This place is a joke. Pep Boys 1230 n military hwy norfolk, VA 23502. I called and made an appointment yesterday for a state inspection, oil change, and oil filter change. When I went to drop the car off Theresa said I would need to leave my vehicle with them for three to four days because they had a backlog of about ten inspections to be done. Really? I asked her why they allowed me to make an appointment and she said that even though I called the store directly I had been sent to a call center that was not local. read more

This experience has been a nightmare - PepBoys will schedule the appointment online and take payment - the service provided as reported by my wife was okay - not great - and when they were finished I was sent a link for payment even though I provided information for payment when I booked the appointment - then I was double charged for the service - my wife returned to the store within 20 minutes and spoke to the tech (Matt) - he explained the second charge should fall off but he did not know how to fix it - Matt provided the name of the store manager and advised to contact him on Monday - the charge never fell off - I went to the store (Norfolk, VA) and was told the store manager was out on medical leave and there was no other supervisor - no one to help - really - I've contacted customer service several times and I'm still waiting to resolve this issue. It would be one thing if it were a charge less than $100 - but we're talking more then $1100. read more

I should have read reviews before making an appointment here...that part is my fault. I have to say, I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one that has had this ridiculous experience trying to get a simple oil change. Appointment was at 2pm. There was another customer in front of me when I got in line and he was helped by Theresa. Another employee, Bryant, was back and forth between the bay and front desk then finally calls me up. I get out that I had an appointment, he types something in and then goes back into the bay for 3-4 minutes. While he's out there, the phone started ringing, and when he came back, he goes straight to answer it then proceeds to help that person. Theresa had come back up by this point and was on to helping her third customer before my car's checked in. About 30 minutes ago, Theresa came back into the waiting area to let me know their lube tech broke down, they haven't forgotten about me and the techs in the bay are working to pick up any slack left by the absent lube tech. Had a 12pm appointment for a tire repair. Took 4 hours. While I sit in the waiting area, hear the counter guys not do so well when it comes to customer relations. There were many other upset customers waiting in the lobby for simple work. Terrible service and customer relations. Never coming back again, guarantee you that. read more

I'm not sure how to rate this, my car was there for 2 nights, once I had called to check on the status because I never received a quote, Turned out they called a number I did not give them to contact me....the job was done in less than an hour after I said yes to do the work (still charged for 3 hours labor, which I understand) My question is, was my vehicle locked when it was outside? Why does it smell like stale beer and stink? Oh I can tell you why, these two disgusting cups that weren't mine were spilling stale beer and cigarette butts all over the back of my van. Put my car in for an inspection took them over five days. Finally I had enough went and got my vehicle. There were at least 10 Amazon vans in the parking lot so I figured they must have a contract with Amazon and keep pushing me back had another vehicle inspected which took three days $280 for Horne and two lightbulbs I will never go back to them nor recommend them. Called today around noon to see if they could do an install of an alternator. It's a pretty simple question, either yes or no. The man who answered the phone stated "the sooner you bring it, the sooner I'll be able to work on it" so I tried kindly restating my question, if they had any open appointments today. He responded again "the sooner you bring it the sooner I'll be able to work on it, thank you" and then hung up. Again, that answer isn't a yes or no and before I tow my car there I need to know whether or not you can work on it today so I'm not wasting my time or money. I called several other places today who said they couldn't fit me in today. No harm no foul, and I wasn't upset. Why this man felt the need to be rude and vague, I'm not sure, but there's too many other places to take my money here. I rarely do a negative review but this one cannot be helped. I have used pepboys several times for my vehicle needs but this was my absolute worst experience. The store manager there, Michael Anderson, is the poster child for Rude, despicable customer service and beyond poor attitude. If I could, I'd give this location a minus 5 star rating. After paying for my vehicle online and arriving for its pickup and explaining to him that I had already paid for the repairs, he began with "why would you think it's paid for? Things went downhill quickly fro9m there. There was a glitch in pepboys system that failed to record the transaction. Michael failed to follow up with corporate, even after I presented him with the text I received from pepboys and the paid confirmation. Such individuals reflect poorly on this business and the military community they serve. This caused a lengthy delay in my retrieving my vehicle at a time that I could ill afford. If I were the undercover boss of this company, Michael Anderson would be needing a new job where customer service and contact with the public is not required. Update: I am still without my vehicle. Pepboys cannot figure out how to process a payment made on their site from a link for payment that they sent me. So, at this point I am without the car AND $1,104.95 and no contact from "senior management " which was the response from pepboys corporate customer service. I'm due a refund for Multiple days of lost use of my vehicle as I am a real estate broker that has been Grounded because of this incompetence. Dropped off my car early on a Friday morning for a simple state inspection. Shouldn't have taken anywhere near as long as it did. Friday: not ready. Saturday: got a text that implied it was ready. Went to pick it up but It wasn't. I went home without my car. Sunday: my car was finally ready to pick up on Sunday afternoon. The cost was ridiculous and there is absolutely no reason it should have taken 3 days for a state inspection. They need to learn to prioritize tasks and not take on more projects than they can handle. read more

I truly can't even begin to describe my nightmare with this place. I went yesterday 1/8 to get my tire fixed because I had driven over a nail. They told me they could get it fixed same day and I could pick it up later. They called me to get my car about two hours later and immediately I knew something was up. When I got back to my car my sensor told me that it had no air in it. But I put air in it and trusted them because they are the "professionals". I woke up to my tire being completely flat and I called them immediately. I was told that my car was fixed but I know I was lied too because it obviously wasn't. The guy Anthony told me he personally saw my car being fixed when the whole time it was never fixed. The nail was STILL IN MY TIRE! They never even looked at my car! He was still lying and saying he saw my car get fixed until I came up there myself to show pictures of the nail in my car and asked to see proof of the repair. It was absolutely dangerous and disgusting. They sent me home the first time without even looking at my car! Imagine what they do to others?? I'm so lucky I wasn't hurt driving my car like that. Even with an APPOINTMENT, make sure you have nothing else to do if you come here because you WILL BE sitting be there for a minimum of an hour for something simple . My 2011 Ford has always used 20-weight motor oil, the manual says to use 20-w oil, this place tried to convince me that this make a d model required synthetic, which would have turned a $35 oil change to almost $100 had I not told them they were full of it a d walked out. Sad attempt at an upsale. If you put synth in, you can never go back to standard oil, wonder how many suckers for life they managed to convince. read more

Went in and waited about half an hour in line to be told my scheduled appointment time had "no guarantee" for when it would be completed and I had three others in front of me. What is the point in making an appointment if services won't be completed until hours later for an oil change. Seems like bad business if appointments get made but can't be serviced in an appropriate amount of time. read more

This was a whirlwind of an experience, to say the least. I had so much trouble figuring out what rating to give this Pep Boys since my visit was all over the place with both good and bad experiences, but finally landed on a 4-Star since the good outweighed the bad in the end. If you schedule an appointment online it WILL NOT SHOW UP on their schedule. I was quoted $45 for a new tire on my Honda Civic + $22 in installation fees, ($67 total). I got there and he didn't even have the type of tire I needed, or even that I was getting a new tire at all. He only had my name, but assured me that he'd fit me into the schedule. He then informs me they don't even have that tire in stock because it's discontinued, and tries to sell me an $85 tire. I guess he could see the frustration on my face because he quickly said he'd "take care of me" and discount the tire, which in the end he really did. He ended up bringing my entire total down to $40, that's tire + labor at just $40. He knew I was trying to sell the car so he hooked me up! Jason is a great dude who will really work with you if you keep your cool and not flip out on him. He really hooked me up and gave great customer service despite the longer wait time and my appointment not even showing up for him. read more

Took my car in to replace brakes. I had an appointment for 8am. I got there at 755 and there were 3 people in front of me. I didn't get to the counter until 820. Once I turned in my keys, my car didn't get into the shop until about 915. After seeing whay exactly I needed, they started replacing brakes around 950 and I was out of there around 1200. Though it took a long time to first get seen and the actual replacement, I have to give a shoutout to Tamika who was working the counter. She was the only one up there, and though another person would have been helpful, she was moving as fast as she could, signing in customers, filing paperwork, and answering phones. Wish I would have checked this rating prior to going. My tire blew out and went there to get a new one. Was sold a defective tire that blew out on the highway. Also had them do an alignment which was also done wrong. Just disappointing and waste of time and safety. They did put a new tire on and fixed the bad allignment. SMH read more

Beware, what should've been an easy exchange of a battery turned into a five day ordeal. And that's only because I had it towed out of there and got it to a dealer that knew what they were doing. It started on Friday at Pep Boys located on Washington Street in Sarasota Florida. The GM's name was Paul, he instructed me to oddly go next-door to O'Reillys Autos Parts and grab a battery. That should've been my first clue that they didn't know what they were doing and/or they were lazy. Ended up being both. After telling me after installing the new battery that I had an additional problem that was the starter. He said the starter would be backordered for weeks, months he didn't know how long, but he ordered one. After talking to Sunset Auto they didn't seem to think that was a starter problem. So after five days I got a tow truck and towed it to Sunset Auto in Sarasota where within a few minutes they found one of the battery cables not attached. So after five days with a Rent-A-Car that cost me $300 and $100 tour charge. It took Sunset Auto less than a few minutes to find the problem and get me back up and running. On my way home I stopped in Pep Boy, to talk with and show Paul the GM about how they could've missed such an easy thing as not having one of the cables installed. Rather than taking responsibility he started blaming others, starting with O'Reilly Auto Parts and saying Sunset Auto had staged the photo of the cable not being attached. I asked him how ridiculous that sounded and about reimbursing me for my expenses namely the car rental for those five days at $300 and the tow charge which was 100. He just laughed and said we don't reimburse. I then asked for his district manager and he smiled and said that's information we give out. I'm not sure on other Pep Boys locations but never go to the one on Washington Street in Sarasota unless you have an abundance of time and money that you're looking to waste. read more

Pep Boys Norfolk, VA off of Military Hwy is a very inefficient and unprofessional business. I had my son's car worked on due to him being a student athlete at Norfolk State University. They had my son's car for over 90 days promising me that they were actively searching for a part that they said was not complete upon receipt. When I came to remove his car from Pep Boys, the work order was inside the vehicle and the battery was drained. Car was pushed to Bannister Nissan which is directly beside Pep Boys. Bannister Nissan had my son's car on the road in 4 days. Pep Boys refuses to pay for the battery that they clearly drained and didn't offer to replace all while having me call periodically to check up on a claim they denied without informing me. Stay away from this unprofessional establishment unless you have time and money to waste. read more

My friend had repairs done to his car this week, at this pep boys, because it wouldnt start. When he went back to pick up his car, he drove back home and opened the trunk to grab his PS4 that was in his gaming case, and came to find that it want there!! He went back within an hour to go figure out what happened knowing that it was stolen. When he asked how to make a complaint about it, they said that there was nothing at all that he could do and that there was no way to prove that they stole it!!!! If you want to have things from your vehicle stolen from it, then go to this shop!!! But be warned!!! Never will I go to this place again or allow people to. This Pep Boys is great. This is my store of choice for car parts and service. Three years ago they sold and installed a remote start system in my car. The guy was so incredibly helpful, it was great. I have purchased tires here, and had oil changes and brake changes too. The service is really great. Sometimes it can be a bit slow waiting to check out but that is usually because they take their time with each customer and don't rush you through. I have even heard the head guy behind the counter talk people out of expensive service that he thought was unnessecary. Don't hear that very often. I was there 2 months ago when I was having a problem with my battery. The same guy who put in my remote start came out to take a look at it. He went in to get a part, came back out, installed it and said "no charge.". I was so happy I went inside and picked up some supplies just because, and he helped me pick out a kit to re-do my headlights. He really pointed me in the right direction and I am really happy with the results. Overall, this is the best auto parts store in the area in my opinion. read more

So I'll be honest in saying I definitely waited until July 31st to get my car inspected. I saw that they opened at 8:00 a.m. and was there by 7:30 a.m. standing outside. I don't want to complain too much because maybe I was just in a bit of a crappy mood, but the employees of Pep Boys stood there and had great conversation until exactly 8:00 a.m. There was a pretty decent line behind me, but I was second in line and pretty hopeful. Well, by the time they opened the door, the man told me it would be at least 2 hours before they even looked at my car. Ugh sucks! If there was that big of a wait, it would have been awesome for them to let us know instead of hang out and wait right up until 8:00. I could have been on the road driving elsewhere. My check engine, and EPC light came on my 2012 VW GLI and I scanned it for codes I got 3 codes that pointed me in the direction that made me assume, with the help of the internet, that my oil separator on my VW GLI needed to be replaced and just didn't have time to do it myself so I took it into pep boys thinking they'd fix it, and find the issue themselves. Once I arrive they charge a $100 fee for diagnosing the vehicle, said they'd call within an hour once my vehicle was finished being diagnosed, I never received a call within the time frame so I called myself just to find out they finished diagnosing my vehicle, and told me they can't fix it, for me to take it a VW dealer. I'm already upset that I paid $100 for them to waste my time. So i didn't take it to a VW dealer because everyone knows they charge an arm and a leg. I take it to a real mechanic shop since pep boys is far from that. And when they ran the diagnostic the same codes that I originally scanned for myself popped up and they told me it was the oil separator like I already knew! And they also noticed one of my coils was bad. they replaced it for me super fast and reasonable pricing. Thank god for that! I WILL NEVER recommend pep boys, that was my first and last time ever going there. On top of that the customer service was horrible at pep boys, when I walked in to pick up my vehicle I told the worker, "I'm here to pick up my vehicle, 2012 VW GLI." And he just starred at me in dead silence for 30 second until I got uncomfortable and asked him if there is a problem and then proceeded to tell me he needed my last name. They took my money for the crappiest service and horrible diagnosis! Worst diagnostic ever. Worst mechanics, can't even troubleshoot the issue properly, and guided me in the wrong directions saying it was a sensor issue when it wasn't. Tell me they needed to get under the intake manifold. You're a mechanic shop that can't do extra work? Horrible customer service. Bad pricing, just pure laziness, they were eager to leave, get an easy pay day and not wanting to fix an issue. Oh I also forgot to mention when I originally arrived I told them my check engine, and EPC light were on and I gave them my symptoms to my vehicle which were rough idling, cylinder misfires, and minor loss of power, and they kept asking me when's the last time I got a tune up, if I put gas in my car, etc. as if I'd ever trust them to do a tune up after this shitty experience. Trying to make it seem like I don't do regular maintenance on my vehicle. There are better ways to ask certain questions instead of assuming that's the issues right off the jump without even seeing the vehicle. No thank you. 0/10. I came in to get my son's water pump replaced in his car. I knew he needed one before hand. I had shopped around and found a great deal so I brought my own part and wouldn't you know it the guy at the other parts store sold me the wrong one. Pep boys of course has water pumps on hand, however it was quite a bit more than what I had ALREADY paid at another place. But pep boys PRICE MATCHES! So I bought a new pump with them, the mechanic who had already started the job, had it done in a matter of about 30 min. He was great telling me they priced matched and doing the work in a professional manner. I will bring all our cars to this outstanding and professional crew. On another note they are extremely busy and I've had a state inspection take quite a long time so be prepared for this and plan it into your day. read more

I came in for what was supposed to be a 30 min oil change with a tpms check. Took about 2-3 hours. Didn't check the sensors at all. Just reset my light that came right back on after I left. Also, I asked them to check my fluid levels and now 2 weeks later I find out my car has literally no coolant. My reservoir I literally bone dry as well is my radiator. Never coming to this Pepboys again and am honestly debating on going to any every again. Too many shortcuts to get a buck. Part 2 this pep boys did an oil change and charged me for intake filters that were never replaced. Will be seeing the manager. read more
