I heard about this from a friend of mine today. He told me it was very good. Mu wife and I drove there for dinner and we were very pleased. The chips and salsa were fresh and good. We asked for hotter salsa and it was good. My wife had the nachos with chicken. My wife said it was great. The meat was fresh, and the portions were filling. I was thrilled to find out my friend wanted to come here for her birthday dinner. My first experience here was fantastic and I was looking forward to another awesome dining experience here. We were sat at a round table which was nice. Round tables are great for small groups like ours, it allowed us to all be involved with each other which was nice. Our server was fabulous. She took our orders and had drinks, chips and dips ready for us! The chips are so good! I love the bean dip that they serve. The salsa is fresh and I love the little kick it has to it! You try not to over indulge in the chips and dip but it's so hard! Tonight I ordered the shrimp fajitas with an extra side of fajita veggies. The veggies were honestly my favorite part of the fajitas the last time I got them. My fajitas came out hot! The shrimp were plump and juicy! It was a generous portion. Unfortunately, I wish I was told that the veggies were differnt from the steak and chicken option. The veggies were great but it was too much celery and mushrooms for me. I was told next time that I can just have the traditional veggies that come with it. Other than that, the flavor was great! The combination of the soft flour tortilla, sour cream, guacamole and the shrimp was such a magical bite! Our server was kind and brought the birthday girl a fried ice cream which was so nice! After a long, cold hike, my husband and I were starved! He suggested Mexican food, and I thought of Barrigas. We each ordered enchiladas off the daily specials, which were red sauce. My husband got pork and said it was the best he's ever! I got cheese, and they were perfect! The enchilada sauce appeared to be homemade, as it had bits of vegetables in it, and it was nothing like what we buy. This sauce allowed the filling flavors to be the star of the show! Now it's pretty simple to make a decision on getting Mexican food in the Boise area. Barrigas all the way. I'd been considering trying it out for some time, but kept deferring to old standbys. I'm happy I gave them a go. Because my family is now there on the regular. The renovated space used to house a Chapalas back in the day. Now it's got dark wood booths painted with images of agave. Wagon wheel light fixtures complete the rustic feel. I dig it. But the food! I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that are able to maintain great food in decent quantities for a reasonable price. Like eveBarrigas delivers. My go-to at lunch is the enchilada and tostada combo. The cheese blend they use for the enchilada is sublime and you can choose your meat for both of the dishes. I go with the excellent carnitas on my tostada topped with pico, pickled cabbage and corn amongst other nice fixings. All for less than a $20 and I'm super happy. Service is snappy and polite. It's the kind of place If you show up enough, they just bring out your usual drink order. Nice. My kid doesn't ask for any other Mexican food but Barrigas. Food is mediocre at best. Chips and salsa are decent although the salsa is very watery. I had the Beef Fajitas. They were okay. I'd give them about a 6.9. Comes with two sides. I chose Corn and Refried Beans. The Corn was awful. Tasted frozen, mushy and bland. My boyfriend ordered the combination with a Chilli Rellleno and Chicken Chimichanga. He liked the Chilli Relleno. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Boise, second only to Amano in Caldwell, among those in the Treasure Valley. We like that both restaurants go beyond the typical American-Mexican fare from nearly every other Mexican restaurant in the Valley. My go-to dish is Barrigas's Huachinango, grilled red snapper covered with a fire-roasted sauce and served with vegetables, rice and seasoned corn. Great tamales! We got them to go after Christmas and before the new year. They were delightful and moist.

Good food made quickly. Had the carne asada salad. Simple and really tasty. Also had a tamale...it was cooked well and had great flavor.

There is no curb appeal to this place. It's a little hole in the wall from the outside. When you walk inside you will be pleasantly surprised of how clean & beautifully decorated it is. When visiting my daughter at BSU, being from CA we always crave Mexican food. It seems where ever we stop it always lacking flavor. This was the first time we were so excited about our meal! Chips and salsa were as tasty as anything you can buy in the supermarket and I could swear that the ingredients for my fajitas were flown in fresh from a refugee camp in Tijuana. We had lunch there on 12/6/23. The restaurant is clean and very nice. The taco shredded meat had a sweet taste, which was odd, and the tamale masa was very thick but had a good taste. The beans and rice were very good. The complimentery chips, salsa, and beans were very tasty. The younger waitress who seated us was very nice and made us feel welcome. We wish she would have been our waitress because the waitress that we had was, in my opinion, rude. I felt rushed, and she would barely make eye contact with me. This must be her disposition as she was this way on two previous visits. Other than that, the meal was good. 5 star food, but lower stars due to the lack of customer hospitality. read more

On 3/7/21, I visited Barrigas in Garden City for the first time. I was impressed! Everything from the food to the service and ambience were excellent. I ordered the following: Huachinango ($17.99) - Grilled red snapper covered with special fire roasted sauce and served on top of sautéed vegetables. This is a Veracruz style fish dish that I've never seen on a menu before. It is one of their house specialties. For sides, I chose rice and seasoned corn. The fish had great flavor, which was enhanced by the lightly sautéed vegetables beneath it. While I liked the corn, it didn't seem to have much seasoning except maybe a little butter. I loved the rice, which was very flavorful. Chile Relleno ($8.50). The flavor was every bit as good as the presentation. It was excellent! Pastel De Limon ($5.99) This was my first time trying this dessert. The flavor is slightly reminiscent of a lime flavored cheesecake, but much lighter. Inside, there are layers of thin wafers, which gives it a nice texture. Highly Recommended!!! read more
