Gorgeous rooftop located in the Alma hotel. The hotel is located next to Plaza Colon. There are multiple restaurants and a coffee shop but my review will focus on Mar Y Rosa, the rooftop restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended especially with cruise ships and tourists galore. We were lucky to snag reservations at 5pm. We were seated by the bar which was great. We didn't want to be in direct sunlight and it was a little windy. The wall and roof helped with the wind. Part of the hotel has glass floors. A little trippy and cool at the same time. We started off with cocktails. The hibiscus guava margarita was beautiful and delicious. Overall, all the cocktails were great. For starters, we got the crab donuts. Literally, the best of both worlds. Who doesn't love a sweet donut with savory crab. That was one of my favorites. The tuna starter was so good too. So fresh with nice size pieces of tuna, watermelon, red onion, and jalapeño. The tuna came with a corn chip and smashed avocado too. For my entree, I ordered the trio of taquitos. Most of the menu is tapas style so I wasn't sure how hungry I was. The taquitos were so good and fresh. They were small so I ordered more! I forgot to take a picture of the shrimp lettuce wraps but my stomach was so happy. My husband ordered the crab fried rice. You have to work for it, but they make it easy. The flavors were delicious. Our friends ordered the crab fried rice and the catch of the day, which was grouper. We were in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico but sitting at our table, we felt like we were sitting on a rooftop in Greece. The ambiance was a beautiful bohemian mix" that blends classy modern trends with the historic charm of the Old City. It is located on the 7th floor with a view overlooking Old San Juan. Although there wasn't a specific dress code, guests dressed to impress. No flip flops, tank tops. They serve seafood, steak, and burgers. They also have the option of fresh catch of the day which is sold at market value. Be sure to ask the price! Be sure to try the crab donuts. Our waiter described it as both spicy and sweet. I admit, it didn't sound appealing but after one bite, it blew my tastebuds. Mofongo. This is one of P.R. specialty foods. We tried it at another place and it was not appealing. Arrived a few minutes ahead of our 6pm reservation on a Saturday night. Hostess nowhere to be seen. At 6pm, she showed up and told us she needed to seat two other tables waiting and asked us to wait...I started to get nervous with the mix of reviews here and wondered if they overbooked tables. Thankfully, we were seated at 6:05p and the evening went up from there. Camila was our server and was a treat from start to finish. She explained the menu and was attentive throughout. The roof views are outstanding and we enjoyed the thrill of seating on the plexiglass floor looking down seven stories to ground level. All of that and I haven't gotten to the food. We shared everything- from starters to small plates to two of the mains. Tuna taquitos and ceviche were hits. The crab donuts were a sleeper hit. An absolute 10 out of 10 across the board. This gem is on the 7th floor rooftop, and we were seated on the left side, right by the glass where you can see all the way down to the ground floor. As someone who's afraid of heights, it was definitely a rush--but all of that melted away the moment the food arrived. The service was warm and thoughtful from the start. My husband prefers his steak medium rare, while I like mine medium. Without hesitation, our server took a few pieces back just to make sure mine was perfect--and it truly was. That kind of attention to detail made us feel cared for. The ambiance? Just beautiful. It had this magical energy that made the evening feel special. And our 9-year-old? Mar y Rosa is an incredible rooftop restaurant. They serve fresh seafood that has locally caught include a catch of the day offering. The views from rooftop are beautiful, best to come when sun is still up. The food is delicious and servings are generous. The waitress provided a great breakdown of the menu and was extremely helpful. Always ask about the fish size, because it's freshly caught sizes can vary especially with the snapper where some people got a three pound fish . Overall Mar y Rosa has a fun atmosphere great food great drinks and cool music. Best restaurant in Puerto Rico in my opinion. Coming back here on my next trip to PR!!! read more

Save yourself the trouble, DO NOT COME HERE. TERRIBLE costumer service. After 20 minutes of NO ONE coming, we flagged a server and then someone took our order. We had to ask MULTIPLE times for our things (drinks never came AND THEY NEVER BROUGHT WATER). The WORST part was them serving us an alcoholic beer, when we asked for a non-alcoholic one, and then charged the non-alcoholic TWICE; we asked to switch the beer and the waitress was visibly upset and the beer LOOKED AND SMELLED DIFFERENT (my dad drinks a Heineken 0.0 almost daily and and she was telling us that was it when it clearly wasn't since we now exactly what it is). NEVER coming back and never recommending this place again. There are places that have a view that actually care about their customers. read more

My family and I came here after seeing some Instagram reels and I'm soooo happy we made a reservation! The rooftop was beautiful because the view is just absolutely stunning. Our server was soooo sweet and explained everything to us and really helped us decide on what to order since it's a pretty big menu. One thing I will say is that some of the menu items don't actually match the descriptions. For example: the taquitos are really just mini tacos and the fried rice was actually risotto. Don't get me wrong both items were super delicious but just not what we expected when they came to the table. We ordered the scallop escargot, salt n pepper calamari, caviar pasta, catch of the day and mofongo, taquito flight, crab fried rice, and the shrimp al pastor wraps. What you NEED to order are the shrimp al pastor wraps, scallop escargot, mofongo, and the taquitos. Those were the absolute favorites they were sooooo delicious. The mofongo was so authentic and not dry at alllll. I would skip the caviar pasta because with the caviar and capers it just ended up being a salt bomb. They even give everyone complimentary roses which was soooo sweet! I just wish they gave the roses at the end of the meal because when you're ordering a lot of dishes tapas style it's hard to fit everything on the table with the flowers. Unfortunately wanted to like this place. The view is beautiful; the staff is EXTREMELY attentive and nice. But our food was mediocre. We got the New York strip which was so salty. And the fries literally you couldn't eat them because there was so much salt on them. Then me and my friend got home and we got sick from the food. 1 Star We came here for a birthday dinner, and I was so disappointed with how we were treated. For a table of 8, service was terrible from the start drinks took forever, and food was brought out one plate at a time, 20-30 minutes apart. One guest's hamburger was even forgotten, and the whole dinner dragged on for almost 3 hours. The rooftop seating was cramped, hot, and uncomfortable. When it was time to pay, we understood the bill couldn't be split, so we planned to leave a cash tip instead. While we were still gathering everyone's cash, our server Mitchelle hovered over us, counted a few dollars that had been set down temporarily, and sarcastically asked, "That's it?" not giving us a chance to leave the full tip we intended. Because of that rude behavior on top of the poor service, we decided not to tip at all. The food didn't make up for the experience either, bland overall, and my steak was so salty I needed water with every bite. Overall, what should have been a special birthday dinner turned into one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Definitely not worth visiting. read more

UN, AND RUN FAST AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT! This was absolutely the worst dining experience I have had in the last five years. The best part of the evening was it finally leaving. The atmosphere is great, and the hostess who sat us pleasant. After being seated at 7:30 the night went south. It took 30 mins to have a waiter attend to us and take our drink order. 20 minutes later we received our drinks, and we placed our appetizer order. We finally got our appetizers 1 hour after sitting, and the appetizers were cold. At 8:30 we ordered our main course and the entrees were finally delivered to our table at 10:30! Two hours! And during that time we had to waive down our waiter for more drinks and status of our order. I expressed my displeasure of the experience to the Manager, she apologized and took my contact information and said she would call me to discuss further. She never did. Which given our horrible experience is not surprising. There are too many world class restaurants in Old San Juan to waste your time or miney at this restaurant. STAY AWAY read more

Food was great- had a 7:45 reservation. Didnt get a table until 9 (after they closed). They had given us bar seats while we waited for our table and then forgot to seat us until we reminded them (after the kitchen was closed). Said they were short staffed but there seemed to be a ton of people running around. We were recommend to this place by our server at lunch. She said the service was spotty but the food was good. We experienced the opposite. The server was attentive, explained the menu and answered all our questions. The restaurant is on a rooftop, so expecting a nice view but it's not that great. When we originally sat down they put us in what I would call a hallway where they drug the trash cans through. The server was very nice when we asked to move to a different table and accommodated us. The food was mediocre at best. I had the catch of the day which was grouper. I had to cut it with a knife it was so tough. My husband had the octopus and it was cold. He also had the watermelon and avocado salad which had little flavor and very little avocado or watermelon. My portion of the grouper was also very small and it was market price which ended up being $59. I should've asked about the price first and I didn't. In the end, it was one of the most mediocre and most expensive meals. I've had in a very, very long time. I would avoid this restaurant. Don't bother coming to this place. Extremely rude unapologetic manager with food that is too expensive for what you get. I don't usually write bad reviews but this restaurant deserves it so no one else has to endure it. A group of twelve friends made reservations, got a booth with three chairs in need of a fourth one. I asked the server and we took a chair from the empty table next to ours. Manager came back almost screaming and demanding that we retuned the chair at once that the the restaurant was full and they couldn't spare it. I asked if there wasn't a single empty chair in the establishment (watching many of them around) and the manager said no. A few minutes she came back and mentioned that we could use the chair. I asked her why she didn't checked before making a spectacle and making the whole group feeling awkward. She just turned around and left. This is how you loose twelve future returning customers that spent close to a thousand dollars. Well no more spending like this from any of us. Excellent service, food, and cocktails. We had the guava margarita and the mezcal & melon drinks, and food highlights were the ceviche taquitos, salmon carpaccio, and fresh fish which all were excellent. The view from the roof top is spectacular! Great for small groups or larger parties. read more
