Don't overlook this sushi place - I was hesitant at first, but the sushi, soup, hot tea and dumplings are definitely worth checking out! The location was not busy maybe 3-4 tables of people, so I was instantly questioning my decision, but the service was very pleasant and the food was tasty and filling! Being the restaurant wasn't too busy, the sushi chef was able to make our rolls right away so our wait for food was minimal. Great location, great service, great food! read more

Why is this place expensive?!?! WTF!! Its average at best. Here are some things to look out for if you plan on eating here: 1. Rush you to order, but then late to bring check 2. Brown Lettuce 3. Servers jet black hair on my table when I sat down (My hairs brown...just saying) 4. The ginger was clearly reused not fresh, withered ginger describes it best. 5. I came to Azuki for their lunch special. The restaurant looks very clean and nice. I got their maki roll combo 2 and it has spicy tuna roll and yellow tail roll. It also comes with salad to start. Unfortunately, I was sitting waiting for my appetizer salad for over 15 minutes. They forgot about us until I reminded them about the missing salad. Then another long wait past, we got our sushi/entree finally. The maki was alright. It is fine for the area but it is not impressive in any sort of way. I think there are better places to get sushi lunch in the area and without the long wait. read more

Staff is friendly. The ambience is nice. You can see the sushi chefs working behind the bar from any angle in the restaurant. The Sushi bar has a black stone wall with water running down it. Their food is very good. We got edamame, Mango Tango, and told the waiter to bring us a random assortment of 4 more rolls. They did not disappoint; all of them were delicious. The restaurant was easy to find and coveniently close to the train station at 34th street. It's a small location but cozy and comfortable. On a hot day, its great to see how well air conditioned it is! Service was quick and attentive. I ordered a salmon teriyaki with miso sauce bento box and it was even better than I imagined. Perhaps I was just very hungry! The bento box came with shrimp dumpling, california roll, edamame, salad, rice and the salmon. Came here for lunch. The sushi that I ordered was tiny (half the size of regular rolls). The place was very crowded and I had to sit at the sushi bar, and service was super slow. I stopped in while visiting the area last Friday. It was just after 230pm when I arrived and the first thing the hostess said to me was "we close at 3, can you be finished by then?" Ooooookay, is that how they do things in NYC??? Still, I was hungry and tired of looking for options so I stayed. I ordered the appetizer that has crab, cucumber and some type of mayonnaise sauce. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again. I really wanted ika but it was not on the menu. For my entree I ordered the Manhattan Roll. It was a pretty good size for the money. And it was pretty tasty too. It was a bit of a kick to it. I am assuming that was the spicy tuna or whatever it was I read on the menu. I can't recall. I was satisfied with my food when I left and spent around $20 for lunch. Oh, and I was gone before 3! Would I eat here again? Eh, I don't live in the city so it isn't likely. I love Azuki! I have been coming to this location for years! Every year the Friday after Thanksgiving, my coworkers and I come here to eat, it has been a tradition since they opened! For an app, try the Rock Shrimp tempura if you like spicy shrimp! I love their Fantasy and Passion roll! With every $15 you spend there you get a free bottle of hot sake. We always order so much food with plenty of leftovers for 6 people they don't charge for sake. Usually our bill for 6 people comes out to $200 including a tip. Great place! read more

If you don't get here by 12/12:15 for lunch expect to wait, they fill up pretty quickly. The service is fast and the food is good. The bento boxes offer a lot of food and is worth the price which is affordable. In a word: acceptable. It's no secret that Midtown West is a desolate wasteland of good food options. Azuki is no exception. It's a small sushi restaurant on 8th avenue. It's not the freshest, but I had no complaints about fishiness or anything. Don't expect the world, but do expect quick service. read more

I dined here, the food quality is good, that's why I considered going here. However, words of advice to management. They really needs to train their employees, on learning some manners and etiquette. When I left the waitress said out loud " you didn't leave a tip" , while I was walking out, she stopped me. I was appalled. First off, I did leave a tip, she couldn't read the numbers on the receipt. But for her to announce that and completely embarrass me was so rude. Will never recommend this place to anybody. read more

I work in this neighborhood and there are very few quality places to eat lunch. Azuki is a nice spot, but it can get quite pricey if you order a la carte - stick to the lunch specials. The food is good - I ordered a standard Eel Avacado Roll and a Robin Roll (tempura chicken, avocado, eel sauce) - both were good, nothing to complain about. Service was very friendly and fast. The restaurant had a really nice ambiance - definitely more upscale & modern than most other lunch offerings in the area. I would recommend it for a business lunch. Normally, this neighborhood is a wasteland. Nothing but bad sushi, pizza, and Strawberry stores. This place was hidden under some scaffolding and must be fairly new -- none of the crazies were there. The sushi was decent, the service was fast, and the place was very clean and modern. I thought the padded walls were funny -- kind of like insane asylum meets lounge feel. I called the place and complained about his attitude. she said I should've given him more tip. I can't believe what she said was justify his attitude. Huge portions for the right price. I ordered the Azuki roll which was delicious. I asked for the multi-grain rice instead of white rice - really yummy. Very fresh fish. We had out of town guests who wanted sushi. Now that's not normally a problem, but they were staying at the Hotel Pennsylvania and I know very little about that area. I spent what seemed like an eternity looking for a place and finally came up with Azuki. On a complete wing and a prayer, we went. Perhaps it was because it's located in a more business-like area of town, but it was nearly empty when we went in at 7:30pm. The staff was attentive, fun, and incredibly helpful when we asked them for suggestions of what to order. (None of us really know what we're doing when it comes to sushi.) This was too obviously Chinese run, and the food was extremely overpriced. We ordered the taro roll, which was $16 and only included 2 stale mediocre pieces of sashimi. The room was extremely dimly lit which annoyed me greatly. I would definitely not recommend this place as all the rolls were overpriced, stale, not fresh. The service was pretty decent. They were really good at bringing us our drink orders which seem to compound as the night went on. The food wasn't bad either, although I am not sure I got exactly what I ordered but whatever....at that point I was so drunk that I didn't really care. You see..........the thing is, when you are sake bombing over and over (and over), sushi starts to taste really really good regardless of what it is. So two of my friends and I had 2 hours to kill this Friday before our movie. We were all craving sushi. Since I work right in the area I had tried most of the sushi places nearby except for this one. It had a nice big A in the window (these restaurant grades have ruined my life..I refuse to eat anywhere lower than an A) and the interior was pretty. It also wasn't crowded so it seemed like a no brainer. I was so disappointed. Sure the miso soup was good (it is miso soup, kind of hard to mess that up) and it was cheap but that's about it. First off, they don't have brown rice. I just found that odd. What Japanese restaurant doesn't have brown rice? Whatever, I was really hungry and wanted sushi so I got it anyway with the white rice. I like my sushi cut into eights. I don't like it in sixes. I ask the waiter to have my rolls cut into eights. He repeats what I ask to make sure and writes it down. When I get my sushi, is it cut into eights? Of course not; it was six pieces. So now even if the sushi was good it would have been a little less enjoyable cause it wasn't cut into eights like I asked. But eights or sixes, didn't make a difference. The sushi was NOT good. I ordered eel avocado and spicy crunchy tuna. The spicy crunchy tuna was OK but very bland. As for the eel and avocado, I could barely eat it. The eel was so fishy tasty. Azuki is a solid sushi choice when you want to catch up with a friend over some rolls and sake. It's not mind blowing sushi, but as someone who is a bit of a sushi snob, I am willing to say I would come back. The restaurant was surprising not crowded for a Friday around 7:30. Holy Bento Box! Ton of food for an awesome price... I got the Chicken Teriyaki Box and the hubs got the Beef version. Both come with a whole Cali Roll, 4 dumplings, edamame, rice, and a full serving of salad. Food was good, nothing was under-seasoned, and we left SUPER full -- but it isn't anything we haven't had before. Prices are great, only $15 for our boxes and the sushi options weren't crazy expensive either. Service was good and I loved the atmosphere of the place, low lighting, very comfortable booths, sushi station in the middle of the room. read more
