Treated myself to a solo date before my broadway show. I stumbled across this gem which had a great happy hour. I sat down and they had no issue accommodating a party of one. I ordered a lychee martini which was strong but good, the Kani salad ( I did wish it had more crab in it) but overall good and a shrimp tempura roll. I had a great experience and would visit again.

Came here for lunch and they have a really good lunch special: 2 rolls with soup for $15 The restaurant is nice and clean and the staff is friendly. The presentation was really nice esp for lunch. I ordered the salmon avocado roll and the shrimp tempura roll. It came with miso soup. The miso soup was tasty with the right amount of seaweed and tofu. The salmon roll was really good. Saloon was tasty and fresh and the avocado was ripe and creamy. The shrimp tempura was also really tasty. The shrimp was friend with planko and it was hot and crispy. The roll was good it was just kinda hard to eat without it falling apart. This restaurant is close to my job so I will be back.

Went there with a friend during a busy workday. Pleasant attentive service. Well priced options. Quiet enough to encourage conversation. Nice sized portions and good selection.

Pretty dang good! Great service, although they definitely assume you're there to take your time, which was fine by my friend and me. The ambience is very pleasant as well, quiet and cozy. As for the food, I especially loved the Manhattan roll--an absolutely delicious combination of flavors and textures. The shrimp tempura inside was glorious! I'll be coming here again for sure!

    Threatening Check

I'm not new to NYC. I've passed this place many times. This night I was in town, visiting my old friends, so we stopped at Chef You next door for 1 order and this place for dumplings. I ordered a first round of food and a few rounds of drinks and shots we waited. I paid and tipped generously. As I waited I opted to order another dumpling to go and another glass of wine. Since this order was last minute and I tipped quite well the first check I didn't tip on this check (it was considerably lower and it was all to go there was no table service) Well the waiter came back over and was VERY threatening about me not tipping. So much so I tipped but little, just so I could get the hell out of there. THE WAITER THREATENED ME!!! Read that again. DO. NOT. EAT. HERE. HORRIBLE. I've attached the top portion of my check so you don't think I'm making this up.

Salmon Dream and Tuna Lover rolls: SPECTACULAR!!!

My mom and I stayed at the hotel right across the street and enjoyed our amazing dinner the last night in NYC. Beautiful restaurant, excellent staff, very generous size rolls and servings. I got The Manhattan Roll, Salmon Dream and the Tuna Lover roll. Did not disappoint!! Next visit to New York, will definitely be eating here.

do yourself a favor and get their combo lunch B it's a shrimp tempura roll and cucumber avocado with spicy salmon topping it was so good and only like $15 they made it very quickly almost too quickly a bit hard to find since a lot of other shops have the same address 520 8th ave but i found this place was closer to the corner of 36 and 8th

Beautiful restaurant and ambience! Delicious sushi and sashimi!

My friends and I had a lovely time at the restaurant. It had a lovely interior, quick service, kind workers, and the sashimi was super fresh. Price was also great for NYC!

Great happy hour and great sushi. Dinner specials $28 for three rolls! Wine $7. Delicious sushi! Huge portions. Staff is helpful! Place is nice. I can't wait to try the lunch specials! Spicy tuna is delicious and so is yellow tail!

    Shumai
    Samantha C.

Azuki has stood the test of time as this has been my go-to sushi spot in this area for more than a decade. Not too far from Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and even Port Authority this is a small sushi restaurant that is great to go too if you need it in a pinch. Quality food has been had at each visit. This last visit was during happy hour where a select number of cocktails and spirits were $8. I also dined solo just grabbing an order of shumai and the Manhattan Roll. Tuna outside, shrimp on the inside and a bunch of eel sauce and spicy mayo dressed the roll. The shumai came out hot and delish, my roll was a nice size and my Captain Morgan and ginger ale was the perfect happy hour drink. Service is always top notch, even though the food does take a bit to come out. Moral of the story: If you need a spot in an area of Manhattan that can get touristy and overwhelming, this is a spot you can count on.

Hamachi Kama is one of my favorite dishes and boy oh boy does Azuki do it right! Crispy skin and tender inside served with a tangy ponzu sauce.. yum! This place is so cute and cozy can't wait to come back.. also who doesn't love a happy hour that goes until 9pm!?

    California Roll Shrimp Tempura Roll

Absolutely incredible service. I was in and out in 30 minutes with an appetizer. Food was great - spring rolls and sushi were perfect. Great price, especially for the area. Would definitely go again.

Was craving sushi for my lunch break, but wasn't sure where to go. Luckily, as I turned the corner, I find Azuki. I've been here once before and it did not disappoint. The miso eggplant was delicious, and all their sushi is fresh and well made. I certainly recommend this spot. It's a chill spot with relaxing music. Great place for a date, or solo.

    Happy hour drink prices!

To drink, I had a Hot Organic Super Matcha Tea for 4.95. It was alright tea, and I wish teas were included in the price point, as otherwise, this place feels pretty traditional. In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.
