Stopped for lunch on the return drive from Wassau. Convenient location near the freeway. Quick and attentive service and a nice salad bar. I had the broasted chicken which was delicious! My so. Had the Reuben and tater tots which ended up with a clean plate. My daughter had the Alfredo which disappeared as well. Price for 4 home cooked meals really wasn't that much more $& than stopping at Culvers! Would definitely stop again when we're in the area! read more

This place hit the spot for four of us for brunch for less than $50 (tip not included.) we had omelettes and eggs benedict. The potato sides included potato and zucchini pancakes, which were prepared like latkes or kartoffelpuffers in German. They were the hit of the day. The omelettes can be made with 2 eggs or three. They also have a brunch buffet, but we chose to order off the menu. Nice little local spot for an inexpensive bit to eat. The service was a little slow/not as attentive as I'd like, but it was ok. read more

Traveling north, we stopped at a place close by and exit on Hwy 39 for dinner. What a great find! We had broasted chicken and then decided on mashed potatoes with gravy instead of the usual French fries. Boy were we delighted! The chicken was good; didn't taste died out and reheated like some places. Even as leftovers they were good. The star was the homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. Delicious; I could have had second helping. Nice salad bar and the lettuce was fresh too. Everything done well! Good food and service! read more

It's been several years since I've last been to this restaurant. My memory includes decent food and mostly rude service. I decided to give it another shot. Mainly because my first choice wasn't open on Sunday anymore. I called ahead to see if there was a wait list. No waiting. Score #1. When we arrived there were several other groups coming in at the same time. Still no waiting and immediate seating. Lisa was our server. Score #2. Lisa was friendly & could not have been more perfect. She took our drink orders and returned almost immediately with them. When we were ready she took our food order. I'm always beyond impressed when a server can take your order without writing anything down. 4 people in our group. Lots of banter while we were ordering. Several special requests. Not one mistake. Not one! How does someone perfect that?! It's a mystery to me. Lisa has it down pat. Lisa is the reason I'll be coming back. I can get decent food anywhere but lately it seems I can't get decent service. I get it. Pandemic, staffing shortages especially in the food service industry, new employees, etc. If I owned a restaurant I'd be trying to steal her away from this restaurant for mine. Rustic log cabin appearance serving down home cooking. Servers were polite and friendly. Amazing fish fry Friday! I had the beer battered bluegills and they were both bountiful and beautiful! The salad bar is very fresh with the giant hush puppies not to be missed. Service was friendly. CLOSED! Three different times I have gone there for breakfast because Yelp says they are open for breakfast and they are closed! Every time I try to call I get a message that their voicemail is full or not set up. What the hell is going on? This place needs to get their shit together! And let people know if they are open or closed. Such a shame, the food was pretty good. read more

My GF and I were starving; snowboarding late into the night at nearby Cascade Mountain last month so we looked up local restaurants that were still open. This place came recommended both here on Yelp and on Google search and man did it not disappoint. They were open for dine in which was great and they had a salad bar, something I'd forgotten I missed. Everything was outstanding. The baked cod (with drawn butter) the ribs and the fried chicken, oh the fried chicken! I think they said it was broasted but whatever it was it was fire. The staff was super nice and the chef/owner i believe even came out and said hi to us, decked out in Packers gear. To sum it up, this place totally hit the spot after a long day on the hill snowboarding. Next time we're up there we're going back. read more

The food is incredible! Whether you go for Wing Wednesday, Fish Fry Friday, or Steak Saturday you wont be disappointed! Honestly, its worth a stop just for the salad bar! Excellent place! I ordered a fish fry and my wife ordered a chicken wrap. The fish was nice and tender and crispy and not greasy at all. My wife said the wrap was great and actually ate the whole thing ( that's not normal for her). Service was a bit slow, but the restaurant was very crowded and the waitresses were hustling. We sat at the bar before and the bartender was great with a couple snarky comments to us and on top of every patron who needed a drink. The price was outstanding also. This place does not strike me as a place that would have such good food and food options. You would never know if you wouldn't visit. I was in the area for work and wanted a nice juicy hamburger with fries and a couple of cold beers. Instead, I got more than what I could have imagined. Their menu offers a wide variety of choices and that makes it very difficult to decide. I decided on the pork chops with a veggie side and I was not disappointed at all. There was also dessert that came with the meal, what a pleasant surprise. Oh, how can I forget about my wonderful server Kaitlyn. She is such a sweet, welcoming person and treats everyone as if thy are family. She provided me with the most wonderful experience that I have had at a restaurant in many years. This place was great. Our waitress Kaitlin, was amazing. Friendly, so bubbly and funny. Made our whole meal. It was Taco Bar Tuesday and the food was excellent. No mask wearing and open taco/salad bar buffet. They get our vote for the best all the way around. read more

This family owned restaurant was an excellent find. We had a group of 10 come in at zero notice and not only did they welcome us, but the service and food was excellent! Patty melt was best I had all year! Hopefully you get Sierra to serve you, she is the perfect blend of sassy and super helpful. My husband and I had been regulars at this restaurant for 2 years. The food was always so good there. However, the food has been deteriorating to the point that we only went there for their Big Hoss burgers, which used to be cooked perfectly as requested. However, lately, no matter how we asked for the burger to be cooked, we always got it well done and just dealt with it. When the burgers were so well done that it was dry and unappetizing, the next time we went there, my husband politely told the waitress about it and she kindly told us that she would tell the cook (the owner) to be sure to cook the burger correctly. However, we got them well done once again. So, the waitress took them back. When we got new burgers, the waitress stood there while we cut into it to make sure they were correct. They were even worse. While my husband's was cooked right, it only had one burger patty. Mine was also missing a burger patty as well as being well done. The waitress took them back once again and the owner lost his mind. The whole restaurant could hear him screaming profanities, which included, "If they want it different, they can get the f*ck out!!!" Surprised, I thought we were being thrown out. However, it was even worse. The owner refused to serve us at all and nobody told us. We just sat there until finally I called over another waitress to ask what was going on and we were then told that the owner refused to serve us. I requested to speak to the original waitress to find out why we hadn't been told of this and she said because she thought the owner was joking and she kept going back to see if he remade the burgers. At this point, we obviously left. We were never rude in any way to anyone there. All we wanted was to have our food cooked the way we ordered it. Yet, the owner blamed us for his inability to cook a simple burger. Needless to say, we will never go back there. If the owner can't cook a burger, he really needs to get out of the kitchen and instead get educated on being professional and being responsible for his own mistakes. read more

Skunk burger was amazing. They had one waitress on our side of the restaurant but even with the chaos she did wonderful. The bartender also was more then willing to help her out. Everything was very very very good. Husband has the ribeye which had an amazingly crunchy outside of the steak. Beer bartered fries were nice and extra crispy. Highly recommend! You won't be disappointed. read more

Undercooked burger and half frozen French fries, the walleye was ok. We ordered to go and went to pick up the food and walked in and no one was wearing a mask at all. Signs on the door said that masks are required but nobody seemed to care. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

Covid Alert. This place could be a super spreader restaurant. No one wears masks at this place. Not only do they not wear a mask, they shame you if you do. The server talked about having large parties for the holidays at her house because she doesn't have to listen to our Governor. Stating that "I live in Columbia County, we don't wear masks here". A total disregard for other people and human life. She asked where I was from when I told her Madison she said "Oh, I'm sorry for you. I am not sure why living in Madison is something to be sorry about. Overall not a welcoming experience. Dine at your own risk because these people do not care about you! read more

So glad we found this place! Got to our hotel outside of Portage and the only options nearby was a truckstop Subway and a sketch restaurant. Found B&B Hitching Post on Yelp. Our waitress, Katelyn, was fantastic. My three kids liked their meals (combo platter, cheeseburger, and kids chicken strips) all reasonably priced. I had the dinner special of a 1/3 slab of ribs with 2 piece broasted chicken, potato and soup/salad bar for $15.99. Everything was great! Its been like 10 years since we last visited the Hitching post with my dad they use to give you free popcorn as you waited to be seated my dad loved giving it to the grandkids.. I believe its under new ownership - my dad passed 7 years ago and we just have not gone back but finally decided to try it again.... NOT disappointed at all! It has since been remodeled since i last remember its very cute inside and they added a soup/salad bar... I ended up with the Friday night special of Broasted Chicken and Fried Cod OMG it was soooo good the cod was so tender and juicy at the same time the chicken moist inside and crispy outside - the salad bar was great as was the chicken orzo soup i had - hubby and my daughter both had burgers and enjoyed them.... we definitely will be back - our waitress was lovely and sweet and hostess attentive LOVE this place all over again! :) also can't beat the great prices for the amt of food you get! read more

Cute place. Was a little leery at first since we there was nobody here at lunch time on a Saturday. Had Bloody Mary, wings and burgers. We thought it was really good! It seems the salad bar is what they are known for... a couple families came in during our visit and they were all doing salad and soup bar. read more

I ordered the 6 oz filet (medium) which was charred on the outside and melted in my mouth. My husband had the boneless ribeye - very little fat and one of his top 5 all time best steaks. I had the spicy margarita which was so good. They had a lot of dessert options but we didn't order any. The place was dimly lit so it was a very romantic date night. The reason for my 4/5 stars is that a margarita in a small bar glass should not be $15. Our total bill for 2 lobster bisques, 1 6 oz filet, 1 16 oz ribeye, a beer, and a margarita was $172. I feel like we ordered should not have been that expensive, but I guess it because of the dells.

The Cove serves up the usual supper club fare with, in true supper club fashion, the option to stop at the bar prior to being seated at your table. We decided to just go ahead and order drinks at our table vs the bar and were able to be seated immediately on a Saturday evening (it was a bit earlier in the evening, but still--nice!). For an appetizer, we ordered the bruschetta, which was solid. It was served with a sprinkle of parmesan and a drizzle of balsamic. For my cocktail, I ordered their bourbon old fashioned. It was also good. My dining companion ordered a Bulleit bourbon Manhattan, requesting it served up with cherries. It ended up coming served with olives, which is an oddity we've only come across in Wisconsin. He decided to give it a whirl (rather than sending back) and I had a sip as well. We're both decidedly not fans. So...lesson learned on that one! For dinner, I opted for the broiled shrimp and brussels sprouts. The shrimp were plump and broiled to perfection and came with lemon and cocktail sauce. Delish! The brussels sprouts were steamed, which isn't my favorite method for cooking sprouts (would have much prefered oven roasted or sauteed). That said, they tasted fresh. My dining companion ordered their Wisconsin Jambalaya, which was an interesting mix of bratwurst, chicken, shrimp, and rice covered in a spicy wisconsin cheese sauce. I had a taste and thought it was great! Meals come with soup or salad and a dinner roll as well (which was soft and warm!). Our server was friendly and efficient with our meal nicely spaced. Of course we finished the evening with sharing a Grasshopper dessert cocktail, which was simply presented but delicious. Get to it!

I thought we'd have a river view, but it was hidden behind some trees and a few cabins. Oh well. Still a nice outdoor spot away from the city. We were warned that there was a party of like 20 people coming in shortly to the patio, but we did not notice and interruption in our service as the gang flowed in. I will never love the ability to smoke cigarettes on an outdoor patio, so maybe I should have sat inside, but still worth being outside despite the occasional irritation. To each their own. Our server was great, and was very patient with our slow proces of ordering drinks, appetizers, and the meal in relatively spaced out time periods. The Old Fashioneds were great, without too much of the muddle and soda and more emphasis on the booze -- still a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, though! I enjoyed the cheese curds and was very intrigued by their potato and cheddar crusted cod. I usually get the fried cod during a Friday Fish Fry, but this sounded somehow elevated. Alas, I didn't find it to provide any extra or new flavors, and there was nothing crispy about it. The breading was more like a mooshy exterior that didn't do a ton for the fish. The fish was cooked nicely, but the very high price was very much not warranted. I can get crispier and lower priced cod closer to home, so just can't justify the trip for the fish fry. But then there was dessert. I'm always looking to recreate a favorite (late) childhood dessert that involved brandy infused ice cream. I always ask at a Friday Fish Fry if they can make a Brandy Alexander that's thick enough you need a spoon. They claimed this to be the case, and they did not disappoint. This was a delicious Brandy Alexander and definitely worth a trip back. So, while I wasn't crazy about my overpriced, non-crispy fish fry, I still enjoyed myself and enjoyed my food... I'm glad we came and tried it out, and if you're looking for a nice supper club spot, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I wish I could eat an entire loaf of that bread. The bluegill and cod were better than the lake perch. The lake perch was fine but not amazing. The hashbrowns ordered with onions and cheese were not flavorful and the cheese was packaged American cheese. I would think a supper club would have real cheese.
