I've been going to Salpino for over 23 years at least... they are a fantastic Italian gourmet deli, butcher, and bakery. Everything is fresh and delicious and such a large selection. Homemade soups, sauces and prepared large and small trays of your favorite Italian entrees. They make the best sandwiches any way you like them. The store is clean and fully stocked and well lite. Service is very good but sometimes slow, because no one comes in to buy one thing. You may have to wait a bit but definitely worth it... two particular items that I think are the best is their quart of vodka sauce and their eggplant Caponata nothing compares. I always order sandwiches and sometimes meats from them. The sandwiches that they make are good they out a lot of meat but sometimes they can be slacking but it's worth getting a sandwich from them. They have a lot of meats that are pre seasoned that look very good. The guys in the deli area are very nice! And the folks in the front at the registrar are good as well. Here we go, I'm always in Deer Park and I'm just now seeing this little market in the shopping mall. After going to the pizza shop and dollar tree I figured I would stop in the store to see what I would find. I was amazed . Had no idea this little tiny store would have so many goodies . There was such a large selection of everything you can ever think of. Cooked foods, sausages, cold cuts, salads and the sweets were amazing. I didn't know what to buy or try first. I bought one stick of hot dry sausage yesterday it was horrible. I've been going there many years I asked a fella named Paul yesterday how's your sausage oh it's good blah blah blah. So I decided to get one stick of dry sausage which cost me $12.97. I do have a bad habit of not taking my receipt, but I did have a receipt for the quarter pound of prosciutto that I bought cuz I was talking to the girl Emma by the counter there for about 15 minutes while I waited forever for the Spanish kid to take the skin off the sausage which took forever. BTW the store was not busy there yesterday. So when I got the dry sausage she said, Emma, do you need to receipt I said no. Wouldn't you know it that's the one that had the problem with so I don't have the receipt..I called back a second time this morning and a girl which is related to the family. I don't need a big story I want my money back. She said well a lot of people have been doing this it's a new policy well I have a new policy as of today I'm calling the bank if I do not get the money back or store credit I will never go in that store again all right I will never ever go in that store again you got that! 4 years ago a Spanish kid cut the wrong prosciutto Boars Head brand not the Deparma. Funny, I didn't have to bring the product back THEN! or the receipt they took my word for it. NOW all of a sudden the policy changed because a lot of people have been bringing items back! I'm NOT one of those a lot of people! I'm going all these years! If you want me to continue doing business with you I would suggest that you leave a call back number with your name preferably the owner not a store manager Eric that I spoke to previously before the girl that didn't know what the hell he was talking about. I love popping into Salpino's Italian Food Market. Being Italian and raised in Brooklyn we had the best selections of cheese, breads, meats, fresh pasta and Ravioli's and let's not forget the pastries. Finding Salpino's for me brings me back home. They have the Best Italian foods on Long Island. My favorite is the veal it's so tender it melts in your mouth. The chicken cutlets are as well. They are all cut perfectly which makes it easier when your cooking. The cold cuts, deli & bakery is amazing. The fruits & veggies are always fresh. I Love all the fresh pasta & ravioli's. I love the fact that I can find all my Italian foods without running back to Brooklyn. Thank you to the owners & staff who made us feel save during this pandemic. Went into this place to pick up two sandwiches and the guy who served me with grey hair and glasses behaved like it was an inconvenience to serve myself and other customers. I was friendly and so was the other customer who ordered. He was just blatantly nasty to both of us. Meanwhile it took 15 minutes to make a sandwich when no one else was there while there were literally 9 people standing behind the deli counter doing nothing. Don't be an a-hole to people because you're in a bad mood or you have a bad personality. To make things even better the lettuce he put on the sandwich had turned along with the fruit salad. Salpino's is a well-known Italian deli in my neighborhood, where they pack a lot of quality in a relatively small space. I've been there a few times, but oddly enough never penned a review. Tale of the tape: Potato Salad I'm a potato salad connoisseur, and as such I can tell you that there are not that many places that make a good potato salad. That said, I can report that the potato salad at Salpino's is actually decent! Chunks and slices of potato cooked properly, with a firm enough texture to keep it together, but soft enough to disintegrate in your mouth with a satisfying chew. There isn't too much mayo "sauce," just enough to bind it all together. It also contains a smattering of shredded carrots and celery pieces to provide some additional texture. All in all it's a good potato salad that doesn't need to be supplemented by a light dusting of salt, or the addition of Texas Pete hot sauce or mustard. By the way I did indeed add Texas Pete and a little mustard in separate helpings of this potato salad, and it was great! Cole Slaw Crunchy, and gratefully not drowning in that thin mayo sauce characteristic of 'slaw. However, it's more sweet than savory (actually it's not savory at all), which is not to my particular taste. If you like your cole slaw sweet, this one's for you. If you like it savory/vinegary, it definitely is not for you . . . Chopped Beef, Onions, Peppers, Olives and Egg Empanada Salpino's has several empanadas in their deli case, and I picked up the beef, egg, onion, etc. It had a decent taste, which may have been better served with a little Texas Pete or mustard. Lemon Meringue Mini-pie Small, 3" diameter by 1/2" deep. Lemon flavor is somewhat lacking - while it's not bad, it isn't quite lemony enough to satisfy. You chase that lemon tartness, only to have it dissipate before you can run it down. The meringue top is ok, but it too is not lemony either, leading me to suspect that the leavening agent used is not lemon juice but cream of tartar. Chocolate Cakelet A two layer cake bite whose sides are coated in chocolate. Not bad, rather decent in fact if you like a light chocolate taste. Sold by the pound. Vodka Sauce As with any given Italian Deli, Salpino's sells a variety of sauces. Vodka sauce is my favorite, and I gave theirs a shot. I found myself enjoying it cold, as well as hot on pasta. It has a very unique flavor as far as vodka sauces go, one which I cannot quite explain. Suffice to say it is not overly creamy, and has a good, non-acidic tomato tang. read more

It was delicious and plentiful, as I was worried cause i never ordered the dinners before and was worried about the portion size ,but we had left overs . . I have always called & order my meat from them for the last few years, the sausage is delicious & get my locatelli cheese, but this was the first time I tried the dinners. This place is okay at best. My biggest complaint is that they do not know how to slice meats. Every once in awhile I make the mistake of getting cold cuts from the deli and get slices so thick I can't roll them properly. Don't they know that they should be slicing as thin as possible as a default setting? If you forget to ask you get slices that look like Oscar Meyers prepackaged deli meats. However, their brick oven breads are always fresh. They have very good homemade macaroni salad. Their fried zucchini is the best I've had on Long Island. Absolutely delicious is an understatement! this was honestly the best sandwich I have EVER eaten! The bread was delicious, I think fresh baked maybe? And the cold cuts were the freshest I've ever eaten. I ordered the Italian. It was a huge sandwich with the right amount of meat cheese and vegetables, unlike most places who pile on crappy meat and veggies that you can't even take a normal bite. I ate half for lunch and couldn't wait to eat the other half for dinner, I also got a chickpea beet salad which was amazing as well! I will definitely be going back.
