I love this spot! I stumbled upon this place, and it's such a hidden gem. It's small, but you can tell it's full of love; cozy, welcoming, and full of good vibes. This restaurant had a Grand Reopening and it's a much better location in downtown Metuchen. They serve Indo American fusion food but they are mainly a bakery. Cookies, cakes, croissants, and muffins is the name of the game here. Tried the rendang tacos, rendang burger, and nasi goreng (fried rice). Very good dishes, a bit on the spicy side since there is chili in the fried rice. It's Indonesian food so you should know what you got yourself into. Bakery wise, tried the chocolate fudge cake cup, croissant, and their ube crepe cake. All were very good. Not too sweet, which I like. They do custom cakes for special events too (birthday, wedding, graduations) if you are in need of that. Didn't try the bubble tea or the breakfast items as I came during their lunch hours. Love the NASI GORENG I get it spicy if that's not your thing get mild but very filling and flavorful. Even though I visited on a weekend 30 minutes after they opened, everything was really disorganized with multiple pastries still not ready (for example, when I ordered a couple of cupcakes, they pulled out a frosting bag and piped it out onto cupcakes sitting in trays then and there). While the 2 attendants were wearing gloves, the same gloves were touching multiple surfaces, food and the cash register. I bought 8 items and the server crammed all of them into one tiny box, smooshed together. All of that I could have probably lived with. But after getting home, and trying one of the cakes layered with cream I bit into a piece of hard plastic. At first I thought it might be a tough shred of coconut or something but, alas, when I pulled it out of my mouth it was a spiky shard of clear plastic. It was unnerving that plastic could end up in the food and that there is the possibility of having ingested an even smaller piece unknowingly. Thank goodness it wasn't one of my young nieces who had that dessert. On the plus side, the cake was delicious until that moment - creamy and decadent. We ordered the Indo Burger (beef burger topped with braised beef/rendang and a side of fries) and Nasi Goreng (Rice stir-fry w/ veggies and chicken). I loved both! AwesomeYO's is in a new downtown location in a Victorian-style building and the space is sunny and pleasant (there was an elderly gentleman sitting at a window table enjoying the view and a treat - good for him!). I've been a fan of AwesomeYO's goodies since hearing about them on a radio show and visiting the former location. Walk in and you can have whatever you're in the mood for, from an exotic or traditional drink (hot or cold), to some authentic Indonesian entrees, to cookies/cake/pie/pastries. Part of the beauty of this place is the selection, which goes from traditional American baked goods (e.g. chocolate chip cookies, cheesecakes) to Indonesian delicacies (the Nastar, pictured, Indonesia's delectable signature pineapple pastry, is something you shouldn't miss). The bakery is small and really cute. You can call ahead of time for pickup right now. I find that their chocolate croissants don't have enough chocolate. However, I do enjoy the other croissants. I got the matcha cheesecake which tbh is not a cheesecake. It is more cake like but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not very sweet and tastes similar to the Paris baguette green tea cakes. I also got a brownie and it was so dry. A butter knife could not cut through it. I even microwaved it to help soften it up, however, it was still quite hard. We ordered cake for bday party for our little one and we picked a dummy design recommemded by Yolanda, that is available in their shop. It was a safest choice since the design was among their bestsellers and one of the very few dummy design available in the shop. Unfortunately, what was delivered to us was very rushed in version of what we were shown by Yolanda! I was really really disappointed given that my expectation from Yolanda was to deliver what she has delivered before many times before. The fact that they have few dummy cakes available in the shop that they recommend to their customers as one of their signature cakes and still not able to deliver same is really sad.
