What a lovely local bakery/ cafe/coffee shop. Bakery items ranged from donuts to Italian cookies to cakes, bread, and more. I wanted to bring some goodies home to my hubby so I selected some hot cross buns, linzer tart cookie, and a canoli. The latter was soggy and they exchanged it for a crisper option. I am pretty sure this week was my first time having an official cake from D'Orsi's. They did not disappoint! My husband surprised me with this cake on my birthday. The detailing on it was beautiful, it had a really pretty shimmer and it's been awhile since I've seen a birthday cake this pretty (with the exception of elaborate very expensive cakes). The cake itself was fluffy and the icing very tasty, I believe it was just standard buttercream but it had a nice depth of flavor that almost gave it a white chocolate taste. I continue to come here for bagels, we don't have a ton of bagel shops in the area and they do a solid bagel here. My only complaint is they've been going extremely light with the cream cheese when I order a cream cheese bagel, and I like it somewhere in the middle between extremely light and Nj deli style clouds of cream cheese. This is frustrating because there id a significant up-charge when you ask for cream cheese on your bagel. I'd rather have to take some off than not have enough, especially since I usually order salted bagels. I am sure I can ask for more next time and they will accommodate, I just always forget! For years, I had only considered D'Orsi's for pies and pastries on holidays. It wasn't until my sister brought me over a breakfast sandwich recently when I became HOOKED. Dare I say the best bacon, egg & cheese sandwich in town? The bacon is always perfectly crispy & the cheese super melty! Simple, but delicious, and the perfect on-the-go breakfast. Paired with a delicious cold brew... mmm... The bakery is beautiful and bright since the renovations and doesn't feel cramped like other bakeries. Staff is always friendly & service is fast for food! There are a few tables for those hoping to eat inside. Now for the star of the show, the PUMPKIN PIE!!! WITH WHIPPED CREAM ON TOP!!! This ain't no ordinary pie! The score of a one is for service alone. They look at you behind the counter and don't acknowledge you at all to help you. I literally had to ask who can I order from because everyone is just walking around doing their own thing and do not want to help. The service absolutely is the worst maybe because they are the only bakery around so it has gotten into their heads.. but the bread is amazing. read more

Stopped by on a rainy Saturday to check out this bakery, really happy I did. Street parking out front, very inviting, open bakery, really cute! You can absolutely sit and eat here. Space is really clean and the ambiance is good! The staff were friendly, efficient and the wait wasn't long. Tried a few things; bacon egg and cheese sandwiches on an everything bagel: 10/10, BEC on croissant: 10/10, Oreo cake: 10/10, sugar light apple tart 8/10 (dessert are meant to be packed with sugar, I played myself getting a semi health dessert lol, was fresh and really good). My only gripe was my latte; 2/10, wasn't good. All of the food and treats tried were really fresh, made with love, makes me want to come back to try more things! Happy I checked out this place. I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, but every time I'm in New Jersey to visit family this is the first and the last stop for us. We are obsessed with Hungarian cookies. The quality is very fresh, but the customer service from Kevin was above and beyond. He is so sweet, so helpful and overall just a nice guy. After we left to the car, we saw him helping another customer by opening the door and holding their bakery items. Such a great guy. Left an impression on us enough to write a review! read more

Had the pleasure of doing a sampling of breads, muffins, pastries and crumb buns, when we had lunch here today. Hey, it was research! The food was delicious, the decor was so inviting and an ever so gentle waft of confectionary sugar filled the air! The renovated bakery is so much more now! Stop in for lunch! The staff was pleasant and the facility was pristine. Best part of our visit was our time chatting with the owner and baker Steven. I can't recommend this place more. PS If you have to choose, don't leave without some crumb buns or an apple strudel (as good as the strudel I've had in Vienna) and grab a loaf of the sesame braid and a rye under each arm! First visit yesterday after renovations and I was disappointed. The renovation has tried to transform a wonderful bakery into a cafe. Tried a "slice" of Tiramisu and a "slice" of carrot cake. $5 ea, all cream and little cake and tasteless. Someone is going to get hurt by tripping on the poorly constructed walkway. Where is the township inspection and approvals? Ordered a small Italian sub. Roll took effort to bite through it. Long time customer and I hope all that investment and business model works out, although I'll stick to basic baked goods. read more

I love this bakery. I have been a patron for 40 years when I got my wedding cake from them. Different owners a few times but the quality is always the same. Very good. I just purchased a baby shower cake for my daughter and she wanted certain things on it and in it and the girls behind the counter were so nice and accommodating and patient. This bakery is open Wednesday to Sunday. DO NOT buy anything towards the end of the day on Sunday. My daughter spent $45 here yesterday afternoon. The dozen bagels? Inedible!! They were so HARD they couldn't be broken in half. The half dozen rolls? So HARD they couldn't be sliced or dented with your finger. Clearly they sold her OLD, STALE bread at the end of their business week. She called and left a message and she took videos as proof. We'll see what happens. read more

While it looks nice,albeit the outside sidewalk/step is a little dangerous, the quality has gone SUPER DOWN HILL..We would look fwd to travelling miles from home to get baked goods..Urgh. The 7 layer cake was awful. The donuts & cheese danish were sad attempts. The rye bread,rolls and BEST crumb cake remain solid,but NOTHING else we tried was remotely good. After the reno,I wonder if they switched to lower qual supplies? new bakers? Anyway,NOT worth a trip from around the corner much less 40_miles. Also how about people at counter HELP the counter,and not stay on phone inquiries or answer that they will call back... Sad-so long to renovate,and decent `looking` stuff but poor execution.. Happy mid-week Adventurers! This is a hidden gem in the local area of Port Reading/Carteret. This is a child hood favorite, been coming here with my grandparents for years. This is a family owned business, usually staffed by locals kids. They offer a huge selection of delectable pastries, breads, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and other smaller delicious treats. I remember coming here getting the St. Joseph pastries, eating only the inside yumminess. I also love the gooey brownies too! I generally go here for the slices of homemade pizza squares and the bread (Italian & Rye). They taste amazing when you toast a slice and spread it with whipped butter. The pizza squares were a relatively new thing a few years ago and I am so happy that they started making them! Great grab and got for lunch. I would also recommend the raspberry twist cookies--though they tend to get really pricey! But they beat out the crap sold at Wego's, you can taste the years of love and experience in each bite. I know they close a few times during the summer so give them a call in case. l also just found out that they ship their items, not sure how that actually works out though. This place is also tucked right under the bridge, near the Bow Water Play place I think it's called. On occasion you can see deer wandering near the train tracks. It was a little out of my may to drive here but it was worth it as I brought home a bunch of delicious pastries, including the coffee cake which I thought was pretty good. D'Orsi's has been a mainstay in Port Reading and I can see why. They bake breads, breakfast pastries, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, butter cookies and pastries. I noticed you can order custom made cupcakes and cakes for special occasions. Too bad I didn't live closer. Have been coming to D'Orsi's since my mom took me there as a kid in the 90's. I can distinctly remember the lobster tails and St joesephs they made and would go out of my way to go get some. After asking for some lobster tails on my last visit I was told "we don't make them". Got some St Joseph's and they were as good as I remember but to be told something isn't made that was a staple item is just disappointing. Seems that after the renovation and presumed change of ownership that things have changed and not for the better. read more

All Time Favorite Local Bakery! Definitely Five Stars. Everything is Always Super Fresh and Super Delicious. The Staff is consistently Super Friendly, Super Professional and Overall extremely knowledgeable with their baked goods selection. Something tells me they must congregate in the Kitchen and try everything on the menu because they know all of their products so throughly. We love that D'Orsi's often adds New Items to their Bakery Displays. Most recently they've added Bite Sized Chocolate Chip Shell Filled with Fresh Cannoli Cream and Chocolate Coated-- which are incredible! D'Orsi's always does a Spectacular Job on our Special Occassion Cakes that we also wouldn't recommend any other bakery other than D'Orsi's to Family and Friends for all of their Special Occassion Cakes. D'Orsi's recently created a beautiful tier cake for our Daughter's 10th Birthday Party at Dave and Busters. Dave and Busters staff and patrons were so impressed by not only the presence of the cake but the cakes freshness and aroma that overtook the Arcade. The taste was fresh, moist, not over sweetened and just absolutely delicious. There was not a single bite left to save. My daughters also absolutely love and are obsessed with their oversized chocolate chip cookies so we also ordered those as favors. The owner is a total jerk who does not know how to interact with customers. I received an incorrect order and when I called them about it they asked me to come in with the cake. So I leave mid- party and go right away only to be insulted and yelled at. He had zero remorse for giving me a disgusting cake and basically told me it's half gone so it must have been good. It was so bad that the kids did no even finish it. Not only did I lose money but I also left the cake at the bakery, IT WAS THAT BAD! I wouldn't even give them one star if I had a choice. read more

This was my first experience with Dorsi's and I'm pretty sure it will be my last. I ordered a custom Superman cake I ran across on Pinterest months ago but saved for my son's birthday this month. I called the bakery (staff are really nice) and explained what I wanted and when. First, as another reviewer mentioned, they are closed on Mondays, so I had to pick the cake up a day earlier (and hide it lol) for the next day. I must say, as far as decorating the cake, I have no complaints. It was a real show stopper, and kudos to whoever at their shop has that creativity. (Hence the 2 stars.) Now to the nitty gritty--the taste. It was awful. It was supposed to be chocolate cake with vanilla custard filling. The cake was stale, and the custard did not taste like vanilla at all. The cape (fondant) was good, but the icing itself tasted like pure butter--not butter cream frosting, just butter. At $85 for a 10" round cake, I was really expecting something very edible.
