Pros: Affordable Menu. Cons: Horrible food and decor. Portions are small. Food is not authentic at all. I hate to give such a negative rating to a place that I've only been to once. Why? Part of the reason why I hate doing this is because I like giving people and places second chances to redeem themselves. I work in the restaurant industry, and I know that food quality can vary from time to time, especially given the variables of different chefs during different visits, etc. But the only reason why I am giving this place such a negative rating is that the food was not only poor, but it was not even authentic! I ordered the Pad See Ewe (Flat noodles stir fried with garlic, brocolli, carrots and tofu) and my friend ordered the Chicken Coriander (Cilantro) dish. Both dishes used the same base sauce of soy and sugar. Basically, our dishes tasted the same, and it tasted like we were eating Teriyaki, and not Thai. Pad See Ewe is a dish that is sweet soy based, but it should not be made using sauce made from Chinese soy and sugar. Pad See Ewe should be made using Thai See Ewe sauce, which is a thickened (think molasses) sweetened soy sauce that has been reconstituted over and over. Chinese soy sauce has a dominating robust soy/wheat flavor, whereas the Thai does not. The Chicken Coriander first off shouldn't even have a soy base. It should be made using garlic, cilantro (which the dish didn't have) and nam-pla or fish sauce. The chicken used in this dish was rather inferior; it was chicken that was either left over from the previous night before, or it had been dried out for some odd purpose. It had the consistency of jerky. I am not sure why everyone here is giving Ayutthaya five stars, but it could be due to a bad chef that has no idea what they are doing, or the chef all you guys are raving about is gone (or you guys could be on crack:). Bottom line is that the food was so bad that my friend and I went down the street and ate at the Mediterranean Express because we couldn't eat our food. read more

This was my first Thai experience in Seattle, and it was very promising. Casual atmosphere, inexpensive, quick service, and open on a Sunday night - who could ask for much more? I had a small tom yum soup and the drunken noodles with pork. Warning: small soup here is not a small soup in my world. It was absolutely delicious, and as I was compelled to finish it, I took most of my entree home for lunch. The drunken noodles were even good on reheat, although I ordered them a 4/5 spicy, and they felt more like a 2/5. My friends got a massamun curry and the pud thai, which they both enjoyed. The only negative thing I can say is that the green tea I ordered for $2 was a tea-bag. I should know to ask next time, but I was assuming i was getting fresh tea leaves. I dined here for lunch yesterday because I bought a daily deal. My measuring stick for a good Thai restaurant is how well they make Phad Thai. So, this being my first time in, I had to try it out. I ordered the lunch special of Phad Thai with chicken satay. My friend had the panang curry with tofu. the food came and first thing I noticed was the color of my phad thai didn't look right... almost on the purple side. tasting it, ketchup was definitely the dominant flavor... blech! Also, the light garnishing of peanuts was so finely ground that they essentially disappeared when I gave the tangle of noodles a toss and sadly, it did not add to or distract from the overwhelming purple ketchup taste. The tofu in my friend's panang was overcooked to the point of it being difficult to chew. Why turn something tender into leather? The only redeeming part of the meal was that the tea I ordered came in a nice little pot.... that's it... sigh. sad to say that the half price on my daily deal was more than I would pay for eating here again. read more

I wasn't very impressed with this place. Location wise, it's convenient, but parking can be a bit difficult. Had the fried wontons, a chicken curry dish, and I think it was the heavenly beef. Wontons were over fried, the wrapping was kind of tough. The curry wasn't anything special and they definitely dumb down the level of spiciness. I came here first while looking for property with a real estate agent. I was pleasantly surprised. The food here is cheap, is served fast, and cheap. The quality of the food is pretty decent as well. One thing you have to be careful about is that this place isn't that accurate on the stars for its spicy meter. You can sometimes order a 2 star that tastes like a 4 star and vice versa. So I suggest it's better to be safe than sorry and go a little lighter, or just make sure you let the staff know that you can or can't handle hot stuff. I can't think of any other Thai places within walking distance of Ayutthaya so this place gets an automatic 4 stars for being so close to Honeyhole, so that whenever Honeyhole gets packed, I can walk down down the street to Ayutthaya to get my Thai food on. Went here last week with a friend. She had Phad Thai and I had Green curry with tofu. My dish was wonderful, i couldn't get enough and i was glad that i ordered my tofu fried, it was a nice combination. The dish was very flavorful. However my friend's Phad Thai wasn't great at all and she ended up sending it back.. it had an overwhelming taste of ketchup For her i would say 2 star, for me, 4 star, so in between that is 3! read more

I had been to this restaurant for a few times in a year, however, last time here was probably my worst experience with any cuisine I had ever had. No offense, but they changed the chef, charged ridiculously high for just little Green Beans and Calamari, seriously? 3 bites each person for 3 person servings? And the Pad Thai noodle was over cooked and sticky. Tasted too much fish sauce. What comes worse, we ALL had diarrhea, my friends were worse because they as well had fever the next day. (Not making up story) the upset stomach last for 2 days and still on, we had pills from the doctor, that was the food from this particular restaurant!!! We should have sued!! Note* When it comes to bill, it was nearly 70$ but if you pay cash, they deducted 10%, you can guess how much they had hidden the money from the tax bills. And no receipt to us in the end. Ayutthaya is a solid place for Thai food on the Capitol Hill / First Hill border. The restaurant is clean and charming. On a cold rainy day, it's a comforting warm refuge. Staff has always been really nice. And the lunch crowd move in and out of the restaurant fairly quickly. The food has been consistently good. I've been going there for about 3 years now and I've never had any problems with a dish. Here are some of my staple favorites: Chicken Larb, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, crab friend rice and their curry. Their chicken larb is authentic. Tart from the lime with a nice kick from the chili and red onions. The chicken is tender. Their pad thai is good. I often find it bland at other restaurants. When you get it with shrimp, they're cooked well and fresh. The pad see ew is very flavorful. The wide rice noodles have a slight char to them. So you know it's been cooked hot and fast. Their crab fried rice is loaded with crab meat. I was surprised when I first ordered it. Their curry is really good. I had a catfish special once where filets of fried catfish were drenched in red curry. The curry was creamy with coconut milk and the catfish had a nice crunch. I recommend Ayutthaya for thai food if you're in the area. read more

I want to like you Ayutthaya. You are close to my apartment and I love Thai food. 1st visit: -Put chicken in my soup when I said tofu (I'm vegetarian so that is gross to me). They replaced it but still took some time to get a new soup. Charged me for extra chicken in the soup. -The boyfriend and I both ordered another round of beers but they never came. Granted we weren't charged for them. -Slow service. 2nd attempt: -Delivery: Hour and 15 minutes, food very cold. 3rd visit: -Soup was good with no chicken -Fried spring rolls were good -My 2star Pud Thai was SO INCREDIBLY HOT I couldn't eat it. I love spicy food, I can handle 2 or 3 stars. This was easily 10 stars. I was crying after each bite. I made it through 5 bites or so when I had to stop eating it. The boyfriend got 3 stars and his was very hot as well. I asked for a box and some white rice to take home explaining that it was incredibly over spiced. Server was nice about it, didn't charge me for the rice. Took it home tried to mellow it out with the rice..still too hot =( -Again, service was slow and disorganized...people who came in after us and/or ordered after us got their food first. My rating is based on a recent visit, last Sunday night. Went with a couple of gfs. We've been there before the renovation so it was nice to see the new furniture and the full bar. Glad that the food was still as good as I remember though I still prefer few other Thai places in Queen Anne. I have similar issues with the their spice meter. I ordered 1 star, it was nothing! I have to order 4 or 5 if I go next time. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, still tasty. Had the garlic tofu with veggies. Dish is not huge, just the right size. If you are looking for huge portions, you'll have to order 2 dishes or just more appetizers, I was not over-stuffed so that's fine. Few areas where we were very disappointed for this visit: Waitress never gave us a wine/drink list. our entire meal took almost 2 hrs to complete (we looked at our phones). We arrived at 8:07 and didn't get out til 9:48pm. Everything we ordered seemed to take forever to get to us. Everyone was gone by the time we got our bill, even people who arrived after us. We didn't do any "special" orders so not sure why except the waiter said the kitchen was backed up but why did others get their food first if they ordered after us? I I had to walk up to the bar to pay because no one was paying attention. One of the waiters was texting. The waitress was not paying attention, think she was at the register. Because the kitchen was behind, they gave us a $10 certificate to use for next time, was that enough to compensate.....at first I thought that's nice, now I think really????? Well, if my friends hadn't insisted on having lunch here, I would have been perfectly happy to pass up what seemed to be one more chance to have a regrettable meal in which I dream of the tasty alternatives I could have spent my calories on (instead of wasting them on mediocre food). After all, the storefront and the decor are plain and chintzy and nothing to write home about. The food, it turns out, is scandalously good. I say that because I now get a secret smile on my face when I remember the Thai Special Chicken. Two of my friends swear by the Pad Thai Lunch Special (which includes two satay chicken skewers). Everyone else has loved everything they've ordered. The service is friendly and our food was ready in less time than it took me to write this review. Ahhh, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Three Tips: (1) portions are a normal size (that's too say, you won't be able to stuff your face and take the extra home--something I'm ashamed to admit that I love doing) but if you're extra hungry you might be disappointed; (2) The food wasn't spicy enough--usually I order a three because I like to feel the fire on my lips as I eat, but here the four is still nothing scary. I was craving Thai food as we've been eating seafood all weekend long (amazing seafood). Delivery arrived within the estimated time, but upon opening the goods we realized that they didn't provide us with any utensils. Not even napkins. Normally, I would not be this annoyed if we weren't staying at an Airbnb place. We ordered beef salad, Tom Yum soup, and chicken skewers. The beef salad was pretty good. It was good until I found a hair (not mine) entwined in one of the beef slices. Yuck, I know hair is just hair but yuck. The chicken was on the dryer side. And my Tom Yum soup was the biggest disappointment of all. At every Thai restaurant I go to, this soup is a must order for me. However, this did not taste like Tom Yum. If you are anything like me, then cheap take-out Thai is a staple of your diet. You want the food to be tasty, fresh, just-spicy-enough, and available within 15 minutes of a phone call. Ayutthaya has never disappointed. The panang curry has copious amounts of fresh basil and is never too peanut-y. The portions are always generous enough for leftovers. They will even make your Thai iced tea to go! This isn't the kind of place where you journey out of your way for excellent Thai (try Thai Tom's), but if you're already in the neighborhood it is a solid choice. read more

I've only ever had the Pud Thai here, but I think it's pretty decent Thai food. I would say that sometimes the texture of the noodles seem a tad overcooked, but the flavor is really good (I order 4 stars). I could do with a bit more chicken though... My friend ordered the BBQ chicken and seemed quite content with his choice. What I do appreciate is that they do have brown rice as an option and they offer it when they ask you whether you want any at all (i.e. it's not some item that you have to know about ahead of time to be able to order). They also have relatively fast service and keep your water glasses full (which is great, since I drink a TON when I order 4 stars). There's nothing wrong at Ayutthaya, but it's not earth shaking either. Three stars is probably more than fair. I ordered green curry, which is I know isn't crazy adventurous, but it's not pad thai either. I also like it's simplicity, and since I get it a lot of places, it's a good comparison. It was basically...normal. Not terribly flavorful - the only time I really got anything much was from chewing a basil leaf. I was asked how hot I wanted it, and I said they could bring it "pretty hot" but they probably took me as an American...and it came barely hot. Maybe he just misunderstood me. I'm always torn between asking for it "Thai hot" and playing it safe - I've overstepped my capacity in the past at some places. The beef in my curry was at least tender, if again, not terribly flavorful. The portion was of decent size. This cured my need for Thai food - but I would be tempted to find another spot before coming back, I suppose. Had to kill some time and was hungry - saw this place around the corner. I haven't had Thai food in awhile so I had a craving to satisfy. I went around 6:30pm and there were plenty of seats available. The place isn't too decorative compared to many other Thai places but the food was decent. The food came out quite fast, so that was good. I ordered a spicy chicken phad thai - 4 stars. One thing I've never seen is the egg thinly fry-panned then laid on top of the noodles. I used to come here a lot a few years ago when I first started liking Thai food. I don't know if they've changed or if I've just become more picky on my Thai, but I wasn't that impressed. We got the tofu red curry and vegetable pad Thai. Both really lacked flavor and were lukewarm. I liked that the curry had a decent amount of filling, but it was also really runny, like water. This is a great place to go for a quick lunch. Friendly staff and simple menu make it one of my favorite restaurants in the Capitol Hill district. The owner, Paiboon is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and will answer your questions and make suggestions if it is your first time to try Thai food. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes, and each one comes with complimentary soup: a simple light broth with flecks of pork and sliced thin cabbage. I usually have the chicken in green curry or the pad thai - both really good. I've never eaten dinner there so I'm not sure how much different the selection changes. In town from Cali for a few days and tried this on a recommendation. I ordered Tofu Pad Thai because it's a favorite and makes comparison with other places easy. The presentation was great, but the tofu was too chewy, and there were too many bean sprouts! Also, Pad Thai noodles are flat typically; these were thin and round like Italian angel hair. Overall, the taste was a bit flat. Service was good and the staff was friendly. I plan to give them another try and venture further into the menu - the heavenly beef looked interesting and has been recommended here on Yelp. read more

Just enjoyed a cocktail called Kissing a Tiger, dubbed Kissing Tiger Woods, along with fried tofu Pad See Ew. This shaken, but not stirred cocktail was light lemony and lovely. But our server explained and gave options based on our taste. I'm so glad we stayed. It was a large portion and perfectly spiced. I ordered what seemed like the tofu fried rice. I like spicy food but often times restaurants just sprinkle hot sauce on top and I can tell the difference when the pepper is cooked and infused into the meal, which is exactly what was done to perfection! I didn't get to finish my meal and I took it back to the hotel to pick at while getting ready since we had a decent amount of time before the ceremony. The pud see ewe is amazing, but that's the only good thing I can say for this place. Some of the items on the dinner menu contain pork without saying so. As far as spice level, these guys either add way too much when I ask for a 3, or serve it without any if I ask for a 2. In addition, the waitstaff are sour and will give you attitude for no reason. Seating is also awkwardly spaced and uncomfortable. After giving this place three chances, one of the things above always stops the experience from being remotely enjoyable.
