The food is extremely salty and no carribean flavor. I drove from key west to try , I'm very disappointed.

SINGLE. THING. was unreal. Like, not one weak item on the table. But let me be clear -- that shrimp po' boy??? ABSOLUTELY STOLE THE SHOW. I'd go back for that alone. The whole place has that perfect outdoor Keys vibe -- laid back, great energy, just straight-up good times. And the service?? Top tier. Olivia and Mikey were on point the entire time -- super friendly, nailed the order, and made the experience even better. Huge respect to the kitchen too -- Marcus and Chapel are putting out some seriously special food. You can TASTE the effort and care in every bite. This place isn't just good... it's the kind of spot you think about after you leave. A spot you talk about until you go back. We'll 1000% be back. Probably way too soon

Upon approaching the bar we looked over the menu and promptly ordered. A stationary food truck doled out scrumptious grub, delivered in a timely fashion. We really enjoyed all items and the beer was refreshing. It wasn't very busy when we first arrived, but it started to fill in more so during our visit. The surfer/hippie vibe throughout the grounds heightened my vacation mode. It's exactly the chill setting I was craving. Walking around the garden, hopping on the standing swing, sitting in hammock chairs, playing the hook and ring game, and checking out the shop were all leisure bliss.

The service was quite slow when we got there, it took a bit to get seated even though we were the only ones waiting with numerous open tables. Once we got our table we had to ask multiple times for a kids menu and high chair, but our waitress eventually showed up and got both for us. The high chair was broken but we made it work for our little one. Our server was efficient and friendly, even though it took a bit for her to get to us. The food was good, not the best meal, but definitely good tiki bar food. I got the fish tacos which were good, and fries, they were the best part. We wanted to get dessert but there were so many flies it made us want to leave. To no fault of their own, it's unfortunate, and to be expected at an outdoor spot, but it was an overwhelming amount and we just didn't want to deal with it any longer. I think its a good spot to grab a drink on the water at the bar! Definitely brings a good vibe.

After we were seated by the hostess, we sat at our table for 20 minutes without being acknowledged. I know the time because I had a text from the time our table was ready and we were seated. I had to go back to the hostess and ask if we had a server because no one had spoken to us despite serving several tables next to us. We had ordered drinks from the bar during our 45 minute wait for a table and the server never once asked if we wanted any other drinks or water. My husband ended up going back to the bar twice more to order more drinks for us over the course of the meal. The food itself was mediocre, and for the price I would expect more scallops in the scallop dish. My daughter said her hamburger was inedible as it was an unseasoned, pre-made patty. We all agreed after tasting it. We left it uneaten, but the server never even ask how our food was after taking our order. We had to flag her down to finally get our check. It ended up being over a 3 hour meal with wait time. Ordering drinks from the bar for poolside or the beach was another torturous wait every single time. It would take no less than 20 minutes each time. On our second to last day, from where I was on the beach, I hear the bartender screaming "GET OFF THE ROCKS! THOSE NO TRESSPASSING SIGNS MEAN SOMETHING!!" I realize he's screaming at my 12 year old daughter who had no idea she couldn't climb on the jetty. She's been able to do so at every other place we went, and there are CLEARLY no "no trespassing" signs that face the beach. There are very old ones that face the interior of the restaurant, but none facing the beach where my daughter came from. She was extremely embarrassed, and my husband (who was once again waiting for our drinks at the bar) said that the bartender scared everyone in the restaurant when he screamed at her. After this I went to help him bring our drinks back to our seats, and as we walked away the bartender said "Where do you think you're going?" To which my husband responded, "What do you mean? To the beach with our drinks." And the bartender said "Well you have to pay that you know." So my husband turns back around to put down a card and lets him know that he thought he had already put down a card when he ordered nearly a half hour before. He obviously wasn't trying to "steal" drinks, and we were once again embarrassed by this extremely rude bartender, who then informed us when we was going off shift and that we had to close our check with him before that time. After that we spent no more money at this establishment. I do NOT recommend this restaurant for meals or drinks, and it frankly casts a negative pall over our entire stay despite the fact that the hotel was nice.

But it isn't a good restaurant, in any way. As several other reviewers have said, the service is terrible and the food isn't good. We were staying at the resort and came right when they opened for breakfast, but for whatever reason, they decided to help another larger group first, that arrived well after us. The larger group got their food and left before we even got our food. The servers largely ignored us the entire time, even though they were super attentive to other groups. I'm not sure what we did to bother the staff so much besides arriving right at 7 am, but the experience was terrible and we won't be back here even though we have a food credit through the resort. Not that it will do any good, but we will be reaching out to the hotel management because they clearly have a problem here. I don't think they care because they have a captive audience on the resort that is always new. If you're staying at the resort , this is not a place to actually eat a meal.

The restaurant is tucked away on a back street, far from the usual tourist spots, which adds to its charm. The food is authentic Cuban cuisine -- and I say that after decades of living in and around Hudson County, NJ, where the Cuban community is large and vibrant. At El Siboney, everything tastes fresh and homemade, with generous portions and prices that are refreshingly reasonable for Key West. This visit, I ordered the whole fried yellow snapper, served with yuca, yellow rice, and beans. My dinner companion had the Siboney skirt steak, one of the restaurant's popular dishes, served with a choice of sides. Both meals were excellent. Dessert was equally impressive: a delicious slice of tres leches cake and silky vanilla custard that were the perfect ending to the meal. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. Dinner for two, including dessert and tip, came to about $100 -- a great value for the quality and quantity of food. El Siboney remains one of my favorite places to eat in Key West.

While I was checking it out, the bouncer at the bar next door told me it was worth a visit, which sealed the deal. Later that evening, I convinced my friends to go with me. They were expecting a full sit-down dinner, but this is more of a counter-service spot with 6-7 bar stools inside. The setup is simple: place your order at the counter, then either grab a stool or head to the bar next door, where they'll bring your food when it's ready. We chose the bar's patio, which gave us a clear view of the restaurant. It was reassuring to see other groups having their meals delivered over too--it felt like we had discovered the right local gem. The wait was about 25-30 minutes, but that only confirmed everything was being made fresh. And let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it. Our group ordered two jerk chicken plates with plantains, mac n' cheese, and slaw; one oxtail with black beans, rice, and mac n' cheese; and one jerk burger with fries. Every single dish was a hit. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky spice and heat from the scotch bonnet peppers, balanced with bold Caribbean flavors. The oxtail was tender and flavorful, and even the sides like mac n' cheese and plantains stood out. All in all, this was easily one of the best Caribbean meals I've had anywhere. A true must try when in Key West.
