Looking for something fun and unique to do in San Jose? This is the place to go. My husband and I came here on a random Monday night and pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was very cathartic after a long day at work. Right when you enter, there are cute neon signs that are perfect for your social media. Because if you didn't take a picture, did you actually go? The staff members were super friendly and took the time to teach us safety protocols, as well as different strategies to make our throws more successful. They're also very encouraging, especially when I couldn't quite get it right my first couple of times! They also have a lot of unique games to play in-between your throws. My 40th birthday party started here and it was the best decision I have made in all my years on this earth. As a first time axe thrower/long time secret admirer of the sport, my request for this activity for my bday was initially met with laughter and raised eyebrows. But it's like I always say- Friends who do Lumberjack Games together, stay together. So we made it an '80s theme and 20 of us met at AxeVentures on a Saturday night. The area is decorated with some fun murals and neon lights and the staff were friendly and great guides. We got the standard 3 axes ranging from maybe a foot long to I think 18", plus the fire axe and the knives for an extra cost. The staff gave us time to get the feel of the standard axes before adding in the extras periodically. They took the time to demo the proper technique and came by once in awhile to help offer troubleshooting solutions, but not in an overbearing way- the atmosphere was comfortable and chill. It runs kind of like a bowling alley in that we paid per lane and could have up to 5 people at each lane- our group of 20 reserved 4 lanes and it was perfect. Whenever a lane was empty because people were chilling out, someone from a busier lane (in our group still) would come over and throw a few. It never felt like people weren't getting enough turns. We took lots of video and pics, and they had water and sodas available for purchase. They may have had adult bevs but I didn't look for them- they weren't needed to have a blast anyway! And as it was my bday I had expected there would be alcohol so I am impressed that I was having too much fun in the moment to think of it. Plenty of that came later :D read more

WEBSITE SHOULD READ "RESERVATIONS ONLY".......WALK-INS NOT WELCOME!!!!!! We had a few hours to kill on a Monday in the San Jose area and we thought we could pop in and have a little fun with our kids. Unfortunately, when we told the gentleman at the front desk that we did not have a reservation, his demeanor changed and he basically told us that he did not have enough time to "sharpen the axes" and he could not accommodate our group of 4. There were at least 5 open lanes that appeared unused and only one small group of people throwing axes in two lanes. We tried negotiating for a slightly later time slot but the gentleman seemed disinterested in making any accommodations.....Odder still, he finally identified himself as the business owner but he appeared to have no interest in generating more business...clearly his business model does not include customer service. Sad!! read more

We had an awesome Mother's Day with a group of 12-young and old. The youngest, ages 8 & 10, really enjoyed it! We had to force them to give someone else a turn! They were very accommodating and allowed us to bring in a few snacks. I would recommend this to everyone and will go again! read more

I came with my girlfriend to Axeventures on a Sunday afternoon in November. We went as part of her birthday weekend. We were traveling in from SF and expected to be a bit late and called in to let them know. They were very accomadating as were to set to miss the orientation. When we arrived, they had us sign some waivers, and then they showed us individually how to throw the ax in the most optimal and safe way. There are many throwing lanes with fences seperating each lane for protection. The lanes are covered in a bark/foam particles. There are also tape markers in front of each lane to help line up your feet. Apart from the many different sized one/two hand axes to choose from, you can also pick a fake blood exploding targets to hit too. I think for the price, we got a large amount of time to play around. There also is a nature facade that you can take cute pictures at. I highly recommend Axeventures for fun or for a date night. Go check them out! read more

First time trying this place and will definitely be back! We were there this previous Saturday for our 4:30 reservation before the Sharks Game. It was such a great experience. It was just me and my husband as a group. It was busy as families and groups had multiples plus I believe a birthday group of kids. There was one other group that was another couple and since it was packed and busy, we didn't have a fenced off lane. We shared an area with this other couple and worked out well for us all. I had a Big Axe on our purchase already, and the staff was kind enough to give knives to the other couple free so we shared all in between. Plus, since we shared the area (which still was two separate targets, you just don't have the fence splitting), staff was so kind enough to both groups and give us the blood dripping targets with no added charge. They we're super helpful, well experienced and the place was cleaned ALL in between the next reservation. They sprayed and sanitized EVERYTHING which is always nice knowing they care about everyone's health and safety. I'm already telling my husband we need to go back asap! read more

We had a very bad experience yesterday at San Jose. Eric(the manager) was very rude. We were 6 of us and there were some empty lanes but he didn't allow us to take more than 1 lane. And, when we politely asked him if he could use another lane to play as well, he rudely said no and shouted at us. Apart from Eric who spoiled the experience for us, the overall game was also not fun. They make 6 people play in a single lane and it is hard for everyone to play in such a short time.
