My husband has commented on Taqueria Las Flama's having some of the best carne asada tacos around. They are conveniently across the street from his work. It's been a while since he has had their tacos so today for lunch he asked me to grab him some. It's my first time in this joint. Walking in, it's quite loud and fun! It's got music going. Many patrons eating and talking. There are bright colors and banners everywhere. It looks like a fun and vibrant venue to have a good meal at. I ordered at the register. The gal that was helping me gave me basic service. Your average customer service. I grabbed 4 carne asada tacos without onions and cilantro for the husband and the chicken flauta combo meal for myself. I grabbed a table to hang out at while my order was being made. I wanted to grab some salsa to go at the sauce bar. There wasn't any to go cups available so I did ask someone for some. She said she would go grab some for me and never did. My food finally showed up and I had to ask another gal for the to go cups. I finally got my sauces and headed out the door. First glance at the food, I was excited! Everything looked fresh and delicious. The cheese was melty on the tacos. The quac, rice and beans looked good in my to go plate. But looks can be deceiving. Unfortunately, the carne asada was so dry. Dry in texture and just tough. Like the meat has been sitting for a while and they just grabbed the top helping of meat instead of mixing it. We did add a good amount of lime to add some wetness to the taco but it didn't help. Out of 4 tacos, my husband only ate 2. The chicken flautas looked promising. The tortilla was airy and crispy. I wish I can say good things about the chicken. The chicken pieces were too big. You would take a bite and the whole chicken chunk would come out. It was also dry and unflavored. The only thing that slightly helped the flauta was the sour cream and quac. The rice and beans were pretty generic so they were good. I spent 32 bucks on this meal for us to only eat half of. I don't know what happened for my husband to say the tacos were legit a while back to end up ordering this mediocre meal today. So disappointed with every part of my meal. Customer service was ok. The food here is good but not great. The prices are a little high for the amount of food served with their combinations and kids menu. The plus is they have a decent Salsa Bar. The salsas actualy have a range, from mild to really spicy. All the salsas are good, if you like really spicy, there is a Habanero salsa which is good but spicy. La Flama is fast Mexican food. Compared to others, it was really pretty good. Is it a great, sit-down restaurant... not exactly. Service is pretty fast and we took ours to-go. Burrito plate, enchiladas plate and kids enchilada meal. All had rice and beans. My burrito came with guac, salsa and sour cream and was quite tasty and definitely filling. I ordered a Chipotle Chicken Salad, for $15?! I asked them what dressing they had, since the young male said there wasn't any on it. I found out, it was drenched in a gross chipotle dressing. Did not look like the picture at all. Chicken was paper thin, in strips on top, hardly anything else on it, like 4 croutons, no beans, maybe one teaspoon of cucumber and corn. I have visited this restaurant several times over the years. I do think they have good Carne Asada tacos. Until tonight, the rest of the menu items I've tried I've just been average. The reason for my one star review is that tonight I ordered the Quesa Birria tacos ($9.99) and a side of beans and rice ($3.49). I was shocked when I arrived back home and opened my bag of food. There are very few restaurants and food trucks in the Treasure Valley whose Birria tacos I have yet to try. These were unlike any I've ever seen before. They fit in a tiny box and clearly have not been cooked on a flat top grill. They were soggy and did not have good flavor, nor was the consommé truly Birria consommé. It was more like a tomatoey salsa. I took one bite of each threw them in the garbage. Basically, for $14.29, I got an order of rice and beans. If you can't properly make a dish, you shouldn't put it on the menu. This was by far the most disappointing meal I've ever had from a Mexican restaurant. No bueno! read more

So we were on vacation and wanted something to eat. We found this place online decided to give it a chance. I got there and it was in a large shopping center. There's plenty of parking. There was a drive thru so I was unsure of this place. There's the menu on top with some pictures and prices. My husband ordered fajitas and an horchata. I ordered a Coctel de Camaron. The price was about $34. I felt that was reasonable. There's a section on the side where you get your drinks. There was a cart where you could get salsa , lemon, hot sauce,salt, and radishes. You get a number and someone brings the food to you. I was pleasantly surprised my cocktail was full of shrimp and that taste was good. It had a little kick. It was filling custom service was great and the food was really good. There was a lot of people there. Great music and clean. If you live in the area should definitely be a must try. read more

I was optimistic when I saw authentic ingredients like menudo (not for me) and lengua (fantastic). It's also a good sign when some of the patrons are speaking Spanish. It was all uphill from there. We got 5 a la carte tacos here on Friday. Asada, carnitas, chicken and abodaba since they don't have al pastor. The asada had a great flavor to it albeit a tad overcooked, but still good. The carnitas was great, don't forget to add that squeeze of lime. I did not care for the chicken. It was greasy yet dry on the inside and I didn't like whatever they seasoned it with. My husband enjoyed the abodaba ones and felt there was a decent amount of meat in the tacos. They have a salsa bar, take only what you'll use. My husband tried to take two little cups and I said just take one, you can always get more, well, one was enough! The place is big enough for groups and looked clean to me (another Yelper thought otherwise), ample parking. They serve AWESOME food. I have had Mexican food from Texas to California, so I have high expectations. The dining room is nothing to brag about but the staff is great and the food is authentic Mexican cuisine. Their menu is extensive and the meats they use are always tender and flavorful. They definitely do not scrimp on quality ingredients. I come here for take-out or dine-in about once a week and have tried Carnitas Tacos and I always get Ceviche. The portions are big and the Green salsa is off the hook delicious!! I look forward to trying other dishes when I come back. One thing I'd like to see is someone needs to clean the tables and seats more frequently. I don't like to have to ask. GREAT FOOD! read more

Came here on Sunday night for what I thought would be a relatively easy experience and quick experience based on the fact they do have a drive-thru window. Walking in the place in barely moderately busy. Walk up and wait and wait to order my food then when it's time a lady cuts me off and starts ordering? The worker doesn't even acknowledge that the other customer did this and to make things worse eventually when it was my time to order didn't even apologize even tough they saw the whole thing go down. Then what made this more irritating is the wait time almost 20 mins for a few simple items all while they are cranking out the drive thru food... So finally home and starving I was ready to dig in, but if you know me or have read any of my reviews I always rate Mexican spots on chips and salsa first. After all that wait stale tasteless chips and salsa that wasn't that great either. My food was just ok I have the Aroz con Pollo and while it was still warm really lacked a lot of flavor and was pretty bland. My wife had the pork tamale and chicken enchilada combo and probably had the most flavor. I seriously was just not overly impressed based on some of the other reviews and maybe worth a 2nd try but that will be awhile from now. Too many other places to try... read more

I pull up to the window and there was someone eating in full view of the customers. I really want to know what happened to this place. I don't know if I'll be back. The service was nice and they were pretty quick with the food. The food was delicious. However, some of the items do seem overpriced for the taste and amount I received. I've tasted better in other areas and got a lot more, but I still come here for a few specific dishes. I highly recommend getting the Sopitos! My favorite every time. Our first choice for a Mexican lunch was closed, and Taqueria La Flama was nearby. I was hesitant because I thought it was going to be like Los Beto's (nothing bad, I just didn't want their food right now), but it wasn't - it was better. You walk in, the menu is up on wall behind the counter, you place your order there, get a number card to put on your table and they bring you the food. If you order fountain drinks, you get them yourselves (Pepsi products). Bathrooms are a spacious single, clean, with a sign that says they check them every 30 minutes and it would appear that was the case. Our entrées: Husband had the taco plate - there was a good amount of meat on the carnitas tacos, but the rice was salty. Son had the steak burrito - the burrito was good, filling, but the guacamole was very spicy, and the rice was salty. I had the asada fries - those asada fries are heart attack on a plate. But, damn, SO GOOD. The fries themselves were perfectly soft and greasy with a just-crisp outside, a substantial amount of carne asada pieces on top of the fries, and then gobs of cheese melted on top. I was full with less than half of it and asked for a box to take the leftovers home. Heated fries never taste good, but I put these on a plate and into the microwave and added some sour cream and Pace salsa and they were almost as good as they had been at the restaurant earlier in the day. I thought the prices were a tad high, but if we're in the neighborhood again, I'd definitely keep this place in mind. read more

Off we went. I got a Chicken Chimichanga with a Chicken Enchilada, and DW ordered a Wet Chicken Burrito. Our orders came out amazingly quick, but when we dug into our meals, it didn't taste like Mexican-fast-food. Good, simple Mexican fare offered at reasonable prices, ordered at the counter and delivered by friendly people to your table in a cavernous but sparkling clean dining area. Not destination dining for us, but if in the neighborhood again, we would return here. If you read no further than this, here's a tip: don't miss the salsa bar as it may be second only to Andrade's for good, incendiary salsa offerings. THE SERVICE & THE DRILL: Friendly people work at the counter where one orders from a limited menu of traditional offerings like tacos and enchiladas and burritos displayed on menu board over head. Find a seat in the dining area and some of the same friendly folks will deliver a basket of chips and bowls of salsa and queso to your table and, in what seems like a flash, also the food you ordered which is served on real plate not disposables. Hooray! No need to bus your own; they will also stop by to pick up your plates when you're finished. THE FOOD: We shared adobada tacos ($1.35 each) and a plate of two enchiladas verde that came with refried beans, rice, shredded lettuce and tomatoes ($9) which along with the chips and salsa left the two of us comfortably full for under twelve bucks. The salsa bar has about half a dozen choices that range from mild, the one served at the table too, to hot as Hades with most of them in the mid-incendiary range. Nice! Also some cabbage crudo, sliced radishes, pickled carrots and wedges of lime that can be used to customize your dishes as you choose. We were a bit disappointed to find the food offerings didn't include items with complex Mexican sauces like mole. (Andrade's is the place for those dishes and is the destination Mexican restaurant in Boise for us.) For my sodium content watching friends I also offer that we found our dishes very much salted, maybe too much, but that could just be a personal preference issue. THE VIBE: Dining and open kitchen were once home to a couple of fast food places and so both are really large. Walk in past the black laminate topped tables and booths with blueberry-purple vinyl seats to the order counter at the back. We loved that all the seating was standard height and no high counter stool seating to be found Hooray! We also loved the Mexican music on the sound system. We appreciated that the entire place was sparkling clean. Two TVs, one on each side of the room, were turned to different stations, one news and the one near the booth we sat on to an obnoxious animated program with adult content of things like masturbation jokes turned loud enough to hear it. For what it's worth, I'd leave the TVs off unless tuned to Mexican station programming to add to the vibe. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door, all on one level, clear path of travel to the order counter, standard height seating, accessible loo. The salsa bar is out of reach range, so people who can't stand to access it would need assistance. PARKING: Big private lot in the strip mall location for what was a fast food place. Inexplicably, the strip mall owner is in violation of Federal Law (ADA) and Idaho Building Code Access Chapter for failing to provide a single designated accessible (aka ADA) parking spot, let alone the several the code and law have both required since 1990 for a lot with this many spaces. HOURS: Open as early as 7:30a.m. and stay open until 10p.m. seven days a week. If so, think about all the hard work needed by so many people to keep it so! read more

Our family went on a Friday night and it wasn't busy in the restaurant. A few people trickled in and out while we were eating. The drive thru seemed constantly busy. I imagine that's where a majority of their business comes on the evenings. The employees are super nice and helpful. As it was our first time we asked for suggestions which she did with a smile. After we ordered and sat down we saw they had Horchata! One of my most favorite drinks. We went back up and asked to purchase a drink (as we just got cups for water) but she waved us away and said to help ourselves. So kind!!!!! The food was great and tasted very fresh. The Boise Valley has a large number of Mexican restaurants but very few stand out. Most serve up the same lineup of bland, Americanized Mexican food. Taqueria La Flama is breaking the mold. Salsas can make the difference between an OK Mexican restaurant and one that shines. Here, they have a salsa bar with several varieties, radish slices, lime wedges and a type of cabbage curtido. The best is a guacamole with a chile kick. It's the best salsa I've tasted in Boise. So far, I've tasted their tacos and a mulita, meat and melted cheese sandwiched between two corn tortillas. They are excellent. Although more of a fast food eatery, they deliver your dishes to your table and bring you a basket of chips, a tomato salsa and queso. [Edited] As of Nov. 1, they no longer provide free chips. They now charge $3 for chips and queso. Arctic Circle and Speedy Burger didn't last very long in this same spot on busy Fairview Avenue.
