I celebrated my clients birthday yesterday!! Happy Birthday, Dianne!!!! She picked Awful Annie's so she could enjoy an Awful Annie's Famous Body Mary! It had a touch of spice and was garnished with celery, a green olive, a spicy green bean, pepperchini, a lime, and a pearl onion. For lunch, we decided to order of the weekend specials menu! I ordered the Carnitas & chorizo Huevos Stack and she ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Dip... service was good. While we waited for our food, my client had to use the restroom twice. From where we were sat, it was quite a long walk, but it was an accessible ramp she was able to use since she has a cane. The steps would've been too much for her. When our meals arrived... both were stunning. My huevos Stack was not all it was cracked up to be. Although they had great crispy tortillas underneath, it had a lot of other soft foods on it that didn't give it much texture. Refried beans, over medium eggs, pico de gallo, red enchilada sauce, and not much meat on it to go around the plate to even it out. Dianne's Country Fried Steak Dip looked and tasted like it was created by someone that knows their breakfasts! Between 2 slices of parmesan toasted bread, there was a thin country fried steak, with over medium eggs, cheese, and BACON!!! And a side of gravy to dip into. That was a million times better than the huevos Stack! So I politely asked our server if I could switch to that special. She got the order in right away and it was out fast. Every bite had the perfect amount of flavor and their sausage gravy tasted insanely good! Both my client and I went home worth half of our meal. She was so happy and it melted my heart that I helped her have an amazing birthday. With the help of Awful Annie's, they helped her birthday become a home run!!! Came here on the way home from a road trip, and had to try something I spied on the menu a day or so previously - I like to plan my attack! I ordered the parmesan crusted grilled cheese benedict - a mouthful just to say, let alone try to eat . . . If it were JUST the Parmesan-crusted grilled cheese, I would have been happy as a clam. But add the Benedict (2 poached eggs and hollandaise sauce), and I escalate to a happy abalone. Well, you get the idea! I ordered with fruit on the side. And extra Hollandaise. It came quickly, and it was nicely presented - an artwork of home cooking cuisine. It was an amazing taste experience, and I think I have a new favorite here. It was so good and I had it with fruits instead of potatoes. The fruits were super fresh! My friend had an egg scramble with sausage and some Veggies and it was good and tasted good as well. The place was deceivingly big and service was lovely. On a chilly winter morning, the seated us by the fire, alongside a bar area playing sports. A lot of patrons (both seemingly locals and travelers) were enjoying bloody Mary's, so seemingly they make some good cocktails. As friendly as staff can be when totally swamped (and It was our bad for sauntering in on a Saturday for breakfast). We typically know better but we were feeling adventurous and went for it. Seated fairly quickly, drink orders taken, and food ordered shortly thereafter. Carne Asada Benedict for my kid and a Mini-breakfast for me. It took about 45 for the food to arrive after ordering. Kid loved his dish and mine ...it wasn't too bad (pictured). The saving grace of mine was that my son got his avocado on the side and I snatched it up. I think the highlight of the meal might have been seeing on the receipt that you can pay by scanning the QR code. Thoroughly impressed. How has every restaurant not adopted this option yet!? The only Awful thing about the eatery is the name. The food, the employees, the prices and the roomy layout is all wonderful. Change the name to Wonderful Annie's. Bambie, me and the three Labrador retrievers came for breakfast. Plenty of room for the dogs to nestle next to our table while tied to the fence railing. I ate the 2+2+2+2. $15.99. As the title implies it's 2 eggs, 2 pieces of french toast, 2 strips of bacon, 2 kinds of fruit (2 wedges of pineapple, two wedges of cantalope). Plenty of food for a big appetite. Tasty. I cleaned the plate. Bambie wanted less food. She did a la carte. Just one egg, 2 strips bacon, toast and the same fruit. We enjoyed the meal, the friendly and attentive service. Awful Annie's is awfully good! This is a must-stop if you love breakfast foods. They have BACON FLIGHTS and four pages of breakfast delectables. I had an omelet which sadly I ate too quickly without thinking of sharing the photographic evidence. The waitstaff were lovely, always right there when I was thinking of another cup of coffee. If there is anything negative to say, it is that the coffee is fresh and strong but not memorable. But I am a coffee snob, so take that into consideration. My 20+ year old son, whom I have seen devour whole plates of food without pause, could not entirely finish his plate of pancakes. He was very excited to take home the leftovers, though! If your expectations are set correctly, this place is awesome. This is a breakfast place on the upper outskirts of Auburn. Easy freeway access. The vibe is Country Kitchen. Country kitchens are homey and well worn. That is what this place is. Service was great. Very nice person. Food came out quickly and hot. The food was a B+ to B- depending on what was ordered. I absolutely love Awful Annie's. I used to go to the one in Lincoln weekly for breakfast unfortunately that location is no longer there. So we make the drive from Roseville to Auburn & everytime it is worth it. I have every one of their Benedicts the crab cake on is my absolute favorite. Their morning Tacos are delicious. Was it awful? Maybe just the bread pudding, which is disappointing considering it was recommended. But more about that later. I came with a group of 11 after a hike, and we were smart to make a reservation because it was busy when we arrived. We still had to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation time, but we stayed patient. The restaurant is big with multiple rooms, and we were seated in the back near one of the bathrooms (not sure if there were more, honestly). I ordered the Carne Asada Benedict, which I'd heard was a must-try, and it didn't disappoint. I do wish it was a bit hotter - it was the last dish to come out, so I'm not sure what happened there. The rest of my group ordered a variety of dishes, like the steak "sandwich" which is actually open-faced. My cousin missed that in the description, so his reaction when he got it was hilarious. There were other dishes too, which I've pictured but can't remember the exact names. Food looked great. Enjoyable meal. Will we return? Maybe not, but we had a good time. Now back to the dessert. We were all really hype to try it. We asked our server about the portion size, and she gave a hand gesture that made us think it was small and not really shareable. Turns out, it was large. We all ordered one each, but it would've been great if it actually tasted good. We all agreed it didn't meet expectations. The brandy sauce was too strong, and the texture wasn't hitting. A lot of money spent on food that went to waste :( Despite that, I'd still recommend this spot if you're in the area. I wouldn't drive out for it. We arrived in town in the late evening and passed this restaurant. With such a funny name, we laughed and actually thought they were closed. We had breakfast the following morning. The service was great and a young man clearing tables actually sat us and grabbed drinks. The same young man offered suggestions and was quite helpful. The server was great as well. The food was AMAZING. We had the mexi-scramble and the meat lovers scramble. The fried potatoes were terrific, fruit perfectly ripe, and the toast... a little too much on the toasted side for our preference. After some mediocre hotel breakfast, decided to try this place for lunch and it was fantastic. Auburn may be a small town, but the restaurants we tried during our visit sure hit the spot. In a review I saw, the Italian Sub looked really good and although it wasn't authentic whatsoever, it was mighty fine delicious. Plus, the fries with burgers and sandwiches were fried and seasoned excellently. The Reuben was great and had a good amount of meat. Outside, the restaurant doesn't look very big, but inside, there could be like 200 seats and the tables aren't crowded out all. The staff is friendly, the food is great, and the vibe is comfy. On the way to/from Tahoe/Reno??? Stop here for a bite to eat, you won't regret it! Here's the backstory... I have an EV that can now use Tesla Supercharging stations, so when looking for places to charge up, I found a spot in Auburn that can top me off before heading up into the mountains. Let's be honest, once you get into Nevada, there aren't a lot of convenient choices for recharging. I digress... After plugging into my first TS station, up the road was Ikeda's Market (6 min walk). So as I was walking up to grab some lunch, I walked past Awful Annie's. I've always noticed it from the freeway, but judging from its signage, I never thought about stopping in the past. There were quite a bit of cars out front so I turned around and decided to give it a try... glad I did! Inside is a great, casual, wide open space which is great for all party sizes, from one person to twenty. The crowd is mixed and there appears to be a lot of regulars (a good sign). Service was friendly and efficient. As for the food, I ordered a cup of the clam chowder and Annie's French Dip sandwich with a side salad. The soup was delicious and the side salad was fresh and served with a nice Italian dressing (which I ordered). When my sandwich came though, it wasn't the French Dip I had ordered, but an Italian Sub... although disappointed with the wrong order, I was pressed for time and didn't want to make a fuss because the sandwich did look really good. First bite in and I could have cared less that the order was bungled. This sandwich was amazing! As an update, I did stop by again the next day and ordered the French Dip and that was spectacular too! Anyways, this could be my new GO TO on the way up the Tahoe from here on out. After driving past Awful Annie's for YEARS, a friend of mine got me to stop here for lunch on a Sunday. The inside is much larger than I expected. The decor and set up feels kind of like a brighter local version of Cracker Barrel. But much lovelier! The food was very good, I had the Baker Brothers burger with french fries. I also ordered a house salad, their blue cheese dressing is house-made and delicious. The iced tea was fresh and strong. They make and sell a cinnamon black tea that my friend buys in bulk there. I was out for a drive, so decided to stop here for a late breakfast. I've been here once before, and really enjoyed the food. Even at 10 AM on a Monday morning, the place was relatively busy. Apparently, over the weekend it gets very, very busy I was seated immediately. The place is clean and bright, everybody was very friendly, and it has a "country café", vibe, although it is a very good sized restaurant. They also have a full bar. Last time I was here, I had the "morning mess" Ornette, and it was delicious. But it was a lot of food. This time, I decided to have the artichoke omelette. Artichoke hearts, mushrooms, with Jack and cheddar cheese. It comes with hollandaise sauce, but because I am trying to eat healthier, I asked them to put salsa on it instead. Instead of potatoes, I had a nice selection of fruit, and I also asked for a biscuit. Everything was delicious! The omelette was just the right size, I loved the artichoke hearts and the mushrooms, and the amount of cheese was just right. The salsa went very well with it. Just a little bit of spice on it. The biscuit was large and fluffy, with a delicious strawberry jam. I don't know where they get their jam, but it did not taste like your average store-bought jam. It was extremely good.
