Absolutely awful service. I tried giving this place a 3rd try after they messed up so bad the last time (made a reservation and they closed without telling me and wouldn't answer their phones). We went again tonight and there were plenty of reservations on Tock yet we were turned away at the door by rude hostesses (after ringing the bell and waiting for 5 minutes). After an article in the Denver Post, I sent text msg to make a reservation. They responded saying they needed the date & time I wanted, the nbr in my party and my name. I provided this info and was told they only accept reservations 30 days out. Their website says nothing about a time limit. I have sent a 2nd text msg, but this time they said they accept reservations only 3 weeks away. Obviously they are overwhelmed with business. So go elsewhere, like Run for the Roses in the basement adjacent to Dairy Block or the cocktail bars in Highlands. read more

The entrance and process for getting in looks SUPER SKETCHY (or as sketchy as you can get for a place in Cherry Creek), however that probably makes this the most realistic speakeasy bar I've ever been to!! You have to text them in order to get a reservation, the entrance is in an alley in the back (it does not connect to the greater hotel area), the door in unmarked, and the hallway looks like a maintenance area in a hotel. By far, one of the coolest speakeasy cocktail bars I've been to! The entrance is tucked back and fairly obscure, which only adds to the "speakeasy" allure. Once inside, you are transported back to the art deco period with the warm lighting, detailed accents and comfortable seating. B&GC offers incredible cocktail drinks on their menu, but their talented bartenders can create you a unique drink based on your preferences. I took advantage of this option as I am pregnant and they were able to create me mocktail that made me feel like I was having the real thing. read more

Say what?? This super cute themed bar is a joy. The reservations are text only and they only hold it for 10 minutes. You enter through an alley (this is Cherry Creek, after all so it's not sketchy) and are lead down a long hall way. Once there, you are greeted with dim lights, lit candles and ambient music. The bartenders are beyond knowledgeable and the cocktail menu is enormous. I brought my wife here a few weeks ago for her birthday, and I'm not sure that my review skills can fully do it justice....this place is amazing! It's a unique experience, great drinks, and a good time all rolled into a tiny hidden bar in Cherry Creek. Without spoiling too much, I'll say this: the quest to find the bar and the unique booking method is FUN. It makes you feel like you're part of something special or in on the secret. I've been to all the other speakeasy bars in Denver - I've walked through the bookcase and the ice cream freezer - and this is the only speakeasy experience that feels authentic and less like a gimmick. The atmosphere is delightful and fun and moody (again won't spoil too much) and you won't regret taking the time to visit. Finally...The drinks are INCREDIBLE. They're also incredibly expensive. But yall...worth every penny. This was the only time in my life I have ever closed a $100+ bar tab and had zero regrets. The bartenders are also wonderful. We had a blast talking to the folks behind they bar and they really know their stuff. They aren't pretentious (ive seen reviews suggesting that, and it couldn't be further from what we experienced), they help you navigate an enormous menu, and they even crafted us some off menu drinks to suit my wife's somewhat picky tastes. I texted the number hours before they opened. They got back to me a few hours later and said they didn't have a 7pm but they had a 645pm. I said that worked and they asked for my name and party size which I immediately texted to them. Never heard back from them again even after I texted asking for specific directions from the street and confirming that 645 worked. We got there and were told they didn't have my name on the list and asked to see the texts. I showed them to the hostess and she confirmed it was the correct number but said she didn't have any seats available (even for our party size of 2 seats) and said the earliest they had open was a 945pm. Didn't offer any other suggestions and said we could go to the bar down the street. Cool, thanks. Terrible customer service and just an overall bad experience that left a sour taste in my mouth. There are like 10 better speakeasies in a 20 mile radius so if this place is on your list i'd skip it and go for Run for the Roses or something else. read more

Texted to make a reservation, I did get a response saying what time they had available. I confirmed that time would work and never got a response back. When we arrived they said we should have gotten a code and didn't have our reservation. This same situation also happened to another party at the door. They did end up letting us in and there was nobody even there. The bar overall is cool, the space is pretty small but the drinks are very good and the bartenders were super nice and gave great service. Not sure I would return though based on their lack of organization on the reservations. They need to have a better system or somebody actually that responds and in a timely manner. read more

We showed up as a party of 7 with a reservation. They never communicated a minimum before we showed up. When we show up the hostess, with an attitude, communicated a $600 minimum which is $85 a person. We were confused by this and asked to speak with the manger who could not break down the $600 minimum but believe it was "about $600". I've been here several times and the drinks are not worth their price as is. Won't be coming back. Terrible service wouldn't recommend. Had reservations for Friday, 10PM and after waiting 30 mins, we were never seated and told we had to leave. Nicely enough, they were able to relocate our reservation for Saturday (next day) , 6pm. After a whole reschedule of my Saturday (on vacation as we are from out of town) , I confirm my 6pm reservation and was once again notified that they wouldn't be able to serve us. I love the speakeasy feel, the exclusivity of making reservations, and the atmosphere of this joint. Located in the alley between Columbine and Josephine off 3rd, it's very hard to miss. When you first approach the door, you'll see the doorbell. Ring it and the door is opened by the hostess who leads you through a maze of back hallways. A door opens and there's a lovely tiny bar with all the liquor you could ever want. I had a couple of cocktails. Both were delicious but rather pricey which is to be expected. Their menu offers a variety of cocktails and some small bites. The bartender and servers are also very attentive and happy to make something to your taste! Such a fun speakeasy! Was visiting Denver for a long weekend, and knew I had to try this spot out! We texted to make a reservation, and they were responsive and flexible in making sure we had a spot for the weekend. They were also super kind in making last minute adjustments for our reservation (we came on a Sunday night, which may have more wiggle room than a Friday or Saturday night). When we arrived, we were promptly seated at the bar. We were given menus and glasses of water. Excitedly, we were perusing the menu and trying to figure out what we were going to order. A bartender apologized for their lack of service (in the first 5 minutes of us sitting down!!) and offered us free bubbles. In any other bar, a 5 minute wait would've been nothing! Apparently there was a large table that was giving the bartenders some trouble (sending drinks back multiple times). As this bar's specialty is creating customized drinks per patron, this was rather time consuming for the bartenders. (There were 4 people behind the bar for a room of 20 patrons). I ordered one of their menu drinks and then asked for a customized one. Both were absolutely delicious and you can taste the quality alcohol and ingredients used in their drinks! The servers were all extremely accommodating, as well as the concierge who escorted us from the door to the entrance of the bar. A true speakeasy, as it is really hidden away! Randomly discovered this spot from my parents that were in the night prior. Still not sure how reservations were made (my sister handled it), but it was so fun! It's located in a pretty obscure alley and luckily a guy driving by told us we had passed to door- but a group was leaving right as we stumbled across it so we weren't looking for very long. The reservation prior to us was running late so we ended up waiting for 10/15 min, but once inside we were all very impressed! A few of our group is from NYC- and were surprised at the vibe of this spot. Drinks were awesome- you pick from a menu but then when ordering can literally describe what you like/want and the mixologist at the bar concocts a drink. Prices weren't horrible (especially when NYC is $17/wine) I think it was $14-$15 per drink. Drinks were incredible, and they are definitely strong enough to only really need one. Wow. This is easily my favorite speakeasy outside of New York City. Key points to know: - does not take walk-ins - reservations are only made via text message (phone number found on their website) - due to their deliberate approach to keep the space intimate and not overcrowded, reservations can sometimes be hard to come by, especially the day of (even on weekdays) -- be sure to plan in advance at least 1-2 days and be flexible with times - the set cocktail list is fabulous (especially the martini cart), but feel free to be playful and order bartender's choice -- weekdays (or when the staff has an excess of one ingredient or is feeling super creative) are the best times to get the most ridiculously amazing concoctions (see: the "Alligator Pear," an avocado-based libation that I will continue to request so they don't forget how to make it) - if you're hungry, they have a damn good charcuterie board (but that's about it) B&GC is where I bring all of my out-of-town guests for pre- or post-dinner cocktails, and you should too. We have tried to get in to this speakeasy for 3 years. Our daughter cracked the code and finally we succeeded on Christmas Eve. We found it a bit disappointing. Our server began with "Don't ask us what is popular, don't ask what we suggest." OK good start to answer a 3 yr quest, sorry to ask for any help. I will say the Vieux carre and Sazerac were good drinks, but still not enough to make up for the server's attitude. I am torn between 2-3 stars, but Xmas eve is a tough night for anyone to work and I assume we did not see the first team tonight. The secret alley, the doorbell, the winding stairs down past the boiler room to an unmarked door that opens up to a world steeped in the 1920s, with specialty cocktails swinging around. Following my dinner right above at Departure, I felt saucy and up for adventure, so I jogged my memory and remembered that I had heard that somewhere there was a secret little spot where the lights are dim and the environment is warm and the people are great. So I asked a staff member where I can find such a place. Next thing you know I was in the back alley ringing what he called "the sexiest doorbell you can find." Ring a ding ding! The 2 hostesses who answered were great! I mean how could they be anything less when they sat my party of 3 at the drop of a hat on New Years Eve. To be honest, I got very lucky, as another party had been unresponsive to their reservation, which allowed me to slip right in. After my mother called our exploration "sketchy," and I quickly reminded her that we were still in Cherry Creek North, we were on our way through back hallways and staircases of the hotel, down into a swanky, truly hidden gem. Just as I had been told, the lights were low, yet gleaming, giving the drinks a beautiful shimmer. Mitch, our waiter was friendly and walked us through the menu and any questions we had. We ordered the * Lions Tail -- simply fantastic sweet whiskey cocktail served up with after-notes of clove. * Distant Lover -- perfectly sweet bourbon cocktail with notes of citrus, mint and bitters. * Manhattan -- served on a perfectly crafted rock. * Vodka Martini -- Made with 3 vermouths and served with 3 olives and a side car of extra martini on ice, all served on a silver platter. I'll tell ya what, that really built my mother out of her whole "sketchy" comment she made 20 minutes earlier! This is a spot where you can really feel warm and fuzzy and shut the outside world out. This place has managed to get by for 6 months without having a Yelp business page. Why? Because this speakeasy is the closest thing you'll get to the real deal. They have managed to obtain customers purely by word of mouth -- there are no signs of this bar existing on the exterior of the building, and it is hard to find. Seriously, it's a random stairwell in the middle of an alley. You have to text their phone on the same day you want to come in. My date and I texted around 9PM, but weren't able to come in until 11:45PM. Despite the several hour wait, this experience was WORTH IT. I've never been to a speakeasy quite like this one, and I felt as though I were in a scene of Mad Men. The cocktail I ordered was "The Sun Also Rises", which starred artichoke liqueur. It might sound strange, but it was the single greatest cocktail I think I've ever had. You can tell a lot of heart and soul goes into each concoction they put out. The ambience here is dark, small, yet incredibly classy. The bar counter itself is the only thing that is well-lit, making it the highlight of the room. They had candles out at each table, and BOY did I need them to see the menu. Probably one of my only complaints. There was also old-timey music playing, which was definitely a favorite for me. We talked with one of the employees, and he says that the place gets busy at random times. My date and I came on a Friday night, but only a few tables were filled. Apparently it was packed just before we arrived. This place is my new favorite bar in Colorado. Drinks are pricey, but you really get what you pay for here. I've gone back and forth on whether or not I should review this spot, because of its "private" quality that it offers. However, I have to shout it out from the rooftops how amazing this place is and how well the mixologist serve up their guests! A seat at the bar! That's where you want to be if you haven't tried out this spot. We were pretty lucky to have Matt as our creative cocktail designer this evening and we went completely off menu. I like it spicy and light and my friend wanted it light and refreshing. Each cocktail combination was not just something you sip down but a real conversation starter. The atmosphere is intellectually sound and you feel like you're a part of something really special when you can discuss the history of some of the most exquisite liquors in their inventory.
