Azukar Sushi is a very special place to me.Way back in the day when they were located on J street in the nightclub by the same name-they were a sushi spot during the day and a nightclub at night. But once that nightclub got shut down ,the sushi restaurant which was independently owned from the nightclub had to move locations and they relocated to W El Camino Avenue in South Natomas. Azukar Sushi was the very first AYCE sushi spot I ever went to in Sacramento-way way back during the J Street days. Through the years I would stop here again for the nostalgia and to be reminded of how incredible a few of their dishes have always been. Well this is a recap of my most recent stop. The cost of the AYCE dinner at this location is $32.95.It gives you access to everything on the lunch and dinner menu-made to order. These are most, if not all of the items I had that meal. Pacific Sunrise-This is my favorite dish on the menu-I ordered it multiple times-10/10 Item Seared Salmon Carpaccio-This is my 2nd favorite dish-it's so fresh and so yummy-highly recommend-9.5/10 Item BBQ Albacore-A true taste explosion-another dish I order multiple times-9.5/10 Item Hamachi Carpaccio-a pretty solid dish-a very light bite but still tasty-8.75/10 item Lion King Roll-my favorite roll on the menu-full flavored-9.0/10 Item Yummy Roll-Super Tasty but just a bit heavier bite-8.5/10 Item Salmon Lovers Roll-sounds better than it looks-I only order because I love salmon-7.5/10 Item Jalapeño Tuna Crispy-High expectations little result-too much tempura 6.25/10 Item Spicy Shrimp Hand Roll-my favorite hand roll served on the menu-so yummy-8.75/10 Item Shrimp Hand Roll-Pretty good just not as good as the spicy version-7.5/10 Item Nigiri Plate-underwhelming-expected more but the fish didn't do enough-didn't feel fresh enough-had a hard time eating all the fish served-5.5/10 Item Parking at this restaurant is plentiful as they share a lot with many other businesses including Raley's and Starbucks. In closing-I love Azukar in a way one would have feelings for a longtime friend that they barely see anymore-Is it the best sushi in the area?..No...Is it the fanciest sushi in the area?...No...Will I continue to patronize Azukar for as long as they are open-100% They are my sentimental favorite AYCE in Natomas. PS-I will say that Pacific Sunrise is easily my favorite individual sushi dish they offer anywhere in the area-it's so delicious-you have to come and try it if you ever make it to this solid sushi restaurant in Natomas. read more

I have always thought this is only an ayce restaurant. Instead, they do ayce and regular menu. Met up with friends for lunch here. We came right before they opened so there was no wait. I decided on a 2 item bento box with battered chicken teriyaki and spicy tuna sushi. Portion was huge. Chicken was overly fried. It was on the dry side. Sushi was good but tiny. Sushi Tuesday I got the spicy assorted sashimi, pacific sunrise, sunomono, caterpillar roll, spider roll, unagi, tako, inari nigiri, and miso soup. A different day on a Monday I got the spicy assorted sashimi again, wakame, hamachi carpaccio, hamachi, kani, tamago nigiri, rainbow roll, and dragon roll. I preferred the food and service on Tuesday than the Monday visit. There were a lot of people on the Tuesday visit but service was really great. The lady who helped me was really efficient and keeping checking on you. I was the only one on Monday visit but the lady who helped me seldom checked on you. I feel like food was not so fresh on Monday visit. What I liked: spicy assorted sashimi and liked it mixed with sunomono compared to mixing it with wakame, spider roll, unagi nigiri, rainbow roll, dragon roll Okay: pacific sunrise, I liked this but will get the sauce on the side next time, the sauce has an odd taste for me, caterpillar roll, inari nigiri, kani nigiri Not so much: hamachi carpaccio, hamachi nigiri, fish not so fresh, tako nigiri, tamago nigiri Place is spacious and clean. Love coming here for lunch! They have an AYCE menu dedicated from M-Th for a modified meal and then F-Sun it's the full menu. The F-Sun menu is 32$ while the M-Th is 22$. I usually get a bunch of nigiri. I'm not too fond of the tuna but the hamachi, eel, and salmon are great. The ladies that give the menus and serve the food are extremely nice and accommodating. Never miss a beat to fill our waters or see if more orders should be placed. Walking in the place is usually a bit busy even on my lunches. And upon entering the chefs always say hello. The place itself is clean. The restaurant itself is placed in a shady area, a lot of people loitering at the other businesses but it doesn't scare me off. All you can eat dinner sushi option - 36$ per person. The sushi is really good but they don't have a sashimi option. Instead we ordered fish carpaccio and that was amazing the hibachi was great but you can only order one time . The salmon plate was not goood! Too much excess stuff not enough fish. Got the teriyaki chicken with rice and this was a bit below decent. The chicken is dry and overall, does not have a lot of flavor. I did not finish it, but may try to to not waste food. Lunch time on a Sunday afternoon. No wait time, relatively empty. Fast seating. Fast and attentive staff. I don't usually post reviews but wanted to shout out Azukar this time around. It's my third time coming to this AYCE sushi spot now and super filling and happy. It's not the fanciest place but good for bargain and excellent cuts of sashimi if you're looking to get your sushi fix. They have a spectacular variety of rolls but my family didn't pay attention to them much as we were very impressed and filled by their yummy hand rolls, sashimi platters, carpaccios, tempura, etc. Excellent and fast service too. Super happy and satisfied. Lastly, we ordered the sesame balls. I'm Asian and I've had a great many sesame balls in my time but these were just the right softness and sweetness when I bit into them to round out the meal. We went in for my daughter's birthday as a party of nine around 6:30 on a Tuesday. They were pretty busy but the customer service was pretty good. The food was great although the seaweed was super thick and made us gag. Other than that we really enjoyed the food. The poke nachos are awesome! All you can eat was fast! Went to get AYCE on a Tuesday afternoon and there was no wait. The AYCE was 22.95 for lunch. The place is really clean and has a lot of parking spots available. The service was fast and attentive for the most part. I felt like there was more rice on the nigiri than other places but the sushi itself was good. We also got 4 rolls, I can't remember what all 4 were but the rainbow roll was good. We came to this place not knowing it was AYCE. I was really craving sushi and was hesitant to sit down and order since past AYCE sushi places weren't all that great. Decided to order their nigiri, ahi nachos, 4 different sushi rolls (forgot their names, sorry). To my surprise, the fish was fresh and good quality. My partner ordered the nigiri and he said it melted in his mouth and tasted fresh. I ordered the sushi rolls which were delicious! Each roll has its own distinct flavor which I appreciate and the fish was fresh as well. They don't skimp out on the fish and has a good rice to fish ratio. The ahi nachos were bomb!! The sauce they drizzle on top complimented the wontons chips and tuna pieces so well. The service was also amazing! Servers were fast at taking drinks and taking our orders. The food came out quickly as well! I was impressed at how fast the food was prepared. The server came around frequently enough to ask if we wanted another round of food. The only downside was that we kept having to ask them to refill our water and they didn't come until several minutes later (we were eating during rush hour and every table was full, can't judge them too harshly for the wait time). Overall, servers were super friendly, accommodating, and even wished us a good night as we walked out the door. I would definitely come back again and I highly recommend this place! Stopped by Saturday for a late lunch and had a very good first experience. The place was clean. We were promptly greeted and the sushi started rolling in. Waitresses were on it. They were not personable at all, just flat however, they were very attentive and prompt to bring our orders. We were very pleased that they were letting us know which rolls they were dropping off. Other places just drop them off and leave. Idk what they are. So it was nice. Overall the place was chill, maybe we just got lucky. We are not sushi fans but go for the bento boxes. The three of us ordered the teriyaki chicken, one with vegetable tempura and two with mixed tempura. The boxes arrived with all items served hot and appealing. Sadly the chicken meat was chewy and dry. The sauce helped a little. Service was nice but I don't think the waitress understood what I was talking about when I pointed out the dry chicken.
