My red curry plate was served with lots of chicken and basil leaves, all mixed together in the right amount of curry/coconut sauce. Sometimes Thai restaurants make the the mistake of making sauce too runny or too thick. Not Ayuthai, their curry sauce had a nice consistency and it had enough heat (not too bland and not too spicy). Also, the vegetable spring rolls were very good. Accompanying them was a nice plum sauce which entertained my taste buds with an interesting little "kick". Ayuthai, you get my vote for the shoreline's best Thai food. read more

Ayuthai doesn't look like much from the outside, but this place serves some amazing thai food. some of the best i have had in ct. i am a vegetarian and finding places that have so many options on the menu for me is always a good thing and it makes it easier to come back and try more from the menu. i started with spring rolls (they were predictably great) and an order of the Pad Ped String Bean for lunch.. something i have never had before but it was delicious. I get green curry everywhere and this one was very different. The sauce was... chunky? Very very green? I wasn't nuts about it or the heat level. Pork was a bit chewy and rubbery. Meh. Jungle curry had a better spice level, but still a "meh" in terms of brightness or complexity. It's not the best but serviceable if this is your town. read more

I used to really enjoy the food at this restaurant. I'm hoping tonight was an unusual experience due to being unsettled after their recent move. Our curry dish was diluted with far too much coconut milk, and the crispy fish was anything but that, and the sauce was far off from what I'd come to expect. It seems like it must be a new chef. This place has been a solid mainstay in Guilford. My good friends used to live up the street. We ordered take out quite a few times. Eight years later, it still serves as my go to when I am just too tired to cook dinner. The food is always good. My favorite is the Basil Eggplant. I always add in some tofu too. It is just so good! They do take a little bit longer than some other places I have been. I am not saying that is a bad thing. I would like to think that it is because it is popular and they are taking their time to make it extra yummy. For two entrees and an appetizer, they usually tell me 20-30 minutes. The estimated time is usually spot on if you are trying to plan and coordinate. Overall, good Thai food from a reliable, consistent establishment. read more

The food was excellent but the compliments stop there. We walked in close to 830 when the website said the restaurant closes at 10 pm. We were kind of pushed to sit in the bar area, which was fine, but it gave us a clear shot of what the waitresses did while not serving customers. Apparently we were an inconvenience to the wait staff since we were never asked if there was anything we needed when the food was brought to us (had to ask for sauce), refill on our water (had to ask) and never once checked on us to see how our meal was after it was brought to our table. Instead we watched them play on their phones (loud video clips on social media) eat, play with their hair (and not wash their hands after) and talk as if they were hanging out at the bar where they were sitting. Our appetizers were brought to us by one of the wait staff as she was leaving, jacket on and all, and again we were not asked if anything was needed. While eating our entrees we were able to hear them in the dining room what sounded like them doing handstands against the wall and then vacuum the dining room and right behind us. By this time it was about 910 pm and we sat with our empty plates and had to ask for our check. The manager excitedly asked how everything was and we said the food was great but the service was horrible. I explained all that happened and was told sorry. As we got our check the girls came and apologized and explained that it was because it was late. I guess only the bar is open until 10 but dining ends at 930 according to them. Understanding nobody wants to work late but it seemed as though, still leaving 20 minutes before dining service ended, nobody wanted to work at all. To actually use the excuse that they were trying to close was hilarious because they had no problem hanging out and not do their actual job of serving customers. I've come here many times and never had an experience like this even on a Saturday night. I really hope this has not become the norm. For appetizers and dinner costing over $40 I won't be in a rush to dine in again anytime soon. read more

We were a big fan of this place for years. It moved recently and combined menus with another restaurant and unfortunately the food was not as good. Don't know if they were just working out the kinks of the new location but my dinner was just ok, my husband's seafood platter had very limited amount of seafood, and the restaurant no longer has the ambiance it used to. It was cold in the place and the tables were old and sticky. Hopefully they will focus on improving and getting back to the way things were. read more

I was really surprised to find this little jewel in Guilford. It was convenient and we were tired and hungry. The ambience was calming and the food smelled good. There were quite a few guests in the place. The service is friendly and helpful with answers. We ordered the spring rolls and dumplings, pad Thai, a beautiful fish filet with red curry sauce, and shrimp Laska. It was all delicious, and prepared to our taste. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. read more

This is one among our top 2 favorite Thai places in CT and we don't mind traveling 25 miles for having food from this place. The place is well decorated and the service is good but the main attraction is the food which is delicious. I love their pineapple fried rice and coconut ice cream. My husband has tried drunken noodles, chicken appetizers and most of the meat based fried rice and curry options and like all of them. I being a vegetarian find many options in their menu unlike other Thai restaurants nearby and am glad about that. My only negative point is that I am not a fan of their vegetarian appetizers and would be happier if they add more options. read more

I have no idea what happened to the food after their move to the Maritime Grille location. I've been going to the original Ayuthai for over 10 years and never had a bad meal. The quality of food was fresh and delicious. We went to the new location, and it was a nightmare. The place smelled bad, the carpet was filthy and the table was sticky. if that wasn't bad enough, the Pad Thai noodle was unrecognizable. I was served spaghetti with brown gravy, it was inedible. Tom yum soup was dishwater, chicken satay was dry as the stick it was on and the Massaman curry had no carrots or potatoes! Again, dishwater. So, so, so disappointed. If this place lasts until Christmas, I'll be surprized. I'm sad to say I will never go back, and tell my friends and family not to bother. read more

When I travel from New York, I always search out ethnic food on the principle that even C+ Thai is going to be better than C+ American. How many burgers and salads and omelets can one person eat? Ayuthai is not just average Thai; it is excellent. And the quality of the food is matched by super and super nice service. The vegetables look and taste fresh; the proteins look and taste like what they are meant to be, and the food is seasoned well (spicing as you desire). Yesterday, basil chicken with plenty of chicken (hooray!); today roast duck with broccoli in a brown cocoanut-milk gravy (goodness on a plate). Portions are filling although not overwhelming, prices are more than reasonable, and it tastes like well-prepared idiomatic food. And the service is attentive and charming -- from the genial owner down to the waitstaff. I'm having lunch there tomorrow before I drive back home. Most assuredly yes. Ayuthai might not be a reason for me to drive two hundred miles' round trip, but I will visit it when I come back to this area for sure. And there's no reason to complain about the parking! After over a decade of superb meals at Ayuthai's old location, I've had my last meal due to the atmosphere, service, and overall quality of food at their new location at the Maritime Grill. Atmosphere--dark and dank. the new location literally stinks--the 'air fresheners' used in the bathrooms literally 'perfumed' the eating area, overwhelming the taste of the food and drink. Service--no sign of the old Ayuthai staff in front of house. Instead, a surly waitress seemed put out when we wanted to order from the Ayuthai menu instead of the Maritime Grill one. She then disappeared for over 15 mins, despite only having 6 other patrons in the entire restaurant. Instead of taking our order promptly, she chose to chat with another (idle) waitress and had to be flagged down. Food and drink--Determined to give the new place a fair shake, we ordered. But food took forever to arrive and when it did, was somehow blander and blah now, nothing like the old place. Sai was not tending bar that night and staff couldn't/wouldn't say when he would be in. The Maritime bartender did not know what Sai did to make his cocktails so special. Is Ayuthai is there in name only? Neither location was a bargain, money-wise. But at least the delightful hospitality, food and overall experience of the old Ayuthai were worth the slurge. I'm hoping they can relocate to a place of their own again and bring back the magic of a once wonderful restaurant. read more

We went there on a Saturday for lunch and place was pretty empty, most likely for a lack of a marketing, bad outdoor look and not a great location. Sin-sational Thai food. 2 visits later and I can't get enough of Ayuthai. I'm so obsessed with this place. I love the fact that everything on the menu is so reasonably priced, that no one ever rushes you, that well known names make the wine list at less than $30 a bottle, and that you can order 4 delicious appetizers, 5 entrees, 3 dessert's, a bottle of wine, and 2 beers for $150 bucks. BOOM. My all time Thai fave, massaman curry, is done exceptionally well here. I also highly recommend the "crispy fish" dish...ask for it spicy and you won't be disappointed...drunken noodles with shrimp is another must try. And you absolutely, positively must not skip on the mango sticky rice for dessert. That stuff is what dreams are made of. read more

Runs a bit bland for my tastes, but I doubt the average Guilford restaurant diner could really deal with my tastes when it comes to jungle curry, so I forgive the chef that. Service is always friendly, even to my kids, even when they aren't at their best. The weekly live jazz is nice, if really out of place. Outside of jazz night, it's possibly the quietest restaurant I've ever eaten at -- you can hear every fork hitting a plate... By quite a bit, better than the other Thai place in town. read more

I'm very lucky this restaurant is so close to my house! Best Thai on the shoreline. Sunday nights have an amazing jazz band that really sets the mood. Otherwise, I usually just order take out! My husband and I have eaten here several times, and the food is delicious...if you like Thai food this is one of the better places to eat in the area. Food is always fresh, staff rocks, the flavors are great...oh and did you know they deliver?!?! So awesome, we have gotten deliver twice from here and they are accurate with their delivery time and the food comes hot hot hot. We've had the Fried Dumplings, some fresh non fried spring roll (can't remember the name but it was refreshing), Garlic chicken, the Spicy Thai Fried Rice w/ Chicken, The Massamum Curry w/Chicken, the Panang Curry w/Beed, and the Spicy Beef Tom Yum Noodle Soup (a dinner portion)...all awesome! They also have brown rice here, and really great sticky rice. Parking extremely limited, but a lot of people either park in the parking lot next door, or in the lot across the street. Not a fancy place, but there is more of an upscale local crowd that dines here. A band plays on Sunday evenings which is very loud, but fun...get there early or make a reservation b/c they get packed there Sundays! read more

There is a Full bar with decently priced wine and drunken noodles that you can dip spring rolls in. If you need more than that I don't understand you. But if you need more I'll let you know - Thai food is hit and miss on the shoreline of Connecticut, and the hit is Ayuthai. I'll be coming back. read more

I loooove Thai food, and this place holds me over when I'm home. My family rarely gets takeout, but when we do, we get it here. They do deliver, which is unheard of around here, and thus awesome, but we've always just ordered and picked it up, and it's always ready as soon as we get there. This place was my first rendezvous with tom yum, and now I just can't get enough. We also like to order a bunch of entrees, all yummy, and share. When I woke up this morning, the last place I expected to be at this time of night was in CT. However after our ferry was cancelled and 95 turned into a river, this became the only viable solution after caulking the wagon failed. See you tomorrow block island! Hope we make it before the nuptials... Back to the restaurant. Our first waiter took our drink order and then was never to be seen again. Literally I think he my have been a guest playing a prank on us. The drinks were apparently difficult, especially the two glasses of wine which they may have been crushing grapes in the back which would explain the lengthy delay. The food itself was delicious and well worth the high yelp rating, however the fact they served us in two courses was odd - and by that I mean the two ladies were served our main courses a good 15 minutes before the guys. I'm all for keeping chivalry alive, but seriously? In summary, good food and very friendly yet interesting service.
