I came in a group on a Thursday weeknight around 7 pm. We were almost the only ones in there and it didn't get too packed as the night went on. There was plenty of parking in the strip mall/plaza where Axem is located. Rates: $26 for an hour if you're paying by card or $25 for an hour if you're paying in cash. The biggest surprise to me was that there isn't any particularly special equipment or technique to throwing an axe. I got pretty nervous, though, imagining all the ways I could hit myself. Nothing like that happened, I'm happy to say. They give you training and tips if it's your first time, which aren't included in your hour. Because of this, I was able to practice for about 10-15 minutes before my group's hour actually started. Training and practice could take less time if you're not like me and have some strength and coordination. There are three axes of varying weights you can throw with and they suggest a couple of games to compete against your friends. I can't say I improved much over the session, but I had a lot of fun. One hour is surprisingly a lot of time and I definitely felt myself flagging after a while. My muscles were sore the day afterward. I don't know if it was harder because I'm short and weak, but even so I had a lot of fun despite missing 95% of the time. We even got some light metal axe-shaped blades which were much easier for me to throw (but still with a low success rate of actually sticking). A while back I was looking for something new and fun to do for both leisure and to blow off some steam for stress relief and came across Axem. Axem is a bit off the beaten path for us being in Covina but was definitely worth the trip for me. We arrived early and waited for the doors to open. As we walked in we were greeted by the staff members on duty and asked to take a seat while the finished setting everything up for the day. A few minutes later and we were checked in and taken to our caged off lane and given the overview and instructions of what to expect. After a brief demonstration by the staff member we were turned loose and given as much time as we needed to warm up and get used to throwing at the target. We took a while being that it was our first time but they were very patient with us and always explaining our movements issues and working to ensure a more fulfilling visit. After we finally felt a bit more comfortable they explained the different games and scorecard and we were on our way. The games were easy to understand and score and we had a great time during the duration of our visit. I also was happy with the sunshine reggae tunes that were being played throughout the visit as well as this helped keep things light as well. The staff continued to check and see ow things were going and offered assistance and even added time to our session when a chunk of the target board needed to be taken down and replaced due to the damage caused over time from all those axes. This was an incredible first experience and I will definitely be back again soon. Value was good, the staff is top notch and the axe throwing itself is fun for all. Came here around 2 o clock. Waiver had to be signed first and then you're assigned a lane. There's a brief training and the "timer" starts right when training is done. The price is 30/per person. We did one hour and it went by p fast! I couldn't get any hits during the training but after a while I got better. So glad there's an axe throwing place in the 626 area now! It was easy to reserve online and perf for large groups. They had 3 different types of axes to throw with 3 sets of knives too. And they had a little photo area to take pics with and take song requests as well! The workers were amazing in explaining the process/demo. The explanation process wasn't a part of the 1 hr so we stayed for 1.5 hours in total which was amazing! We really got to play in that 1 hour and felt like it was our money's worth. We checked in and the 2 employees that greeted us were awesome (Sorry I can't remember your names). They were very informative since we told them it was our 1st time trying it. They took the time to the demonstrate proper technics and different equipment options. They even went over our technic as we practiced our throwing to make sure we were doing it right. Came in the evening before Thanksgiving, so my review is a bit overdue. Axem is in a strip mall, so there's plenty of free parking. The three of us showed up right at opening, so we were the first ones. The 2 guys there were very welcoming, even though they were still setting up. We asked for both the axe throwing and the knife throwing experience since it's was only a few dollars more per person. We were brought to a lane and instructed on proper stances and throwing form. I loved that the ~15 min training didn't count as part of our paid hour. They made sure we were safe and comfortable before they charged us to have fun. We had all seen the freak video where the axe bounces back at the thrower, but we quickly learned that was near impossible with our strength and their setup. We also learned that the knife, on the other hand, does bounce back a lot if it doesn't stick. As beginners, we decided to cancel the knife throwing during training and they graciously allowed it. No attempt at upselling made. We spent an hour having a blast. With the 3 of us, we played 3 rounds of the suggested games with a few minutes to spare. We stopped because our arms got tired. If I remember correctly, a bigger group can get a bigger lane to play together but the area easily gets cramped. I'd suggest splitting the group, even if it might cost a bit more. The play area is small anyway, so you'll likely be right next to each other and you won't have to spend your hour waiting for your turn. I'd love to come back eventually. read more

Soooooo much fun and such a unique experience with great instructors (Abe and Justin) who really helped everyone feel comfortable. First off, we had a group of 30 or so for a team building event and more than a few people were apprehensive about throwing an axe! The team at Axem we're very patient and professional and got almost everyone to participate, which was cool. Not everyone was successful hitting the targets, but I think everyone had a fun and unique experience that will be talked about at the office for quite some time. We also had some naturals who claim they have never thrown an axe before, but I don't buy it :) Personally, I sucked when it counted but I was getting better after a few more rounds after the scoring was over. Axing! It's something that I've wanted to try for the longest time. I just never got around to it - until recently! I called before visiting to make sure Brick was going to be in because English Bulldogs are one of my girlfriend's favorite breeds. Walking in on a Saturday afternoon, the place was full and Marc (owner) informed us of a 30 minute wait. However, we first filled out the necessary paperwork and then had the option to leave our number and be notified when a lane was ready, but we opted to wait in their lobby area and just pet Brick (time flew by extremely fast doing this!). When it was ready, an instructor escorted us to our lane and gave us a quick rundown of the safety rules and techniques on how to throw. There are various games you can play. In the 1-hour long time that we were throwing, we were able to squeeze in 7 games throwing at a pretty consistent pace (70 throws each person).
