    Croquetas

Probably my least favorite food that I got during my week long stay in Puerto Rico. The lobster gnocchi was fishy. The Croquetas and steak were good but not worth the price. The server was pushy and kept trying to get us to order more food. We really wanted to like this place because of the modern vibe and being women owned, but it was overall disappointing.

I was excited to try this restaurant because the chef was a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist and I had seen the interior on Instagram and thought it looked super cool. The whole experience was more like 3.5 due to the service, but I will be generous and go with 4 stars since I'd like to support a local Puerto Rican chef. The restaurant is rather difficult to find because it is located deep in the Popular Center in Hato Rey. When you enter from the street, you will pass by a few security guards who help to direct you to the restaurant. It is a bit of a distance from the entrance, so allow some additional time; you're basically walking through a really nice office building for several minutes. There are some cool artworks to entertain you along the way. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. The interior is very beautiful with carved wood panels and ceilings. At the front of the restaurant there is a gorgeous tablescape with candles and palms. After we made our reservation earlier in the day, we noted they have a weird policy that one cannot use one's phone in the dining room. Note that they tell you this AFTER they place a hold on your credit card. However, when we got to the restaurant we saw numerous other folks using their phones and taking photos and no one said anything. Once we got the impression they didn't seem to care, we also took some pics. I can understand they don't want people to interrupt others' dining experience by taking photos of the atmosphere, but I fail to understand why one cannot take pictures of one's own food. With this type of restaurant, customers are not just paying for a meal, but a dining experience which includes the aesthetics and presentation of the plates. For a cocktail, I ordered the Boveda, which contained pineapple and rum. My fiancé ordered the same cocktail with no issue but when I ordered it, the server had to advise me that it was "strong". I thought this was odd and low key misogynistic, seemingly implying that I can't handle a strong drink. For the record, I did not find it particularly strong, so don't even know what the server was talking about. The server also brought us the wine list, which is on an iPad. Once we decided we were just going to get cocktails, the server didn't remove it for sometime and it sat awkwardly on the table. Strange. We were presented with English language menus when we arrived. When we were considering what to order, the server literally READ THE MENU to us, almost word for word, all while animatedly gesticulating in my general direction. As the only woman in the party, I wonder why he chose to stand next to me to do this and point out every single thing. At one point, it felt rather invasive as his hands got a little too close to my face. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, thinking, maybe he was trying to practice his English, but this was highly off-putting. For appetizers, we had the escabeche de conjeo, crujientes de morcilla, hamachi tiradito, and croquettas de jamon. The croquettas were excellent and the crujientes de morcilla were very delicious and an inventive concept. They were like little eggrolls stuffed with morcilla. Yum. For an appetizer, I ordered the pumpkin soup with gnocchi. This was served a bit cold, and was not good. It was said to contain mushrooms but I could barely detect a mushroom flavor. Not worth the $18 at all. There was a considerable delay, maybe 30-40 minutes, between our appetizers and entrees. My entrée, the branzino was good and a substantial portion. This was definitely worth the $36 and if I were ever to come back here, I'd order it again. We also ordered a side of the potato cream, which was excellent: think of mashed potatoes, but with lots more butter and cream. We did not opt for dessert as it had been a long day and we had already been at the restaurant for almost 2.5 hours. TLDR; I recommend the croquettas de jamon, crujientes de morcilla and branzino. The service (or lack there of) and weird phone policy detracted a lot from the experience.

White fish fillet with mussels, delicious! I forgot the name of the fish.

Eye-catching interior design, very instagrammable. So unique! The lights are dim so they give a very cozy feeling. The mixologist who was also our server for the night was super knowledgeable and helpful. Made great recommendations! We were in the mood of wine, so decided to have a bottle of Maldonado Chardonnay, which we love. They have good selection of wines in the wine list. We had some hit and miss in the food. As appetizers we had 'crujientes de morcilla' ($15) and hamachi tiradito ($20) both 10/10! But we also ordered a salmon carpaccio, a special off the menu, visually stunning and colorful with interesting flavors although not quite good. As main course we had the Pork Ragu ($21) that was average, nothing special. The fish with mussels was the best dish of the night. Fish was tender with a crunchy skin and the sauce was incredible. If you are going to come to this restaurant, know that it is a little difficult to find. Is not located street face but hidden inside a building called Popular Center.

The food and service here was phenomenal! I celebrated my birthday here and the waiter made me feel so welcomed and was very attentive. The ambiance of the place is gorgeous. The food here was by far one of the most flavorful tasting food I ever had.

While the food was excellent ( the hamachi and muscles in particular) the service was horrendous. We arrived at 8pm for our reservations and the server at first was attentive and warming. Right when the appetizers were presented, we did not see our server until after our after dinner drinks which we ordered from another server. We also ordered the apple bread pudding which was amazing, but had no spoons delivered until 10 minutes after. The ice cream was a soup by then. Overall the food was good, but the service was atrocious. For an anniversary dinner, we felt like an afterthought to a non busy night. Also, not sure why we didn't receive complimentary anniversary dessert/treat like others did even though it was mentioned in our reservation. No big deal, but apparently it's a thing they do that we did not get the pleasure of receiving. Spending about $350 for two is painful when you feel forgotten/unseen during your dinner. If we could give 2.5 stars we would and it would be because of the service alone.

Came here for my birthday dinner and I loved it! I am obsessed with like Miami type of restaurants and this place did not disappoint! The decor was so unique and cool and everything about the experience was a 10/10. Service was amazing, food was amazing, and drinks were amazing. I would definitely come back here again if I lived in Puerto Rico.

Well prepared food with excellent service. A true gem in San Juan. Enjoyed everything we had from the Octopus Carpaccio to the Duck breast perfectly cooked. the wine list is interesting and had a Roux Pere & Fills Polly Fuisse which was delicious. Quiet environment perfect for fine dining. Only issue is finding the restaurant in the Poplar Bldg. (ask for help when you enter the bldg)

    Prime rib
    Merlyz Q.

The ambiance is super nice inside, definitely upscale. The servers are super nice and professional and good at explaining everything you need to know. I ordered the the prime rib and it as delicious and super tender, falling apart, the sauce was immaculate. I paired it with the Parmesan potatoes, and those were also delicious. Came with Parmesan and butter that was seasoned. Main course 10/10 potato's 8/10. I also tasted the the lamb and that was also super tender, falling apart delicious. That dish had more of a charge flavor 8/10. Arroz de dia which is like a paella with the kale salad. The kale salad was delicious and comes with Parmesan cheese 9/10 the arroz dish 7/10 it had an interesting flavor and comes with the cream sauce. The drinks were also good. for alcoholic drinks I would recommend the romea. For appetizers we got the octopus which is served cold like a salad and the gnocchi. The octopus was so flavorful and delicious 9/10 and the gnocchi was also good but not as flavorful 6/10. Also had a celebratory birthday cake which was super delicious chocolate.

    Chocolate souffle (i think?)

This was the perfect place to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend! We had already picked out everything we wanted before we even landed in PR, we were just THAT excited to go here! The patatas bravas were so tasty, we thought we'd be full off that alone! The lamb was delicious and so rich, the beef was perfect! The drinks were so fruity and exactly how I like it! The chocolate souffle was an amazing way to end the night before the waiter surprised us with complimentary macarons! I was really overjoyed at the chance to spend a lovely evening with someone I love, with really kind and thoughtful service, at a beautiful restaurant with amazing food, and it is definitely a moment I will remember till the end of time. Thank you so much for everything!

This place is absolutely stunning! It is a little hard to find because it is in another building but once you walk in it is a five star experience. The service is incredible, the place is beautiful, the drinks are delicious (I got the paper plane! So so good), and the food is something I would return for. I don't normally order salmon because I can make it at home, but 150% recommend the salmon. It is one of the best meals I've ever tasted!

We were able to snag a reservation but for a late time which was about an hour and a half before close. The service was super great but one thing I wished they mentioned that the bottled water was going to be a $40 charge lol. Makes sense for any upscale restaurant though. Should've mentioned we wanted tap so fair warning, ask cause you WILL get charged haha. We had a group of 10 and for how big the group was, the food came out pretty fast. I don't think we ever had a time between drinks to entrees where we were waiting for food to come out. We got the watermelons mojito for drinks since it was the most raved about. It was good but personally nothing crazy for me. 8/10 score on that. We also curry popcorn chicken, the ahi tuna lollipops, the empanadillas and the goat cheese quesadillas for apps and honestly overall 9/10. This is where I don't like the sweetness part of this meal. The empanadillas were what I was most excited for but it was more sweet then savory which sort of lose my appetite a little. I think if you like that kind of taste then it's going to be good. It wasn't a bad taste at all. Just too sweet for my liking. The curry popcorn chicken was good and the lollipops were great. Again, nothing crazy. The goat cheese quesadillas was good as well but again, too sweet for my liking. Now on to the entree, they didn't have the porkchop since we came late so I ended up getting the porkchop belly dish. When it came out, it looked amazing but then I got a whiff of it and smelled cinnamon. That's when I was sort of disappointed. It was like eating pork but tasting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and as said before, it tasted great but too sweet for me. This one was way too sweet to where it seemed like a dessert item. I just had poor luck and got one of the one items that were sweet. This doesn't tank the rating down whatsoever because I also should've read it had cinnamon. It would've been great if they made a dipping sauce or something to pair it with and not have it on the pork belly itself. I got to try other dishes my friends got which were good as well but I wish I got to try something else. If I came back I would try the sold out item which was the pork shank or the sea bass. I know for a fact the sea bass was amazing. Had a bite of it and thought "I'll come back for that" Overall, 10/10 experience and nothing bad about the place but gotta try different items when I go next time. I understand the hype now

Everything we ordered was very good, and on an extremely hot day, I was especially appreciative of how well the A/C was keeping up. I was actually a little cold--and I'm never cold. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

AMBIANCE You're in the city so it's an eventful area. There's street parking and nearby lots but your best to carpool or rideshare. As for the vibes, I'm told in the daytime it's a local marketplace that's filled with vendors and other fresh produce booths. It's pretty chill with a nice neighborhood feel. As for the evening, this is where to turn up and get a pulse of Puerto Rico parties. EXPERIENCE Go to your bar, pick your vibe from community, club excessive, lounge feel, live music or etc. Drink choices rangeThey have it here! Plenty of photo op spots and good energy. I was here peak of the #DTMF era so it was magical to see people come together with a speaker and a cowbell. A local put into perspective how this was way better than paying for an expensive hotel party. It was truly a 1 of 1 experience. TL;DR OVERALL 5 Stars. It doesn't get any better. There's a reason why this space is dropped in lyrics and people's recommendations because this is the heart of the people. So don't be shy! Grab a drink, walk around, catch a dance, and be safe! I guess this was purposefully done as I've heard it's nuts here on Fridays & Saturdays. When you get dropped off at the main road when you walk down it takes you to all the action in a few hundred feet. This place was still packed, but it was popping, the place to be at night I'd guess. They've got all JJ da of restaurants, bars, & clubs here. Tons of music, & a good time.
