park, a suburb of Cincinnati in Ohio, we went to Awakenings Coffee and Wine. The coffee was delicious... So much so that I took a bag of espresso beans back home to San Diego. Did not try any of the wine. The café is located on a wonderful block in Hyde Park with available shopping, food, and beautiful neighborhoods to walk nearby. Service wasn't as friendly as you'd expect, they weren't rude by any means, just not the typical caffeinated baristas. Would definitely go back again. read more

This place is a great addition to the Hyde Park area! My fiancé and I often come to the area for Breadsmith and the farmer's market and will stop in this area to grab a cup of Joe before hitting our other spots. I haven't explored their wines - though at a glance, they have a wide (and aesthetically pleasing) selection. As for their coffee, I think this is a great place to stop in a bind or if you're in the area - but it is not my favorite in the Cincinnati area. I think their coffees are more appealing to those who are Starbucks fans who may not prefer a stronger drink. My go-to is an iced oat milk latte and the one here is not a favorite because it is a bit watery (so to be fair - it may be an ordering error on my end). Oh Hyde Park... It doesn't get much better than grabbing a window seat at Awakenings with a coffee in hand and a laptop (or a book, better yet!) and taking in the charm of Hyde Park Square. I have only ever visited Awakenings for coffee, but would love to come back and dabble in their wine selection. The coffee shop can definitely get a little loud at times, I noticed that the sounds seemed to bounce off the walls almost (or maybe the people inside were just particularly loud). I would definitely recommend bringing a set of earbuds if you're trying to get some work done. I really appreciated how kind the staff was. The cashier made friendly banter as I paid for my coffee and was quick to ask if I had any questions about the menu. I always love venturing to Hyde Park Square and Awakenings is just another excuse for me to pop over more often. read more

HOLY F*** (foam) ...I got the foamiest cappuccino that I have ever seen! I never know what to expect when I try a new place in Hyde Park (my West Side swine palate and wallet usually can't keep up) - but Awakenings proved to be worth the trip. Parking is easy on Hyde Park square; the entire business district seems to have really improved over the last few years. One of my favorite coffee shops in Cincinnati! Perfect location in Hyde Park Square, with tons of parking and shops arounds. I was intrigued by both the coffee and wine that Awakening serves, but they do it pretty well. I ordered the iced hazelnut latte and my friend ordered the iced chai tea and a muffin. Pretty good! I wish they had a wider food menu, but what they do have is nice -- they even have Donna's Gourmet Cookies in their shop! Overall, really great place to work and a nice overall vibe to them. Favorite coffee shop in town (and not just because I live on Hyde Park Square and can walk in less than 60 seconds. Although that might also play into it... ). I personally love flavored coffees, but hate adding syrups and other artificial flavorings to my brew. Awakenings serve a different flavored coffee every day until 2pm (shoutouts go to Cinnabon and Blueberry Cobbler), and have a reduced price for those of us who bring their own mugs (check out as using a 'mobile cup'!). Make sure to get a punchcard if you're a frequent coffee drinker! Noteworthy scoop: Awakenings also serves wine flights and has music on Friday and Saturday nights. Enjoyed an iced latte with toffee syrup which was made perfect. Really enjoyed it in the 83+ degree weather outside while walking down Hyde Park square. The staff are good at holding small talk. In my case, oddly enough it was about bourbon not wine or coffee. I've been to Awakenings twice now - once for coffee and work and once for a Friday wine date. Both times, I really enjoyed my experience. While Awakenings has a decent amount of seating it does get packed so be sure to check their peak hours if you are going in to work for a bit - especially if you need a charger. The baristas are very nice and while I haven't gotten food here before I have been eyeing the cookies in their display case. If you are going for a glass of wine I would recommend going during their happy hour. I believe it is 5-7pm Mon-Friday. It is $5 for a 5oz pour during that time period. On average, a 5oz pour outside of happy hour ranges from $8-10. I had their Riesling which I really enjoyed. Overall, Awakenings is a great spot to meet up with friends. There is plenty of metered parking nearby and a Hyde Park is a great neighborhood to walk around whether it's after a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. read more

NOT a positive experience. Went in with my boyfriend and our foster service dog in-training (SDiT) around 10:00AM Sunday April 3rd. For some background, part of training a SDiT is to expose the young dogs and also train them in public spaces. Ohio Code 955.43 protects the rights of people with disabilities and trainers handling service dogs or service dogs in training. ​The sign on the window states "No Dogs Except Service Dogs"... While in line deciding our orders I was approached by a middle aged white male in everyday clothes holding a to-go coffee and he stated "can I hold your dog outside for you, dogs aren't allowed inside." This was very confusing because the dog is wearing his SDiT vest and it was advertised that they are allowed inside and also this man did not introduce himself to me and is asking the handle my dog. I stated he was in training and the man persisted due to health codes he wasn't allowed in. I politely noted my understanding and proceeded to wait outside for my boyfriend to now bring our order outside. While sitting outside, this same man approaches me again and stared that he hasn't had enough coffee today and must not have heard me say he was a Service Dog. I explained the fostering and training process for the SDiT and this man (who still has yet to introduce himself and how that may relate to him asking me to leave - at this point he could just be a disgruntled customer who's dog wasn't allowed in - I wasn't sure) glazed over my response and continues to talk about his wife's fostering experience. This man never listened to a word I had to say starting inside the coffee shop. What really upset me was he proceeded to walk to his illegally parked car in a handicap spot (he had no handicap sticker). This overall was a bad look from someone I now presume has some type of ownership or affiliation to this place of business. To illegally park your car, walk inside for coffees, proceed to ask a SDiT to leave and never introduce yourself - this was a very bad look. If I were a customer who benefitted from a service dog and used a handicap parking space I would be extremely upset with this whole this interaction. Hopefully, as a SDiT handler and by writing this review I can bring some awareness and education to service animals so those who benefit from them won't endure a public experience like today. A big THANK YOU to the barista that after I left the shop explained to this man that he had just asked a SDiT to leave. The coffee was fine, but unfortunately due to the overall bizarre experience we will not be returning. To whom it may concern - please update your signage or don't allow " random " people to ask others to leave. read more

It is wonderful to have a unique venue like this anywhere in the city. Coffee and wine is a bit of a strange combination, but when you want coffee and your date wants wine, this is just the kind of Swiss Army Knife that you need. This is a cute venue. Just outside the door you get your first whiff of the wonderful aroma of coffee. Attending on a Friday night, there was live music (no cover) performing in the window up front. The interior designers allowed for a nice little bar style viewing area that faces the performers. This area was very popular and when we arrived there was no chance of getting a seat in said area. Working midway through the building you happen across the coffee bar and cash register area, with a collection of wine to the left. Restrooms were appropriately located in the back. My group was a hodgepodge of wine and coffee drinkers so this place was perfect for us. I ordered a $5 glass of Pinot Grigio as I didn't want to overdo it. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is no cork fee here and that if you didn't finish your bottle they would also reseal it at no additional fee. I definitely suggest this option as it is by far the most economical. We hung out in the open area near the back, chatting and enjoying our assorted beverages. We probably could have benefited from some additional seating, but all told this was a great option. read more

While that sounds like a very weird combination, I've found it makes for a great place for an initial date. You can go for just coffee if you or your date is not a drinker, but it also serves as a good place for conversation over a glass of wine. I was looking for a new coffee shop near Rookwood and a twitter follower suggested Awakenings. Glad I went! It's a wine and espresso bar, which gives it a cool vibe. Only one person was drinking wine at 11am. There were four tables of 50+ adults having meetings or hanging out. I (22) was the youngest by at least 20 years. The coffee menu was pretty basic, your typical iced and hot coffee, lattes, etc. with a selection of syrups. I got my typical iced vanilla latte. It was very good. I also ordered a sausage and cheddar quiche. It's hard when coffeeshops not set up for food try to serve hot food. It always feels like a break in rhythm and something usually goes wrong. I waited for about a minute for my latte and closer to 12 for my quiche. But it was just delicious, wrapped in a puff pastry. A bit cold in the center, but still good. They aren't set up for food, so it was warmed in an oven, just not long enough. I'd order and eat it again, hot or cold. It seemed like there were quite a few regulars there. I'm not sure if I'd sit, hang out and study at Awakenings but it is a great place for business meetings. I arrived about a half hour early to my apartment tour appointment, so I found my way to Awakenings to kill some time. Though I love (LOVE!) coffee, I was first captivated by the abundance of wine! I found out about their wine tastings while waiting for my soy latte to be made and knew I had to come back (which I did a number of months later). My drink was just the right price and made very well. There is abundant seating both indoors and out, and I chose to sit outside. The free wi-fi allowed me to go online on my iPhone while drinking my caffeinated cup of addiction. I never did move to Hyde Park (too expensive!) but whenever I'm in that neck of the woods, I make it a point to return to Awakenings! read more
