Chapala! Chapala was a staple for my college years. They offer delicious Mexican food with solid portion sizes. Their fajita plates and carne asada are my go tos. I went to soak in the nostalgia this past year on a trip to Boise and can say it still has all the charm and great flavor I remember. The staff is always super friendly and have great senses of humor, often joking with and developing inside jokes with regulars. The dining area is always clean and well taken care of. Pros- Recently freshly painted with colorful Mexican murals on booth dividers & tabletops; beautiful! Fresh hot tortilla chips with chunky salsa & refried beans; very good! Large drinks come fast with frequent refills. In-house brewed ice teas. Server Moe is a favorite; Personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and relaxed. Special requests, not a problem. Food came out quickly; all hot & huge. Separate checks weren't a problem. Cash & credit payment taken at table, plus Moe brought us lollipops! Moe is a gem. Cons- Taco Salad was a bit bland & pricey. $2 extra for guacamole & sour cream, where other restaurants include them. No olives? Missed, but I didn't request after receiving the dish. A review on Google 5 years ago also mentioned salad needed black olives. Perhaps they don't read their reviews? Would I recommend this place? Sure! But maybe not the taco salad. read more

We live in Star,having recently moved from CA in June. We were in Boise at the Social Security office and wanted to grab lunch afterwards. We found Chapala and we were jazzed that it was within walking distance. We got to the restaurant a few minutes before they opened at 11 am. We were the first ones there. By the time we left there were three or four other parties. The decor has a coastal, Mexican vibe, with lots of colorful tile, murals, and art. Our waitress provided excellent service, though I can't speak to what it would be like during a busy time. They have an extensive menu. We both had the chorizo and eggs with rice, beans, and tortillas, and we thought the dish was very good. They have really tasty and spicy salsa, so we bought some to go. Since Chapala in Boise is 40 minutes away, we were disappointed that, if we wanted to return, we would have to drive so far. Imagine our delight when we found out that there are two Chapala locations in Nampa, one only 27 minutes and half the distance away from our home. We will definitely be returning to Chapala, whether in Nampa or Boise. read more

The Chapala on Vista serves the some of the best street tacos I've eaten. The carnitas were to die for, seriously the BEST carnitas ever. I got the carnitas, asada, and marinated carnitas (forgot the name of course), the meat was insane. So fresh and seasoned well. I've been to many different Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and they're a top restaurant for me. My sister's boyfriend is a regular here and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The food was so well priced, extremely delicious, and the service was very kind. We went on over a week ago and I've been yapping about it literally nonstop. read more

Carnitas de Jalisco was incredible. Super fast service. I ordered for pickup and it was ready in less than 10 min. As great as the entre was, I was a little thrown off at the quality of the tortillas. I was surprised to see tip already included in the price of the food. If I didn't catch that, then I would have paid double. There were only 5 of us, so it shouldn't have been added automatically. We've been coming here every Saturday for the last 6 months. The food is good and Moi our waiter is the friendliest, funniest and nicest guy we know. He always makes me laugh and I leave this Restaurant feeling good. They make the best salsa here and I love the warm beans that they also bring to your table with the salsa & chips. Today, my husband and I both had the Taco Salads. I like mine with lots of lettuce on it and salsa for the dressing. He likes his with guacamole and salsa. Great food and fast service! My wife and I were seated right away. Our food arrived very quickly, we only waited about 10 minutes after we ordered. I had the Carne Asada. It was very tasty, as good as any I have ever had. My wife had Beef Fajitas, also very good. The star of the show was the salsa. It was so good we bought some to take home! I decided to try this restaurant as I was craving some chips and salsa. The restaurant was quite busy during lunch hours but I had no problem finding a table. The inside was very spacious and had plenty of seating. The menu was quite extensive and had some really good lunch special prices. For lunch I tried the Beef Fajitas with fresh Jalapeños. The Fajitas were some of the best that I had ever tasted. The ingredients were fresh and the food had just the right amount of seasoning. The portion size was very large for the money. A couple negatives about my dining experience was that they only gave me two flour tortillas with my Fajitas. I had to end up ordering another side of tortillas which I was charged for. The other negative was that they only gave me one basket of chips. I had a second basket but they never told me that I would be charged on my receipt. I wish they would be up-front about having to pay for additional chips and salsa. The service was mediocre and the waitress was not very attentive. My water glass sat empty throughout my entire meal. The waitress never checked up on me once after receiving my lunch order. I might give them another try but they will need to improve on the service and the chip situation if they are to earn my business again. read more
