SEASIDE HEIGHTS: we enjoyed hanging out at the Aztec Bar and leashed-dogs are allowed at their outdoor deck. Since Aztec is located right on the corner, you can easily get there without being on the boardwalk too long. It is a boardwalk party bar that was featured on the Jersey Shore TV show. Like Snooki, Brie always says "the party's here!" We met a family from Texas enjoying drinks and amazing views of the Ferris wheel. A great place to people watch, but we recommend taking your pup during less busy times when it's not as crazy. read more

I went to seaside for my 24th birthday, and I was denied a drink because I didn't have TWO forms of ID... TWO?! Hardly anyone will travel with two forms of ID that has your photo on it - to a bar of all places. I've been to The Aztec countless times and when my sister, Lori, was visiting from Cali recently, we stopped in again after walking the Seaside boardwalk from end to end. The Aztec sits right on the Boardwalk on the northern end. In the summer this place is packed and I mean hard to walk to the bar packed. But that's fun sometimes isn't it? I have sat outside for lunch on a crowded summer afternoon and that's pretty cool too, as one or two tables sort of jut out into the boardwalk so that a large part of the boardwalk crowd is coming straight at you. Great for "people watching"! But on this beautiful October day the place was empty, and by that I mean Lori and I were the only patrons at the bar! But they were open for business, so we had a few drinks and spoke to the absolutely gorgeous barkeep, Jessica, who I introduced to my SISTER, right away. Jessica was glad to have some company and we chatted the entire time we were there. The bar is attached to a rather seedy looking hotel that I don't believe I would ever be drunk enough to stay in. When you go go a bar and ask the bartender if he has Malibu Rum & the bartender says that he does have Malibu rum, you would think that behind his bar is MALIBU RUM. When I ask for MALIBU & Club, I am expecting to see a bottle of MALIBU in the bartenders hand. Nope. Apparently when you ask for a SPECIFIC alcohol, they assume it's substitute will do. Had the bartender said, no I do not have Malibu, but I have bacardi coconut instead, I would have changed my drink. Bacardi is syrup. I don't want syrup. I want malibu. This place is gross inside. I came July 2. Met up with a few friends. Before I arrived, the DJ'S laptop malfunctioned so there was no music from the DJ, just, idk, Pandora maybe. Horrible experience, my wife and her friends went there around 1pm today and she was denied alcoholic beverages because she had a Colombian ID showing she was over 21. The woman bartender only accepted US ids. This is ridiculous -- also one of her friends asked for a cocktail without alcohol and she was told that they didn't make it. Well not much to say about this place, we stopped at the bar during our visit to the shore, we decide to take a break from the beach & come grab some drinks , unfortunately u can't take the drinks w u to the beach...which kinda sucks since it was the reason for taking a break, but oh well I guess drinking on the beach is not allowed. Came on a Wednesday morning for breakfast with my mom, about 10:30 am. ONLY customers in there. Right off the bat, we are told they are out of sausage, bacon, and fresh fruit. No big deal. My mom orders eggs over medium with dry toast and I ordered 2 scrambled eggs with spinach and sliced uncooked tomatoes. After about 10 minutes we are told they don't have spinach. No big deal, peppers and onions please. While we wait, we set out on the task of finding a fork that didn't have unknown brown substance on it in fork him in middle of table. We get our food, and my moms toast is globbed with butter. No big deal. "Can I have dry toast please?". Girl takes buttered toast away and says dry toast will be right out. After waiting another 10 minutes my mom goes up to the counter with an expectant smile, and the lady gives her a rude "can I help you?" Uhhhh just that toast please... The lady walks over, grabs the cold toast with her hands, and hands it to my mom. Mmmmm very sanitary, thanks. My mom couldn't really eat her eggs because they were so over cooked with grizzly burnt edges. The brown, unswallowable kind. My plate was filled to the brim with brown scrambled eggs topped with so many peppers,cooked tomatoes, and onions that I could barely lift my plate. My boyfriend and I came here with his sister and brother-in-law over Labor Day weekend for an early evening drink. We needed two forms of ID to get in the bar, and once we entered, we were immediately surprised with how rundown it looked. The bathroom was horrifying. It seriously looks like it should be condemned. No toilet paper, of course, but that was the least of my worries. We also noticed how dirty the bar top was, after wiping our area with some napkins. We came here on the last night of our vacation and completely fell in love. We wanted to go our entire week, but the sign asking for 2 forms of ID swayed us. This review is for the Grille side. Been to the bar a couple of times and nothing noteworthy there. The grille side however was a perplexing experience. We ordered a Mafia grilled cheese and a Jersey Shore grilled cheese, one side of fries and a coke... $20+. The Mafia was fantastic! Excellent mix of gooey cheeses, bread was crisp on the outside, and even though it was very oily the sandwich wasn't mushy. The trouble started with the Jersey Shore. Even though they were ordered at the same time, it took at least 5 min longer to get the second sandwich, which meant he was done before mine even came. Then I didn't receive the fries I ordered and had to wait several more minutes for that. I ordered a medium coke, they have a fountain machine...that didn't come either and when I inquired they were less than friendly about soda coming from the refrigerator case...something I was not directed to when I ordered. All of that would have been ok if my sandwich had been any good, but while his looked and tasted like an artisan creation mine looked and tasted like a 5 year old threw it together. It had two slices of processed cheese, one white and one yellow, neither were melted or gooey. The bacon was under cooked and way too much for the sandwich size. The tamoto was paper thin and not fresh. Where his bread was thicker and perfectly golden brown, mine was thin wheat bread that was neither brown or crispy, just a soggy greasy mess. I couldn't eat it. When he complained all the girl said was "sorry". She made no attempt to seem genuinely apologetic, speak to the cook, offer us a new one, refund our money, or tell the manager. What was really amazing was that two of the same type of sandwiches, ordered at the same time, could be so drastically different in presentation, flavor, and edible-ness...they only had 4 people behind the counter and 2 where cashiers...it's not like there were several cooks on the line. And though there where two other tables awaiting food, they weren't slammed or super busy. We most likely will not be back given that it appears to be such a hit or miss, especially for the price. Where to start? The one star is for our bartender. I wish I knew her name. I've gone to Aztec once before and there's defintely a reason for that. Went tonight with my bf and his brother - all rode bikes for an hour+ before getting to Aztec. Anyone who doesn't ride bikes that often knows you'll walk a little funny afterwards. Well, that was reason enough for Rocco, the bouncer, to say my bf's brother will be kicked out soon because he walked a bit "weird" and must be on drugs. 20 mins later Rocco, who kept insisting on kicking him out for no good reason and after all of us exchanging some words, offered to meet my bf and brother for a fight at 3am. Ha! Good for you, Rocco. Offering to fight off the job. Shows what kinda guy you are, offering to fight your paying patrons off the job. Policing people around because your job allows you "remove" people because you have a "feeling". I totally get it if we were blacked out and belligerent, I used to bartend myself, but none of us were anywhere near close to being anything but overly nice. Meanwhile, Rocco was too busy to actually know anything anyway, having devoted the majority of his attention to flirting with the young ladies around the entrance. I (female) went to use the restroom before we left because they don't deserve our business, kicked out or not. The women's bathroom is two disgusting stalls - one filled to the brim with sh*t and the other doesn't lock so the main door is wide open to the bar for all to see. I had my bf's brother block the door to the men's single stall so I could go, while Rocco ran over again insisting he wasn't allowed to stay. Even our very nice bartender was extremely confused as to why Rocco wanted him out. Saturday night in Seaside Heights in late June and Aztec was empty, yet a toilet full of sh*t. A bar is a place to get drunk and "walk funny". Don't act like you're better than anyone else because your title is "Sh*++y Seaside Bar Bouncer". Aztec lost business tonight from a very, very loyal seaside customer. I'm just appalled, any other bar on the boardwalk is happy to have your business. Seaside is a place to let loose, not get patronized for letting loose. Oh, also, seeing how negative the rest of the reviews are and that I personally work in marketing and advertising, Aztec needs some reputation management because from the reviews your rep sucks.
