Came here for lunch and they have a really good lunch special: 2 rolls with soup for $15 The restaurant is nice and clean and the staff is friendly. The presentation was really nice esp for lunch. I ordered the salmon avocado roll and the shrimp tempura roll. It came with miso soup. The miso soup was tasty with the right amount of seaweed and tofu. The salmon roll was really good. Saloon was tasty and fresh and the avocado was ripe and creamy. The shrimp tempura was also really tasty. The shrimp was friend with planko and it was hot and crispy. I'm not new to NYC. I've passed this place many times. This night I was in town, visiting my old friends, so we stopped at Chef You next door for 1 order and this place for dumplings. I ordered a first round of food and a few rounds of drinks and shots we waited. I paid and tipped generously. As I waited I opted to order another dumpling to go and another glass of wine. Since this order was last minute and I tipped quite well the first check I didn't tip on this check (it was considerably lower and it was all to go there was no table service) Well the waiter came back over and was VERY threatening about me not tipping. Azuki has stood the test of time as this has been my go-to sushi spot in this area for more than a decade. Not too far from Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and even Port Authority this is a small sushi restaurant that is great to go too if you need it in a pinch. Quality food has been had at each visit. This last visit was during happy hour where a select number of cocktails and spirits were $8. I also dined solo just grabbing an order of shumai and the Manhattan Roll. Tuna outside, shrimp on the inside and a bunch of eel sauce and spicy mayo dressed the roll. The shumai came out hot and delish, my roll was a nice size and my Captain Morgan and ginger ale was the perfect happy hour drink. Service is always top notch, even though the food does take a bit to come out. Moral of the story: If you need a spot in an area of Manhattan that can get touristy and overwhelming, this is a spot you can count on. read more

If you're looking for a casual, unfussy, familiar sushi bar vibe, this is the place -- can't think of any reason you shouldn't go. Was heading back to Penn Station, desperate to get mu sushi on, and Azuki was perfect. Sort of low-profile -- even though I was there in a Saturday night, the place was comfortably uncrowded and laid back. My meal was fine. Just something pretty basic, a sushi entre with nine pieces and a roll, and seaweed salad for my appetizer -- one of the highlights of my experience. Not so great was the miso. I could see right away that the broth was thin, almost colorless, and unfortunately, flavorful it was not -- disappointing, because miso is pretty fundamental, and it felt like getting off to a bad start. Moving past that, my sushi came and I inhaled it like I do whenever I'm around good sushi. If I had to quibble, I'd say the sushi chef could have taken a more refined aesthetic approach to the presentation (let's be honest, that's something we notice and miss when it's not quite right). Got on well with our server, no problem there ... so yeah, if it's a low-key sushi fix you need, Azuki will hook you up. read more

It's comic con, and being on your feet all day sure makes you hungry. On my way to my regular ramen joint I passed by Azuki and thought I'd stop in and try them. Decor was nice, gentle environment. I was starving, ready and eager to eat, saw they had a tonkotsu ramen, an took a hot sake as well. The restaurant was pretty slow at the time and food came out fairly fast. The first thing I noticed was how much broth was in the bowl. You could only see the eggs clearly on top, and the pork was kinda viable. I'm not a ramen expert, but I've had my share... this looked like it was drowning with 0 effort in presentation. The reason for this is because there isn't much to present at all. This ramen only comes with a literal boiled egg (not marinated like most places), veeeeeery thinly sliced pork, a few green things and thanks it really. First taste I had of the broth was underwhelming. There was hardly any flavor, just salty. The noodles were decent, but other than that the bowl wasn't all the good. I had most of the port, egg and some noodles to fill my belly, but I'd avoid spending your $26 for what I ordered here. This was the first time I didn't either finish or take any leftovers. I didn't even finish the sake as it too was just not all the satisfying. Two stars for being clean and calm. read more

I ordered a lunch special Bento Box with Shumai, House Salad, 6 piece California Roll, White Riceand a lovely piece of Teriyaki Salmon. The food was delicious! Sad I only had 19 minutes to scarf down all my food, pay the bill and, run out and get back to work! Can I tell how fresh everything was...you know the taste of well prepared fresh fish My review for this quaint little hidden treasure is a 4 out of 5 stars. The staff was good unfortunately I didn't get the full treatment because I literally had to gulp down my food but I'll say this...I would go back for a second time if I'm in the vicinity for sure!! I had the most rudest server ever today on Saturday at 1:30pm. I come here all the time I'm at Broadway performer and I've never been treated with such disrespect. I went here to order a takeout in between my Broadway rehearsals and I ordered a lunch special but was told that the lunch special price was not offered on the weekends even though it did not specify in the menu. So instead I made a different order but before I was able to order again once he knew that I was changing my order he saw to it that I would wait an additional 10 minutes before he took my new order and was very rude about it. Then after he made sure that he left my to go order on the furthest table away from me so I had to walk to get it instead of he bringing it to me when I asked for additional soy sauce he said there was an extra charge for a single packet of soy sauce. When I then asked to speak to his manager he spent another 5 to 10 minutes to even go back to look for the manager. By then I had to leave to go back to the rehearsals at my broadway show. It's such a shame that a restaurant with good food can have absolutely rude and disrespectful servers. The large of money that I've spent buying food at this restaurant on a monthly basis will now go towards another restaurant that will treat me with respect. read more

Wonderful unassuming sushi place. Best Kanu salad in this area and the rolls are super tasty! Hot sake very decent relaxing and all very affordable which is rare for this part of Manhattan.
