Hands down the best shawarma in Tampa, even after few days in the fridge still tastes AMAZING.

Shawarma Elshami is a middle Eastern cafe located on 56th Street adjacent to the Outback Steakhouse. It is in a orange plaza with mostly medical businesses. There are 6 tables inside and two outside for done in seating 24-30. It is a bit cozy inside. They offer Shawarma in both beef and chicken and either "loose" or wrapped in pita with some vegetables. There are combos that add fries and sodas. I got the Beef jumbo combo for $17. The shawarma wrap is cut in half and is about 7-8 inches long if not cut. The fries are fresh and hot. They give you 2 tablespoons worth of white garlic sauce which is nice. I used it for both the wrap and fries. They only have sodas from a company called Matrix. Apparently,it is an Iraqi company located in Jordan. I tried the "blue" one since it appeared to be the default. It tasted like a standard Coke but with 20 percent lime flavor added to the formula. I liked it but your mileage may vary. The soda is 8 oz not 12 oz like here. There are also some pickled vegetables included. The wrap itself is very tightly wrapped and stable unlike the very delicate Chipotle burritos which threaten to bisect themselves at a moments notice. The beef is fresh and spiced though not spicy. The pita is crispy which is different from other places in Tampa which is nice. I would recommend dining in if possible. There is plenty of parking and it is open Sundays. It is closed Mondays. It is not a quiet place with many kids running around so keep that in mind. I'm not a super shawarma expert but ths is one of the better establishments in Tampa and is a good value for the money. read more

I always order the beef sandwich. The meat is fresh, wrapped in tortillas that are seared to perfection on the stove, creating a crispy, golden crust. They offer a variety of sauces, and I'm obsessed with the orange one! I ended up going back twice in one week. That's how good it is! I want to start off my saying that the food was really good. We grew up making shawarma at home and tried it all over the world and this place was solid. Very authentic, very delicious. My problem with this place is the wait time and the customer service. We were a big party so I understand but it took over an hour to get 6 boxes of food. They have a picture of hummus and kebabs up but they don't sell that stuff which is weird. The lady behind the counter was not nice at all. I watched a customer come in to complain and they treated her really bad. It was so disrespectful. I felt very bad for her but was too scared to say anything. They were out of kibbeh and we were there at 4 which is kind of annoying. People behind us in line got food before us. I think they went by the size of the order and started with small orders. Shawarma is usually fast and you get it fairly quickly. I have no idea why this place took so long. My last complaint was that everyone had their face masks around their neck but not on their face. Nobody in the kitchen had a mask on their face. Nobody who came in to place an order had a mask on either. It says masks please on the door but they do not enforce it. read more

I've had shawarma all over the Middle East, all over New York City, & in many spots around Tampa Bay. The shawarma I had today was way above average in the Tampa area. The rotating heated pillars of meat slabs were prominent as we walked in today. We decided to get a beef shawarma & a chicken shawarma. They were cut in halves so we exchanged halves. I thus got to try both the chicken & the beef. The chicken was a marinated, quality, white meat. It came with a smear of garlic sauce, pickles, tomatoes, & cucumber. It was then wrapped in a dough & grilled. The result was a tasty burrito-like shawarma. The taste was very good. The beef shawarma though was my favorite. The meat was good quality, versus being questionable, lol. It was marinated with delicious seasoning & similarly wrapped & grilled like a burrito. It came with tahini on the side. The flavor seriously was excellent, & it'll for sure draw me back for a return visit. The workers I think were a father & daughter. Initially they were exceptionally quiet, even when ordering. The only time I had ever previously heard of Shawarma was at the cut scene ending of the avengers movie. At the time I knew it must be a food eaten by great people, and I was so thrilled when a friend of mine who has much more experienced than that suggested this respectable establishment. Shawarma from what I understand is a Helal meat with a taste and presentation quite similar to the gyro. This particular establishment offers both chicken and beef options with meat that was succulent and finely shaven in the usual standard fashion. With that being said, the menu itself is rather limited and you will not find a robust selection of authentic options, but I must say that they take pride in the Shawarma they present. It's served alongside a thick white sauce for which I do not know the name and truthfully does not really matter as it is tasty and I know where to find it. It was kind of like tzatziki sauce with a little less ziki. The meal is typically served with french fries which are your typical frozen and dropped in oil style served up in a to go styrofoam container, however they were fluffy and overall a fine product for the price which is a fair and reasonable $8.99. In summary the seating area is tight but the food is also tight as in good tight though I feel that I need to experience more of their culinary options to truly appreciate the dynamics of such a unique food to my palate. If I was in the area I would stop by, but might not go all the way across town just for a slice of the Shawarma. read more

This is a good solid shawarma joint in temple Terrace. We had beef and chicken. Both were delicious. The material was fresh. I like the crispy skin as the chief brushed butter over the wrap and pressed the sandwich on grill. Just like Tampa people enjoy their press Cuban sandwich. It's a good size about 8-9 inches long. I make the trip from orlando at least 2-3 times a month and it is worth it! I love that it's a family owned place, they put all the love into every sandwich. Everything is very fresh and clean.
