Dr. Phillips took excellent care of my father's medical needs and cataract surgery for both eyes. Now, 20+ years later, both my husband and I still see Dr. Phillips for our check ups and whenever we need attention for our eyes. Unfortunately, I needed cataract surgery for both eyes in my mid 50's. I knew right away that I wanted Dr. Phillips to do the procedure. I've always felt comfort, honesty, and professionalism with Dr. Phillips expertise in the field. I had cataract surgery for 1 eye, and it was amazing, I was able to see when I left the surgical center. I couldn't wait to get the second eye done. Within several weeks, I had the second surgery. Disappointing First Experience With Rosemead Eye Center…read more This was my first time calling Rosemead Eye Center because I was interested in becoming a new patient. I had heard good things about Dr. Lai through online searches, so I was hoping to confirm what insurance they accept and how to use my medical insurance for an eye exam. Unfortunately, the experience fell short right from the start. The person who answered the phone, Sam, was impatient, unfriendly, and noticeably rude when I asked basic questions. Instead of helping guide me through the process, as any medical office should, especially for new patients--she sounded irritated and dismissive. It honestly doesn't matter how good a doctor may be if the first point of contact treats people this way. A front desk representative sets the tone for the entire practice, and this interaction was a complete disservice to Dr. Lai and to potential patients like myself. I ended the call feeling unwelcome and unsure if I should even schedule an appointment. Customer service matters, especially in healthcare. Sadly, this was not a good first impression.

They made me a new pair of bifocals and when I reported the lower part was wrong I was asked to try wearing them for awhile to see if my eyes adjust to them. Well I got my prescription from my previous optometrist five years ago and brought it along with their new incorrect lower vision glasses back. Their optometrist told Helen my new prescription is exactly the same as the one I had 5 years ago. How incompetent can these "doctors" be. They, as I was told, changed my prescription to what they thought may be best for my eyes. WTF? Is this how things are done now. Make the glasses the way their optometrist thinks it should be and not what my vision actually is? I left these "new" glasses and case and called Millie Kelly at Azul vision. She didn't answer. Her husband had surgery with Dr. Lu and was very satisfied. Coincidentally, both his office and the surgery center are in Arcadia, where I live. I had cataract surgery on my left eye on 2/16 and on my right eye yesterday, using an EDOF multifocal intraocular lens (paid out-of-pocket). Dr. Lu truly lived up to his reputation; he was very professional, explained things meticulously, and patiently answered all my questions. Both surgeries went very smoothly and successfully. Furthermore, Dr. Lu personally calls patients on the same day after each surgery to check on their progress. Although there are follow-up appointments the next day, his dedication and willingness to go the extra mile touched and reassured me. Dr. Lu is truly an outstanding doctor, highly trustworthy and recommended. I also want to especially mention the staff at the Doheny eye center were very friendly, professional, and attentive in answering questions. Amazing service!
