    My shark bite drink
    Megan K.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I was staying across the street at treescapes and wanted to try here for dinner. I've only ever cooked on a lava stone once before, so I was excited to do it again. The tiki theme in here is well executed and super cute. Obviously I had to get the shark bite drink and take home the shark cup because now I'm prepared for shark week. I forwent apps because I had a feeling the meal itself would be filling and it definitely was for me at least (I'd been swimming all day). My salmon was delish and I appreciated my waiter's instructions on how to cook it. I also grilled up my side of broccoli and some extra mushrooms and onions in butter on the stone. The garlic mashed potatoes on the side too were a great call. I'd literally drive 14 hours at least one way to come back here and eat, I'm not kidding. Beyond delicious, it's an experience to remember for sure.

Their food may or may not be be good. I walked out with my family after being sat at a dirty table that was visibly grimy, with food still on the table. The restaurant was mostly empty, not remotely busy. If a mostly empty restaurant sits people at dirty tables theyre slacking and cleaning tables, I suspect their kitchen would reflect the dirtiness.

A really fun concept for a unique meal in the Dells. The spinach artichoke dip comes with a TON of pita and is delicious! They have great kids meal options and they get to cook on the stones too! Really great service as well. It is really smoky, so be ready to air out your coat!

I've wanted to come here for awhile and we finally did. Honestly I don't know if I need to go back. The prices seem high for what you get. The bread was not edible. Like way overcooked it tasted burnt. The decor is super cute though. The waitress was nice enough. Apparently they're going cashless but didn't have a notice anywhere so when I went to pay they didn't want to take my money and wanted me to use a card. After talking to a manager and reiterating that I didn't need change (which seemed to be the problem with taking cash) they finally allowed it.

We went on a Friday night for dinner at 7:45pm. I would highly recommend a reservation if on the weekend. We were taken to the table fast and provided menus. The waiter explained to us how the experience worked. The drinks were good and the food took a little to come out. But we were informed the little wait time due to a larger party getting their orders first. The steak was seasoned great and being able to cook it to you own living was nice. The Tiki ambiance was a nice touch. You can also take home a theme drink cup of you would like.

First time here, first impression of the place was pretty cool. the ambiance was tiki themed. we both got souvenirs cups since it is our first time in the area. went for the full tourist experience. We got the salt and pepper calamari. it was good. it came with two lemon wedges and their dipping sauce. I got the salmon entree and my partner for the new york strip. food was decent. you are going more for the experience. Our waitress BETUL was super sweet. she was attentive and answered our questions well. If you ever go, request her section. We enjoyed our time here.

Excelent service by Dimitri. However, the food was a huge letdown: the protein that comes on the Rock is decently seasoned but the seasoning burns instantly. The sides are atrocious (had steamed baby carrots that tasted how moth balls smell and broccoli that fall apart upon touching it! The sauces that come with the protein are so sweet you cannot taste anything after. The experience and the idea was good but there is so much smoke we could barely breathe and other guest around us kept coughing due to the smoke.

We've driven by Hot Rocks a few times over the years but never tried it until last evening. We were seated right away, our waiter explained how it worked and gave us ample time to review the menu. I ordered the top sirloin with garlic mashed and carrots, my husband got the filet medallions with wild rice and broccoli and my daughter got Mac n cheese with fries. The food came out very quickly and the steaks were starting to cook on the rock. We decided to cut them and cook little pieces at a time so it was hot with every bite which was perfect. The steaks were seasoned perfectly and was good quality meat. We enjoyed everything a lot. We ordered the beniets with Nutella mousse for dessert and they were amazing. Will definitely come back again.

Hot Rocks is my family's go-to dinner spot when we come to the Dells. I've been here twice so far, and my parents have been here FOUR times. Yes, it's become somewhat of a tradition to hit up Hot Rocks during our stay and we wouldn't change a thing. They have these light-up palm trees outside of their restaurant where my family always takes a post-dinner photo. It could be blizzarding, it could be during the summer, but we will always snap a photo to commemorate our meal here. The interior's theme is tropical island, with thatched straw/dried palm leaves as decor. Kids and adults alike will be transformed to an island and adults will have the opportunity to order strong drinks in tiki mugs (which you can take home for an extra fee). Everyone will have fun cooking their own meal on a piping "hot rock" that heated to over 200°F. You can order tons of meat/seafood options and combinations. There are options for vegetarians too! The most recent time we were here, my partner ordered the rack of lamb lollipops, and my dad and I ordered the 10oz ribeye. My mom got the seafood trio (salmon filet, 2 shrimps, 2 scallops). We shared calamari and a large Caesar salad, and we each got a kaleidoscope of bright and boozy drinks, fit for a Dells vacation of all adults :) We even got to take home their "limited edition" ceramic Santa mug that came with one of their signature drinks. It's a fun experience every time, cooking our meals and the meat/protein to our liking. Every entrée comes with the choice of two sides (get the garlic mash!). You may not get the quality of a ($$$$) very expensive steak house where everything is à la carte, but you will get a hands-on experience and the food always comes out quickly because YOU are the chef. Hot Rocks is a solid four stars! It's nostalgia. It's that Dells-vacation laidback-ness. If we cannot fly to Maui to escape the frigid Chicago cold, we will always head to our beloved Midwest Hot Rocks.

We arrived about 15 minutes early for our 7:45pm reservation on a Saturday and sat at the bar for a drink. I opted for a morning glow and an espresso martini. Both were decent, I would probably explore another option next time. Seating took a little longer than we thought, seated around 8pm. I'll be honest, at first our sever seemed like a jerk, but quickly turned it around. We started with the cheesecurds, we ate every single one of them. The salads that come with dinner were the perfect size and the bread was a nice touch. We went with a couple of different steaks and they were some of the best cuts we have ever had. As avid 801 Chop in Minneapolis this place blew them out of the water. Second best thing were the mashed potatoes- holy crap, so good! The hash browns were okay but I would have been sad if that was my only option. We were stuffed but the flourless chocolate cake was calling our names. I'm SO glad we pushed through and ordered it, it was a 12/10! Order this, even if you're full and thank me later! Check this place out, you wont be sorry!

I ordered the 6 oz filet (medium) which was charred on the outside and melted in my mouth. My husband had the boneless ribeye - very little fat and one of his top 5 all time best steaks. I had the spicy margarita which was so good. They had a lot of dessert options but we didn't order any. The place was dimly lit so it was a very romantic date night. The reason for my 4/5 stars is that a margarita in a small bar glass should not be $15. Our total bill for 2 lobster bisques, 1 6 oz filet, 1 16 oz ribeye, a beer, and a margarita was $172. I feel like we ordered should not have been that expensive, but I guess it because of the dells.

Ate here on NYE 2025 looking for that authentic Wisconsin "supper club" feel. I've been to a dozen…read more"supper clubs", and I'm still not sure what is supposed to differentiate it from a restaurant. That's all it is. A restaurant. You order your food, they bring it to you, you eat it, you leave. Which is fine. But the mystique in the name escapes me. On that note, at this allegedly renown "supper club" which we made reservations for because it was NYE, the disappointment began with walking in the door. There was a line out the door to approach the host stand, with no guidance as to whether everyone in line had a reservation and was checking in or whether they were just trying to get a table. The two 60+ year old women working it were clearly exasperated, flustered, and had zero efficiency or command of the situation. It was like it was their first night working there, although I doubt this to be the case. At one point the loud-mouthed single mom with her entourage of single-mom daughters announced loudly that she was "going to get sh!t done, because that's what I do!" Well despite the fact that she was a classless pig, it worked. All she had to do was bark at the hostess and she was whisked away to a table. Finally I was able to check in, at this point THEY (not me) were over 20 minutes past my reservation time. They said they'd seat me shortly. Another 15 minutes passed before we were seated. In the meantime, they had an old (80+ years old) crooner walking the lounge singing with his wireless mic accompanied by a man playing keyboard. He was a sweet old man, and he needs to retire. For good. If he needs the money, I understand. But his voice was about as good as his eyesight. Embers should not have scheduled him as the "entertainment". There is no ATM in Embers, and although I always carry cash I had used the last $20 in my wallet prior to our arrival. I walked to the other "supper club" across the street (Del Bar), used their ATM to get cash, and returned to tip the god-awful but well-intended singer and his musician - but they were packing up. It was 3 hours before midnight. Pretty early to stop the music. I then reminded the hostess that I was still alive, and she led us to a "booth" in the "lounge". This bar is the stuff of 1950's Vegas, and hasn't been cleaned or painted since then. The "booth" they sat the 3 of us in was like an RV dining booth - barely big enough for my average male build on one side, and not fitting my adult wife and daughter (both petite) on the other. There was a cocktail tray sitting on the top of the backrest, which the hostess apparently wasn't going to remove. Additionally, we were now almost in the playing area of the musician - who was packing up. So we are supposed to sit here while he winds his wires 3 feet from us and lugs out keyboards, stands, etc. The hostess fled before I had made up my mind that this was unacceptable - which was clear, but my family was starving and I was considering walking the fine line of "at least we'll eat now." Turns out, I didn't. I was so enraged that they sat us in an RV booth while the band disassembled that I went to the host stand and told her we'd wait for a table not in steerage class. Despite probably having a young grandparent on the Titanic she didn't understand the reference. I spelled it out more clearly when a drunk middle aged male interrupted and demanded to know why there was a 20% gratuity added to his bill, and she pointed to the fine print on the NYE "special" menu that spelled it out. Then he wanted to argue about why they calculate the tip after tax, and she explained that's Wisconsin law. Finally I told him to wait until I'm done before he does his taxes at the host stand, and he shut up. The hostess then found another table for us, in a room that was dated and crowded. We acquiesced. Once dinner arrived, my wife had average filet mignon and below average lobster tail. I had their "special" ribs that are supposed to be world-famous, and they were about a 3 of 5 stars. Slightly smokey flavor, cooked well, slight bit of char, and a good basic sauce. But not much meat. Clearly the House of Embers was looking to be the House of 1000% Profit Margin on NYE. My daughter's meal was so lacking I can't even remember what it was. I realize that this review focuses more on the "experience" than the food, but Yelp asks "how would you rate your experience?" Well, the experience was bad. With the perspective that I have some nerve narrating first-world problems while most of the world would love to have my "bad" experience, I'm addressing it for what it is: I paid for one thing, I got another. And the "other" was a big disappointment. Next time I'll try the Del Bar and hope for better.
