Great Cuban fare. I like the Cuban cafes, black beans and breakfast. We eat here whenever we are in the area. Clean + friendly.

Always great food and service. Try everything especially the paella share with a loved one and still bring some home! Try both seafood and chicken. For lunch a Cuban sandwich half will satisfy and the rest enjoy at night or tomorrow! Do not pass the pastry section without trying the pastel or the brownies. The bakery gets 4 stars, the food was a solid 3.5, can't give it a 4 even though it had excellent service and it's good enough to want to go again but there are much better options and less expensive. Not that it was expensive (it wasn't) but it just wasn't my favorite. I have eaten Cuban food from so many places in the short time I've been here, this was a good choice if it's late and all the better places are closed. I had the masitas de puerco which unfortunately were mostly fat and not as much meat as other places I've been to. The rice was good, the beans were decent, and the meat portion was smaller than I'd imagine for dinner. I've gotten bigger portions from lunch versions of this dish elsewhere. The flavors were good but not a knockout. My favorite part was the empanada I had to start. It was the chicken and cheese and it was truly so so good. The minute you walk in to Azucar you will wonder if you are still in Cape Coral at all. Its cozy atmosphere including pictures signed by celebrities hanging on the wall, light piano ensemble playing in the background and intimate pastel-like interior reminded me of a restaurant one might see in a movie. We were immediately greeted and told that we could sit where we wanted. Our drinks came shortly thereafter. The menu was simple, but had an ample offering. I went with the day's special (shredded beef and 2 sides). My partner ordered the house sandwich (a traditional Cuban topped with Romaine lettuce, tomato and a thin slice of grilled steak). The beef plate was delicious. The tasty white rice and fried plantains were a perfect complement. In turn, I had the great fortune of getting a piece of what would turn out to be *the* best Cuban sandwich I have ever tasted. I have never had Cuban coffee before, and darn, was it delicious here. So delicious, in fact, that in my 5 day trip, I had it 3 times. What is Cuban coffee, you might ask. Sugar in espresso, sweetened as it's being brewed (as opposed to after). On top of the coffee, I also had the elephant ear pastries, which are sticky and flaky - just like they're supposed to be. 4 stars for an authentic Cuban restaurant from the moment you walk in! A more casual restaurant/bakery setting --- you have a bakery/to-go section as well as a sit down restaurant area (no outdoor seating though). I was only planning on grabbing a light bite to go, but once I came into the restaurant it was too cute not to stay for a little. Old-fashioned Spanish decor made up the dining area, with framed pictures of Cuban celebrities scattered about on the walls as Cuban music played overhead. Very simple overall, but true to what I believe dining in a restaurant in Cuba would feel like. I really just wanted to grab something quick, so I went with the Empanada De Pollo Y Queso and it did not disappoint! The empanada was the size of my hand and stuffed to capacity with super flavorful chicken and a melty cheese for a mere $3.95. The empanada shell did not crumble, nor was it too hard to bite into. Perfect balance! Their bakery display was quite inviting, so I had to try one of the desserts/pastries as well. I went with the Coconut Pastry, since I love me some coconut! The pastry was quite large, flaky, and sticky. It was just ok, nothing I would write home about. But again, very inexpensive. The rest of the menu looked super yummy and of course was filled with classic Cuban dishes at very reasonable prices. I snuck a peak at the table next to me and their sandwich looked hearty and delicious. The service was pleasant and accommodating. There was one girl working both the bakery and the sit-down restaurant. She held it all together nicely as it got a bit busier. The parking outside in a lot is simple enough, but the signage for the restaurant is a bit difficult to find off the main street. It's in a small strip mall off Del Prado and the name gets lost easily as you drive by. While I wasn't super impressed with their baked goods, I look forward to coming back and sitting down for a full lunch or dinner sometime soon! read more

The Sandwiches were HUGE (I ordered 1 for each person and 3 of us split 1 sandwich). We came too late in the day and most of the bakery items were one (sadly). We will come again! read more

Lets put it simple.If you are cuban and live in the USA you probably share the frustration of going to "fancy Cuban restaurants"only to discover they have anything but real Cuban food.Tamales ,very few offer,croquetas neither.Soft yuka ,dont bother.Dont take me wrong some of those restaurant are very busy and successful business(ex.Colombia in Tampa,Sarasota and Clear water ). They are relative expensive but very busy .People like it and im happy for them.But is not Cuban food.The roast pork is not even close.Almost nothing is like cuban.There is not even cuban people working there.If you are not cuban you dont know how we like to eat.So i give the restaurant Azucar the highest score.Because of the food,the people and the menu.If Celia were still with us and had the opportunity the eat there one thing come to my mind,She would scream "AZUCAR". First time here today and it won't be my last. I'm new to area and have driven by the place countless times without giving it a second thought. It's in a small strip mall very close to Palaco Grande. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The food was flavorful and the prices were reasonable. I would really give it 4 1/2 stars. The staff seemed a little confused or distracted, like maybe one of them was new, our drinking water was warm and we had to ask for ice, but the food overcame any minor issues, and they were minor. While visiting Fort Myers Beach, we found this little hidden gem in Cape Coral. The food was excellent, we had the churrasco, lechon asado and the milanesa de pollo. For dessert, we had the flan which was out of this world. Our 6 year old loved the food but really enjoyed his interaction with Annalis. Best Breakfast in Cape Coral. Prices are good and service is excellent. Clean and neat. Best coffee as well, both american and Cuban. Their lunches and dinners are wonderful as well. Maybe it's because it's been a while since I've had real Cuban food (let's not point fingers but there's a lack in a certain city of genuine Hispanic food overall), but this place stole my heart. The Ropa Vieja was just the perfect level of flavor, moistness, and amount at a cheap price!!! Ola! Well let me start this off by saying this. I come to realize I am not a fan of Cuban cuisine . I love Cuban coffee and the roasted pig. It stops for me there. I have been here twice. Both times the people and service are outstanding. Now to the food. The quality is excellent/ BUT the pastries are not very sweet and there is TOO much guava offered. Cuban sandwiches are just ham and cheese with a slice of pork. The bread though crunchy on outside and fluffy inside it is verrrrrrrrrry plain like wonder bread. I was adventurous and tried the Spanish omelet. It was terrible. It was like eating a pancake style omelet incorporated with ham & what I think was a chorizo sausage . TOO well done and arid to my taste buds. So I really did not enjoy my meal. Oh yes I did not ask for hot sauce. I tried what was on the table. Peso Pete I think a Louisianan style sauce. Tasted like a tobasco wayyyy too much vinegar. Oh yes they gave me these potato stixs. The kind that are in the can at the supermarket . THAT JUST PLAIN SUCKS . As a Cuban, I have never been able to find good authentic Cuban food, but when I stopped into Azucar the food was amazing. I had the pleasure of having Gaby as my server. She was constantly coming up and checking on me. Gaby refilled our drinks promptly and kept a good conversation with us even with the restaurant being busy. Disagree with this is the worst place ever. This is a restaurant that has pride in what they do. They have worked hard to provide service throughout this pandemic. There has been a sign on the door Now Hiring. With government offering unemployment, double food stamp, and you can't get evicted if your rent who wants to work. Stopped by while vacationing in the area. Picked up some quick items for a to-go bfast. The ham croquettas are cooked at the moment you order which beats other cuban bakeries that cook them early AM then sit there all day or even some from day before. They were fresh, very tasty and nicely warm. The cuban toast was just ok-the butter tasted a lil funky. The fresh squeezed orange juice is a must!
