Curry goat, white rice, steam veggies, and plantains.

So unlike the first reviewer I have actually eaten here. Yeah there is music but I didn't find it too loud at all. The two ladies behind the counter were very friendly and helpful with making a selection. I ordered the curry goat, white rice, plantains and steam vegetables. Everything came right up and I sat down. The room was a bit warm but not very uncomfortable for me. I sat down and went to town. Niki used to bring me a plate near her work from time to time when we lived in NYC. Boy this curry goat brought me back. Delicious! Some goat with rice, then a bit of plantain. YUM! There was heat but manageable and I hate it when places make things so hot that it voids taste. Here the give you the heat without going overboard. I'll be back!

Barely made it, got here at 6:45, they close at 7

Awesome Jamaican Jerk- Melbourne South- 2 Stars It seems that there's a new sheriff in town (i.e. restaurant) everyone is talking about. I am talking about none other than the new Awesome Jamaican Jerk and Things on Babcock Street in Melbourne, FL. After hearing all the hoopla, I headed out to try it myself with eager anticipation. Upon opening the door of the restaurant I was immediately reminded of the Maxell "Blown Away" guy in the old TV commercials from the 70s as the music was so loud, I could virtually feel my fedora shifting backward. Based on the color of the walls, I came to the conclusion that the owner was not only out to kill my sense of hearing but destroy my vision as well, as my eyeballs were practically burnt out of their sockets due to the garishly painted decor. I get that they are going for a Jamaican color scheme, but tone it down a smidge! As verbal communication was out of the question, I was forced to use hand signals in order to communicate. After coming to an understanding, we headed toward the counter to place our order. We decided to go with Brown Stew Chicken, Curried Goat and a Beef Patty with plantains and sweet potatoes. We took a seat at an empty table in the limited dining area (the place really is designed for take-out). After a few minutes, my attention was drawn toward the counter as the help was signaling me that our order was up. Fighting the bludgeoning waves of sound thundering from the speakers, I made my way back to the counter to retrieve our order. It was at this point that the Jerry Reed song, "The Uptown Poker Club" came to mind (specifically the chorus). I couldn't help but get the feeling that they were trying to hide something or that they were "takin' them offa the bottom," as in bottom dealing or cheating me somehow. The only fast one pulled that day was on me by all the talk around town about this place. Well, in everyone, the cacophony of screeching noise emanating from the speakers could have addled their brains so that they weren't thinking clearly. Here is the objective truth: the Brown Stew Chicken was tender and tasty; however, the sweet potatoes were undercooked. Now, I am the first to admit that I am not all that familiar with Jamaican cuisine, so if they are meant to be firm to the point of crunchy, then they were done to perfection. The rice that accompanied it, while cooked fine, was bland and lacking in flavor. The Curried Goat was a huge letdown. The reason being that for a curry dish it lacked any and all heat and was bland on the palate. Even the perfectly cooked Goat couldn't save this dish. The Beef patty was cooked to order and tasted fine. Although, once again, the chef seemed to have trouble with the sides as the plantains were overcooked. Maybe I should have gone with something jerked, after all, it's in their name, maybe they do that better than the curry. At this point I realized the Awesome part of their name did not relate to the food quality but the feeling of angst and disappointment you feel leaving here. Awesomely bad!! The Big Boy says, "Unless you know American Sign Language or another means of communicating non-verbally and like bland curry, stay out of here." #bigboydiningout #iamthebigboy

The place is really nice. Lots of great decor, and a live stream of Key West on a TV screen that we sat near. Food was absolutely delicious. I got the Guava Jerk Sirloin. It was cooked beautifully. The sauce was absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes were loaded and massive, and the broccoli tasted great. Couldn't finish it, so took it home! I also got the Cafe con Leche, and it was wonderful. Would come here again!

Two have chickpea as a source with the third no having a plant based source of protein in the dish. We confirmed with the server that the guacamole did not contain dairy so ordered the plantain chips and guac as an app- highly recommend. Then after having many other burgers/sandwiches on our trip I opted for the chickpea pasta with veggies and leaving off the parm to make it vegan. I appreciate the volume of veggies in the dish, though the sauce was a touch too oily. The main issue was the cooks WAY over cooked the chickpea pasta so when they tossed it with the sauce and veggies 2/3 of the pasta had broken apart...

We had some specific needs, the guest of honor is a vegetarian, very environmentally conscious and supports sustainability. Chef Danny and his wife Katie Clark created such a fantastic event that not only fulfilled the needs of every guest, but knocked it into the stratosphere. Firstly the food. The menu was so thoughtfully put together. Fresh, innovative dishes for every palate that were just so delicious and looked absolutely beautiful. Every guest was so excited about the food, it was a repeated topic of conversation throughout the event. My personal favorite was the blueberry cobbler crumble with chantilly of which I ate 5, but we'll move quickly past that...sorry not sorry. Honestly, I wish I'd had leftovers for breakfast this morning. The beautiful sustainable bamboo plates and "silverware" were gorgeous and a perfect compliment too and much appreciated by Ainsley. Next, the bar curated and tended by the hostess-with-the-mostest Katie, co-owner of Drifters with husband Chef Danny. Katie put together an array of delicious drink options around certain specifics we'd requested and ensured everyone had their needs anticipated and met instantly. Beautiful drinks in compostable drinkware and stunning edible decorations. The mocktails for the non-drinkers were perfection. Bravo! The presentation, decoration and attention to the smallest of details made the event just extra special - fresh flowers in Ainsley's school colors at the bar, gorgeous ice baths for the drinks and beautifully displayed fresh flowers surrounding the food itself, which were like works of art. Visually stunning as well as beautiful to eat and drink. Like I said earlier, they knocked it into another galaxy in every aspect. Lastly, but certainly not least, the service. From start to finish, every single member of the Drifters team made this such an easy and fun experience. The offers of help for anything we might need throughout the process was unexpected and absolutely above and beyond what was required, but we were so very grateful and appreciative of all they did. The team puts their heart, soul and love into their work and it shows in abundance. They did it all with genuine smiles on their faces; each of them happy, calm and confident, no stress, no fuss. It was a pleasure to work with them. We've been regular customers of Drifters the restaurant and now we can say that we love their event catering just as much as we love their restaurant. I'm already thinking about what next event we have coming up...I need that blueberry dessert again. To the Drifters family, thank you from our family to yours for helping us make such great memories that we'll have for years to come. We love you guys. We didn't get that many pictures because we were too busy eating and enjoying ourselves with family and friends, as is the mark of a great party, but hopefully you get the general idea
