I love a good speakeasy, and B-Side is a really great one! What makes it stand out is the true speakeasy vibe: you actually use the jukebox to unlock the "secret" entrance (so fun!). You can make a reservation or just walk in, but fair warning it's a small space and fills up fast. Without a reservation, expect to wait a bit. This is really 3.5 stars and it's for the karaoke rooms; not the bar itself. I would def come back here! I came with a group of 7 on a Friday and the hotel itself is vibey and cool. The room we were in is super cute, rugs on the wall, comfy bean bag chairs and Moroccan lanterns but a bit on the smaller side. Both the hostess, Alicia and the bartender (whose name I unfortunately forgot) were both so nice and helpful to getting the party atmosphere going. I think they were both also working the lounge and other karaoke rooms so I think they may have been a bit overwhelmed at points. We were also told that we could order food which was a nice surprise as the online menu only had snacks (charcuterie, nuts etc.) but then the chef shut that down and said he'd make what we already ordered but no more which was a little disappointing. Additionally, I also read from other reviews about them having a $300 minimum but there was nothing on their website about it. Overall I didn't have the best experience because it started with being met by rude bar staff. The waitlist system should be improved as it doesn't seem like proper order was followed. After being added to the waitlist and waiting over 30 mins we never received a text. We happened to come down while the host was heading upstairs and told us and other guests to wait. Some other guests decided to skip the line and open the curtain. The bar staff stopped me at the curtain while not questioning the couple that cut the line. It was very rude how they handled the line and the other guests who waited were uncomfortable as well. We didn't want the situation to ruin our night so we decided to get a round and popcorn. The Cinnamon Girl was ok - I didn't get much cinnamon flavor or the other spice, it was like a weak, cold mulled wine. The Purely Conceptual was good. What a cool place! I always heard about B-Side from others since it's one of the more novelty speakeasies in the city however, I often heard mixed reviews about the cocktails. I recently gave it a try because I heard they had redone the menu and had some new bartending staff. I was really pleased with the experience and thought the drinks tasted delicious. Whatever qualms people had about the cocktails before seemed to have been solved by whoever took over the bar and menu more recently. The whole idea is awesome too. If you want to impress someone who is visiting, you should definitely take them here. You enter through a secret door that only opens when you insert a special coin into the jukebox. ORIGIN: B-Side opened alongside the freshly remodeled Revival Hotel in 2018. A refinement of the original conception occurred more recently with the adoption of New Waterloo hotel management. LOCATION: B-Side is located at the ground floor of the Revival Hotel, closest to the Cathedral Street entrance. CONCEPT: As suggested by the name, B-Side does not command focus of attention with a glaring neon sign. Entrance to B-Side only becomes apparent when someone knows to deposit a coin in the hallway jukebox, through which a wall panel will slide open. B-Side is designed to be evocative of a speakeasy. EXPERIENCE: After a night of little sleep, six hours of travel, and a two hour professional workshop, I arrived at Hotel Revival on an early Sunday summer evening. Fortuitously, as special offer, a hotel service member arranged a drink for me on the house. I headed to B-Side, and found it to be a perfect space to recalibrate before the next day of intense conference sessions. B-Side is entered only through both knowledge of its location and mode of access. I deposited a coin in a jukebox in the hallway that leads to ground floor bathrooms; a wall panel opened to allow my entrance. Passing through velvet curtains into the darkness, I entered the bar to find a very small room filled with candle-lit cafe tables and upholstered loveseats and chairs. Although unfortunately I am not equipped to properly capture the setting with an iPhone X, I can report a chill vibe! I sat at the six seat bar counter with a professional traveling musician, and was soon thereafter joined by a few local women, faces lit primarily by the glow of the bar backlight. Eventually I noticed that a few couples had entered and were quietly sipping on cocktails in the privacy allowed by both the the seating arrangements and limited illumination. B-Side is the epitome of an intimate setting. I experienced Red Clay cocktail, as the components brought to mind a cocktail I recently enjoyed in Denver (Madre Facka at La Diabla). Vegetal and color dimensions are added through the infusion of serrano and red bell pepper purée, complementing components conventionally found in a Margarita -- Reposado tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, with a spicy salt rim. The color was not as saturated as the Denver iteration, but was delightfully savory, as promised on the clever digital menu graphic (attached). As I hadn't had dinner nor lunch, and the hotel restaurant was not open that day, I ventured to try one of the few bites offered. -- I didn't want to move from this peaceful space! The wagyu sliders satisfied hunger and had a nice crunchy, seasoned slaw topping. However, given the kitchen is on another floor and the sole bartender was attending to the entire room, the sliders likely arrived after sitting around for a while -- they were not hot and the interior was medium, and not (or no longer) juicy. Although this may have been impacted by the start of Sunday bar hours that day, it might be best to choose one of the items that are typically served at room temperature. TIPS: Karaoke rooms are available in the vicinity of the bar for a fee. All house special cocktails are $19, but less pricey options are also available on the menu. I checked into this speakeasy on a weeknight and was impressed by the great atmosphere. Who knew this was hiding out in Hotel Revival. Once you pop the coin into the jukebox, you're treated to great music, ambiance, and an eclectic drink selection. The bartenders are attentive and know their way around a cocktail. If you don't see a drink you like on the ample menu, they'll whip up something to suit your tastes. My quibbles: the seats look more comfortable than they actually are and the drinks are certainly on the more expensive side of the spectrum. The decor, neo soul music and dim lighting set the mood for a night of great conversation. I hear the service is a bit better during happy hour, but we found ourselves waiting a long time for our drinks. I had the love speakeasy & pink trees. Both had a nice balance of sweetness. I preferred the Love speakeasy, especially since it had chunks of dragon fruit in it. We found parking on the next block and enter Hotel Revival's door and headed towards the jukebox. It took a second but we realized we needed to drop a coin in the jukebox to access the bar. Like magic the door opened and we were inside. Thankfully, we arrived at the perfect time between sets of reservations and got the last table available. It's cute and a smidge swanky. This is my second time here, and honestly, some of the best cocktails I've ever had. We for the "I gotcha", the Pink Martini, and the Dreamweaver and they were all basically perfect. We came around 11 pm on a Saturday and were greeted & seated right way. The one thing I had to adjust to was the darkness. Know speakeasies tend to he dark in general, but here I couldn't even read the menu with out the faux candles provided on every table. For what is a minimum $300 experience, this was not the luxury or level of service that I would have expected. I went to B-Side with friends for my birthday. I've been a patron at B-Side before and have had a good experience, but this time left disappointed. First, we were not told at booking about the required bottle service and room minimum of $300. Even worse, when we arrived and we're told about the minimum, the karaoke room wasn't ready for us: the music volume was low and the mics didn't work, repeatedly. This was especially frustrating because we were on a countdown clock so every minute that something didn't work cut into our time having fun. We often had to hunt for wait staff to help us. While our server did come to us immediately at the beginning, they didn't check on us frequently and sometimes we had to go hunting to find them for things like additional mixers for our bottle service, help with the technical issues in the room, and even to pay our bill! At a standard club when you order bottle service, there's a bit more fanfare like sparklers and at minimum, VIP level attention from staff. On top of that, we found the Songa interface difficult to use and with a limited song selection. Or maybe it had a great song selection but was too difficult to interact with that we missed the songs we wanted. The service also wasn't stellar - not bad, just not great. Last week was especially disappointing given that my friends had traveled for hours from out of town to attend. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that it gives B-side ideas for how to improve the karaoke experience. I love that Baltimore has a place with private karaoke rooms, and this place has so much potential to make it stellar for future patrons. read more

This place is oh so sexy! It's "hidden" in plain sight at the street entrance of Hotel Revival. There's a record player with a bowl of coins on a side table - grab one of those, enter it in the slot, and enter the secret club that they call B-Side. The drinks are expensive - but layered, delicious, and there are countless options to choose from. There are also non-alcoholic options and even a CBD cocktail! Had an unfortunate experience for my birthday at B-Side for Karaoke. I can't comment on the food or drinks since we left before we could order, but I can confirm that my group and I were severely disappointed with the customer service at B-Side. It was an odd situation overall. Major miscommunication and poor hospitality from the staff. We had reserved room 110 (the biggest room with a max occupancy of 8) for our group. We were about 10 minutes late, but had let the bar know that we were on our way via their automated text system. Upon arrival we found that they had given away our room and put us in a much smaller room. We didn't really understand what had happened, and the host told us that since we booked room 110 for 5 people (instead of the max 8), the "system" automatically put us in room 109. This didn't really add up since it seemed like the group in 110, the room we reserved, had been in there for quite some time before we got there. We asked the host about this, and he told us that this group had shown up early for their 11:45pm reservation, so they put them in 110 (2 hours early and you give away our reserved room!?). The host told us that we were marked in the system as "not confirmed" because we "did not answer the confirmation text", but we 100% did. My friend had the text to prove it and showed him. At that point the host told us he "didn't really know what to tell us..." Honestly, I don't know what really happened with the room mixup, but the problem more lies in how we were treated after the mixup. The host was not willing to move the group that was in our room and offered to let us utilize two smaller rooms at the same time, but the point of our visit was to be together in one big room. It felt like we were being blamed for this mixup. We had no way of knowing that our room would be downgraded just because we initially put 5 people. (Not for nothing, but I don't really buy that excuse - I think someone just gave away our room carelessly and they were trying to put the blame on us and their system). However, once the host said he would be back to show us how to use the karaoke system and get our drink orders, we did not see him for about 20 minutes. It felt as if they were actively avoiding us (I got the sense there was a lot of confusion on their end about the situation). Finally, after members of our group went out to flag down some employees to even look in our direction, a staff member came in to show us how to use the machine and take our drink orders. It was an extremely awkward vibe, because we were pretty upset that we had 1) been put in the smaller room despite our reservation and 2) been kept waiting in that small room for over 20 minutes with no service at all. One friend finally asked if there was anything that could be done about the $300 food/bev minimum at the very least because of all that had happened. The staff member and the host did not seem willing to do this at all (not even a round of shots or something, anything?!). Finally, the host said he would get the manager to speak with us. 5 more minutes past and we had no sign of the manager. In that time, we decided to cut our losses and leave, since no one was in the mood for karaoke anymore because of all this. The staff really killed our vibe and made us feel unwelcome. The bottom line is that this could have easily been rectified if the staff had been even a little apologetic and offered to do really anything to make us feel comfortable. They gave a pretty clear "we do not care" energy, and that is what ultimately made us leave. This was Lesson 101 on what NOT to do when working in hospitality. We were so excited to do karaoke for my birthday, but this was a huge bummer. read more

The environment was fun and intimate. It's a perfect ambiance for an intimate date night or setting for a small group of friends.
