    Chicken BLT (huge/ good!!)
    Patty P.

for starters I don't eat red meat so I would of never walked into this place ... My husband wanted a chicken blt (I tasted the chicken!) & it was so good, so fresh, perfectly breaded I had the macaroni salad it was good but too tangy for my taste I also had the cheesy potato with Mac and cheese balls & I loved it ... definitely would come back for the side items ... Staff was very nice They were super busy, call ahead if you can (if they answer I tried!) but line went pretty quick

After cooking, the meat was so silky and soft.

Personal service with a smile. My husband was craving some beef bone-in short ribs. These are hard to find at a regular supermarket. The first time I stopped in they were sold out. But the butcher said to call and he'll hold them on the side for me. They were bagged and ready for me on my next visit. Excellent quality of meat, so fresh and they cooked up marvelously. Melted like butter in our mouths. Also Babylon Village Meat Market is a supporter of local community groups. Their generosity is greatly appreciated.

Had another incredible experience at Babylon Village Meat Market! This time, we knew to cut back on the amount of skirt steak because last time was too much. The steaks were just as good as last time if not better. Let the pictures do the talking!!

Don Corleone sandwich: chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, marinara sauce, locatelli cheese, on a Brooklyn semolina hero. Not too bad . . .

Don Corleone Sandwich Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, marinara sauce, locatelli cheese, Brooklyn semolina hero. Chicken wasn't too bad, but it could have been a little moister in texture. Also, I don't recall the locatelli cheese being in the flavor profile when I ate the sandwich. I still enjoyed it nonetheless, just not as much as the other sandwiches I've had from BVMM.

Love their lunch menu. Several options and very attentive staff. My go to is option A off of the panini menu.

Never knew turkey could taste so good on a sandwich. Kind of expensive but size of sandwich makes it worthwhile.

The cocktail hour was beyond our expectations--the raw bar was fabulous, and Lenny's homemade bacon is unreal.

The store has no life inside, it's depressing. The shelves have minimal products which are overpriced. The grab and go dinners only had 2 choices available, so sad. Store made frozen pasta is available. Fresh meat is available, looked good but expensive. Salted cod was $21 a pound, why? There's a full array of salads in the front showcase which showed some promise but too expensive. No other customers in the store and it was lunch time. The quiche we bought had plenty of cheese and tasted good heated up despite the bottom crust being underbaked. I think that Uncle Giuseppe's sucked away business from Gemelli which used to be the only high end Italian market around.

Upon looking at the receipt I noticed they charged a fee for using the card. When I questioned the higher amount on my receipt the manager, I believe, said the credit card company puts it on there. WRONG! It's up to the merchant to tell the credit card company and in NYS it is illegal to charge more for using a credit card unless info is posted with the credit card amount and the cash amount or there is a discount for cash. Check this out on the NYS Consumer Affairs web site and point it out to merchants who are illegally charging you this fee. Yes, the store is paying a fee for accepting credit cards but that is part of their overhead and the burden should not be placed on their customers. Just wondering if they write off that expense after collecting it from unwary customers. There is a $500 fine for each complaint.

There was a jazz band playing which enhanced the atmosphere. Baked clams, crab cake, calamari were all terrific starters. This was followed by the Ribeye and Beef Wellington which were both delicious and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was very helpful and informative and a credit to the establishment. It's a nice location for an upscale experience. For what you get, the prices are reasonable as well. Would go back.

This brings us to The James, managed by Joe Giannino under the fat-cat "Standard Hospitality Group," owned by Andrew Affa & Steve Squirtiro. It's hard owning a business and keeping it profitable but not when it's an almost algorithmic formula driven money extraction system so commonly found today. It's more difficult dining out in the world today when it feels like hospitality is vacating. Vining more about high-revenue than humanity. By very definition, I wouldn't call a good portion of the hospitality industry hospitality at all, and I certainly wouldn't say the James offers any. What I love about food is what it does for the soul, & what I've always loved about providing and caring for people is the sense of community; connection during good times and difficult ones alike; That's hospitality to me. Breaking bread is one of the most fundamental human gestures of generosity and true wealth. When you have it, you share it not squander it, not hoard it or treat it like it's something to take from others and line your pockets with. That's why this experience disappointed me so much, because I believe with the myriad of options, we must be far more selective and far more supportive of local and smaller family run establishments. Today, for a table they would still fill and never notice, I tried to cancel a reservation out of respect -- respect for the staff, for other guests, and for my damn self. Being charged a cancellation fee when a mom is sick on Mothers Day, is not hospitality, it is not empathy. It is greed disguised as brand experience self worth. I have supported the Arlo from this same restaurant group in the past and probably would have happily returned too, based on the menu alone, but coldhearted, rigid policies like this change how a place feels. There are many family-run restaurants that understand flexibility and empathy. That kind of environment matters to me, and this experience will forever make me decide to support those places instead. I've recently learned to name positive outcomes when something negative arises, so I believe this time, it's great that it only cost me fifty bucks to never give this group another dime. Typical corporate hospitality is more what the James can offer. These types of COMPANIES feed themselves, not the community.
