These unfortunately did not appeal to me. My husband and I shared the blueberry cheesecake chimney cake. If you don't know what it is, the cone resembles a cinnamon roll in taste and texture, although super doughy, and they are stuffed with ice cream/custard, plus toppings. They look very pretty online, but they taste quite artificial and syrupy. Nothing special in the end. Rather dull. We didn't finish eating it. I just don't think it's worth the huge number of calories. Plus it's incredibly overpriced, add over $9 each. I really wouldn't recommend this place. read more

(I have only ever had the chimney cakes here, so I cannot comment on any of their other food) If you've never had a "Chimney Cake," you may have no idea what this place is about. I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend in Prague several years back and had "Trdelník" from a little cart. The weather was freezing and the cart was warm due to the cooking fire, which initially drew me in, but then I was curious about what they were cooking. (This is sometimes described as a "spit cake" ... don't worry, it is not that kind of spit: the dough is wrapped around a cylinder and rotated over a heat source to cook it evenly on all sides.) In Arizona, I think most people are familiar with churros. These pastries are kind of like a cross between that, a waffle cone and a croissant, especially if you get one with cinnamon sugar on it. They're warm, flakey on the outside and tender on the inside. It has been many years back in my memory, but I am fairly certain AZ Chimney Cakes makes them better than the ones I had in Prague. So, they do the "base" pastry amazingly well -- and you can just order a plain one if you like. That's a good start. Where they go a step above is that they let you pick a filling, a coating, and toppings. The menu has many options and you can make up all kinds of combinations. Fortunately, they have some suggestions to get you started if you're at a loss. I tend to stay simple with the cinnamon coating and a basic filling. I like both the gelato and the Bavarian cream fillings, though the latter is very rich and I have to split it with someone. I suggest starting with a Barcelona and then Munich, but do whatever works for you. Did I mention that they're made fresh to order? They may take a little extra time, but they are SO worth it. Each time we have been into the shop, the people have been friendly and helpful, making suggestions and checking on us after we received our food to make sure everything was to our liking. I've been wanting to go here since I moved to Mesa! I learned about Chimney Cakes when preparing for a trip to Europe that got canceled due to COVID, but thanks to AZ Chimney Cakes, the wait is over and it was worth it! I am a self-professed dessert queen and this was a surprise. While they traditionally come without anything inside, these can have ice cream or cream fillings which I would think it would need. But, after eating the ice cream out of the shell, I was shockingly surprised at how amazing the shell was all by itself! Crunchy and sweet on the outside and yet chewy on the inside. They're made fresh, so they take a little time, but totally worth it and they're WARM! The service was friendly and helpful too. I can't wait to come back and bring my hubby and some friends. We came here recently since I've been craving one of these cone like cakes since a trip to Mexico a long time ago. While these are originally from Hungary, I remember the street vendors in Mexico with these types of desserts and I loved them. I truly wanted a basic chimney cake but since I had a promo, I figured I'd get one with ice cream. I ended up getting the Bischoff kind which had ice cream inside of the cone and I think it was lined with caramel on the inside. It was so good. We've had this place bookmarked for ages but always seem to be too full to stop. Tonight the husband and I agreed to just split something and finally give it a try. Great plan! She filled us in about their process and all of their great options. We settled on trying the Munich: a cinnamon sugar chimney cake with house made Bavarian cream. Oh my my, it was fantastic! The warm cinnamon sugar cone was absolutely to die for, set off perfectly with the not-too-sweet Bavarian cream. As noted by others, they do give you too much cream. (Since when is that a problem, right?!) So we dumped our cream in the cup and kind of dipped and spooned the cream. You can either rip the cone apart in coils to share or chomp it like an ice cream cone. I'd really like to go back and try it filled with gelato. We enjoyed the open ambience of the place too - filled with large photos of iconic European locales. Gets you wanting to travel again, for sure. We really enjoyed the friendly service too. read more

I couldn't help but notice the delectable display case of additional goodies when I initially visited for a chimney cake... yep, had to come back! While the chimney cake was an interesting concept (I do suggest trying one!) I'm surprised their variety of baked goods are not as heavily advertised, because they are REALLY good! What first caught my eye were the gigantic cinnamon rolls that could easily feed 4 off of 1. Generously smothered in frosting- very tempting! But, what really hit my curiosity was the one cookie labeled "special". I asked & was told it's actually a carrot cake in the form of a cookie! Very unique twist... so I had to buy & try. And, it was surprisingly very similar. The general flavor of a carrot cake, just with the consistency of a cookie & a drizzle of cream cheese icing across the top. It was rich, so I split it in half- actually so rich I ended up splitting it in quarters & it took me 4 days to consume just one (which, the flavor & everything lasted well). It was a little heavier on the spice side, but seriously unique & something I'd order again. The ultimate test to gauge a true dessert shop is their standard chocolate chip cookie. This did not disappoint! It's a step up from your basic- much larger. Plentiful chunks of chocolate, crisped edges with a soft center. Also large enough to split into 2-4 servings! This is definitely one of the better ones I've tried in comparison to competitors. The prices are just a little steep, though. I will absolutely be back to try more (can't get over the cinnamon rolls!) and because I want to try the ice cream version of the chimney cakes... but their baked goods are a hidden gem that I'd highly recommend grabbing to-go for later if you're already there solely for the chimney cake. You won't be disappointed either way, but it's a treat no matter what you choose. Extra bonus is the nice seating options both inside the store & out in the well designed leisure area across from the theatre. Parking is easy & plentiful- this is a good location. read more

I tried this place with a few friends after leaving a movie at Cinemark. The staff was kind and patient, offering to explain the menu to us if we have any questions. I ordered a few cookies and the Cherry Pie Cheesecake. The cookies were delicious. The cherry pie filling and cheesecake filling were good but the chimney cake (is that what it's called) left something to be desired. I'm not sure if it's intended, but the cake part was extremely doughy as if it wasn't fully cooked. On a trip to Romania years ago, I fell in love with chimney cakes. It was love at first bite! Since then it's been so difficult to find anywhere that sells them. Then AZ chimney cakes came into my life and I was able to fall back in love with them! Talking with the owners, they also visited eastern Europe and got to love chimney cake so much that they started a business to make them here. So glad they're making them here in Mesa! When I was in Romania, they would slow cook them over coal and put honey and nuts on the outside. Absolutely delicious! AZ chimney cakes does the same but will elevate it with various creams and ice cream within the cakes. It's a gluttonous dessert that has such a delicious sweet crispy but also slightly doughy filled to the brim of whatever filling you want. So delicious! With this trip we went with the Munich which is a chimney cake with cinnamon and sugar filled with bravarian cream. I love the chimney cake with the bravarian cream but I do feel it's a little overkill with the amount of cream. Personally I wouldn't mind to just dip the chimney cake in the cream to enjoy the cake more. Regardless of my opinion, it's very tasty and you can't go wrong with it. They also have various smoothies, coffees and pastries too. Something for everyone! Love this place and supported them back when they were a good truck. We wanted a treat and was browsing through Facebook to find this location in which, has Dairy free products which, was a huge plus for me as I'm allergic to dairy...(no, not lactose but allergic... there is a difference)! Anyway, I bought the Facebook advertised strawberry dole treat which, came inside of a cinnamon pastry- like cone. I wasn't ready to lick it down right away, as I wanted to enjoy it once I have eaten supper so I asked them if they could put it in a bowl. The staff went over and beyond and did even better by separating the ice cream from the pastry so that, I could put them together when I was ready. They warned me that the pastry comes warm so it would be better this way to avoid melting sooner. GREAT IDEA!!! We ran a few more errands before returning home and once I put the ice cream inside of the pastry, it was still tasty!!! I even warmed it up for a couple of seconds and it was the perfect treat.
