If I'm not at the bar, I normally order takeout, and I'm helped by the friendliest staff over the phone every time I call. Without fail. I work in customer service myself and these things are very noticeable and important to me. Excellent meal! The Ottoro tuna was like butter. Thanks for the extra sashimi! We started with sumo oysters, gyoza, and seaweed salad. Everything was delicious but the sumo oysters were the stand out. Best oysters I have ever had. The balance of flavors was amazing. The maki rolls were fresh and delicious. They really pay attention to detail. The desserts are not be forgotten. We got the chocolate mousse cake and key lime cheesecake, both were fantastic. Trust me you have to try them. I was first introduced to sushi by some Japanese colleagues while on a business trip to San Francisco back in the 80s. It's been a favorite of mine ever since. However, I was never able to find anything here in the Boston area that matched my SF sushi dining experiences for many years. Enter Wilson Wang. I first encountered Wilson behind a sushi bar in Chestnut Hill nearly 20 years ago... And I have been following him wherever he's been behind the sushi counter ever since. These days Wilson is chef / owner of Baba Sushi in Worcester. I used to live in Worcester, so Baba was my regular (only) sushi spot for many years. Then I moved closer to Boston and I rarely found myself in Worcester (and I discovered other "suitable" places closer to the city). But I always had a yearning to go back to Baba. Yesterday, on the way home from Western Mass., I finally had a chance to return to Baba. As always, it was awesome! The sushi is always fresh, expertly prepared and presented, and the house specialty maki rolls melt in your mouth with their amazing combinations of fish, veggies and sauces. Yesterday, our Cucumber Sashimi and Scallop Ceviche (I forget the actual name) maki rolls were amazing. And the Eel and Yellow Fin sashimi was super fresh and tasty. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My husband and I were visiting from North Carolina and made reservations way in advance. Even though we had reservations, our Uber driver also recommended this place. So glad we had reservations because the place began to fill up right after we were seated around noon. I believe our server's name was Tatiana. She was amazing and actually went to school in the mountains in NC. Such a small world. Tatiana was so pleasant and observant. We started off with the rangoons and gyoza. The gyoza was so crispy and delicious. The rangoons were also amazing and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. The sake sangria was also fantastic. We also ordered the angel maki and a surf & turf special roll (beef and lobster). The angel maki roll was probably one of the best I've ever had. I could eat that all day, every day. The surf & turf was good, but we both thought the beef could've been sliced thinner. My husband ended up eating the beef off the top first and then eating the roll, which was probably the way to go. And for non-sushi lovers, they do offer other dishes, such as Ginger Chicken. It was thin but large filet of chicken, lightly fried. It didn't have much flavor on its own, the ginger sauce that came with it was necessary to enhance the flavor of the chicken. But, I have to say, it is a "sushi restaurant" so if you want to order something other than sushi, it might not be as great as the sushi that they offer... Overall, we were happy with the sushi, it was fresh, tasty, and interesting. The service was fast and efficient. Ok, so here's a newsflash: do not sit in the back room on a cold night! The food here is quite good, the physical set up is where things get very dicey! They rely upon heaters which are situated above you in the back room, there is this very interesting physical dichotomy where your upper body is almost uncomfortably warm while your feet are feeezing. It is a real issue and it seriously affects the dining experience. There is also the fact that these heaters are apparently gas fueled and they have an odor, not overpowering but still there. I went here with my little sister for some sushi on a Friday night and this place was packed! Luckily we were able to get a seat at the sushi bar. Very lively atmosphere, a bit loud at times with the lights dimmed way to low. My typical sushi place ended up closing indefinitely and so babas is my second option. Their quality is definitely high quality but for the pricing it should be. I think it's a bit more on the expensive side but you definitely get what you pay for. First off let me say the only reason this place is still in business is because of the local white people (I am white btw) who know nothing about Japanese food. If this place was in or near Boston it would have gone out of business within the first year. The menu obviously caters to white people. I asked the waiter if the Beef Tataki (they spelled it tartaki) was served cold. Meaning, it's seared the day before, sliced thin, and served cold from the refrigerator. After all Beef Tataki is a cold dish. Apparently, like most restaurants where no one orders it, they serve it warm as it's cooked to order. That's just wrong. If you don't sell it then take it off the menu. The waiter's response was idk maybe that's their take on it. hahahhaha... It's called being lazy. The Tuna Poke, was odd. Served on Mexican tortilla chips from the grocery store (wtf). You gotta be joking. All you can taste is corn. marinated in some kind of avocado mayonnaise. You could not even taste the tuna. Should be served on crisp wonton chips. This was wrong on so many levels. Jalapeno Yellowtail was bland and overly acidic in likely lemon juice from the squeeze bottle. The jalapeno was raw. Should have been pickled a bit to bring down the heat. If my aunt ate this she'd be going to the hospital. Cuts of sashimi were sloppy and way too long. Prices high and quality low. Best thing I ate was Uni ngiri. They tout best of this best of that awards and 100 best sushi in the World. Who is judging these awards? They must be super white people that know nothing about Japanese food. I googled top 100 in the World and there were not hits. So I seriously question its validity. I will never go back. There is better sushi in Worcester. What a disappointing experience. There is nothing amazing about this place. read more
