Tuesday when several if us from work go to lunch... today, tacos! But where to go? Someone mentioned the one place I'd never been, what the heck, why not! A decent Selection of lunch menu offerings, I went with Chili Verde, pork in green sauce, eithucorn tortillas. We ordered chips and salsa, interesting because it's not complimentary as in so many Mexican places, is one hotter yellow sauce with pineapple, a typical medium sauce, and a mild, plus beans were ordered. The chips were gold, house made, the yellow sauce was definitely good, would probably be great on fish tacos, but the medium red was what I preferred with chips. Lunch arrived with the obligatory "hot plate" warning meaning it had bern in the oven. As always, I started by trying the rice and beans, v both were good enough I nearly finished them before even trying the Chili Verde. What was interesting here was I wanted to use the larger than average sized corn tortillas to get every bit of the verde sauce off the plate! Something, we were too busy talking to tell, was different. I don't ever remember wanting to sop all the sauce up with the tortillas before! I love Mexican food (not the Tex Mex) almost as much as I love Korean food, however, trying to find a "really good authentic" Mexican restaurant in the Boise area has been challenging to say the least. I've been here for almost 2 years and the BEST Mexican food I have found was in Twin Falls. NO I do not want to go to Twin Falls to get Mexican food, especially w/ the price of gas now. I was searching online for a new restaurant to go to for lunch and for some reason "Garibaldis Garden City" popped up. First, Garibaldis, does not really sound like a Mexican restaurant, but after reading the reviews and checking out their website, I am thinking why not...can't be any worse than Andrades, Chapala or Barrigas. Went in around noon, not crowded, but again its gorgeous outside, and I like a relaxed atmosphere. We sat at the bar, our server (bartender) Michael (who is from San Diego) was great. We really didn't need any recommendations because I already had set in my head what I was going to order. We started out with the "salsa flight", 3 different salsas, 1 smokey hot sauce, 1 more chunky and a mango habanero" which all 3 were very good. I loved that there was actually some spice and heat in all 3. Okay, the Mango it grows on you, the more you eat it the better it gets. We also ordered a maggie on the rocks w/ Casa Amigos Reposado and a ranch water with the Blanco. I also ordered the Coctel Garibaldis, which is shrimp & octopus and the shrimp was nice and large and the octopus was a nice size, NEITHER was mushy, THEY BOTH tasted so fresh (enough to share). For our main, Chicken Fajitas and Carne Asada....I normally do not like the refried beans here in Boise at the Mexican restaurants we have tried, but these beans tasted like HOME, LIKE MY MOTHER IN LAW MADE THEM~! The chicken fajitas ...there was actually MORE CHICKEN than peppers which is a 1st...and it was huge slices and chunks. My Carne Asada, OMG, huge amount and it was so flavorful, I doubt I could have done any better. NOW, I am a tortilla snob and I make my own flour tortillas, but THEY HAD SERIOUSLY LITERALLY the best DAMN corn tortillas I have tasted in YEARS! They almost look like flour, but once you taste them, incredible. We (he) ordered the Coco Flan for dessert, I don't do dessert so I ordered the Casa Azul Anejo....met 2 women drinking Maggies, we agreed, if we are going to do calories, we are drinking them and not eating them...but in all, the SERVICE, Food, the atmosphere, was all worth it. Ok, first off, I LOVE Mexican food. Our go-to food in this house is tacos. Just ask my husband. Second, there are some pretty decent Mexican food restaurants, food trucks, and taco joints around in Boise and the surrounding areas., but we had not found one we truly loved yet. Upon entering, I will mention the hostess was not very welcoming or friendly, and I could tell she was a bit overwhelmed (lunchtime rush), but as customers, we're not supposed to see that. She didn't say two words to is or even smiled. Regardless, once we were seated, a lovely server named Jackson came to our rescue and made wonderful recommendations, got our drinks and checked in on us often. Ultimately, we ordered chips, a trio of salsa, and their yummy guacamole to start. I'm obsessed with guac, and I don't take it lightly. Many restaurants add way too many ingredients to their guacamole, pushing out the natural flavor of the creamy avocado, rather than letting it shine. Garibaldi's guac is just right! For lunch, and because we had never been there before, it was recommended we try their specialty, Molcajete Loco. So we did. It was next-level and had a beautiful presentation. The sauce was layered in flavor with a little kick to it. It came with chicken, beef, poblano slices and grilled cheese. This also cane with rice and beans and the softest, perfectly cooked tortillas (nice and warm) and fed us both, with leftovers to spare!! Trust me, we'll be back there next week. I have heard good things about this restaurant, but have never gone there. My wife, daughter, and I decided to try this restaurant and we were not disapointed. Our waiter was Anthony and the service we received from him was outstanding. We got the bottomless salsa and chips. They were incredible. Fresh, crunchy, and the salsa was to die for. My daughter got the three street tacos, al a carte, and said they were delicious. My wife got the two street tacos meal, with rice and beans. She said it was outstanding as well. I had the chicken tortilla soup, and it was delicious. There was a great deal of chicken. It was fresh, and hearty. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have made so many plans to go to Garbaldi's with some of my friends and they never stuck. Today, today our plans to go were going to stick and I was so excited about it! Garbaldi's has been around for a hot minute. It's right down the road from my house and it's been a bummer that it's taken this long for me to come check this joint out. Of course the night before, I stalked their menu online to see what kind of lunch options they had. They offer quite a few things that caught my eye so I needed to make my final lunch decisions when I got there. Everything sounded so good! I met my boss/ friend for lunch today. Walking in, the esthetic of this joint is very clean and simple, not a lot of color. The windows that were decorated were simple and fine lined. I liked the look of this place. The wood, black detailing, pretty light fixtures. Most Mexican joints in have been to are very colorful and vibrant which adds to the experience. So, it was quite unexpected to see such a different esthetic. I appreciate the classic simplicity of this venue. Trey served us today. He got drinks started for us. We worked on our salsa flight while drinks were getting made. My go to is a mango margarita at every Mexican joint I go to. And boy did my drink not disappoint today. That baby was nicely blended, tart and tasty! I love the tajin on the rim of my cup. My drink was beautifully executed! Trey gave me every ounce of that drink that was blended into my cup. It overflowed and I enjoyed every part of it! For lunch I ordered the 2 enchiladas with shredded beef. It also came with a gracious side of beans and a helping of rice. I slapped some sour cream onto the enchilada and it was so good! The shredded beef was so tender and flavorful. The cheese was perfectly melted on top. The enchilada sauce was rich in color and flavor, it enhance the flavors of everything. The rice, where do I begin, Fluffy, flavorful and delicious! I love rice in general but this rice was fantastic! The beans were savory and creamy. My favorite is mixing the rice and beans togther as a bite, so good! I can't believe I could have been coming here for long time and it took until now to stop in. My husband isn't a very adventurous eater so I'm stuck waiting for friends to try different spots. I have been better going out on my own and enjoying different foods. This joint is going to have to be one of them. Just coming by myself, getting another fabulous margarita and a huge plate of delicious Mexican food! Recently tried Garibaldis for the first time and it was a bit of a mixed bag. The good: + We were seated right away, the dining room was squeaky clean, and our server was kind + Our appetizers were outstanding. We got their guacamole and queso fundido. The guacamole is fresh, fabulous, and ample. It came with the unique addition of a sprinkling of pomegranate. The queso fundido was all indulgent cheesiness. I loved the addition of chorizo. Their chorizo is pitch perfect. The chips were warm and crispy. + The prices are reasonable. Two in our party of four got cocktails, two got dessert, in addition to two apps and mains all around and our total was $130ish before tip. Amazing! + The Mexican rice that came with my main was flavorful and the perfect texture. The less than ideal: + Three of the four folks in our group were a bit underwhelmed by our main dishes. I got the enchiladas vegetales. The vegetables in the enchiladas were a whole lot of celery, carrots, a bit of onion, and green peppers. It was overall not super well seasoned and just a bit bland. A bit of a bummer on the main dishes but would definitely recommend a stop by for drinks and appetizers (maybe make a meal out of apps?). read more

We came here with friends before the Boise Hawks game. Our friends used to live within walking distance. We came in the late afternoon on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated right away, but the place was not crowded at that time. There is nothing special about the outside of the restaurant. It is almost across the street from Memorial Stadium. The parking lot is very modest. Inside, it has the bright, colorful Mexican vibe. We were in a booth. Our server was very nice (I can't recall his name). We was professional, helpful, and attentive. The husband of the couple we were with and I both got the birria taco plate. My wife got the grilled cod fish tacos and the wife got a street taco plate. With got the salsa flight with chips as an appetizer (I don't believe there are complimentary chips and salsa). I enjoyed the birria tacos, rice, and beans. I enjoyed the salsa flight. My wife liked one of her tacos but she said that in the other taco, the fish was a little rubbery. I liked the flour tortillas with the tacos. They were lightly grilled and crisp. All in all, I enjoyed our experience at Garibaldi's. We had my wife's birthday dinner here, there was five of us and every one of us had a delicious meal, great margaritas and the staff was incredibly nice. Beautifully designed building; even the parking lot has fun statues to add to the motif. Lovely building entrance leads you to a classy check-in station, greeted by a smiling host. We were quickly seated as we had reservations for our party if 6 (highly recommend reservations on the weekend-place was packed). Unfortunately for us, we were seated next to a large party with several loud kids, which put a slight damper on our adult night out. Ordered the queso fundido and salsa flight to start. Queso was decadently glutinous, with gobs of cheese and chorizo folded into every bite. Freshly made tortilla chips could stand up to that weight most of the time. Salsas were a huge hit at the tables though the standard salsa was the crowd favorite. Mango / pineapple salsa was spicy but neither savory nor sweet hot, the hot salsa was more spicy than crave worthy. I ordered the Baja fish tacos. Amazing flavor. Fish was flavorful, tender and perfectly cooked. Chipotle mayo was the highlight and a perfect compliment to the slaw, pico and avocado. Two taco plate is more than enough, as those tacos were stuffed full of goodies. Sad part is the menu states tacos come with refried beans and rice. I got black beans and white rice with peas? I'm allergic to black beans so I was irritated that was served differently than advertised (I would have asked for refried or a side salad). I assumed that it was my oversight and luckily they were in their own bowl so there wasn't any cross contamination. The rice isn't your standard Mexican restaurant flair, but a nice twist....just didn't really go with the fish tacos. Flour tortilla didn't seem to be warmed up and rather thin, which took me by surprise, but overall a great fish taco. Husband ordered the beef enchiladas and found them to be bland overall and "just okay". The service overall was pleasant. The busboy who served our waters was the best part...totally service oriented, friendly and wanting to be sure we had enough water and utensils. Server was okay. We felt forgotten a lot as drink refills never came unless we asked for them and my ordered drink was completely forgotten and I had to ask twice. Since the server didn't come by often, it was quite a wait. Our server wasn't attending the large party next to us, so I was hoping for more attentive service. I've had my eye on Garibaldis for a while now and I finally decided to go on New Year's Day. I made a reservation although there wasn't a wait and we were seated immediately. The dining room was very clean, and had an upscale vibe with a bright ambiance that was very inviting. I could see myself having celebrations and birthdays there in the future as they have long tables that can accommodate a large party. The food was the star of the show and I was impressed by the appetizers as well as the entrees. For apps, I ordered the salsa trio with fresh tortilla chips and the bean dip. Both were affordable as well as delicious. For my entree, I ordered the Baja tacos (2) which came with beans and rice and it tasted fresh and light. My boyfriend got the tacos costeños which he was equally impressed with and could taste the quality of the steak. My favorite was the dessert which we got the churros that were presented in a cute churro cart with goat milk caramel and Mexican chocolate. Both the Carmel and the chocolate were decedent and a perfect way to end the meal! Lastly, our waitress Daisy was absolutely amazing and added to the overall experience. She was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and checked on us frequently. This was my second and last meal at this restaurant. The guacamole had all the perfect ingredients but was over salted. It was hard to find the chili in the chili rellano which was also too salty. Would have liked to ask the waiter about the seasoning but he didn't check back, was gruff and not welcoming. Salsa sampler plus beans were delicious! Main entrees we selected: chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, as well as a fajita platter and esquites corn salad. All food was brought hot, seasoned well. Great spot for a more upscale Mexican experience. The guacamole, while pricey, doesn't disappoint and there was some to take home it was such a large serving. Bean dip excellent and plenty of chips delivered. The ground beef enchiladas were solid and covered with melted cheese. Could have used more red sauce though and next time I will ask for some. First off they charge for chips and salsa that kinda rubbed me wrong as it's free in the majority of Mexican restaurants. That said, it was wonderful and about $6! Seems just a step above the others yet not crazy over priced like a few of these newer Tex Mex places we have popping up. This is just good old Mexican food! The ambiance is good, authentic Mexican music and the decor is super nice, so good job there. On 7/5/24, I visited Garibaldi's in Garden City for the first time with my dear friend, who recently retired. This is Garibaldi's Mexican Restaurant's fourth location. The original location is in Twin Falls. It has been a local favorite for 28 years. On Google, Garibaldi's has over 1,500 reviews and a 4.4 rating. Other locations are in Jerome, and Elko, Nevada. I didn't take many pictures of the interior. Just one when I was trying to test the lighting, as well as a photo of the front door. The interior is very nice, down to the rustic stone sinks in the bathrooms. There is lots of stone and wood, with black accents. Garibaldi's has a large menu with Guadalajara, Michoacán and Tex-Mex influences. We started off with an order of Guacamole & Chips ($15). I didn't get a picture of the chips, but they were freshly cooked and delicious! The guacamole was excellent! The portion size was generous, and it was freshly made. I liked that they tossed some pomegranate seeds on top, which not only looked nice, but complemented the flavor. The beautiful presentation which included three tortilla chips in the colors of the Mexican flag was a nice touch! We chose to get two entrées and shared. We ordered 2 Birria Tacos ($17) - braised short rib beef, blend of cheeses, cilantro, onion, consommé. We also ordered 2 Baja Fish Tacos ($18) - Wild caught cod marinating in olive oil, citrus juices, parsley, & spices served on a flour tortilla & topped off with cabbage mix, pico de gallo & chipotle mayo. We liked that you could choose between 2 or 3 tacos. The presentation for each of the taco plates was beautiful! I was impressed that each came with a different rice and beans. There was Spanish rice and a white rice flecked with corn kernels. There were refried beans and black beans. The Spanish rice came in a small pyramid shape. The white rice was in a rounded shape. Both rices were garnished with micro greens. Both beans were topped with fresh cojita cheese. We liked both rices and beans, but our favorite and the most flavorful were the black beans and Spanish rice. The Birria Tacos were excellent! They were full of delicious meat, and much crisper and more cheesy than most. The consommé that accompanied it wasn't remarkable. The Fish Tacos were very good. They were generously proportioned and made with cod. Next time, I would ask for a little more of the Chipotle Mayo, which I would've preferred if it had been a little bit more spicy, or some salsa. For dessert, we ordered a special, Lemon Tres Leches cake. We also ordered Chocoflan ($10) - Vanilla flan with layers of cajeta and rich chocolate cake presented with cacao nib brittle & passionfruit macerated strawberry. Both desserts were excellent! The Lemon Tres Leches cake was very moist and lemony. The Chocoflan was a refined version of the traditional dessert. Mechelle and I liked both desserts, but her first favorite was the Lemon Tres Leches cake, and mine was the Chocoflan. We also received excellent service from our server, Jonah. Visited for an early dinner recently. Greeted and seated right away. The interior is pleasing, clean, and quiet (of course not completely crowded at the time of our visit). The requisite themed music heard throughout, but not distracting at all. We both felt that the individual working our area (same room as the bar he was tending) was not very attentive. Took quite a while from taking our drink and appetizer order before realizing many minutes later he had not yet brought anything over. Once he placed our drinks down, he took our entree orders. He was a younger person, but could have paid a bit more attention (I assume he was an adult given he was mixing and serving alcoholic bevs). Not devastating to our visit, but an observation nonetheless. Appetizer - Guacamole & chips: Pictured in this review, the guac was actually really good. Nice, rustic (lightly chunky) blend and not that mushy, runny type. Nice touch of pomegranate kernels on top and a little cotija. The pomegrante kernels provided an interesting little sweetness to the avocado. The chips weren't overly salty and held up well against the guacamole. Nice presentation to start. Entree #1 - Enchilada & Taco Plate: Pictured in this review. Cheese enchilada and chicken taco chosen. Comes with refried beans and rice. Have to say the rice was the best thing on this plate. Somewhat sad to say that given the taco and enchi should have shined as the stars here. It was surprising to discover that pre-made hard corn taco shells (yes like the store-boxed type) were used here - we both expected more of an in-house touch (not necessarily hand-made here, but at least comal warmed and formed, or even fry hardened. The chicken used in the taco was good as were the refried beans in the side, but the taco shell itself was a let-down. Passable, but not desired or savored. Entree #2 - Carnitas Plate: Pictured in this review. The carnitas is served with the same rice & beans sides as mentioned above. Comes with a salsa verde and guac on the side (both were good). I asked for flour torts (included with the plate), but was served with corn torts instead (fine by me, carnitas can work well with either). Again the brand of torts used here is underwhelming. Obviously off the shelf type tortillas. I still of course ate them with the carnitas and fixings, but did not get that get "soft taco" taste and texture I expected with a nice plate of carnitas. The meat was decent enough, I do not mind a little bit of rendered pork fat as long as it is not out of proportion with the actual meat. Presentation of each plate was really nice honestly, but the proof is always in the taste & texture. Dinner menu is better than lunch, in my experience. Got the sampler, husband got the chicken chimi. Best part was the bottomless salsa and tortilla chips ($6) - comes with 3 different salsas and we added the bean dip. Lots of cotija cheese so if you aren't a fan, say something. Run, do not walk, to enjoy wonderful authentic Mexican cuisine. Wait Staff were excellent, very attentive and the decor ambiance was comfortable and not overdone. The Menu was extensive, and we started with an appetizer of the three tier salsas and fresh Guacamole. Presentation was eye candy, and delicious! Our dinner orders were Sopas and Chicken Enchiladas, and everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. After trying to find a great Mexican restaurant for the past five years, am extremely excited to end the search! This place genuinely has the best customer service of any restaurant I've ever been to. Every waiter and waitress is super attentive and friendly. We've never had a bad experience. The margs are great and they have a decent happy hour. This is our regular go to mex place! read more

The food is pretty good but not $20+ dollars per plate good. They don't charge you for chips but won't bring them out until you get your meal and at that point who cares about chips. Service is pretty good. Everyone is friendly. Restaurant is a bit strange. Don't really get a Mexican vibe in there but it is new and clean. My wife and I have eaten hear a lot. We tried it in 2024 and keep coming back and bringing friends and family. The staff is always wonderful and they make the experience awesome and enjoyable. We almost always start off with the Salsa Flight. The flavors are amazing. After trying the Pollo Asada either on it it own or as part of the Tabita Jalisco (big enough for two easily). Food and service were really good. Not your typical Boise Mexican restaurant and that's a good thing. I was planning on giving 5 stars except for a few minor glitches. Complaints; Trying to sit full sized people into smaller than average booths, Wabbly tables, Happy hour drinks not defined or labeled well, and charging a fee for using a credit card. Just add 3% to your menu items and then it won't seem like your 'nickel and diming' your customers. High hopes going in and disappointing reality. We waited for the dust to settle, literally speaking as they opened for service when they were doing remodeling and it was a construction mess and figuratively speaking as we know it takes time for even experienced owners to get things humming in kitchen and front of house. This Garden City location is the 3rd of a privately owned small chain, the others in Jerome and Twin Falls, and the buzz about them was providing good eats. But that was not our experience here. They have had plenty of time to get this dialed in now and I have no reason to believe it will get better. MENU & FOOD FAILS: The menu is standard Mexican food for American audience fare. It is a large one with dinner menu and some of the same items at a couple of dollars less on a separate lunch menu served weekdays from 11a - 3p. Based on our meal, food was disappointing. The menu said the esquites was made with fresh corn. Before ordering it we confirmed with our server that that was so. But it was either frozen or canned and arrives as soupy mess. It was woeful. (If you're looking for great esquites in the Boise area, see Amano in Caldwell and when they have it in season at Madre Boutique Tacqueria in Boise too.) Mole is typically my first order at any Mexican eatery new to us. After confirming with the server the mole was scratch made, I paid the upcharge for mole on enchiladas. The mole negro was very thin and tasted of too much cinnamon and it may have been scratch made but my instinct (given I've eaten a lot of these and make good stuff myself) is paste started but hard to tell because there was only a couple of tablespoons on the (over salted chicken) enchiladas and with the top buried in cheese (my bad to ask if it was cheese topped and omit if so). I'll given 'em credit for the refried beans and rice though, the best thing on the plate and since the plate was served literally sizzling hot (the server warned us not to touch them) the food was hot on arrival. (If you want great mole in the Boise area, try Amano's mole coloradito, the best I have ever had. Pueblo Lindo in Meridian makes a good mole negro.) The pork in the street tacos suffered from the same over salting of the chicken dish. There are lots of places in the Boise area to get mediocre tacos and this added to them. (Fantastic tacos of all kinds can be found at Madre Boutique Taqueria and Amano among others.) The food was attractively plated. Their house margaritas were good enough. SERVICE: Friendly and efficient server with welcoming personality but even he couldn't save the day for poor food. And it is a pet peeve of mine, having worked in this industry when dinosaurs roamed the earth, to have servers misinformed on ingredients and to pass the misinformation on to diners. FACILITY: This building was apparently another Mexican food eatery before it was remodeled and they freshened up the inside. But it is an odd sort of rabbit warren of rooms left and right of the entry. Still, lots of table options including booths and standard height tables and chairs comfortable for everyone to use so kudos to them for that. LOO: A his and a hers which I prefer over shared unisex so thumbs up on that. The ladies looks brand new inside so I assume the gents is too. PARKING: Private lot which is an advantage. Nice mariachi band sculptures in the lot. ACCESSIBILITY: Lot has ADA parking. Accessible walkway to and through the door. Several tables looked as if enough clear floor space for wheelchair user. All ADA and Idaho Access Code (Chapter 11 of building code) compliant. But a building code violation that is also an ADA violation is that (in the ladies' at least) the water faucets in the newly built loo sinks are set outside, above, the 48" reach range which would make them impossible for a diner in a wheelchair to use. The Garden City Building Department inspects for Idaho Code and how they approved it with that violation in 2023, 30 years after the code went into effect, is an infuriating mystery and in Garden City these access code failures happen over and over. read more
