Customers lining up to order lunch.
    John S.

I was covering a couple of sentencings in federal court split by a lunch break. I didn't have a lot of time to drive downtown and grab a bite to eat, but was headed that way when I saw the Azteca truck parked across the street from the Idaho Capitol. This isn't anything fancy, but is substantial and served fast. The truck seems to attract a lot of state workers who walk from their offices. There's three picnic tables in thee grass park where the truck is parked on the street. I ordered a combination with two pork super tacos, rice, beans and a can of pop for less than $6. The tacos were double-wrapped with corn tortillas and the meat was flavorful. The people who run the truck are friendly and they work quickly to serve a large number of lunch customers.

Tuesday when several if us from work go to lunch... today, tacos! But where to go? Someone…read morementioned the one place I'd never been, what the heck, why not! A decent Selection of lunch menu offerings, I went with Chili Verde, pork in green sauce, eithucorn tortillas. We ordered chips and salsa, interesting because it's not complimentary as in so many Mexican places, is one hotter yellow sauce with pineapple, a typical medium sauce, and a mild, plus beans were ordered. The chips were gold, house made, the yellow sauce was definitely good, would probably be great on fish tacos, but the medium red was what I preferred with chips. Lunch arrived with the obligatory "hot plate" warning meaning it had bern in the oven. As always, I started by trying the rice and beans, v both were good enough I nearly finished them before even trying the Chili Verde. What was interesting here was I wanted to use the larger than average sized corn tortillas to get every bit of the verde sauce off the plate! Something, we were too busy talking to tell, was different. I don't ever remember wanting to sop all the sauce up with the tortillas before! Would I come back, yes, there is enough that looked interesting to return.

The menu has a few things you can order from burritos, tacos, tortas and other fun items. We ordered a Carne Asada Burrito and it has rice, beans, meat of choice & lettuce and avocado it was pretty good. We got some tacos as well and not sure if she mixed up another ordered but we were short 3 tacos on our order and that was a bummer.. I was really looking forward to them. Their asada, carnitas, el pastor were all really good and authentic flavor and loved that the pastor had the pineapple chunks as well. One thing I did dislike was I asked about chips order and it said $5 when I asked her if I can just have a couple, she was a bit confused and asked the lead there. Apparently they didn't have chips in their truck and had to go find them. That should have been my no thank you but I figured ohh let's give them a try. Once we got to our house and saw the $5 chips I was honestly a bit upset they were store bought nacho chips. Tacos are $2.50 I don't understand why chips are $5 and they aren't even like your traditional Mexican chips or something along those lines. That was my only downfall to this place but those are just chips. Their food was honestly good no doubt about it when we were ordering they had a few people eating there and a few to go orders. Maybe take them off the menu or make little baggies and purchase chips from a Mexican store or make your own tostadas..
